This Michaels is great for beginning crafters. My daughter decided to create a diaper bouquet for a friend's baby shower, so we grabbed the last of the items she needed to build it from sticks to rubber bands. We made a last minute run for the items and the friendly staff was able to direct us to find everything that we needed. One of the worst websites I have ever dealt with. When I went to get my credit card to complete my order, the website changed all my items from 1 to 8 each. I couldn't change it, had to remove all items and restart my order. Then I was sent to refresh hell where I couldn't place an order or it said my address was already in system but I couldn't access it. After an hour, finally got a "customer service" rep, who could not resolve the issue, just said it was an issue with my browser, and I could call to place an order, but had no explanation or remedy for why their website could not process an order. Terrible website, terrible customer service and will not order from Michael's again read more

I have certainly visited this store plenty of times on my last two trips to Michigan! I went back to knitting in 2009 and to crochet in 2012 so I'm always in need of yarn whether I'm at my home base or traveling around. When I run out of a color or start a new project I'm likely to be at one of the Michaels, Jo-Ann's or Hobby Lobby picking up whatever I need. I especially like their Charisma yarn which is nice and thick and very soft and very multi purpose. They have pretty good sales and always coupons for 40% or 50% off one item. They will even let you use a coupon from Joann or Hobby Lobby. Using coupons was much easier this trip because of the mobile apps and the fact that they will allow you to just show them the coupon off your phone, compared to my last trip where I had to try and round up paper coupons to use. The mobile coupons are so much easier for people that are traveling and don't have a newspaper to clip coupons out of or receive ads in the mail. If you have a smartphone, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to track down a coupon to get money off on one or two items. I've had pretty good luck with friendly employees although they don't always know their merchandise as well as I do. I often do better at finding items on my own rather than asking. Point in case, I asked a clerk yesterday if she knew if they had any fabric medium, the milky liquid you add to acrylic paints to make them into fabric paints. She pointed me over to the section with the Liquitex which is $10 - 25 dollars for a small bottle. I was looking for the less expensive bottle made by Deco color, Apple, Plaid, or Folk Art paints. I found a small bottle for about $2.50, maybe two ounces, but was hoping to find a bigger one since I could get 50% off of it with my coupon. It took quite a bit of looking but I did eventually find a section where there was a larger bottle for $8 so I got it for only $4. I was just glad that they had even if I did have to search for it. The lines are sometimes short and sometimes long but nearly every time I've been there they keep the lines moving pretty quickly so even a long line doesn't take all that long to go through. I haven't had much problem with them being out of stock on the items I'm looking for so that's a good thing too. All in all I've been pretty happy with shopping here. Since it's a chain store at least I know where everything is for the most part. I even have customers walking up to me occasionally asking me if I know where things are and I can usually lead them to the section where the items are located. They sometimes get embarrassed if they realize I'm not an employee and I just joke about how I ought to get a commission for helping people find things, LOL! read more

Wonderful place for artistie people or every people with kids -- they also hold children activities as the parents shop or they are also join them. This place will bring out your creative side of you and everything is well organized. I will say... some cashier are a little rude but I just ignore them and go to someone else. Cashiers starts to get crabby around holiday's because there's a lot of people and the lines get backed up on a regular basics. This is one of my favorite stores! I really like this location as well. The only reason I took one of the stars away is because there is almost always a VERY long line of customers waiting to check out, and they never call for extra cashiers. They are very knowledgeable about their products, and are very helpful when it comes to coupons, too. Oh Michael's, how I have a love-hate relationship with your Livonia location. Whenever I come here, I'm either mildly impressed or slightly disappointed. Not really disappointed to where I'm on the, "I NEED TO SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER!!!" level, but I'm also not going to go out of there clicking my heels and telling all of my friends about how they should stop at the Michael's on Middlebelt Road in Livonia. And here's why... My experience usually consists of one or more of the following scenarios. a) I find what I need then get out of there quickly with excellent customer service at the register b) I find what I need but it be the only one in the store and it's quite damaged c) I have trouble finding what I need because the stock is a hot mess in a dress d) not find it at all and I ask a stock person about it then get the response, "Look at your Michael's app." OR e) not find it at all and I ask a stock person but get ignored Um. How is looking on an app going to tell a person if you have the item physically in the store? I work in retail as well. There is such a thing as incorrect stock numbers. Just check or have an employee check if you're occupied. And how is blatantly ignoring someone going to help either party? Again, I work in retail too and I've learned that etiquette is EVERYTHING. Never ignore a customer - I learned that at least acknowledging someone is better than not saying anything at all. Anyways, this Michael's is definitely hit or miss. I prefer this Michaels to the Novi or Commerce store. They always have everything I need in stock unlike the other stores. They could use more floor associates because as other reviews have mentioned I could not find anyone to help me. Lines were a bit long as only one cashier was working on a Saturday morning. First of all, I LOVE craft stores. With that said, this is not one of my favorites. The whole experience was ugh. It started off online. I located the item I wanted and the item number. It said the item was in stock, so I called so that it could be held for me. After waiting and waiting, the young lady answered and said she would check. She was back so fast, I doubted how she could have actually looked. So I went in, since I had other things I wanted. When I arrived, I couldn't find the area the items were in. I also couldn't find any help on the floor. I had to wander the store aimlessly. Finally, I went to a cashier, who with irritation directed me to an aisle. I found out she was irritated because she didn't know. I gave up, got one of my items and went to stand in line. As I am waiting, just glancing around I see the item she sent me to the back of the store for setting at the end of the row, just down from the cashier area. REALLY?! I was completely done. That was definitely my last trip to that location. read more

The store still needs a little TLC but I will say HALLELOO they've upgraded the carts! I can actually push them around corners without having to lift them off the ground and I don't need earplugs to drown out the screeching as I go around the store. Upgrade on that front for sure! Oh man I can see why this store has such a terrible rating!! There is stuff thrown everywhere i walked into the store and walked around for 25 mins trying to locate epoxy resin and molds I could not find ANYONE who works there. The lines were also long I managed to ask a cashier she said "yeah we don't have anyone working on the floor today" ..are you kidding me? Also it shows!! Wont be back here! I'm not such a fan of this location. Aisles are narrow and it seems like the merchandise is going to topple over head and bury you. It's a bit disheveled. I prefer the Westland, Madison Heights or Novi stores which are much more organized. read more

I went to the Michaels in Livonia to have a couple of magazine pictures framed. The people there were quite pleasant. I had two relatively small pictures that I wanted reframed because the frames didn't have any glass protecting them. $77 for one and $66 for the other. These are magazine pictures, not rare art. I just had the best customer service today. The cashier's name is Margaret. She went above and beyond the call of duty today when helping all her customers. She explained, without having to ask, the coupon policy and she explained how my app works. She took care of me and another customer at the same time with a smile and grace. Seems to be a problem getting decent help - or at least not rude ones. Lots of empty merchandise slots and the big shopping days loom near like in 4 days! There is so much stuff here, most of which I don't know what to do with. Constant barage of coupons, sales, but never quite giving you the bargain you thought you'd get. This is sadly the face of retail in the 21st century: insufficient staff, pushed and stressed, and marketing tactics that confuse the public with poorly labeled sale items and tiny fine print on coupons no one can read on a cell phone anyway. read more

Wow, let me say I was visiting Detroit from Fayetteville NC. I bought my mom a canvas picture ( not from Michaels) but it did not have the hanging hardware on the back. So, I took my picture to Michael's to get the hardware put on the back. Soon as I walked in I was followed, then one of the staff members came back to the framing section ask me what I needed, I told her I need the framing hardware installed on my picture...she was "Nice Nasty" she told me the didn't do that if I did purchase the frame from Michaels. I explained to her that I have had that done numerous time in NC. So, she goes in the back and comes back, she stated she called the framing Manager and he stated they could do that because of " framing liability"....WHAT?? I was totally upset. Walked right out the store, called the Michaels in Southfield Mich and explain the situation about the picture and explained that the framed picture was NOT purchased at Michaels....HE SAID NO PROBLEM...BRING IT IN AND HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT....Guess what HE Did. Livonia Michaels SUCKS!! Gave them one star...it wouldn't post without giving a star rating...however, they deserve 0 stars. read more
