I always enjoy a visit to a Michaels store whenever I get a chance. This place is a long distance from where I live, but Joe and I happened to be in the neighborhood. We were specifically looking for a couple of inexpensive frames for some colorful "Nightmare Before Christmas" posters that we purchased for Joe's daughter as a Christmas gift. Not surprisingly, they had a large selection to choose from. And luckily for us, the frames we wanted happened to be on sale as "buy one and get the second one half off". (Or so we thought). Then, we found out at the register, the sale had ended the day before, but the sale signs had not been removed. We almost had to pay full price, until we questioned a staff member, and she graciously honored the sale due to the store's mistake. I found this Michaels to be pretty well organized and fully stocked with everything one could possibly imagine to help the craft oriented person. You'll find candle making, soap making, painting supplies, wood working, artificial flower arrangements, jewelry creations, candy & cake decorating, wedding stuff, crocheting & knitting, and lots of household & seasonal decorations. You can design, cut, glue, stitch, or paint anything your imagination can come up with. You just never know, a masterpiece may have originated from a Michaels!

This has always been my favorite location but recently they have taken out almost all the registers and replaced them with self checkouts. There are only two employee operating registers. I went in today to do an online order pickup, when I grabbed my order there was only one item out of the four that I ordered, the note says other items couldn't be found. I went to look for a substitute for the items I online ordered and found the exact items so I'm unsure how that happened. I had to wait in line to return the online order item and rebuy it with my other three items so I could get the buy one get one 50 percent off, manager said there was no other way. Since I had a return I couldn't use self checkout and the 6 people ahead of me all refused to use self checkout for various reasons as well. Not a great experience.

    one cashier per usual

Always understaffed... The workers are always overwhelmed running around you could never find someone I'm in a line of 10 people right now and there's only one cashier you guys can do better.. not to mention there's no more 40% off coupons I mean come on guys

Karie is extremely friendly and has always worked with me until the design is perfect - very very patient "on the counter," as they say in their biz.

Adj: Treasure Trove of Yummylicious Yarn and More!…read more Another incredibly special and quite exclusive store in Sacramento that I somehow have only visited once or twice long ago, and which I've not really appreciate until now. I'm so glad that I have finally paid a meaningful visit to Rumpelstiltskin Yarn Store recently. Rumpelstiltskin, located on the R St corridor, is quite a long-standing establishment in Sacramento that has been providing the Sacramento fiber art community with supplies and knowledge for over 50 years! Rumpelstiltskin sells a wide selection of high-quality yarns, fiber art tools, and other supplies for crocheting, knitting, spinning, and weaving, so there's definitely a great variety of products offered here for various interests. Perhaps because the skill level of my two fiber art hobbies, crocheting and knitting, are quite elementary and have not improved much over the years, I've so far had all my yarn needs met at the more conventional arts and crafts stores of the big box variety. But as I am getting more serious about my yarn hobbies, I'm now interested in finding stores that offer more specialized products and even provide classes that will help me improve in my crafts skills. I am also looking to connect more with the fiber art community in Sacramento because my venture into joining that community so far has shown me how warm and welcoming fiber artists are and it is totally possible to learn from seasoned hobbyists and pros/teachers if one puts their mind to it. I've even connected with some very local yarn enthusiasts at my local library and I'm sure they all have visited Rumpelstiltskin. On this visit, I saw lots of exclusive brands and types of yarn made of much better material than I'm used to using. From basic wool to more specialized Merino, Alpaca, and Shetland, there were many different kinds available. One I particular liked was the cashmere wool which felt heavenly. I learned that Rumpelstiltskin makes it a point to partner with fiber farms and other small boutique fiber suppliers to source yarn and other fiber products that are not only exclusive, but that are truly local and US-made as much as possible. Rumpelstiltskin even shares the stories behind each brand they carry and even hosts "Farm to Needle" events to introduce some of their thoughtfully curated products that are specially selected for their quality and uniqueness. As such I noticed that the prices of their products are definitely several times higher than that of regular arts and crafts stores, but again Rumpelstiltskin sells really high-quality yarns and supplies. I did not have any questions for staff during my visit, but I saw a class taking place and noticed that besides the looks of concentration, it was smiles all around as everyone was really enjoying their class, so I'm also going to look into taking a class or joining in one of Rumpelstiltskin's events. Just from a quick glance at their website, I see offerings of beginner's knitting classes for adults and kids, an embroidery intro class, a felted slippers class which sounds super interesting and practical, a sweater class for those who are ready for bigger projects, and even basket coiling, spindle spinning, spinning wheel, and weaving classes. Besides the classes that have costs associated and private lessons for those who want 1:1 instruction, there are also monthly and periodic free knitting circles for kids and social stitch events. I did not interact with staff today, so I can't speak on customer service, but maybe on a future shopping trip, I'll hopefully be helped if needed. In short, Rumpelstiltskin really is a wonderful staple in the Sacramento community for fiber art beginners, hobbyists, and pro-level enthusiasts alike and I'm so glad I know more about Rumpelstiltskin now so I can feel comfortable to come back for higher-quality yarn and supplies for more serious projects as well as for classes and events to connect with our local fiber art community.

Phenomenal service. The staff today put a lot of effort in finding a gift card that my email…read moreaccidentally deleted. On top of that, I've been coming here for years and been met with nothing but experienced, thoughtful interactions that help me to complete my projects! Independent yarn stores are a dying breed. I urge you to support your local economy and put your money in the pockets of REAL people, not Joann, not Michael. Rumpel FTW

"I'll just go grab a book from the car," he said, after I'd been in the store for 5 seconds. He saw me greedily eyeing racks and racks of yarn and pattern books. Bruce Edwards, a co-owner, was very helpful. Bruce shared the news on which Noro yarns are increasing in price (Kureyon and Silk Garden). I had been wanting to buy a lot of Kureyon to make Amy Swenson's Rosedale United crewneck sweater that you can find for free on Knitty.com and the popular Cornelia Tuttle's v-neck sweater in Silk Garden blues-n-greens found in her 2nd book for Noro. This was the first time I'd seen enough of Noro Silk Garden colorway #8 (the blues-n-greens one) in one dye lot and in one store to merit purchasing the lot. I guesstimated the yarn. Bruce murmured approval, cooed over my bamboo yarn wrap jacket project for a friend and offered advice on blocking a cashmere silk tank top that I was edging in crochet based on an Interweave Knits pattern I'd reworked in a smaller size than in the instructions. I do so love it when experienced knitters pet my knitter's ego! This is a well-stocked yarn store. He explained that while most yarn stores have all their stock out, they just keep a bare modicum to indicate what they have and he stores the rest in the basement below the store. There are about 4 rooms of yarn on display. I picked up an old issue of Schoeller/Stahl that had 2 patterns for wrap sweaters in bulky weight yarns (yes me and my friends have this thing about wrapping ourselves instead of buttoning ourselves into sweaters).
