My trip started at the Millenia store in Chula Vista on Monday, 6-1-26, where Bryn (?) went above and beyond to help me find a store that had extra maroon ribbons so I could make a graduation lei for my niece this week. This Michaels is located by Target. They moved to this location a few years ago, I do miss it when it was across from Nordstrom Rack. I love browsing the aisles, looking at DIY projects etc. The prices are moderate to pricey, depends on the items but I like that you can get discounts when you sign up for their rewards program. It can be 20% to 50/75% off! I like that they offer curb side pick up and order online to pickup. It's so much faster since they have a designated pick up area; some times their lines can be super long. Excellent service from the cashiers and on floor staff. Best thing about this place is the location. It's clutch. I feel like it's a bit hidden too which means less foot traffic. But again I come and do mid afternoon trips or late night trips during the week which could contribute to why it's not a ton of people here. You can't go wrong here. It has all the basics your heart desires ... frames, crafts, paint, seasonal items and then some. It's one of those stores where I don't come enough and so the layout feels a bit weird to me. And there's not enough staff on the floor to help me find stuff more efficiently so that's the only hiccup I'd say in my experiences here. When I do find them, they never steer me wrong. There's always some sort of sale or coupon here. Usually if things I don't need or bought else where so it's not entirely helpful but I'm sure if you're more diligent and intentional than I am, you can maximize your savings. Parking lot in back is where I typically park. It's a quicker entrance rather than going though the mall. It's conveniently located next to the target and Nordstrom if you're making it a more longer shopping experience. You can generally find everything you need here and some miscellaneous ones you wouldn't expect to find at a craft store. I like to think this place as the Target or Office Depot crafts. No need to look any where else if you need art supplies. Unless of course you prefer more local shops which I always recommend. Try and catch them during a sale. You won't regret it! read more

I have only ever ordered online and picked up in store so this was my first experience shopping at this physical location. I was really excited because Halloween merchandise was readily available, unfortunately it was all a little too cute and not too spooky so I only ended up getting a flower ghost for a friend. BUT I did see the Halloween Village so I think I'll be placing an online order for it! My encounter at the register was why I given my review a 2 stars, no interaction with the cashiers but there were two at the front. I just stood there until I noticed that there was a self checkout. So I went over signed up for the rewards and then proceeded to scan my one item, I had spare cash so I wanted to use that and I asked the cashier near by if the machine took cash and she said, "read the sign." Somewhat disappointed with my most recent shopping experience here! I placed an online order of a few scrapbook paper pads yesterday. Three were accepted, but one was marked as unable to fulfill even though online it showed 17 in stock. Now I've worked in with BOPIS systems before so I know how things go but I called to see when this specific one would be stocked so I could place another order for this specific pad because it was the one I placed the entire order for. The manager said that the system could be showing that they have 17 1. Because they're all packed in the shipment still and it would take a few days to unload that shipment or 2. The system hadn't updated that they'd sold out. Both of those are completely reasonable so I said I'd consider just canceling the order (the manager offered to do so) & placing it again when the pads I want are all available but I ended up just keeping the order nonetheless. So today, less than 24 hours later, I go in to pick up my 3 paper pads that were fulfilled & I say what the heck -- let's just see if I can find a one off of the one I really want! Turns out there are at least 10 (likely more but I want to be conservative) on the shelves. So they must've gotten to the shipment extremely quickly! Quicker than even the manager estimated (a few days)! On a Saturday! Which is likely one of their busiest days of the week considering it's a weekend! I would've been satisfied if the manager would've just taken down my name & called when they had unpacked the paper pads I wanted, especially since the error was on their system's side. It may not have been possible since I'm sure it a busy store. Or offered to check another store, which wouldn't have even been necessary cause I was already checking on my end. But something would've been nice. The manager was perfectly kind & professional. I just found their willingness to go the extra mile to be nonexistent. read more

So this is alittle different of a post , last Sunday we were in Michael's with my family . Purchased my items and didn't want something so I gave my 8 year old to put it back . He ran off and it was taking longer than expected. Store was busy because it was on a weekend. We started calling his name and no response, walked up and down the aisles and we were not seeing him . Still calling his name and nothing . Panic set in because you think of the worst. We approached a cashier explaining we couldn't find our son . Immediately the store took action . Employees had ear pieces and it was notified of a missing child in the store . Employee stood at the door to monitor and I believe was not letting anyone in or out . Employee went with me to check the bathrooms, finally I saw my child run by . Then the all clear went through . I was appreciative of the store taking the quick action and taking it seriously. Michaels location moved from being inside the mall to totally outside of it. I wish they still had a way to get in on the mall side. It's located on the side of target, there is a small parking lot on this side but it's tough to get in and out of. They were very short staffed, took 15 minutes to check out, long lines. The store is very large on the inside. Love all the Halloween and fall stuff. They have events every Sunday but most of the time the events start late or are skipped entirely due to staffing issues which has been disappointing. read more

Covid-19: Homeschool Supplies (1) Michels is not only an art and craft store they sell educational toys and educational workbooks. We need to be extra thankful to our children's teachers and the school administrators when school reopens. Going on the third week of doing homeschool for my 3 boys and I'm scrambling for hands on things to do. I've ordered things online and have been waiting for it's arrival. I found out Michale's offers you to order online and pick up at the store. How the company is helping prevent Covid-19: The store is closed to customers. You place an order online and you will get a notification when it's ready. Not everything is available for pick up. When you look online it lets you know. When you arrive there is a designated place to park. You call the store and let the employee know your order number a description of your car. You pop open the trunk and the employee places the items in along with a receipt. I ordered later in the afternoon and my order was ready the following day. The whole process went smooth. I called when I got there and within a few minutes someone came out to drop off the items I ordered. read more

This Michaels used to be my go to store last year, I bought a bunch of frames for my posters and pictures, but the price has since gone up for all the Studio Decor frames, even the one that I bought before, I found the similar sizes at Target next door for $10 a piece, while I would pay $40 plus for a price of one frame plus taxes and discounted coupon; also the employee didn't seem to have knowledge about helping customers, I got some puzzles pictures today, and when I told her I would put that on the thinnest frame, she said it wouldn't work, I can tell she didn't know anything, because after I left to Target, I fitted 4 puzzles in the same frame size of 24x36. Oh well, they have more stocks on frames but just not the ones I am looking to buy anymore. read more

Me: Yes 1st interruption by original customer: original customer comes back and ask another question which sends the staff member to another room to look for whatever the customer is inquiring about. Staff member: Sorry about that, how can I help you. Me: yes, I would like to have these two mattes and ... 2nd Interruption: I'm here to pick up... Staff member: darts off again to help this customer. Staff member returns for the 3rd time: ok, how can I help you. Me: do you have a mahogany color frame; simple like this black one? 3rd interruption by another customer: excuse me I was here last week and ... Staff Member: once again she turns her attention to the other customer. Really? Come on! It is so rude for other customers to horn their way in front of another customer without waiting their turn, but it's another thing for the staff member to not be able to say, 'I'll be with you after I help this person.' The one in the valley is tough to get to if you're already in the mall and if you use a wheelchair you either have go around Macy then go through parking lots or go down through the car garage either way it's not that safe. So you have plan to just go there and not visit the mall. There's only two places for disabled parking in front of this Michael's. The one on Midway is in an old bowling alley building next to where Bowlwevel used to be. They have four disabled parking spaces. read more

Date of visit: March 28, 2018 As a Disney fan, there's plenty of souvenirs I've picked up on my visits that I've meant to put into a scrapbook, but haven't been able to find one. When Michaels sent me a coupon for 60% percent off one item in my email yesterday, I knew it was time for me to bite the bullet and head to the closest location coming home from work... which happens to be this one in the Westfield Mission Valley mall. Given my past experience at a Michaels, I was hoping not to get steamrolled by numerous shoppers focused on their crafting. Fortunately, this wasn't the case - the aisles weren't too crowded. (Maybe the fact that I was going on a weekday also helped.) It did take me a while to find where the scrapbooks were located, though; the aisles weren't really marked clearly. And, the entrance to the registers was also a bit hard to find as well. At least I found a Disney-themed scrapbook that I paid a little under $13 for (regular price was $30 - in the words of Brenda Song's character on "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody", yay me!), the staff were helpful in signing me up for their email club, and those coupons I get in my email are very useful. Consider this a 3.5 star review; now if I can only find time to work on my new scrapbook... read more

Hours went by, and *nothing*. No delivery, no text, no email. I tried doing a chat with online customer service, who refused to believe that I ordered *and paid for* Same Day Delivery. In fact, they cut me off the chat as soon as the possibly could- just kicked me out. I thought it wouldn't hurt to call my local Michaels, and they were helpful immediately. They looked up my online order and said it had been mis- identified as a Pick Up order. They apologized and made arrangements to send me my stuff at home as quickly as possible. THIS is customer service, folks- not a really bored "chat" buddy who cuts you off in mid-message with "I already told you it wasn't Same Day Delivery. Too bad." There are real human beings working at this Michaels store, and they deserve my sincere thanks. They didn't have to help an online customer, but they showed kindness and politeness. I bought my wife a cricut recently and she was never asked to enter her rewards number. We went back a week or so after to purchase some vinyl for her cricut and she asked the lady who checked us out what can we do. She said to call their 800 # and we did to just be told there was nothing that they could do about the missed rewards and the receipt was no longer valid because it was more than 14 days from purchase & you don't receive rewards for cricut. My wife is happy with her little purchase, but we should have just purchased it somewhere else. We should have remembered to enter our number but they should have asked as well. Disappointed that we can't get any points for the other purchases that we made. read more

This location has moved! It's next to target now and much easier to get you than the front of mission valley mall. It filled in the empty lot left by sports authority. I could have spent hours in the store! So many wonderful craft items here and most of the store was on sale! I was shopping for diaper cake supplies. They had a huge selection of ribbon colors and I was able to find the exact colors I needed. I even found the stuffing I needed for only $1 a pack! I shopped around for a little bit and found a shadow box on sale for 60% off! I've been needing one to do a shadow box for my half marathon medal and photos. They had all the Halloween goodies and even a lot of their Christmas decor out too. The store is well organized they keep similar craft items together in the same section or area. There was big bridal and wedding section too. Even had an entire wall of colored t shirts. Overall I'm happy they moved to this location. Had high hopes for this place once it moved but it was for nothing. First of all it's way more inconvenient now as it is not next to anything anymore. You have to drive and park just for Michael's. There is no entrance to the mall at all anymore. Now i rarely go, as I used to be able to just pop in but now I only go when I really need to go or when I remember to. Next is the staff. They are just terrible. I needed a friend which was for some reason only available on the top shelf. I waited for a long time in the framing department for someone to offer to help me as I was clearly seen and clearly waiting to be helped. Unfortunately it was taking 2 twenty something guys to help a pretty lady who wanted a frame, and I needed to wait. I just left, and I spent so long waiting in their checkout line that I watched two people get pissed off and leave the line. Before that I had to return something and the lady was returning my item started complaining to me about the worker next to her who was on the phone for too long. I mean honestly she did need to get off the phone and work but why complain to the customer? Unprofessional. Worst frame job quality for the price I've ever seen! DO NOT GET FRAMING DONE FROM THIS COMPANY! When they showed me the job done I immediately pointed out the issues which are shown in the pictures below. Spent over $340 on this framing job which was on sale so imagine my anger it I had paid regular retail price for this crap! Garbage! What made matters worse was the attitude of the employee helping me. Her name was Cynthia... she was stand-offish and told me that they send the image else where to a company named artistree and that's how they got the product. Just shows Micheal's standards - NONE I explained to her that I didn't matter who they outsourced to frame my images, that it reflects even worse on micheals for allowing this crap to reach their customers. She said there's no refunds and that the framing manager was gone for the day. I was able to get another manager to come over and she agreed with me that she wouldn't pay what I paid for the quality of the frame job she was looking at! Had to leave my images at the store until the framing manager calls me tomorrow. And I have to sit at home worried about my images being possibly damaged when being removed. This is specifically for the custom framing center inside Michaels. The customer service is horrible. Do not expect to receive your order on time, and do not expect anything resembling professional communication or courtesy. We were given a two week timeline for a frame that we ordered. Two weeks came and went with no call. We called them a few days later and they said they didn't know what was happening with the order but would call back. No one called. Several days later we called again. They said they needed to re-order a matte and would call back when they knew the timing. No one called back. We've gone back and forth like this about a dozen times. It's now been a month since we placed the order. The store has yet to call and provide any information. We've asked to speak to a manager and the manager has always "just stepped out". For a business that is reorganizing itself to try to compete with online retailers, you'd think that the service experience would be a first priority, but that seems to be the last thing they're worried about.
