Initial review (Update pending ongoing dispute):…read more 1/5/2026 - I had an emergency appointment with my general dentist about tooth pain I was experiencing. They did some X-rays and exam and determined there was an infection causing the pain. Due to the condition of the tooth and previous root canal, they gave me referrals to several oral surgeons within the area and told me to get quotes. I pay my dentist out of pocket so I believe she wanted me to compare to ensure I was getting a fair estimate. My journey with Akeso (also listed as Apex) in Columbia starts on Monday (January 5th). They were one of the referrals I received and I later found out a relative went there for an extraction and dental implant. She even did a testimony video for their website. I called to inquire about prices and the process in scheduling an emergency extraction. The person I spoke to was Jenny. She told me I had to have a consultation first and gave me a price. I then asked her the range of how much a tooth extraction can cost. She gave me a price range and suggested using Cherry to finance my treatment plan. I was appreciative because although I was prepared to pay full price for the treatment, paying in installments would be more convenient. I never heard of Cherry before so I told her I would research Cherry and call back. I did research and Cherry seemed reputable and wasn't charging interest for some payment plans, so I kept them in mind. I then called the other referrals provided by my dentist to get quotes on how much the extraction would be. Some were more expensive and two were cheaper. The cheaper surgeons would require full payment, however--so I pondered on whether or not I should just pay the full amount for a cheaper amount or do installments with Akeso. Since my relative had a decent experience, I went with Akeso. I called back to schedule but instead of going to the office in Columbia, it went to their operator. It was close to their closing time, so I didn't fault them for not answering. I gave the operator my information--including the location I wanted the procedure done at and of course my demographics. She told me that she would forward my information to the Columbia office to reach back out to me in order to schedule my appointment--and it could take 24-48 hours. After hearing how long it could take for someone to call me back, I intended to call the office again in the morning. 1/6/2026 - I called the Columbia office again, however, I think I was patched over to the Nottingham office. Melissa answered and I explained to her I spoke to Jenny (Columbia) about having an extraction done and the prices I was quoted. She confirmed. I then told her how Jenny suggested Cherry to me and I was approved--and asked if the consultation fee could be added to the cost of the procedure or if I had to pay separate for it. She told me she had to send a message to the Columbia location to verify. As we waited for a response, she said she wanted to check the system to see if any of my information was there from when I spoke to the operator and it wasn't. So I gave her all the information all over again. By the time I finished giving her all the information, she received a response back. The Columbia location verified they can add the consult fee to the total amount billed to Cherry. We then scheduled for me to go in the office the next day for consult. She told me she was going to send a link and I needed to fill out my medical history, sign consent forms and. sed a copy of my referral and X-rays. I asked which provider I was going to see and she informed me it would be Dr. Lazer. After the call, I filled out the online and forms and submitted them. I also sent a copy of my X-rays and referral to the email address they instructed me to send them to. 1/7/2026 - My appointment was for 9:30am. I arrived at 9:27am. The outside of the facility looks very plain but the inside was more modern. It was clean and I saw one other (potential) patient, in the waiting room. I was immediately greeted by Selena. I met her at the front desk to check in and confirm my details. We discussed briefly what I was there for and she proceeded to collect the consult fee upfront. I mentioned how I spoke to Melissa the day prior and inquired about if the consult fee could be added to the total plan amount with Cherry and it was verified by message that I could. Selena confirmed it was true and said they would update everything and send it to Cherry when I make my downpayment. She then gestured for me to wait in the waiting room to be called back into the exam room. The exam room was spacious, with one other person. I didn't have to wait long to be called back. The medical (?) assistant called me back to a room and briefly went over my medical history and asked if I was experiencing any pain. For that level of caring and service you now need to go to his office in Greenbelt. Here they have this thing where is your blood pressure is high they will not treat you. I have anxiety normally but certainly for a dental appointment. The last time I was there I had been stressing about that appointment for two weeks. I had been losing sleep. To be told, no your bottom number is 103 and needs to be 99 on an inaccurate wrist cuff and told they would treat me. Over a decade we've spent over 30k there. But no mas. No waiver allowed and they wouldn't make an exception when the bottom number was 100, it had to be 99. If y'all don't thing dental anxiety is a thing. Then I'll go elsewhere.

I can appreciate that estimates might not always be accurate, but this delay has gone on for too long. Initially, the office informed me that they were waiting for my insurance claim to process. After several months without updates, I reached out to my insurance company, only to find out they approved and issued payment back in July, just a few days after my son's surgery. My insurance confirmed my out-of-pocket responsibility and provided an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to support this. After my insurance company intervened and conducted an investigation, they acknowledged our overpayment, but getting the refund back has turned into a frustrating, never-ending battle. Despite acknowledging the amount owed, the office continues to delay my refund, offering little clarity on the situation. When I contacted the front desk, I learned that checks are handled by their Human Resources department, which only adds to the confusion. My wife and I have been patiently waiting and have called several times just to find out the status of our refund, but the receptionist often doesn't answer when she recognizes our number. We even visited the office in person, only to be told to wait another 2-3 weeks for HR to process the refund. Now, after patiently waiting another 3 weeks, we are still left in the dark. Yesterday, I called the office again and was met with surprise at my inquiry. The front desk claimed I should receive my check this week but couldn't provide any information about when the check was issued, sent, or anything related to my refund. When I asked for the name of the HR contact responsible for processing the refund, I received a name but no clear answers. I requested a callback with an update, and the receptionist assured me I would hear back. Yet here I am, still waiting. I tried calling again for an update, but no one is answering or returning my voicemail messages. This has been a frustrating experience, and I hope to find a resolution soon. I'm a little late at 30 years old to have them…read moreextracted but I've never had any problems or pains with my wisdom teeth so I've never thought about taking them out until I started feeling some irritation behind one of my bottom molars and noticed a wisdom tooth that had emerged. The staff were extremely friendly and were very welcoming. Dr. Wu himself was very honest, knowledgeable and informative on what needed to be done, what the process was going to be like, post-operation procedures and generally just made me feel more comfortable about the whole thing because let's be honest, everyone feels nervous about getting their wisdom teeth removed because of all the horror stories. The whole operation itself felt super quick and easy. I mean I was knocked out the whole time because of the sedation but the whole thing felt like it took 15-20 minutes. And the good thing afterwards? I felt no pain at all. Throughout the next few days of recovery I was in no pain whatsoever. The only negative effect was the obvious swelling and soft diet you'll have to be on for a couple of days. If you need a good oral surgeon I would definitely recommend Dr. Wu!

I feel better about my overall care and I am giving the practice another opportunity to turn my perception around. Again I had no issue with the care from the providers, and I really do hope I continue to have positive future experiences with the practice. I've been here quite a few times between my appointments and my husbands. First I'll mention the things I like about the practice and there are not many. I like Dr. Chon and the dental hygienists for the most part. Professional and knowledgeable, very clean sleek modern looking offices at both locations. Now for the bad: the front desk staff at both locations are sorely lacking. They send out appointment reminders for the wrong office location, causing us to be late for one of my husbands appointments. Flat out lied about not doing so even though we clearly had the text reminder showing the wrong office. My appointment for my laser procedure lasted longer than necessary. I was left waiting in the exam room long enough for the numbing gel to completely wear off and just took the lidocaine injections without it because I wanted to get in and out. So my appointment was at 2 I believe the actual surgery happened just over an hour later. Same issues with follow up appointments, it's hit or miss whether the reminder is for the office we are supposed to be going to. Dr. Chon is a very competent provider and I'm sure the other providers are good but I will not be going back after my final appointment this month. I personally would rather find a different practice and take my chances. Am I too harsh? Maybe but after seeing patients myself for 16 years I would never behave this way and allow my front desk staff to be so woefully incompetent.

I was seen by Dr. Torres, who evaluated me and told me I needed to extract five teeth and replace them with implants and bone grafts. She said she couldn't provide a quote or treatment plan at that visit and instructed me to return in two weeks to see Dr. Jose for his input. She even advised me to cancel a deep cleaning I had already scheduled with my regular dentist so I did, even though I really needed it. Two weeks later, I showed up for my appointment with Dr. Jose. They brought me back, made me wait a long time, and eventually an assistant came in to tell me that Dr. Torres had completely forgotten to inform anyone that I was supposed to see him. The only thing she left at reception was a treatment plan for extracting tooth #19--nothing about the five extractions, grafts, or implants she originally told me I needed. The assistant said Dr. Torres would call me that day to apologize and clarify and she never did. I chose this center because of the glowing reviews, but my experience was the complete opposite. It was unprofessional, disorganized, and a total waste of my time. Time I could have spent getting proper care somewhere else. After this ordeal, I went to The Mugford Center, and the difference was night and day. They were professional, responsible, and actually followed through. I ended up getting all the treatment I needed there without any of the runaround. The thousands of dollars I was prepared to spend at Columbia Center for Implants & Periodontics ultimately went to The Mugford Center instead. A place I recommend 100%.

Before the surgery the doctor introduces himself, he asks if you have any questions, and he goes over the process in detail. I did not need laughing gas, he numbed me very well, and I did not feel a thing. I listened to my music, about an hour or so I was done. The entire was amazing, parking was great, and the office looked clean. As soon as I got there he was ready so I did not have to wait. 5/5 experience and I would recommend him! I did not understand the coding involved and was told "the first 2 procedures will be covered but we need to submit additional information for the 3rd". I scheduled my first two procedures and was told they would take care of the rest in the mean time. After missing and rescheduling my first appointment (which was due to a medical condition, but I was still charged $75), I received a voicemail to confirm my next appointment a few days beforehand. I did not have a chance to call back that day before they closed due to the fact that their office closes before I get off of work. Today I received and outright NASTY toned voicemail stating "I definitely needed to call them back to confirm".
