Icarus is a great employee! There was a line of 3-4 people last night around 8:15 pm, and a pricing issue at the register. But Icarus remained super upbeat, calm, friendly, and helpful! Well done! We were able to find everything we came for. The sections of markers, colored pencils, scrapbook papers, and stickers are well-stocked, and reasonably priced. Plenty of parking. I agree with one of the reviews. This location needs more staff members on the sales floor to assist with customers questions/assistance. I do like the fact that this location has a wider variety of merchandise in stock. Lots of fun and colorful crafts and decorations. Some things can be a little pricey. But there is always a coupon online or in store for you to apply to your bill. I always like the many great selection on the seasonal items. read more

This might be the worst Michael's I've ever been to. I have genuinely never left a store crying before until today. This tiny, cramped, ancient-looking store is full of incorrectly-marked items, most of which I bought ended up being double the price as marked. Somehow I racked up a ticket of over $120 when I only bought a handful of CraftSmart paints, two 14in x 18in canvases, a kid's toy easel (was marked 7.99 at the endcap, was more than double the price on the receipt), and finally a little plastic palette. I thought for sure my cart wouldn't be more than $60-70, and I thought THAT was an overestimation. I feel scammed, man. Typically, in situations like these, I would think "well duh, just use the price checker before you get to the checkout, 4head," but they have these really TERRIBLE checkers that point straight down to the floor with little metal walls on either side, so the only things you can price-check are things one can fit between the walls. The walls are probably 9 inches apart from each other, so that's severely limits the things you can check. On top of all of this, they have merchandise blocking your view of the computer that reads out what's being scanned at checkout, so you can't even embarrass yourself by asking them to delete items before you've already received your receipt. I'm just mad that, in an effort to save money, I chose to go here over Hobby Lobby. I won't make that mistake again. read more

I went to Michael's after attending a family members funeral to uplift our spirits and our family I decided to buy a 7 ft tree upon going to the cash register I had two $100 bills that I had just dispensed from the ATM..I proceeded to checkout I was told by the cashier that the $100 would not go through the machine so I had to speak to the manager Kathy. One of the cashiers at Michaels was very helpful she had like a purplish blue hair she said that the $100 bills are not fake. She said she knew how to read the 100 but Kathy the store manager who was not customer friendly said that they could not accept the 100 bills. I've been a customer for over 20 plus years I've never experienced this before so I did take the money back to my bank and teller gave me change for the $200 bills and said they were not fake so my suggestion is to Kathy the store manager you guys need to get new machines as well as give Kathy the store manager a training on customer friendly attitude. Future Michaels customers do not bring 100 bills to Michaels for purchases. Thank you read more

The store is nice. I would agree it is not as large and organized as Hillside but it carries almost all of your craft needs. Over the last month, I have been in this store at least 10 times. Between the Star Wars trunks, books, Gingerbread decorating kits, Christmas decor, ribbon and everything else in between, I have made the Michael's run. Perhaps the coupons that pour in via text and email are the main reason. But I am sure knowing this location has what I need without the big store crowd and long lines definitely helps. I've been going to Michael's for over two decades now and this location for about 7 years now. If it weren't for the fact that they carry some items that are hard to find other places I would never frequent this location. Today I waited in line for about 10 minutes with no less than 7 other people for the entire duration while one cashier worked her way through customers. She called for the manager Terri twice while myself and 7-10 other customers waited, but Terri did not show until I was walking out. If this had been the first time or even the second time I would be more understanding. Maybe someone called off. Maybe a huge sale was underway and the store was unusually busy for a Monday afternoon. Maybe an especially needy customer held things up in the store for a long time, but this is unacceptable. Going forward I will try to plan in advance and order from Amazon to avoid this store. read more

I found an available employee after wandering around for another 10 minutes. It took the help 10 more minutes of wandering around to locate the display. (Apparently it had been relocated recently.) The staff at Michael's are helpful and pleasant enough, however, one time I was there early enough to hear the manger giving apparently, his weekly pep talk. It was obviously all about the money, "...Push this product... Really encourage the customer to buy... We've got to get this inventory out..." I think he forgot that the store was open to the customers. The layout of the store seems crowded and for specific items defies logic as to their location. Sometimes when looking for certain beading supplies they are out - so I come back when told - and they are still out - so I come back a third time...Get the picture. I believe their coupon policy needs to be tweaked a bit. Once upon a time I purchased some items and received the 40% off your next purchase coupon. I returned a couple of days later and purchased a large canvas, but forgot to give my coupon. A day or two later I was in the area again, and thought, 'Oh, I'll stop in show my receipt and coupon; and receive 40% of the cost back'. I had taken the canvas to school to work on it. No go! Surely, I am a shyster attempting to take advantage of this poor unsuspecting company. I was told I not only had to have the receipt, (which I had) and the coupon, (of course, I had this as well); but I also had to have the actual product, (remember it was at school). Really! I am aware that it was my problem that I forgot to show my coupon at the time of the purchase, but somehow something just seems wrong with this picture, (no pun intended). I have spent hundreds of dollars at this store and have never returned anything, but yet when I try to redeem a 40% coupon, (the second one I've ever done). "No madam, you must have the actual product - it's company policy". This is why I drive the extra miles and go to HOBBY LOBBY, where there are great savings all of the time without coupons, as well as pleasant and helpful staff and an abundance of space, (and great background music, I might add). read more

This Michaels is one of the oldest ones in the area. I'm actually kind of surprised the company hasn't remodeled it yet. Since it's one of the older stores it definitley is darker and less clean looking than other stores in the area. It's also a very small space and it feels like everything is very cluttered and not well orgainized. I do however love the service I get when I'm there. The employees are always walking around so I never have to feel like I'm searching for help. No one ever gets grumpy with me when I ask for help either. I get greeted warmly and helped promptly. Since the store is so small sometimes they can get jammed up pretty quickly. I would suggest going during non peak times. And avoid Sundays like the plague! I have a slight claustraphobia problem and being here on Sunday's freaks me out! read more

This Michael's is ok. I dont go there because I love this particular one i go there because it is the closet one to my house. It is tiny, so there is a limited selection of anything and it is crowded. Even if there isnt a lot of people there it feels crowded. I make cakes and I buy a few things here once in awhile, the cake aisle is usually infested with people with cart and 5 different languages. The check out lines are usually long. Its fine to go to but the one on Manheim in Hillside I believe is much bigger and cleaner and less crowded. read more

Every time I've been to this Michaels location, the checkout lines have been absurdly long. Even worse, there are usually two or three other employees just standing around the checkout area chatting with each other while only one checkout register is being used. Also, lately I've noticed that the store has been getting more and more cramped, like they are shoving way too much stuff into the store. The aisles are getting narrower, and the store is extremely unorganized and confusing to navigate. I'll head to Joann's instead. read more

Every time I have gone here, I've had bad experiences. Either with the staff, selection or overall layout! Layout is disorganized and the staff are hard to find. I had one item and it took forever to go through the line while only one associate was ringing up customers and the other two were outside on their smoke break. The quality of their items has gone down hill too. Tried looking for pre-lit garland and it was a POS for $19.99 which I couldn't use my coupon on because it was already on sale. I love this location (despite the fact that it's next door to Hancock Fabrics. Who's big idea was that anyway? LOL) The only problem I have with this store is the parking lot. Michael's shares its' parking lot with Jewels, Hancock's, Best Buy, and other stores in the strip mall and the parking lot is INSANE. If you can maneuver your way around these nutty drivers and make your way into Michael's, you're in for a treat. The store associates are very knowledgeable, and are always ready to assist you. I've often had to come here to purchase art supplies for school projects and the associates always point me in the right direction and make great suggestions. I love the variety of items this store has; the only problem is it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store! Great prices, good quality items- if you are into arts and crafts, this store is your version of heaven! read more

Kelly and her team went above and beyond with my framing project. I had brought in a newspaper front page to frame celebrating my home teams win. After the framing we saw unforeseen ink creases. Kelly was adamant about making my project great. She contacted the out-of-state newspaper for additional copies. Even after receiving another copy she wasn't satisfied and contacted them again for the last two copies available. I went here with my daughter and we had a great experience! We found everything we were looking for at really reasonable prices. I also found a bunch of other cute puzzles and what not for the kids all for $1 or $5 max. I have to remember this place for birthday gifts in the future. When you go to a craft store, wouldn't you assume at least a handful of the employees would be interested in art? I sought out every employee, which seemed to annoy each and every one of them, for assistance. I was met with zero help, and had an employee say, "We are so busy, I need to help other people." This was within 30 seconds of me asking for help. No offer to get another employee who knew how to help. All I asked for was if they had ANY mermaid themed items. I have no other adjectives besides "mermaid". The resounding answer was, "I don't know. Sorry." No speak of an aisle to check. No questioning further about what I was looking for. Just "I don't know. I went there for the first time today, I had been BEGGING my mother to take me. I wanted to make chokers and one of my friends suggested I try Michael's to buy the supplies. I was completely lost when I got there, and all the workers were in the back eating...??? And using their computers??? And the ones that weren't, were gossiping. When I asked them where I could get the materials they just said "kids section" and I was like ????? Like where T'F is that??? And then I asked a second lady and she had a grumpy attitude and she just pointed at the wall. That was it. That's as good as the customer service gets there I guess. I've been coming here since this location opened and have always experienced mediocre service. The store is organized for the most part, but the middle seemed to have everything jumbled up together with no organization whatsoever. Yesterday I went to take advantage of a special I saw in an e-mail and waited in line to pay for 25 minutes. There were only 2 cashiers for the entire store. I almost left I was so frustrated. Unfortunately there isn't another location as close as this one, so I am stuck. read more

Michael's return policy is one of the worst in retail and their prices are high. Buyer beware. This particular store is messy, unorganized, and the customer service of the sales clerks is horrific. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. I buy items to teach Sunday School and this is a convenient place to pick up items. BUT, I will not step foot in this store again after today's experience with attempting to return items unused WITH the receipt. I have a retail management background, and (especially given the economy and unemployement rate) will take my business to places that value customers. read more

I took a cupcake class on Saturday. The staff was very helpful to look for supplies but the class instructor was very rude with me and my friends. I was missing some supplies and she made me purchase them while the class was still going on and she made me show the receipt too. She was detailed while looking on the receipt, making sire I did nor still anything. I honestly felt like walking out of there. She didn't have patience and she made a comment that "she was doing most of the work" I will no longer go to that location nor want to take any other class. First off, the store is a horrible mess. Looks like they dont have anyone organizing. Theirs no one on the floor to help if you have any questions. When i went up to the registers their was no lines so i browsed through some candy for a minute. I stood up to the register and i had to wait until the cashier was done having a personal conversation with the other cashiers to be rung up. She didn't say hello or ask me how i was doing so i didnt bother to either. I asked if they took competitor coupons and she just said yeah just one. Unpleasant staff and dirty store = never coming back. We step around the mess to get to the custom framing counter at the back of the store, which is abandoned. As we look around we ask several employees if there is any staff available, and they say that she is on her break and no one can help us until her break is over. This is at 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon. When she is finally off her break, we begin measuring our poster and she immediately goes into the hard sell about spending four times the poster's value to preserve the poster.We finally convince her we really, truly only want the basic package currently advertised in the poster-size ad on the counter next to us, and she totals up a price literally almost twice the advertised price. I ask her why we are not getting the advertised price and she shrugs irritably and says she does not know. We ask her if she can find the manager or otherwise figure out why the giant advertisement is not being honored, and she then changes her story and says our poster is "over-sized." I point again to the giant ad and emphasize that our poster is not even in the largest category covered by the ad; we are a good 18 inches UNDER the ad's range. She smirks and says she cannot get us a lower price, and when we ask to speak to a manager again, the response is that the manager is not going to be able to help us anymore than she can. I hope Michael's is aware of how terrible this store is; the Michael's in Joliet is about the most helpful place on earth and we are actually thinking a drive out there might be worth the trip. Most of the time the employees are great. Its the managers that are not very helpful. On the day before Valentines day I went in there for heart shaped tealights that I needed for gift baskets. I found some on clearance at another Michaels but at this location they were not marked clearance, I asked a manager if she knew if they were on clearance here too, knowing that not all stores may carry the same clearance items. She walks over to the label and points out that the label is not a clearance label and that its "regular price". I have worked in the retail industry most of my life. I know how to read a label! All I need was for her to scan it and confirm. Well I continue on with my shopping all the while hearing two managers walk the store barking orders to employees. I finally get to the register to pay, the cashier was super friendly and she gives me a price check on the tealights and what do you know.....they were on clearance! Anywho, I go to Michaels.com to give them my "feedback" a manager calls me like 3 days later. After I tell him my story, he offers to give me "40% off any regular priced item next time i'm in the store" What a joke! I can get that anytime with the Michaels app on my phone. I just said thanks but no thanks. Store has been remodeled and looks cleaner than before but is still crowded and getting a hold of someone helpful is a hit or miss. read more
