Follow up!!!! So I had posted this review once and got an email from Yelp that they were removing it with no explanation as to why other than to say it appeared I was never at that establishment. Let me be very clear. I've been to this restaurant three or four times and none of them were exceptional. Most were OK. But the visit in question was quite bad and exactly as I had previously described. So I'm simply going to repost that same review here because it was very accurate to my experience and if anyone challenges as to whether or not, I was actually there I still have the receipt because it was a business trip and I can verify it Came by kind of late on a Tuesday. So had a very limited selection for menu options. Ok I get that. So - Fried anything or nachos that was it. Ordered a Mich. Ultra - never said bottle or draft. Didn't care. She gave me a bottle. The beer was Luke warm at best. So then I chose the Nachos. OMG. What is that stuff they call cheese!?!?!!! It was the texture of hummus and the color of a banana milk shake. Bad taste - very bad - and worse texture and smelled awful.. Nachos were NOT good not even a little bit!!! So then I asked about the warm beer. No apologies or effort to resolve it. Just a - "would you like another one?'" I asked - if it could be cold I would. She said you wanna try a draft instead!? So I said again - as long as it's cold - OK. It was warmer than the first one. WOW. So disappointed. Service was not great. But it was late. I hardly touched the Nachos. No questions - like were the nachos ok!? Or Would you like a to-go box. No concern as to why I didn't eat them. Just pulled them away and threw them away. But my bill was full charge. 2 beers and the nachos. I had about 4 chips and about 3/4 of one beer!!! I couldn't get out of that place fast enough. They were more interested in their crowd of friends who were gathered in a corner table and their plans to go out after that place closed. I did not have a good experience at Blackbeard's. From the very beginning, the service was pretty terrible. I ordered a sweet tea with lemon, and she came back with no lemon, saying, "Sorry they're not cut yet." Well, maybe you should cut one. The food took at least 30 minutes to arrive. Keep in mind, the restaurant was empty. She did apologize for the wait saying there was only one cook, so this doesn't factor into my poor rating. I ordered mango shrimp tacos. The description said "crispy grilled shrimp," but the shrimp was refrigerator cold. The tacos really just consisted of cabbage, cold shrimp (not crispy or seasoned), and mango salsa. I will say the fries were good, though. Also, the "bar" is a fish tank with live fish in it, and it's filled with algae. That did NOT help my experience. And, our waitress was helping in the kitchen WITH three-inch long nails which is a food safety violation. Even if she did glove up, those things would pop the glove real quick. Overall, this might be a great spot for a beer--if you can overlook the algae-filled fish tank you'll be staring at--but don't come here if you want to enjoy your food. read more

I stopped in for their weekend breakfast shortly after they opened at 8 am. I had the breakfast burrito with chorizo. The burrito was flavorful but on the oily side from the chorizo. Service was attentive and my breakfast was prepared promptly. Seems like a popular option with quite a few tables filled. It has a laid back vibe with TV's showing differing sports channels. I'll definitely be back to see one of the live bands they host on Friday and Saturday nights. read more

We went here for dinner and started in the bar area, where the fish tanks are built into the bar top. The bartender asked if we wanted drinks, and my wife ordered a Tanqueray and tonic. Unfortunately, the bartender did not seem to know what Tanqueray was, and we were also charged an extra dollar for the tonic. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the two-pound "Build Your Own Boil," which the menu describes as including choices such as snow crab, shrimp, oysters, mussels, little neck clams, and crawfish, finished with sauce, corn, and seasoned potatoes. We chose mussels, crawfish, and snow crab, expecting the two-pound boil as listed, but we were charged for a pound of each item instead. That was frustrating and not what we understood from the menu description. Overall, the experience was disappointing. Between the drink issue, the average food, and the confusion over the seafood boil pricing, I would not be in a hurry to return. read more

Absolutely awful... 10$ for mac and cheese bites and it's barely anything in a big ass bowl. 6$ for a cheap ass mimosa in a CHAMPAGNE GLASS. Didn't have Philly steak and told me 10 full minutes after I ordered then waited in my face while I tried to figure out what else I wanted. Got a mushroom burger that was 1 way too big 2 tasted like absolutely nothing. Also asked for grilled onions which they grilled them but also gave me raw onions too ??? Food- Shrimp mango tacos - first came out without the mango salsa, sent back. Came out with salsa but bit into and shells were left on the shrimp and some shrimp were raw. No slaw just lettuce. Fried shrimp basket - Shrimp was good but I got 6 shrimp, a mound of French fries and they totally forgot the coleslaw. Fish tacos - small pieces of fish maybe torn apart 1 piece and made 3 bite size tacos. Did not care for the sweet sauce. Small portion . Hamburger was good. This place deserves 0 stars. By far my worst experience ever! I went with 2 friends and it took 30 minutes for drinks and about 2 hours for food. I ordered the shrimp po boy and fried pickles. The po boy was okay at best. Just shrimp and "coleslaw" I actually didn't see any coleslaw at all. The fried pickles are listed under starter on the menu however that came out 5-10 minutes before I was leaving. Tables around us had got their food well before us, however we were seated at least 25-30 minutes before them. I hate to say this but I'm sure the owner or maybe just the employees do not like people of color in this establishment. Our waiter ignored us multiple times but ran to other tables, she also had an attitude because we asked how much longer would it be after waiting 2 hours. This was absolutely worst experience I am not even 100% sure where to start. So here it goes, 1. The waitress was new so I get she was learning however she took our order and then walked off. Nobody was confident that she understood what she was doing. She came back 30 minutes later she came back and had to retake our order. 2. It then took over 90 minutes to receive any food. We even had appetizers. I would get it if it was a packed Friday night however it was a Monday. 3. We ordered oysters that had obviously been sitting out for far too long. When the plate was brought out the ice they had originally been sitting on was all melted. One oyster was eaten and it wasn't right! 4. The party of 6 we were in half of the orders came out with something wrong or missing. It was 4 adults and 2 kids. Literally nothing crazy. 5. Every time we wanted/needed a refill we had to go to the bar to get our own refills. 6. The very last she dropped a plate on my niece. It ended up on the floor and shattered. We made a reservation through their website and received a confirmation email. Upon arrival there were no tables available and a sign said to seat yourself, so we asked the bartender for help. She told us that she had no record of our reservation, despite my showing her the confirmation email. She didn't offer to help in any way, and seemed bothered by us even asking about a table. I'm really glad that Blackbeards is a "triple play" because the first third was way too loud music and the second third was tuned into a sports game but the third third was a decently not-too-loud restaurant. My friend and I sat at the bar. Get the "Stuffed Double Cheese Burger" and you'll be truly stuffed. Two patties stuffed with cheddar cheese and then topped with more cheddar cheese. It's as tall as a seven layer cake and you'll be challenged getting it into your mouth even if you could unhinge your jaw. I took two bites off the edge for the spirit of it. The rest was a knife and fork deal. Tasty, juicy, melty. My friend had it with the fries and they did look great. My cole slaw was also good. Keto is a thing, man. We've been here in the past and we weren't disappointed but today was another story. The food was just not good. Almost everything came out cold, the fries tasted like crispy grease. They brought my grams her pot roast on a bed of rice and when we asked why, they said they were out of potatoes and just swapped it. My aunt ordered a soup with a tomato base but what she received wasn't even close. The Philly was cold as well. Just super disappointed. The gator bites were very rubbery and the breading very grainy. I will say that our waitress Emma was great and stayed calm throughout. I can't see us coming back after this. We used to visit New Bern regularly while we still lived in Florida, and Blackbeards was always on our itinerary during our stay. Now we live in New Bern, and of course we still visit frequently. Whether you stop in for lunch, dinner, or even the weekend night life, it's always a good time. The staff is always friendly. They have an amazing menu to choose from, my personal favorite however is the Smokehouse Burger, with homemade chips and ranch dressing, which is so good I've considered drinking it. Fridays and Saturdays they usually have a live band on the back deck, inside they'll have a dj for 30 seconds rock, and later in the night many patrons will hop up to dance on the floor. They have a well stocked bar, with plenty of drinks to choose from, including locally brewed spirits and beers. Overall great place to bring the family, or party the night away. read more

We stopped in for dinner on a Friday evening with 4 adults and 3 small kids. They had NO problem accommodating our group and our waiter was outstanding! He was very patient with the kids. We started with the garlic cheese curds which were so good we placed a second order. The wings were huge, saucy, and cooked perfectly. One of our dinners came out wrong and our waiter was super apologetic and had it replaced immediately. When I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and the place was nearly empty, that should have been a warning. I'll cut to the chase. Asked for a bourbon old fashioned with Jim Beam. They don't have it, so the bartender pointed to their "only bourbons". I chose Buffalo Trace, which was the least expensive (typically) of the selection they offered. Not until the bill came did I learn it was a $20 drink! Only after I expressed shock at the bill did she tell me they had other "rail bourbon". Congratulations, you just served me the most expensive old fashioned I've ever had, and I've had them up and down the east coast, from Boston to Miami. It wasn't even a true old fashioned with the dark cherry. Ridiculous. But that wasn't the only disappointment. I ordered ribs and they came out cold. The baked potato was undercooked. All 3 entries were well over seasoned. It could be an off night it happens, but the tables were not cleaned, they were out of a lot on the menu, and slow. Had lunch on a weekday during a stay in New Bern. All of the entrees came out as ordered. Our server did a great job. Pub food is the norm as it does have a pub/bar atmosphere. My wife had one of the the Salads( it was huge) and I had the Chicken Jam sandwich( bacon jam! Yummy!). I heard also from my companions that that the burgers and flatbreads right down to the kids grilled cheese were tasty as well. read more

This was the third bad we went to on Saturday night that actually wanted to serve us, the others didn't. Drinks were well priced with a food beer selection. They had a free bingo game going that most people were playing. Songs would randomly play for a short period of time, usually around 45 seconds and people could fill in their bingo cards. Though we weren't playing bingo it turned into a fun drinking game for who could get thr song in our group. The songs were from all genres ranging from 1960's to present day. We left around 11pm and it turned into a nightclub. Will definitely go back. read more
