The first times I was a customer of Michaelangelo's was from 1988 through 1992. This was Monterey Park and my introduction to fast food/restaurant pizza since I was 9 to 10 years old. I remember the Addams Family pinball table, the original Turtles arcade, King of the Monsters, Baseball Stars, the octagonal shape bar counter adjacent to the open pizza kitchen, the wall mirror tiles with yellow veins over the red leather booths and the RGB TV projector showing Raiders games on the walls. I remember the slices, pepperoni when I was that kid, the tomato sauce was thicker, chunkier. After Mikey's closed and moved I figured it was over, the end of an era forever. I learned of a Michaelangelo's in San Dimas through casual research in 2019, there is a Michael Angelo's somewhere in California but it wasn't until after the pandemic that I learned through more research the San Dimas and Monterey Park locations were/are the same place. I returned for the first time in 34 years May of '26. I ordered a medium meat lovers pizza to see what would happen. The dark red walls, the multiple flat screens and the modern arcade decor are a far cry from the 80's and early 90's. Still, they provide a welcome atmosphere of familiarity. The nostalgia builds all over again. The recipe felt so familiar and delicious to me but more than that. Michaelangelo's pizza tasted like memories. I tried the Michaelangelo's special in June. The Supreme pizza that you don't appreciate as a kid but only as an adult. The almost sourdough taste to the crust, the olive oil or canola oil flavor to the vegetables and cheese. I requested and got an extra layer of marinara sauce at no extra charge. It was sweet, tangy, I do miss the thick, chunky texture the sauce used to be on those slices but, as most of us old timers say, that was a long time ago. Based upon my three recent visits to Mikey's, because I am not in their 5 mile radius and I can only visit once a month, Michaelangelo's Pizza 1985 gets a solid from me. Do not order ahead of time except for catering. Walk in to order and visit as late as 7 to 7:30pm as they'll still keep those ovens on. Forget Domino's, bland. Forget Pizza Hut, it's spicy sponge. Forget Little Caesars, the cheese is Chef Boyardee. Chuck E. Cheese, WTF is that?! Forget Round Table, Shakeys and Straw Hat, their pizzas are the typical pay grade above DiGiornos but Michaelangelo's pizza tastes like memories, absolute bloody good memories. And nothing, I mean nothing has literally replaced the empty space that Michaelangelo's left behind in Monterey Park near East Los Angeles College longer than a few months. All those businesses failed and continue to fail. When I go there, it's not just the great pizza but the 80's and early 90's trip through time in TV and video games. Went around 4pm yesterday (Tuesday) it was empty which was understandable because of this heat. The cashier was a bit rude and seemed to be rushing us to order. After she took our order she was off the clock, I see why. The 2 young. cashiers who replaced her were friendly. We got the meat lovers and dry wings. The pizza was a 6.7/10. The wings were big and juicy, they get a solid 7.4/10 It seems like a perfect spot for game nights or huge sporting events. I would definitely come back. read more

The pizza is good, I am a fan of bread-y thicker crust, which was yummy! It could use a bit more sauce but overall the pizza was good! Zucchini fries were good too, normal frozen Zucchini fries. Unfortunately each time that we have stopped in to the restaurant or called its been disappointing as far as service. I wouldn't say they are rude, but not friendly, not welcoming, very dry and almost like you're bothering the staff being thereand asking a question. We came in one night maybe 20 minutes before closing time, just to ask a question and we were told before and after the question that they're closing up very soon. My husband and I have been coming to this restaurant for quite a few years but it seems that the last 2 years that service has gone down. tried ordering to go half an hour before closing at least which our order of a pizza and salad normally takes 10-15 mins. The phone was picked up told kitchen is closed and then was hung up on. Bought lunch for a customer after they recommended Michaelangelo's and liking their pizzas. I preordered the night before for it to be ready when they opened the following day, which it was and right on time, great service l, the lady behind the counter was nice and helpful. We got a Pepperoni, a vegetarian and Michaelangelo's Special, along with garlic bread and a large green salad with blue cheese. The pizzas were tasty, a lot of toppings and the edges were crispy, I would have preferred the overall crust to stand up better, floppy on the specialty pizzas, but I guess that may be expected with the amount of toppings, but still very enjoyable and I liked it. The garlic bread was good, perfectly toasted, buttered, but not a lot of garlic. Which that could be a good or bad thing depending on taste, I prefer a bit more garlic, but again, very tasty. Lastly the salad, greens, tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, pepperoncinis and mozzarella cheese, with blue cheese dressing. The blue cheese is homemade, but misses the mark for me, I typically love homemade restaurant blue cheese, but this one not so much, something was just off with it and I could not use it and enjoy the salad. I am sounding picky, which I don't mean to be, and I am not, just giving my experience. I love a good pizza spot. The space itself is large, lots of tables, decor inside is nice and feels like a classic pizza spot the also have beers on tap and has a nice game area for the kids. If I was Dave Portnoy I would give this pizza a solid score of 6.5! The hot wings are also great and the ranch is homemade which is the best kind! Service is very friendly and ambiance at the new location is the same as the old, flat screen TVs, long tables and a few arcade games as well. I usually order the pepperoni/mushroom or the pepperoni/sausage pizza. Sometimes it has a slight flop, but not too much to where you have to fold it. Crust is crispy, not hard, but not soft, just the right amount of crispy. Cheese is the perfect consistency and not super greasy. Like I said, solid 6.5 pie. Excellent pastas and pizzas. Their wings are so bomb too. I loved that they had those video games for the little ones to entertain themselves with while us adults relaxed and had beers. My kid attended so many birthday parties here and the staff was always so patient with him and his little friends even when they would run around because they were so excited to be around each other outside of school. I had to escape the 57 fwy and found this restaurant for a quiet late lunch escape. I was in the mood for a personal pizza and the lady recommended the pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, bell pepper and olive pizza special. I was sold. This small sized pizza was beyond a personal pizza size (six slices). It was very fresh, hot and tasty! I spent the next half hour debating myself to bring half of the pizza home, or have lunch and dinner in one sitting. Lunch/dinner won out and I was content for the rest of the day! I was hungry walking in and I left very content. I recommend this cheerful casual restaurant. As a traveling business person, I'll plan to be back! I'm not one to leave reviews but I feel obligated for this one. Pizza was good, however the service was awful. Every single employee is on their phone, no hospitality what so ever, they seem bothered by people asking a question. The kid that brings the pizza out just sets it down and doesn't say a word, walks away, and we have no plates or napkins. We had to get up and go ask for plates. Biggest thing that bothers me is all the employees buried in their phones, highly disrespectful to your customers in my opinion. Expect decent pizza, but don't expect good service. read more

Place is ran by kids, no Managment. Glad there offering opportunity, but the they can clearly lack customer service skills. This place was much better at their last location. I can't say enough about how much I have enjoyed the food! The Calzone is just amazing, the marinera sauce soooo delicious, The ravioli's are huge as is the side salas the meal comes with, and the garlic bread as well. I can make two meals out of one dinner. Well, I am pretty disappointed with the cleanliness, or lack of here. The trash cans were overfilled, spilling over onto the floor, also, the floor has trash all over the place at the tables where people eat. As I'm eating my pizza, which I really like, and have always liked their pizza, so I have no complaints there, but I see 3 employees just standing around talking, when they should be taking the trash out and sweeping the floors. Poor management in my opinion. I'll probably just have my pizza delivered from now on, I just can't see myself eating at place that doesn't clean up where customers eat. read more
