    Texas Twinkie
    Chastity H.

We stopped by Harry's BBQ for trivia night and had a great time , the atmosphere was fun and the service was excellent. Our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed, which really added to the experience. I ordered the wings and a Texas Twinkie. Unfortunately, the wings were overcooked and some were burnt, which took away from the meal. The highlight was definitely the Alabama white sauce , absolutely delicious and the best part of the dish. The Texas Twinkie was tasty, but I wish it had more brisket. It was very heavy on the cream cheese and light on the meat, which made it feel a bit unbalanced. Overall, great vibes, fun trivia night, and wonderful service, but the food was hit or miss. I'd come back for the atmosphere and give it another try.

    Fig & Pig pizza

Had lunch at Harry's BBQ on Saturday with friends, and the atmosphere was the biggest drawback. The music--loud rage-style--was overwhelming both indoors and outside. We asked several times for it to be turned down but were told the bartender controlled it, which made it hard to enjoy our meal or conversation. Food was mixed: the Fig & Pig pizza had a great crispy crust (could use more meat), but my husband's grilled chicken sandwich was pretty bland with no grill flavor. Service was efficient, but the vibe just wasn't for us. We'd consider coming back if the music/volume changes.

Second time I've been to the outdoor bar and I have to say it's my favorite in downtown New Bern. Love the greenery and the couches. The cocktails are delicious and change seasonally which I appreciate. Updating since I've ordered food. The ramen is delicious. The pickled egg and vinegar based slaw off set the richness of the broth. I also tried the beef sandwich and corn pudding which was incredible. The pickles taste homemade and the beef was tender. The corn pudding was like the best kind you get at Thanksgiving.

Cobb salad with no smoked turkey

I ordered a Cobb salad with no smoked turkey and a pulled pork sandwich with a side of pulse on baked beans. I plan to eat the salad today and save the other for lunch at work tomorrow. The salad was so disgusting. Some of the lettuce was mushy like it was rotten. avocados had already turned brown. Based off of how disgusting the salad was, I was scared to eat the other food and threw it all the way. $48 down the drain!

We came in late to eat tonight after a softball game and even though we came at 9:40 pm we were greeted with smiles and a warm welcome. We ordered the garlic Parmesan wings and their Thai chili wings both of which were out of this WORLD. Literally, the best wings in all of New Bern. But the pickled veggies that come with the wings... amazing!! It was cold tonight, so we ordered the ramen and I am here to tell say, don't sleep on this American fusion Ramen. It was amazing. The vibe and whole setting of this venue has always been one of my favorites in town as well.

This local spot was recommended, and I am happy I stopped in. They have indoor and outdoor seating with a great feel. There was music tonight, and it was just what I needed. The people were friendly, I had a great drink and an amazing fried artichoke appetizer. I selected the Windy City pizza. Flavorful with a great crust. I had a slice for lunch the next day, and it's still great. I have found another great restaurant in Historic downtown.

Inventive take on an Old Fashioned

Popped in here on an early Saturday evening and even though it was crowded we managed to get a seat at the bar outside. We had amazing service throughout our entire stay. They have some inventive cocktails that taste great. We had their Old Fashioned which also includes mezcal for some smokiness. The black walnut bitters which I don't usually prefer was actually the perfect addition to this cocktail, would order it again in a heartbeat. Last but not least, the pizza is worth a visit alone. We ordered the tomato pie (added meatballs) and the crust was perfectly charred in spots. I typically don't eat the pizza crust but we demolished this pizza, the toppings were fresh and delicious. The atmosphere outside was lively and there was even a musician setting up. Will likely pop in here next time we are in town, and will definitely be taking a pizza to go!

Pork Belly, sausage, pulled pork, corn pudding and braised greens along with milk bread

Vegetables were better than the bbq..Hated to write this review as I currently travel 45 minutes to get to good bbq. So, they are pushing the order yourself from a qr code that brings up a menu you chose from and then submit, place in your cart, then pay. Staff are a solid 4. Atmosphere is just an open room if inside and could get noisy if you have a fair amount of people. Now the food. Poutine was our extra, not starter or appetizer. It was a little salty for me but good flavor. I did not care for the slaw but my partner in food did. We ordered The 3 meat platter that came out kinda Luke warm. Started with the pork belly that was very tuff. Flavor of the meat was overpowered by the carolina gold sauce that's baked into it. Pulled pork was dry. I guess that's why they offer up the sauces. Should not need it. I also would say that you can taste fresh pulled pork and this had none of it. Again, lots of sauces to make up for it. Sausage was like store bought meats. I've found that real, homemade sausage is not as dense as store bought. This was very dense. Flavor was ok. Corn pudding was more like a corn casserole that was not fully baked. Corn pudding is more flour based and this was more corn mix. Kinda gritty but good flavor. Partner had the braised greens, collards. They were good to her. All in All, ok. Hope others have a better experience than us. Best of luck and thanks for having us.

We enjoyed the watermelon carpaccio, fried green tomatoes, garden risotto with added shrimp. Everything was very good. The tomato portion was enormous and the beer batter was crispy and light. The risotto? It wasn't really risotto, it was more like a creamy rice but it was delicious. And those shrimp were big, juicy and tasted like they just came out of the sea. The watermelon, though, was a shocker. It was grilled! It had a really great smoky flavor that was totally unexpected and the dressing was light and fresh. I tried to make reservation but the restaurant would not take a reservation for one so I went early. My options were the bar or in the dark tunnel. I chose the tunnel as I thought I was going to get a table not a high top there. Then where the menu was placed that would have me facing the back wall as the other seat was near the kitchen entrance. So I moved there but I still didn't have a view of the performers. So things didn't start well but I ordered the boba boat mocktail and the mac n cheese with short ribs. My waitress then informed me that they were out of the short rib and would brisket be ok. I hate brisket so I said no and she went and got me the menu to order something else. While I was looking at the menu with my phone flashlight (other tables had actual flashlights, they came prepared) as the tunnel was too dark to see without it, I was given mac n cheese with short rib according to the food runner. I questioned him as I had been told they were out but he went and checked and told me it was the last of the short rib. It was not short rib and someone lied. When the waitress returned, she thought it was burnt ends and checked with the kitchen and they told her brisket. Whatever the mystery meat was, it was not what I ordered. Did they think I wouldn't notice or know the meats are prepared differently. It is dark there so it is hard to know what you are eating. The mystery meat dish was taken back to the kitchen and I asked if they could prepare it with vegetables instead as mac n cheese seemed like the safest option on the menu with the mystery meats. I wish they just had what I originally ordered. The specialty made veggie dish was good but I expected more flavors with the cheese. It was kind of bland. I did try the dessert too. I got the strawberry lemonade cake. The strawberries were the best part as the cake was on the dry side. While eating this, the check was brought to the table. This is my biggest pet peeve to not wait until the guest is finished eating. The most frustrating part was that while they refused to increase the lighting when I arrived and asked as I couldn't read the menu. They immediately turned the lights up when another guest asked as I was finishing my dessert. The chef came to the table from the front dining area. It was my understanding that things were going to be made right. I didn't expect to be charged the full price for the dish without the premium meat. Then there was the service failure of bringing out a dish I hadn't ordered to begin with. The decor here is outstanding, with the copper ceilings and the speakeasy feel. The clock out front caught my attention too. They went all out with the details and elegance. So it is disappointing that the food and service is not up to the same standards.

Didn't happen to us, but when we arrived, there was indeed a train sitting there, and some cars in front, well, they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. Inside is all vibes, kind of set up like an old pharmacy, but slinging cocktails instead, and I have to say, the cocktails were very tasty and well priced. All the tables were full of friend and family groups playing board games and enjoying various flatbreads and libations. Seems like the kind of place the local neighborhoods enjoy and spend quite a bit of time at. At the moment, can't remember the names of the cocktails we got, its been a few months. But I do remember the toasts. This place doesnt have a kitchen in a traditional sense, more like a prep area where they bring ingredients together (that I imagine are made off site) and toast it up to present you with some pretty unique combos and flavors. Honestly, a great way around some of the health code restrictions that start to apply to more in-depth operations while still having a robust menu. We ordered a variety for the 4 of us, as this was dinner that evening. Gettin Figgy with it was a favorite, as were the Pig and the Goat, and the Reuben. Their version of a Cubano was alright, but as could be the case you'd imagine, the pork was a little dry. The caprese was the only one we got that seemed to be a universal thumbs down, the avocado spread wasn't working with the other ingredients. Definitely would come back for some of these toasts, and drinks!

The oysters were steamed to perfection, the clams were not dried out, the shrimp was perfectly seasoned with Old Bay and red onions and the crab legs were not dried out. What I am trying to say is, the seafood was fresh and not pre-cooked. It was cook to order. Our waiter was awesome. Even though the restaurant was packed full, he paid attention to our needs. Our glasses never got empty. He kept our table cleared by replacing the shell bucket without asking. We really appreciate the customer service. There was a nice breeze off the Neuse, even though it's 86° right now you don't know that because they have these nice shades and there's a nice breeze coming off the water. So what I didn't like first: I feel the menu was really limited, I can get around that, but the red flag right off the bat was their fish tacos and their fish and chips are made with "white fish" I figured they it was gonna be tilapia or something equally horrible. When I asked the what fish it was he said it was Pangasius, which the waiter described as similar to flounder and I also overheard another waiter. Say the same thing to somebody sitting near me so that's the spiel they're told to tell people who ask what kind of fish. I suggest that you look it up. It's Farm raised and not in very clean environment usually... I never eat tilapia and this is actually one rung below tilapia. I wasn't going to get fish. I ended up getting a burger which I normally don't get at a restaurant, but I ordered my burger, medium rare and the waiter said, "We don't do that. We either do pink or not pink." They tried to tell me it was a health department regulation. Nope! Other than fast food like McDonald's and Wendy's and such I've never been to a restaurant especially a supposedly fine dining restaurant where you couldn't order your burger, medium, well medium, medium-rare or rare. I said, try to make it less than just pink please. Then when I cut into my burger. It was well done. Maybe the exact center was slightly pink, but that was just one bite worth. I'm very disappointed, but I have to tell you I would be back just to be able to have the same glass of wine. It was a white wine, a dry white wine from Spain and the appetizer of brussels sprouts while sitting out on the patio, it was a nice experience for that but not for a meal.
