Considering that there are only two other yarn stores in the greater Richmond area, it's nice to know that there's something for everyone if you're in Richmond proper. You may also find a range of customer service. The first time I went in, I felt very welcomed by the staff members and they answered all of my questions. I was happy to make my purchase. This is what prompted me to return. The second time I went in, the staff member at the register was chatting with an exiting customer about the election. I don't mind a political disagreement or difference but I do mind vindictive racially charged whispers. If your hand is over your mouth as you gleefully lean into your inner mean girl, a part of you knows that what you said isn't entirely classy. Your candidate winning does not excuse bad manners or a lack of decorum. However, it's low form to wish the losing candidate ill, and to hope that they go back to the hole they crawled out of. Wow. It just goes to show that age is not associated with class. Folks are entitled to their opinions, but if you're a staff member hoping to make a sale, it's probably best to keep that under wraps or at least away from your workplace. Not classy, not demure, not mindful at all, and definitely not the kind of behavior that would make America great ... at any point. Note: I do not believe that this staff member reflects the entirety of the others. I do think that, had it not been the day after the election, this person may have been less likely to be less mindful of others in the store. That said, big moments in history do reveal our true character, and I hope this staff member takes the time to be more empathetic and aware of their surroundings the next time they are at their workplace.

Lots of examples of what you can make with yarns. Great notions and project bags. They offer virtual shopping as well. I needed quite a bit of yarn for my project, so while I am in love with some of the locally dyed yarn selection, I did buy a commercial brand. It is gorgeous and perfect for the cardigan I want to make. Staff was so helpful; spent time with me helping to pick the yarn out and match the colors. I got a great project bag with sheep. I could have spent more money, but there is a budget involved! If you're in the area, this is a go too. Even if you cannot get there, sign up for a virtual shopping tour! I will definitely be back.

Now in her 80s, knitting is her favorite pass time, and so we stopped in at Center of the Yarniverse to check out their offerings. This is such a great place to browse a variety of yarn, wool, patterns, beautiful books, tools of the trade, and I walked away with some holiday gift ideas. The ladies who were working this day were welcoming without being overbearing. I actually ended up purchasing something small (and locally made) for myself, and I felt zero judgement for it not being related specifically to knitting and or crocheting. I noted that they have classes and social events. And another great thing is that there is parking! Ashland can get a little busy so having parking right at the shop is very much appreciated. This place is the Spot! I came here for a work event and we made glass pumpkins (it's definitely…read morenot inexpensive but was a great experience). Everyone had a really great time picking their colors and doing the glass blowing. The pumpkins came out really great and the pickup process was super easy! My one complaint would be that we were such a large group (we had 2 groups back to back) and I was in the 2nd group- you could tell the staff got tired (very understandable since they had to make 20+ pumpkins) and they didn't do a great job explaining the process ahead of time. On the upside, they were great about talking you through it in the moment. It was pretty dummy proof since the staff did most of the process for you, I don't think I can say I actually did "glass blowing" which I think is fine. Overall, would recommend this for events (but maybe smaller groups) and the staff is really skilled. They have a shop up front which I would recommend checking out!
