I stopped in with my daughter to do some shopping. She's been doing needlepoint and needed some supplies. Michaels has them in spades. Needles, frames, patterns and of course, all the yarn you can imagine in different colors, thicknesses and such. Easy to find it in the store, pick what she needed and then pay for it. The staff here seems to hate their jobs, and the company does not care about the customer. Between the self-service checkout (which you're forced to use and will never apply my discounts,) the rudeness of employees when I, heaven forbid, actually ask for assistance, and the fact that the yarn and crochet hooks are mostly store brand now, I see little reason to return. There are MANY wonderful yarn brands that aren't given space in this store. I don't understand why I have to buy low quality Loops and Threads and one or two lines of Caron or Bernat. If you do find something you like in Caron Cakes, don't expect to find more than one or two skeins in each store. Unfortunately, Wal-Mart has a better yarn selection than this 'craft' store. Clover Amour hooks are a mainstay but can you get them here? Nope - you're only offered store brand with slippery handles and heads that aren't finished properly (ie - snag your yarn). Oh, you can buy the whole set of Clover for $90, but not a single hook in the size you actually need. You're stuck with their garbage brand. I can't believe this chain has survived this long, especially since they have made it clear that they'd rather not have to engage with customers even when taking their money. read more

Some little tubby girl with glasses and a bad attitude decided to very rudely tell my mother "please don't go through the bins on the ground because everything you need should be in the shelf". She had a rude tone and a nasty look on her nasty face. We were about to ask her for an item we were looking for since we can't go through the bins ourselves, and she just walked away before we could ask. Then when my mom reported the behavior to the manager, I could easily tell she was trying to butter my mom up but I wasn't going for it. I've worked retail for over a decade so I know all the tricks that managers use. Then once the situation died down a bit, my mother and I were preparing to leave and I heard the manager MICHELLE to be exact, say "oh good everyone's behaving" as my mother and I were leaving. I don't appreciate the passive aggressive comment made about me and my mother. I'm sure Michelle doesn't know that I heard her make that comment but trust and believe she's gonna find out soon. I ran into Michael's with groceries in my car for a purchase I thought would be super quick. I was buying a gift card. When I arrive There's only one team member working upfront. She's doing online orders, helping with issues at the kiosk, checking customers out. I stood in line for over 10mins, as next in line because a woman was going back and forth with items online and in the store. I left and came back 20 mins later and still a long wait. I wanted to purchase a gift card so I couldn't use the self checkout kiosk. A complete hold up in my Sunday errands. This location needs more help . As a chain store, this Michaels is just like all the rest. Artsy-fartsy stuff, lots of interior décor, fabrics, paper, etc. You can make just about anything with what they have here as long as it doesn't require heavy duty drilling and the kind of stuff you need from a Lowe's. Unfortunately, I feel the place is quite overpriced. There is uniqueness and variety here and you may find some things here that you won't find anywhere else in a brick and mortar store. I ended up returning some colored pencils because I found plenty of other options that work great for cheap at other stores. I was surprised even to find things more affordably priced at Barnes & Noble, arguably another specialty store. I didn't have much interaction with staff but have nothing bad to say. Everyone working here seems to be just getting by. I wouldn't call it service with a smile but there's no rudeness either. I will generally only come back here when I need something very specific that I know would be hard to find elsewhere. read more

My normal Michaels is in Park Rd Shopping Center, but there's always an excuse to visit any Michaels. This location is closer to my new job so I've been here a couple of times. The store is always very pristine. The layout always throws me off cause the custom framing is in the front/middle left instead of the back right of the store and everything else is flip flopped, but same great selection (just different shelves). I still remember when this building didn't exist and there was a big gap in the buildings in Stonecrest. Glad they filled it in for more shopping. The parking lot is still not my favorite, but just be careful. The last trip here I watched this lady back up her car for a full 5 min (i'm pretty sure she was using the back up camera and was going SO SLOW!!) Anyways.... Staff here are nice and you still have to go through "the gauntlet" of last minute impulse buying before you get to the registers. I think this location is actually "smaller" so they have more "height" and the shelving is super high. Bring a tall friend or just ask for help from an associate. There are a number of moving staircases they can move to reach things. read more

I went there to put a frame on two photos and the employee Miranda Hope was amazing. Custom work was too expensive and I decided to take a frame off the shelf. Mirands went above and beyond what I expected. I have never had first class service as perfect as hers. She deserves a good raise or a high promotion at the Store. (6/9/13) I'd never had a picture framed at Michael's. For a number of years I had used another gallery across from the Park Road shopping center. Then there was a lull... My wife started working for Michael's and got to know the head of the framing department. She suggested that we have a watercolor of my parents' former house reframed. I brought the watercolor up to the store on Sunday afternoon. I arrived a bit early and brought it to the framing center. The framing manager's name is Steve. Steve has been with Michael's for a very long time & is very capable with helping customers to choose the perfect combination of mats & frames. Michael's has an interesting computerized system where the artwork is photographed & digitized. It is then displayed on a computer with the chosen mats & frames. It makes it a lot easier to visualize the finished piece. Steve worked with my wife and I for about an hour. I think we will soon have a reframed picture that we will be proud of. read more

Come here for all of your arts & craft needs. I was just tagging along on this trip, but they have it all covered. The employees are nice enough, but the store was so busy, the check out line took a very long time. I dont think they had enough people staffed. One thing I didnt care for is that the aisles are pretty thin. Yeah, they dont have much space here that isn't being used, but when a few people are in am aisle, things get really tight. Other than that, you will have a nice visit if you are there during a slow period. But I would get your holiday stuff early to avoid these issues. read more

I've been here a few times and just hate it!! You can never find anyone who works here to help you! Last time I came here there were only 2 employees and both were at the front!!! She said there should be people on the sales floor but after searching the whole place for 10 mins I couldn't find any! The only good thing was that the cashier used some coupons to get me $10 off my purchase! The sad thing is that I came here for quilling paper but couldn't find it! I got all this other stuff that I didn't need! It is pretty small and cramped too, it's better to take a basket instead of a cart because it's impossible for 2 carts to go side by side through some isles!!! I was in this Rea Road, Charlotte NC store yesterday and Angela went above and beyond to help me! I asked her a question regarding a rug on clearance, 10 minutes later I bought the rug at a lesser price than on the on the ticket with Angela's help! Then she offered to carry the rug out to my car! This place is always busy and today was the best visit thanks to Tig, an employee who made things so easy for me! I'm planning a wedding and doing lots of diy for the first time. Let me first start off by saying I love Michaels and it's my go to store for craft and decor needs, but I won't be back to this location. Went in for online order store pick up. The store pick up is located in the framing department. The middle aged shorter man with glasses that works in framing department needs some serious training in customer service. In the short time I was there he made it known that he felt the customers coming to the framing section for store pick were a huge inconvenience to him. Keep in mind he's not actually the one gathering the pick up orders or managing the transaction with the customer. We, the customers, didn't choose the framing section as our pick up location. If he has an issue with that he should take it up with his manager rather than taking his frustrations out on the customers. He went on to outwardly voice his complaints to a colleague, a woman with gray hair who seemed to share his sentiments in disliking the online pick up orders, while customers were on the floor. I got the impression he wanted us to hear him. Look I get it, we all have bad days & need to vent out frustrations but there's a time & a place. Sadly I don't have much more to go off of for this store other than that negative experience, and won't be back to this location see if it's any better next go around. read more

we are from out of town just popping in for a quick purchase, and low and behold we had to use the rest room , we asked one of the employees at this location where the bathrooms were... and god forbid we forgot to pee before coming in. Apparently asking for a public restroom is a cardinal sin in the location . the gentleman we asked was incredibly rude and couldn't be bothered to be even remotely polite. Anyone with high school kids is familiar with Michaels. Whenever there is a school project, they are our go to store. Fortunately we have two within 5 miles of us in South Charlotte. This is the newer one, and as such, I give it a slight edge over the older one at the Arboretum on Providence Road. Coupons are readily available, so never go without one. read more

Michael's is Arts and Crafts Disney for kids. My kids go crazy in here. It's like an endless supply of things, to stick, cut, paste, color, paint and throw glitter on. This location is pretty well organized. There was a nice colored chalk display and some really cool scented markers. The bad news is that in general, their retail prices are inflated. I have been to this location before. About 6 years ago I had them do a custom framing job for a beautiful Hermes Scarf that I have. On this occasion I wanted to try framing myself. I found a beautiful frame in just the tone of gold I had been looking for. I got very lucky in this instance because like the selection of DIY matting the frame selection was moderate at best. I then went to isle 71 I believe where they had a fabulous selection of heavy duty beautifully colored Cardstock paper! Here I found the perfect shade of gray to finish up my framing project! Everyone I came in contact with working at this store were nice and pleasant. I even asked one associate about any current coupons. She invited me to pull up the Michael's website on my phone and there she pointed out was a 50% off coupon 1 Full Priced item! I saved $15 dollars on the $30 Frame. I made my purchases came home and within about 15 to 20 minutes my project was complete! I am so pleased with how it turned out! I have a photo posted below. I am SO excited to have this new Michael's so close to home!!! I'm an avid baker and love crafts so I visit Michael's almost on a weekly basis. I really like this store! They have a good selection and the sales people are extremely helpful and friendly. Even during the very busy Christmas season, the sales associated greeted everyone with a smile and were happy to help in any way they could. They would even use their phones to scan online coupons since my Windows phone won't bring them up properly. That's going above and beyond! I have shopped at every Michael's store within a 50 mile radius of Waxhaw and it's the service that sets this store apart from the rest. Because of that, I give this store 5 stars because, for me, it's "as good as it gets" for Michael's. read more

I have been to this store a few times because michaels apparently seems to be going extinct. There is tons of parking at this location and it's in a shopping development area. This place has several Knick knacks for baking, sewing, scrap booking, framing, etc. if you download the app or go to the site you can easily get a coupon to use on your purchase. Each time I have gone it's so hard to find a sales person. The only person I will see will be at the register. I walk down each aisle and see no one. It just so happens that I always have a question when I come that will never get answered because I can not locate anyone here. I'm not typically a needy shopper, but it's just the random times I go here I can't find what I need or get the help. It's a popular store and the line is always long. I have gone in the middle of the day when I am thinking most will be at work and the line is down the aisle with one cashier. Prepare yourself to wait in line! The store is dusty and not well kept up, but this isn't a surprise since they are lacking sales associates. Try another location if you can if you want a full or better shopping experience. People may overall like this place because of the area, but this store is lacking. read more

In an effort to be more "artsy" I ordered a print from my college and figured I'd bring it to have it framed to put up in my house. My wife and # 2 daughter went Saturday afternoon, this was my first time in Michaels since, I'm a guy you know. WOW, what a first impression....it's like I am in arts and craft heaven if there is such a place. They had pretty much everything from trinkets for school projects to canvas things you can paint on. Anyway I waited in line for the framing section which was 2 people deep but it moved quickly. I handed the lady my print and since I'm a framing virgin she immediately started separating me from my money. I should have just handed her my wallet. The lady was very helpful and made some great suggestions. Only thing was when it was all said and done I walked out spending over $200 for a frame!!! WOWEE who knew that's what it costs? I sure didn't. It's going to take a few weeks for my frame and for the $$ I bet it will be gorgeous. Michaels has just about everything you need for craft type projects so I would definitely go back if I needed some popsicle sticks, or tie dye paint for a shirt. This Michael's relocated from Stonecrest from Carolina Pavillion off of South Boulevard. It is big, bright and has everything you might need for a crafting project. I really like how it is conveniently located, and they always have great coupons on their app. Only problem is they usually only have 1 cashier and a line of people. I went there for wreath hangers. I had a hard time finding them and a harder time finding someone to help me. In fact, I never found anyone! Finally I found the wreath hangers and a few other items that I needed. I picked up some ribbon that was in the bin that was marked 70% off. Surprisingly, when I got to the register, I was told that that roll of ribbon was not on sale. Someone had mistakenly put it in the discount bin. The store shelves were not well stocked. The stores seemed to be in disarray. Maybe they are recovering from the holidays still. The best thing about this experience is that I searched my phone for a Michael's coupon and one popped up, right while I was shopping there! I showed the bar code at the register and I got 40% off one of my items. Easy way to save some money. If you are reading this review and don't search for a Michael's coupon on your phone, you are missing an opportunity to save some $$. There is my TIP for you. Glad I went there because I got what I needed. I wish they had more people on the floor to assist customers and I wish they had their shelves more stocked. Otherwise, I am glad that they are there. Love this store now that management has improved! I didn't prefer to go here when they first opened because it didn't seem like the employees were very trained or had any customer service. Their manager was any better. It's like they didn't care if you shopped there or not so I would actually drive past Stonecrest and head over to the one at the Arboretum! Customer service is a big one for me. But in the last year or two, I started going to this one more (for convenience) and it seems to have had a huge lift in spirit! I no longer drive past it to go to the other Michael's. I enjoy the brighter attitude I've come in contact with! And my experience with their manager Pat was exceptional! The customer service here couldn't be much worse. I have two school age children, so I've been in a couple of times to buy materials for projects. We've never been able to find what we're looking for, and the employees are consistently unavailable or unwilling to help.
