I have never seen such a huge Michael's store. This place had tons of merchandise. I went in looking for my Lemax Christmas Grandma village piece. Unfortunately, they did not have it. But, if you need Christmas decorations, this store is overflowing with beautiful decorations. I fell in love with their nutcracker collection. When, I picked up each piece there was damage on the arms or face, so I didn't buy any nutcrackers. I did leave with a snowman door sign. The prices were a good value. Several people working there asked me if I needed help. That was excellent service. I will definitely go back when I am visiting the grandchildren. read more

I recently had medals and ribbons from my military service mounted in a shadow box and paid $100 for the mounting service. Being a military display, alignment and precision in the mounting are essential to the display. Several items were not aligned and we could visibly see they were not square. The manager from the onset was very defensive and kept repeating over and over that (she) "did not see it". I demonstrated several times with a square and straight edge that the wings, ribbons etc. were not square and she continued to say she didn't see it. After going around and around with her for quite a while she said that she would take it back and call me when it was completed. I have no faith that this will be corrected properly. read more

I needed a canvas and a few random art supplies for a project I've been inspired to create and decided to run into Michaels. I was honestly pleasantly surprised upon walking through the doors because this was by far the brightest, largest and most clean and organized Michaels I've ever stepped foot in! I was also greeted the minute I walked in the doors and offered help along my walk through the store. I found exactly what I needed in addition to a few other items I didn't know I needed solely based upon their displays. Checkout was smooth and the cashier also helped me with finding a 20% off coupon. They destroyed an important, one-of-a-kind photograph I wanted framed, which they admitted was their "mistake". The only other thing they said was that it was not intentional, as if that excused their negligence and incompetence. You cannot trust these people to exercise due care in handling your pictures. I love this Michaels! Their customer service, in particular, has always been super helpful, even when it is during busy times. Recently (admittedly), I brushed by a setup they had in the middle of their store floor, and the next thing I heard was a loud crash!! I freaked out because 1) the noise echoed throughout the store, and 2) everyone stopped in their tracks to see what that was about. Why yes, it indeed was me who caused that. An employee came running over to me, and I apologized so many times. He said that he was honestly just concerned that I may have gotten hurt (no not physically, but my pride was!) I excessively offered to help, but the employees insisted that they got it covered. It's the little things like this that keep me coming back. Not to mention the great deals they have on their stuff. Looks like this location is known to have terrible customer service. I walked in, during a weekday afternoon to purchase holiday decor. They had a line and there were a good amount of people (the sales were great!) I'm going thru the wreath area, and I see a lady come up behind me with a Christmas tree box. She basically stands there, until I decide to move my cart out of the way. Okay, whatever, no big deal. Then, I was looking at the florals and I get hit by a cart! I guess she couldn't see over it. So I look over and she says "can you move over so I don't hit you again?" Finally, it's time to get in line. I have a ton of stuff in my cart. The lady that checks me out, I could tell, has zero interest of being at work. Zero. She looked annoyed and bothered. Tip: If a crowd really bothers you, you shouldn't be working in a holiday store during the holidays! Anyways, I ignore her. I hand her a wreath and she asks if I want a bag for my items. Again, my cart is filled. I say yes. While she's ringing up, the manager comes to the other registry and mutters something to the computer like "hurry up and work." My lady goes "come on now, you really think that's going to happen?" The manager says "I need it too so I can go do my job." Then, she's looking for a scanner and the register lady stops what she's doing to help her out. Has anyone heard of customer service here?! When she hands me my last bag, I'm like "thank you" and I get an "uh huh" in return. I put in my credit card, and she's tapping her fingers. Like the tapping where you're like hurry up. HAHAHA. When I grab my receipt, she doesn't say a word, just hands it to me and says "next in line." This staff is truly unbelievable. No care in the world for their customers. read more

So I've taken some art classes in school before and personally love this kind of art and craft stores and products available for sale. It is nice to see things in right places together and staff are able to figure out where things are or at Least try to answer your inquiries regarding certain products. This location is in the shopping center with whole food and etc, parking can be a pain in the butt during the day but still not as bad. We were there to purchase a few items for Halloween again and was disappointed we couldn't use the coupons from website but cashier still tried to scan the coupons and was able to get some what of a discount and made us happy. read more

OMG they have the worst return policy.. In addition to dealing with obnoxious clerks in store, I was asked to look for receipts and tags and deal with a crappy attitude for a $27 return. I like to do DIY projects and Michaels is my go to store for various DIY items. The prices are reasonable and sometimes they have great sales. If you download the app and get coupons, you can save money for sure. Each time I have been to Michaels I use my coupons and save money. This past Memorial Day weekend they had great sale on artificial plants, flowers, and storage boxes. The 2 problems this store has is lack of associates working in aisles for help and long lines with 2 cash registers open. The nasty woman who works there will make you wait and wait and wait while she dawdles with just one customer and the "trainee" who must have been brain dead. Unless you like to wait, do yourself a big favor and get all of your framing needs on Amazon with Prime delivery. It will be cheaper and faster than waiting for their store clown to actually take a minute to help you. I will never shop in that store again. Michaels can very easily be either Heaven or Hell -- perhaps even both in any given visit -- to those inclined towards the crafting arts. As you already probably know, it's a mecca of crafting supplies, there are items related to literally every kind of arts & craft. Jewelry making? Here's an entire aisle of beads. Scrapbooking? Here are TWO aisles for you. Woodworking? Metalcrafting? Bow-tying? Floral arranging? Of course there's something for you as well. And that's in addition to all the "normal" stuff like, y'know, painting, and stuff. But in all the majesty of literally having something for everyone, there comes a point where the casual crafter, like yours truly, can get a little lost. And by a little, I mean, well, a lot. Every Michaels store that I have ever been to is literally bursting at the seams with aisles, both permanent and makeshift. Navigating through Michaels is like going on an expedition. You make your way through front of the store, stocked up with all things holiday-related, only to find that MORE holiday-related stuff is stuffed into bins between each aisle. You take a turn at the posterboard aisle in search of the wall of glue guns that the Michaels employee pointed you toward, only to end up in another, DIFFERENT, aisle full of posterboard. It's like the Bermuda Triangle of shopping trips. In an effort to pick up supplies for my bangin' HallowMEME costume (worn last night, proof is in the profile pic thankyouverymuch), I ventured into Michaels in search of some foam core board, a dowel, some paint, and a glue gun. 4 items. That's it. About 45 minutes later, I'd finally found all the pieces... and not without a lot of effort. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that crafters have a haven wherein to find even the most elusive of items. But for those of us less well-versed in Michaels topography, it can be a bit of a challenge -- AND a timesuck. read more

I've never been happy about Michael's and I really avoid it at all costs because they never have enough staff, and children are always running around screaming with no parents in sight and no employee intervention. Anyway, I had to go the Reston store today to price out custom framing for work. The sales associate was all nice and cheerful at first! However, when I saw the price for a simple shadow box framing job, which was nearly $1000 (down to $500 with their so-called "50% discount") I explained that I wanted to get a few more quotes. He IMMEDIATELY caught an attitude, rudely asks for my information so he can print out my quote, throws the paper at me and says "there you go"! He proceeds to turn around and storm into the back without saying thank you or anything. I stood there in complete confusion because I could not understand why he would be so angry with me. This is really bad customer service which made me decide right then and there to take my business elsewhere. By the way, got a quote from a local mom & pop shop for the same framing for $400, so I will be going with them. read more

Its been a few years since my past review so I thought Id write an update. This place has taken on the Barnes & Nobles approach- "we dont just sell one thing anymore, we sell everything and do what we have to do to stay in business!" They have toys, they have candy, tons of seasonal decor (they've upped their game lately and it rocks), they have chocolate, rock water fountains... They also have children's books, stuffed animals, craft storage, and now, even a women-oriented hardware tool section! (I got a very feminine heavy duty pink tool box here that I LOVE). During holiday season on weekends, do be prepared for outrageous lines. If you don't come here with a coupon from their email or mobile app, shame on you, because my inbox literally blows up with discounts every other day along with their "Doorbusters" specials. Where else can you come for a beautifully, patterned storage box for $3? As for finding craft supplies Michaels is the best. They also have a whole section with fake plants, foliage and succulents which can be fun. For general fine art supplies, especially canvases, they are a good place to come. However, for paints and paint brushes, I wouldnt say they have much in the way of selection for more advanced or professional oil painters but for a beginner/novice this place is still A-Ok. This Michaels is a pain to get into, due the design of the parking lot and overall design of the strip mall. However, once you are in the store. You will find all the hard to find items you can't seem to find at the more popular locations. That being said, that's why I visit here more often than the one that's closer to my home. I like this store. It seems to be run more efficiently than the Springfield one, so I will often come here on a lunch break vs. waiting to go to the one closer to me after work. They have anything you could ever need, lots of stuff you don't need, and just about everything in between. The staff is friendly, I am often greeted while perusing the aisles (which actually caught me off guard the first couple of times as this is unheard of at the Springfield location), and the cashiers are pretty quick. Extremely cocky and rude middle aged woman in custom Framing. Has somewhat of a drill sergeant type of style. After receiving an email saying all three pieces were ready, AND calling the store to confirm, on the day I arrived I was immedIately told that I had showed up too early since didn't I literally JUST submit the online framing order?! I said, no, I had submitted an in person framing order several weeks ago and had received a email and follow up call to confirm the pieces were ready. Once she was satisfied with that, then the next hurdle was apparently telling her my own last name. My last name is Joyce - she had to have me reconfirm that four times because she was convinced that I was giving her my first name. After all that, she brought two pieces out, not three, and after spending another 15 minutes sorting around in the back (no communication back to me) she admitted that the third piece was broken and she needed twenty minutes to fix it. Ummmmm, I just paid $300 for a busted frame to be glued back together? Never again! read more

I'm rating this 5 stars in comparison to the other Michaels in the area. I ended up making some arts and crafts as holiday gifts this past season and went to the Michaels in Vienna. It was pretty much a grimy dump. The people were unfriendly and it seemed like there was no logic to the organization of the products. Thus, it was quite difficult to find what I needed since no employee were really there to help me! I ended up roaming the aisles for 15 minutes until I found what I needed, but I was frustrated and felt like I had to disinfect after finally getting out of there. So then I was just driving the other day on Dulles Toll Road and saw a Michaels off to the side. I decided to go find it and this one in Reston is amazing! Friendlier people, many more products, and a newer, cleaner, more pleasant atmosphere. You actually feel like you can roam around the store for fun, as opposed to a quick run-in to grab what you want. read more

We gave a set of three tribal artworks which would have formed a triptych. Instead of framing them in identical size frames, they framed 2 in the same size and the third one a inch shorter! When we asked why it was done like that, the Manager firmly said that he cannot do anything as we did not instruct them that they should be made equal!! Needless to say, we are never going to return this utterly mismanaged place who do not even know the basics of their art. read more

I needed to have to pictures framed and there were so many choices it was overwhelming. Celine took a lot of time to help me select matting and frames that really made the pictures look great. When I picked up the pictures the other members were also really nice and the framing was done the day before they said it would be finished. I was impressed. read more

I will say that I frequent the acrylic paint aisle and they are almost always out of the exact things I need. Also, their brushes aren't great. We had a great experience with their framing department. The person who helped us pick out the frame, matte and glass was also the person who created the finished product. She told us it would take about a week, but called after 4 days to say the frame was ready. The quality was as cose to perfect as we could expect and the person we worked with was friendly and helpful. We had been somewhat reluctant to use Michaels because the advice we found on the Web urged us to look for a local framing shop that did their own work and Michaels is a chain. We tried it anyway and were told they manufactured the frames on-site. Their cost was also less than a "local" frame shop that we found sent out their framing jobs. read more

I love Michaels, but the customer service at this store is terrible! I have shopped here on only two occasions and have awful experiences with the employees. The first I was trying to do a no receipt return to get store credit (I lost the receipt) and I was given exceptional attitude from the cashier. The second I was just stopping in the grab one item and was immediately rushed out by an employee who said they were closing and I needed to hurry. (Even though there was still a large line up front at the registers.) Speaking as someone who is a manager of a large retail store in the area, if my team were to act this way to guests, I would be appalled. When I need to restock on my art supplies in the future, you can be assured that I will take my business to any of the other stores in the area! read more

Wow! Ultimate crappy service from manager at this location. I entered the store at approximately 4:15 and went to the custom framing department to pickup my purchase that was shipped to store. Associate looked under counter for purchase and when he couldn't find it, phoned to front desk for manager on duty- Taylor. She told him she was on a register and was busy. He explained he had a customer waiting for a purchase that was shipped to store and she hung up. I watched her on the regster for 15 minutes before she sent another associate to check on me. I explained- AGAIN- that I was waiting for an order shipped to the store. The associate tried to help me(just like the first person) and was on the walkie talkie with Taylor and she did nothing to help. The asscoiate looked in the back for over 5 minutes and asked Taylor to come assist her. Order could not be found. I asked to speak to the manager and asscoiate tried to resolve the issue by asking about getting me the items off the shelf and offering the same price as online price. Manager told her no and offered no other solutions. The associate had to ask the manger (Taylor) 4 times to come out and speak to me as I requested. After over 30 minutes in store I still did not have my order and Taylor still had not showed up to speak to me in person. The asscoaite asked once more and stated- "Please, Taylor, come out here and speak to the customer." After another 2-3 minutes Talyor finally showed up (reeking of cigarette smoke) and I asked if I coud just take the items from the shelf and when the store found the order they could restock the shelf with my products. After showing her exactly what I wanted she just shrigged and said- "I guess so." WOW- sure won't be ordering online and expecting customer service from this location's manager. read more
