Went into this location to get a frame for my picture. They not only helped me find the frame...but let me use their trimmer to make it fit perfect. I left with the photo framed and was able to drive right to the post office to mail it off as a Christmas gift. Very helpful......they also have a 65% off frame sale on Monday. read more

I needed some ribbon and some stickers to finish off the packaging of a few gift boxes for some little chocolate cakes I made, so I headed into Michael's. Normally when I go into Michael's, I'm looking for Wilton equipment, or cake boxes, all of which I'm familiar enough with, and don't need much help. For that, it's just fine. Today, I wanted to go in to get advice on how to make my package look best, so I brought one cake with me in the box, ready for its sticker and ribbon. I wanted help, so I wandered around the store (not busy at 11 AM) looking for someone to help me. No one seemed to want to help me. One woman was having an in-depth conversation with what seemed to be a friend.... they were not talking about anything relating to Michael's, or arts and crafts. I just stood there hoping she'd get the hint that I needed help. Eventually she did, and proceeded to try to help me. She showed me where to look for stickers, and made a bunch of very bad suggestions given what I told her I needed and the intent of the gift. I found my own stickers. We went to the ribbon, and I picked out the ribbon I liked. She helped to show me how to tie a bow, which was very nice; however, she then said she wanted to see what was inside and opened the box... moving the lid inward and pressing down on the top (why you'd do this to open a box eludes me), which pressed to lip of the top of the box right into my ganache cake!!!!! I wanted to run through the store running my hand through the shelves to knock everything off the shelves to repay her in kind, but decided against it. Had someone actually paid attention to me when I walked in, and then had the associate not ruined my cake trying to look at it, perhaps I'd have given this a 4-star rating because the woman attempted to be helpful to show me how to tie a bow and assess how much ribbon I'd need... but ruining my cake basically ruined the rating. She should have asked (not just assumed it was ok) to open the box, and then I'd have done it for her. read more

We love going to Michael's locations and this one is no exception to the rule. It's easy to get lost in these stores and walk out with crafts you never even thought you'd about doing. They also are a great spot to shop for seasonal decorations and the items usually go on sale about a week before the holiday, which is even better. I've no doubt we will be back to this store in the near future. read more

I came back to visit this location to help my mom with my dad's Chanukah present. The backstory to what is enclosed in the frame is an autographed jersey and some pictures from David Wright. Mr. Wright signed these for us and wished dad well, because he has stage four cancer and it's spreading very fast. My dad wanted to get the items framed as quickly as possible. Knowing that, I took my mom to Michaels, right to the framing department. I was so excited to see that Josh was working that day again. Josh came right over to us, he even remembered me from my last visit. (I blame the unorthodox photos lol!) But he remembered my name and instantly began helping my mom and I create a framed gift that was not only in our budget, but one that met our picky expectations. Josh spent HOURS helping us. He was such a huge help to us during this emotional "frame session". He was courteous, and funny, and just really willing to help. This man needs a promotion or a raise or both. When I got a phone call saying our order pick up date was going to be delayed by 2 weeks, Josh was ON IT! He called me back saying it would be ready on the original pick up date and then even wished my family a Happy Chanukah. As if this man's generosity cannot be overstated enough... when my mom came to pick up the gift, Josh helped her through the entire store and to the car to make sure we got the large frame home safely. Words cannot describe how my dad cherishes that frame. He screamed when he opened it and said it came out better than he had ever imagined. Than you. I recently brought in a large picture frame which needed to be reframed and repaired. I was very concerned not to ruin the original artwork. I can not praise Lisa Nelson in the framing department of Michael's in Scottsdale enough for the amazing job she did in reframing the artwork and also the customer service I received from her. We love the final frame she recommended and she went way above and beyond to help us out. In fact, I found this to be true of the other employees at this Michael's store. I have been to Michael's several times as it is my go-to craft store. It's conveniently located in the Promenade shopping center tucked between a clothing and a beauty store. The inside is well stocked and pretty well organized. I still get lost sometimes, but I enjoy wandering around as well. My only real complaint is how long it usually takes to check out and pay. Usually there is only one, maybe two, cashiers helping customers. So the line to check out can be pretty long. Then, when you actually go to pay, I've had the credit card machine time out after 5 minutes of waiting for it to process. I just wound up paying in cash, since the cashier informed me this was a regular occurrence and would probably time out again. Thus, whenever shopping at Michael's I try to have cash on me. Overall, if you are working on a craft project or want to find some inexpensive gift wrap or trinkets, then Michael's is a great place to stop by. However, go with the intention of spending at least an hour due to cashier slowness. read more

I don't like to write negative reviews, but I was so disappointed by the customer service, or lack thereof, that I received in the custom framing area of this Michael's store last night (Mon., 4/9/12), that I just had to write. First, let me state the obvious: custom framing is not cheap. I had spent over $200 to frame a couple pieces of beautiful & intricate artwork that I had bought overseas, while working in Africa. I was VERY excited to see the finished pieces, and so was waiting impatiently for the phone call from Michael's. The phone call never came, but the anticipated date of completion (yesterday) arrived, so I stopped in anyway to see if the pieces were done. The customer service rep at the custom framing desk asked for my name, and pulled out the finished pieces. I asked if they had been done for awhile, because I was curious how long they'd been sitting there completed, while I was eagerly awaiting a phone call. She told me that they were completed on the 7th, two days prior, and told me that from the notes on the sheet, someone had called me that day. My cell phone, which I NEVER turn off, was listed as the number to call. I had not received a phone call from Michael's, nor was there a missed call, nor was there a voice mail message. I politely responded, "I'm sorry, but no one called." To which she countered, "Yes, they did." To which I again responded, "I'm sorry, but they didn't." To which she again said, "Yes, they did." This went on for a few rounds before she said, "Well, phones are very strange these days." REALLY? You are going to argue with a customer who just spent over $200 on a custom framing job, insisting that I received a phone call I DID NOT receive? It doesn't end there. I wasn't 100% happy with the way my artwork appeared in the frame and the mat, so the framing manager was called to the desk to speak with me. The tenor of this second conversation was exactly the same. Me: "The edge of the artwork is closer to edge of the mat than I was expecting. I was hoping for a little more white space." Framing manager: "That was the edge of the picture; it was the only way to frame it." Me: "I bought the artwork, I remember what it looked like, and the edge of the picture was not that close to the top of the page." Framing manager: "Yes, it was." Me: "Again, I bought the artwork. I remember what it looked like. Maybe it was cut before it was framed?" Framing manager: "We never cut artwork here. I'm the one that framed it. I know what it looked like. This was the only way it could be framed." This also continued for a few more rounds. Aside from this minor issue, I was actually pleased with how the artwork looked, so I ended up taking it home as is, but I was SERIOUSLY disappointed by the haughty and argumentative attitudes of the staff, as if I was personally insulting them by suggesting that I did not receive the expected phone call, and that my artwork was perhaps not framed 100% as I expected. I went Michael's to have 2 pictures framed. There was a 50% off sale on frames. I picked frames from the displays and had them framed. I got 2 receipts. One was computer generated and one was from the cash register. To my dismay the amounts did not match. The explanation I received was not altogether satisfactory although I got a $5 credit. Be careful to go over the record carefully. They did do a great job with my pictures. The staff doesn't understand what is going on with the screwy receipts either. read more

I went into Michaels with the intention of meeting with a sales person to discuss framing a very important picture of mine. When meeting with the salesperson, I was quoted $458 to frame this picture. I was definitely surprised and thought the price was a bit high but was relieved to know that I had a coupon for 70% off. When I gave the sales person the coupon I was told by the sales rep the quoted price was the "basic discounted price" and that if I chose to use the coupon, the "retail price" of the framing was actually $1300 and I could apply the 70% off coupon to the $1300 price. Not sure if legal ramifications apply but if I did this in my business I wouldn't be employed! Stay away! read more

On this occasion alone, I purchased nearly 400.00 of Halloween decor at the store on Scottsdale Road, Pavilions. Upon opening the boxed decor, I found missing parts and broken pieces, rendering the products unusable. Had to return to the store and (sadly) had to deal with the manager. First I was told I had to wait for the person who boxed them to come in to work. I was unhappy with that (because that is ridiculous) and asked for the issues to be dealt with. The manager was impolite and wouldnt even let me finish a sentence before dismissing me. Then I was told the missing pieces didnt come with the items, even though the directions clearly stated they did. I have also confirmed directly with the manufacturer that they are included with those items. I was forced to return the items that were important to the theme. This in turn causes the return of all related items as they wont work any longer. So now another trip required. At at time when stores need us to support them, its very sad to see such disrespectful behavior of the customers time and potential exposure in order to do that. I spend thousands of dollars at Michaels seasonally for personal and event design. I will not return to Michaels. read more

As far a Birthday party events go, I would hold off booking one until they figure out a business plan for this. We didn't really get what was described on the website and no face painting so kids were kind of sitting around bored between projects. Found a discount code on line for 40% off my entire purchase. Shopped in the store for approximately an hour. Wanted to purchase about a dozen things. Got to the counter and the cashier would not honor the code. Makes absolutely no sense in the fact that I could go physically cut out the coupons and make multiple visits to the store to get what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay. Left the merchandise there and went next door to Pier 1. Great selection for what I needed at Pier 1. Ended up spending $110 there. read more

Do NOT use their framing service if you want quality results the first time. I took a picture to Michaels to be reframed. I dropped it off on November 6, and I finally have the finished product (finally picked it up on January 13). The first time I went to pick it up, the mat looked like it had been cut by a five year old. The edges were ragged and uneven; the corners were not sharp. There were fingerprints and dust on the mat, underneath the glass. I pointed out these flaws and was told the picture would be reframed and it would be given a priority. Well, several weeks went by before I heard from Michaels again. I went in a second time to pick it up, and there was STILL dirt under the glass on the mat. So I left it yet again, only to wait several weeks to be contacted. Third time . . . STILL dirt under the glass on the mat. Again I was told it would be handled as a priority and I would get a call right away. Needless to say, several weeks went by before I heard again from Michaels, but thankfully the FOURTH time is the charm. Ugh. read more

Ok, as short a time ago as last year, I would do ANYTHING to avoid shopping at Michael's - any of them. I'm a full time painter/potter/arts & events instructor, and I buy a fair bit of art supplies. Michael's was always a last resort - not only because the prices were so out of whack, but because the sales staff was sooooo - unhappy. Surly, even. Uninformed. So, I don't know what happened, but there must have been some kind of a shake up. Or maybe I just caught them on a really bad day every single time I was in. However, the last couple of times I have been in there, service has been fabulous, and - with coupons and specials - prices were actually, well, good. I'd give it 5 stars but for the fact that they forgot to put stuff i my bag which necessitated an almost hour drive (one way!) to get it - but the person at the desk when I got there was super helpful, the manager had everything packaged up for me, and they made pickup super fast and easy. Horrible!! I bought a cutter from Michaels for $23. I found one that would suit my purpose better at an office store. It was over 30 days when I took it back. I had the bag, receipt and nothing was opened. By the time they got thru with me I only got $10 back on a $23 item! The manager had to sign off on it so before I left I wanted to ask her to tell her corporate office that it is "The worst Return Policy anywhere." I hadn't gotten the first sentence out before she gave me a dirty look and walked away. There wasn't anyone else in line so there was no reason to run away. Yes, I was polite! annoyed but polite! I will never shop Michaels again. JoAnns is near by and so is Aaron Bros. Hopefully they aren't owned by this same group of horrible retailers.
