In 2023, The wrecking ball was…read morecoming for the Galleria mall and Westchester Trains & Hobbies became refugees again to find a new home. Unfortunately for me, the new place is 25 miles further north at the Jefferson Valley Mall. This is as far as you can go in Westchester county because Putnam county is just across the street. Like most malls across the country, JVM is not doing great, with not a lot of tenants or customers and it just seems to be barely hanging on. At least their anchor store, Macy's hasn't bailed yet. I'm hardly ever up this way, but when I am, I'll stop in at WTH to see any new stuff (and to see the old stuff). The new store has almost as big a footprint as the Galleria store, but way bigger than the previous White Plains mall one, which got the wrecking ball also (I'm not sure if that's a good omen). Everything was moved here, every plane, train & automobile (literally) and even Barbie (but no Oppenheimer). John told me he has big plans for the new store and to check back for new inventory soon. Each aisle has a hobby specialty. The biggest proportion is in the back where all the model trains reside. Glass cabinets are filled with vintage Lionel trains and other well known brands. The Hot Wheels collection made it over, as well as the Barbie and Hess truck collections. But my main hobby focus are model airplanes and ships and their collection of old kits is pretty impressive. They get new old kits all the time by buying up old collections and reselling. This trip, I got (3) 70's-80's nostalgic plastic airplane kits that I've had or wanted since I was a kid. I could wander the aisles here all day and they would have to kick me out. Maybe I'll go back after I grab some lunch at the food court...

Edison, NJ 08837 If you are a millennial and want to relive your past time, this vintage toy store is right up your alley. This location specializes in action figures, statues, retro home consoles, and other keepsakes. As I entered the store, it had the feel of a museum because many items are not available in retail stores. I was especially impressed with the detail of the action figures. The characteristics of each trait are handcrafted perfectly and I can guarantee you will instantly recognize each specific trait. There is a diverse variety of additional merchandise in True Believers. An entire wall is filled Funko Pop! vinyl figures. Although I don't collect any cards, there are many Pokémon trading cards available; they are surprisingly valuable. The video game systems will also keep you entertained. Engage in the Game Boy or neutralize the bad guys with the Nintendo Zapper; now you are playing with power! Although I currently am not in the market for any novelties, it was still a neat experience exploring this store. It is a must visit for true believer that is young at heart. #truebelievers #menloparkmall

The staff is generally helpful and upbeat. While brick and mortar locations have overhead costs that online doesn't have to deal with, the pricing is still hit or miss, many times you will find amazing deals, sometimes you'll find items that are about what the market value is elsewhere and other times you'll find items that are very overpriced and available for much lower prices both at retail and on the secondary market. That said, it's very easy to be selective about your purchases and still enjoy this location and its bevy of options. I am a regular customer and highly recommend this location to anyone that is into collectibles, games, tcgs, etc.

The store has been in town for over a year now and I've frequented often. The fact that a store…read morewith this kind of character and charm has decided to stick it out speaks to the commitment Corinne (owner) and John (GM) have to offering this unique blend of vintage movies, sports, and collectibles to the community. And like any brick and mortar store, profit margins are tight. That said, in numerous business encounters, I've found pricing to be beyond fair and reasonable. But this is not eBay, Amazon or Walmart. They simply can't "meet or beat" any price when their inventory might be limited in a certain category and/or procured at a price point they can't simply ignore. I would hope a community that wants to see stores like this thrive would appreciate that it must be supported, not by blindly overpaying for product, but understanding that much of the store's stock of merchandise has come to it through many channels and being ok with modest premiums on some (by no means all) items over what you'll find on the internet (where there is no tangible relationship between the parties and the transactions are cold and detached--where the provenance of more esoteric items is questionable at best). Unfortunately, I've seen the store have to put up signs discouraging haggling and rummaging through product. This isn't an ancient Arabian bazaar where you have to haggle for every dollar and deal or you'll lose credibility. It's a business with dedicated individuals trying to offer a welcoming and unique space while pricing the best they can within their modest profit margin targets. And this is not a clubhouse or an extension of your den. Please try to treat the store, merchandise, and humans working here with respect and graciousness. I promise you'll get it in return. And because this is not your play room, but a store catering to the public (many of which come equipped with video security), do not have some misguided expectation that you can berate or criticize the store, its pricing or product and maintain your "privacy". Others in the community who shop here can see and hear you, you're not in your house. And everyone has cell phone cameras that capture any number of public interactions every second of the day. If common decency has no sway over how you carry yourself in public, at least understand that you can't simply carry on with impunity and expect to be cloaked in anonymity. In short, I encourage my fellow patrons to please not let scrounging for the next deal or the impulse to try and nickel and dime the store, because it is unique and accessible, create an atmosphere like so many other impersonal chain stores. Where the desperation to get a better deal, and not (ever) to feel like we've overpaid, turns us into the epitome of lowbrow consumer who doesn't even seem to enjoy the experience. If we think we deserve better, let's try to act our best when shopping at Perfectly Centered and elsewhere in town, and we might just end up being right.
