Came in for a beer, immediately is smelled of dirty wet rag. The whole place was smelly like bad water or everything was wiped off with a dirty rag and no cleaner was used. The beer is .40 more expensive then every other place closer to the down town. I think if the crew would care a bit more. This would be a cool place off the beaten path. For me though it's a no. If the place smells this bad, then I don't want to eat any of the food. read more

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. We arrived at the restaurant with a party of 3 after they said there was no wait and we were told to go upstairs for dining. The bartender said that someone would bring menus up and we could have a seat wherever. We waited upstairs for 20 minutes and still hadn't gotten a menu. We were the only ones upstairs so we finally asked for service. The waitress came up and took our order and we waited another 45 minutes or so for our food. When we finally got our food, the fries were cold, chicken was cold, ranch was clabbered and smelled sour, burgers were not fresh, cheese wasn't melted and we were out of drinks for our whole meal. 0/10 read more

Weekend vacation in Raliegh NC with my husband and baby. We needed to find a place for lunch with our Beagle. The place was very good. They had an umbrella outside for some shade and tried to put some kind of device to keep flies away. I ordered the Club Pub very fresh and tasty Texas's buttery toast with fries also seasoned nice. Rating is based on ambiance and drinks alone, we have yet to try the food because we ate before coming in. They did a great job with Halloween decor it was cozy and inviting with the game on tv. Staff was friendly and nice to talk with. Pros: Very nice outside patio area that welcomes dogs. Super friendly waitress Reasonable Prices for it's great location. Nachos and steak sandwich were good but not great. Mashed potatoes would have been great if not served cold. Cons: Food was cold Spaghetti and meatballs were dried up and flavorless. Set in a historic old house you can choose to sit at the bar, upstairs, or on the spacious patio outside in the back. I highly recommend the fried shrimp plate! I had the shrimp, hushpuppies, slaw, and grilled zucchini. Our waitress was very transparent in letting us know she was short staffed this evening but was right there checking in on us. The owner has changed menu several time. It started out just selling hot dogs and has moved up to more satisfying selections. Good. I have seen an ad for their Jamaican cook that presumably serves something Jamaican like rice and beans but I don't see anything Jamaican on the posted menu. Otherwise, with all due respect the menu looks like any other diner in town with low expectations for something original or upscale. It doesn't have to be another Cypress Hall but could use some imagination in the food offering besides meatballs and hamburgers. MJs is a gourmet restaurant by comparison. I have been here several times and this last time I ended up extremely sick along with some of my family members. The service isn't anything extraordinary, some employees are outside smoking or talking and you can't even get a smile out of them. When the Jamaican chef is working the food is decent, but it's still awful when you end up sick because of it. Wish this place was also a little less crowded on the outside, there is so much going on in the courtyard area. There's lights on the ground and metal chairs everywhere lining the curb. It's just too much junk. Wish I could say I'll be back but I've given this place several chances after getting extremely sick. Went for Mother's Day and it was not busy at all. Took over 10 minutes to get a server and I needed to go ask for one. Took OVER an hour to get our food, a table that came in after us was done eating and left before we even got food and they had more people!! When the food came it was cold and not a single plate did not have an issue. I bought up the issue and was offered another meal but it wasn't worth another hour of wasted time and money! I emailed the manager about the situation and never got a response. We will never go back! read more

The only reason this place gets a 2 was the pina colada was good. Not great, just good. Overall this place was a disaster. We had already eaten and just wanted to try this place cause of the sign claiming a great pina colada. I'm glad too. The cook came out and was a sweaty disaster. On top of that, most the employees looked angry, or not happy to be there. The Tito's and cranberry wasn't very good. Don't overpour. That doesn't make a drink better. It makes it stronger. If we want stronger, we'll just do shots. After paying, I left my card there by accident. Called the next day, they said they would have the manager get back to me after 2pm. I show up at 3pm, still no manager, so they took my number and said they would call. 4pm nothing. I call back at 5pm, still no manager. Why do you have a single point of failure to get a safe open. Luckily our vacation carried over another day, because I finally got ahold of someone to help me, but I was making all the effort, despite being told they would contact me. I show up to get my card, some appearingly angry lady is blocking the register and the person trying to help me couldn't. There was high level of frustration happening behind the scene. People were yelling angrily at each other in the kitchen. Staff out front were complaining to customers that 3 parties of 8 just appeared. No silverware was wrapped, like that's an excuse to treat customers poorly. Of all the places I visited in the 4 days in new Bern, this was the worst. I won't go back, and recommend others spend their coin where they will be appreciated. read more

We ordered a house vodka martini somewhat dirty. The bartender (Jazz)whom also said she was the manager didn't write it down and took 20 minutes to complete the task. What my wife got was gin. Rather than make a scene she kept it. It took another 20 minutes to get the food. The burger was dry and the artichoke spinach dip had a layer of cheese on top, when it cooled you could not use the chips to pick up the dip, because the cheese had hardened. Felt like the food was like a Denny's. Then the bill came and we noticed we were charged for a premium gin. We then told the bartender that we ordered a house vodka martini. Her baffling response was the house martini is gin. WOW And that we never told her we wanted vodka. As I mentioned she did not write it down and she was doing other drinks for 20 minutes. Yet, she insisted she was right. So beware when she makes your cocktails because she tried to slip a premium Gin, which she never tried to explain why she did it. Her explanation is head scratching for sure. We will never go back to this place due to this employee. read more

A Pub and expected no more than Pub Food..We went into the pub and wanted to quick bite before stopping by a local B&B to visit a friend. We've been here a few times but under different management so why not try the new guy. Stepped up to the bar were my Alcoholic wife ordered a Kahlua Hot Chocolate that was pretty good. I had to take a taste to help with my wife's drinking issues. I had the Parm and Garlic wings which were quite tasty. I paired it with slaw which was way off. Almost tasted bad to me but my partner told be it was made with dill. WHAT!!!! Nasty to me.. Had been wanting wings so these were pretty decent. I wish they had more sauces to choose from but I made due. My wife had the Reuben with fries. She noted that the flavor was pretty good but a little tough. Should be a bit more tender. The fries were ok but they are fries..Nothing major to write about there. Overall, a good meal..Nothing more than pub food and that is what we got. Thanks for having us. read more

Stopped in for a light dinner fare of appetizers and was pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere and the outdoor patio were very nice. The appetizers themselves were very good and of generous portions. The wings were amazing, the fired pickles were quite tasty and the nachos were overflowing. It was more than we could eat. The white russians were the best we've had in a long time.
