I've been to Michaels on several occasions (mainly to have pictures framed) and have had good experiences. I have found the staff to be polite and knowledgeable and skilled with regards to framing pictures. I like that picture-framing customers are told to let them know about any problem with the framing work and staff will try to fix the problem. read more

This review is only for the staff at the register that assisted me with the UPS Access. I didn't shop at Michael's during this visit. However, I did walk around the store and saw they are similar to the other Michaels stores...clean, smelled nice, always neatly organized, and fully stocked. As a UPS drop off point this store is a train wreck. Just know that packages aren't picked up until the end of the following day, guaranteeing that your package will be delivered at least one day later than you are told when you drop it off. The person I dropped it off with was nice, but when I called concerned that my package hadn't been shipped 24 hours later I got all kinds of crap from the employee over the phone. To say she was rude would be an understatement. She was belligerent and confrontational. DO NOT SHIP through this store. It was a waste of a trip and a nightmare afterward. If I'd known about the two day delay in pickup I would have waited and gone to a UPS store or - better still! mailed it through the USPS. Based on my treatment over the phone I will not shop this store in person ever again. After writing this I looked through past reviews. There seems to be a theme over more than 6 years - most of the employees are rude. I'm a serious crafter and have shopped there often. I order online and pick up so I don't normally have to interact with the staff. I guess that would be my recommendation to others based upon the consistently bad reviews of staff. I give a rating of 1 because it seems to be more of a toy store than a sewing store. I have been to both the Rockaway location and the Cedar Knolls store and both are a disappointment since neither one has the pattern books such as Vogue, McCall's or simplicity. On the Michael's website they say they sell patterns, but when you visit the store, all they have is a few patterns hanging on the wall for children's clothes only. If you inquire, they advise you to order patterns online. I prefer to buy sewing patterns in a store where I can get a better look at it and even read the instruction sheet to see if its what I am looking for. If I like what I see, I can buy the fabric there as well. There still are serious and experienced sewers, but Michael's doesn't recognize us and caters to all sorts of whatnot other than serious sewing. read more

This review is for this location serving as a UPS Access Point. I have dealt with access points before You drop the package off in the morning. In the evening it gets picked up. Well not at this location. After 2 days of it not going out, I stopped by and the package was still there. I took the package back, dropped it off at Staples and it was picked up the same day. Located across from the Rockaway Mall is this large Michaels location. Its a typical Michaels and carries all of the expected things in large numbers, so I would be surprised if you don't find what you are looking for. As usual, it looks a little busy and confusing, but once you know your way around you will be fine. Easy parking. 3 stars as I default all chains to 3. Went to the Rockaway, New Jersey, store last night to pick up some Christmas things (Dec. 2023). I had a cart full. Got to the checkout and one cashier, with about five self-checkout. The cashier told me to do self-checkout. I told him I did not want to do self-checkout with a full cart of items. He ignored me. A line was starting to form. Someone, probably the manager, yelled that there are self-checkout registers. I said I did not want to do self-checkout. Waited, then asked the cashier if someone was going to check me out. He told me that, unfortunately, you have to do self-checkout. I left the cart full of merchandise right there and walked out. Self-checkout should be an option, not mandated. I'm a paying customer; why should I have to do their job and check myself out? Will never shop another Michaels. The formed line, they didn't look happy to have to do self-checkout either. read more

Went to Michaels to get two photos framed. Stood at the framing counter for ten minutes while 3 employees stood around laughing and joking with another customer. Not one if the employees acknowledged that they even saw stand there only five feet away. I felt they were very rude and getting a pay check for doing nothing. read more

NO one available to help.... NOT enough help because the too few employees they do have are too busy stocking shelves and treat customers like pests. Annoyed and only help if you chase after them while they're on to their next in store assignment. After today... I AM DONE!!! No more shopping.... or should I say TRYING to shop... at a store where: 1. Not enough help. 2. Workers are rude and impatient 3. 20 minutes on check out line. ( one register open) 4. PRICEY! Not bad... This is a typical Michaels, nothing particularly special going on here. It's relatively well-organized and maintained and staffed with an appropriate number of employees. I like the way the check out is laid out - everyone waits in one line and when a cashier opens up, the lines moves forward. I prefer this to trying to decide which line to stand in and getting frustrated when the person in front of me holds up the line with questions about coupons and whatnot. Since it's right next to Christmas Tree Shops, sometimes I like to compare prices on things available in both stores, like glass vases, seasonal items, etc. It's pretty convenient and a nice set up for frugal penny-pinching freaks like me. read more

We just left this Michaels location and our cashier Lindsay was an absolute delight! She was SO friendly and cooperative with our large, split up, coupon filled order for our wedding necessities. She was also very knowledgeable and quick which made the whole process a breeze. And before we even began, she called to get extra help so no other customers had to wait because of us. A lot of cashiers would have never been that happily cooperative with us. She is definitely an employee to be proud of! read more

The employees have to put their change from a blue bag into the register which takes tim and hold up the line. The managers can very condensing and rude. Micheals never opens at 9 or 10 am on the dot, but a couple of minutes late because of show time. Employees have to fill out stupid sheets that outline their duties (because corporate apparently thinks we're 5.) always understaffed and some of the employees can't help you because they're either new or trying to help other customers who were first. I love this Michaels, I am a crafter and I am there frequently and almost always find what I need. The employees are helpful especially Sharon, she is always friendly and quick to help me find what I need, even when the store is busy and she is running to help the girls at checkout and supervising the store.
