Michaels is a good chain for crafts. This is a little bit older store and not as "fancy" as some newer ones in the Chicagoland area. I was also a little disappointed that I forgot my sales flyer / coupon at home. When I explained this to the salesgirl at the register, she said, "we don't have coupons in the store." Hmmm, really? I didn't find this answer as customer friendly as I would have liked. So I'm knocking off a star for that. At the end of the day, aren't the coupons to bring traffic into the store? Does it really matter if I have it or not? At another location, the sales person gave me the discount using a coupon he kept at the register. You can literally spend hours in this store! I'm not particularly crafty, but when I get inspired Michael's is the place I know will have everything. From scrapbooking to floral arranging, Michael's has a vast selection of merchandise. When you can actually find an employee to assist you they are extremely helpful and will guide you to what you're looking for. One woman went above and beyond giving me good advice for the project I'm working on. The merchandise is generally well-stocked, but occasionally things are sold out. I do like that they keep up with the times, particularly in the jewelry department. You can find trendy items, goth items and classic pieces. Prices are not always that cheap, but there are always coupons printed from your receipts or online if you sign up for their email club. They are usually for 40-50% off one particular item. I also like the custom framing center. They are extremely helpful and will work within your budget without pushing you to buy the most expensive option. You can usually find coupons for custom framing as well. This particular store can get crowded on the weekend and the parking lot is a zoo. Otherwise, I love Michaels. The cashiers and floor people are really friendly and helpful. Prices could be lower, but the sales and coupons make it easier to shop here. read more

Michael's stores can be a bit overwhelming with products everywhere as soon as you enter and even outside the store in their bargain bins. Their merchandizing planogram could use a refresh but it's still relatively easy to find what you are looking for without needing a store associate to help you navigate the aisles. They have sales often enough that shopping here can be a real value at times. They also have a pretty diverse base of products that almost anyone interested in crafts can find useful in their artistic endeavors. I am not very artistically inclined and shop here mostly for their framing selection which I believe to be the best you can find anywhere without having to go online. I've been to a few locations and I have found this one to be on par with others. My only point of criticism comes from the fact that their store shelves and the store overall is a bit dusty but that's me being critical. This shouldn't stop you from shopping here at all but dusting the store shelves or filtering the ventilation would be a thoughtful consideration that I am sure that customers would appreciate. read more

Being a paddle maker, and scrap booking aficionado they always seem to be out of everything and never have anything in back. Its a hassle to find someone to help you find ANYTHING, and when (if) you do, they are just plain rude. Listen people working at Michaels- I DO NOT WORK HERE. So do not expect me to know where the whole punchers, silk ribbons and glittery paints are. They clearance bins are too big, and the items in there are too small and are always overfilled. You can never "dig" in there to find anything, because it'll all just fall over. read more

I love Michael's- BUT- the curbside pickup due to covid-19 sucks!! I have done curbside pickup at other places with very friendly and helpful customer service. NOT HERE! I went to pick up my order. I called from the parking lot. The lady who answered asked me which table I was pulled up to. Since it was my first time picking up at Michael's, I didn't know about the tables. When I said I wasn't at a table, she just went off that I need to be at the store before I call etc. I had to stop her to get her to hear me that I was in the parking lot. She told me to pull up to table 1 and put my ID on the table! Like what? Leave my ID just there? So I stood outside my car- 6' away. She came out with my order - looked at my ID... then she picked it up? What? What happened to touchless pickup? I was annoyed at the whole deal. I am like a kid in a candy store in here. There's so much to see, so much to touch and all sorts of fun stuff to make. I like to make my own jewelry sometimes, and I found everything I needed here - wire, beads (although, their selection is limited and you can only get the cheap stuff here), pliers, glue, clasps. I wanted to buy a glue gun just for the sake of having one. Seriously this place is like crack to me. My only complaint is about the staff. After I leave Michael's I want to become a scrapbooker, a jewelry maker, and take up painting. This place is jam-packed with craft and home decor goodies and it is extremely affordable. The store is nicely organized and in my experiences the employees have been very helpful and eager to help you find something if need be. As others have said, they are constantly giving out coupons for 40% off an item on your next purchase and they often have huge sales. I went to go pick up my art supplies due to the covid pandemic. Once I arrived my mom and I began calling to tell them our order number and all of that. We kept calling over and over and would either get disconnected or nobody would answer. We eventually got fed up and began waving through the door to get someone's attention. They all just ignored us and kept on with their duties. Nobody came out to help us and when they did they told us you need to keep calling. Even though they could've just taken our order number outside? They were so rude and someone in front of us was trying to explain the phone problem to them and she shut and locked the door as she was still talking. This rating is really a shame. I would love to give Michael's 5 stars because they have so much great stuff and always a deal on something you're getting. However, although their customer service is great - there's never anyone around to help find something or answer questions. The past 2 times I've been there, I've had to go all the way in the back to the framing section to ask where to find something. It would be great to go to the front, but there's always a long line and I'm not going to wait in line just to ask where something is nor am I going to rudely interrupt a customer who's been waiting to check out. It's frustrating and causes me to be in the store wayyy longer than necessary just to find one thing. read more

Poor shopping experience compared to other locations. I approached an employee to ask a question and she sighed loudly and was visibly annoyed. The paper selection was shotty. When I couldn't locate an item, the only employee I could find after several laps was the same rude employee (who couldn't answer my last question) so I gave up and went to check out. When the cashier asked me if I found everything I was looking for, I told her no. There were no follow up questions or offers of assistance. Why bother asking? While I have been happy with the framing service, for the most part, I needed to write something about the floor staff. There is an older woman that works there that just shouldn't be. She is rude and confrontational. She also seems to dislike children and runs around like a mother hen correcting the children's behavior. So my kid bounced a ball in the store. No need to come rushing around the corner and tell me that he is not allowed to do that in such a rude and loud manner and then stand around watching us and come running back the moment you hear it bounce again. I can manage my own kid. We're not buying a ball unless we test it out. If you don't want people bouncing them, don't sell them. By the way, you're supposed to provide customer service, not security. When my wife told me she harped on my son once before for looking at things and moving them around, we left without buying anything. Management should have a talk with her. I didn't feel like calling a manager in the store because we were having a nice day and I didn't want her to change that. read more

I come to Michaels often they offer so many different things, if you you need it they have it down to glues of all colors to make slime and big bottles for your child/ children that make it daily! This review is as a shopper only, no framing or classes. I was really not thrilled with this store. (I will admit it was a Saturday before Halloween season.) it's really cramped and poorly laid out. The staff is friendly and helpful, but do nothing about the screaming children, crowded aisles, or general atmosphere of the store. The amount of unruly kids with parents who don't care is usually something that gets to me, but I was notably peeved because the staff was walking the floor and did nothing. Sure, there are independent craft stores with larger selections. Those stores have products that are more 'specialty.' But you know what else those stores have? OUTRAGEOUS PRICES! Micheals may be overlooked because it's a chain. But they are forever giving out coupons, and even with purchases, vouchers for 40% off one item on your next purchase. That at least brings ME back into the store. Canvases are pretty cheap. They have a great selection of acrylic paints and they carry Sculpey clay, which is the only clay I believe in using! LOTS of yarn, crafts and patterns, beads, fake flowers. It's a great store. Sometimes hard to find an employee to help you and smells like crafts and baskets. But that's about it. read more

I truly understand that things aren't operating like that had been before the crisis, but I also think that as an organization they need to manage expecatations better. Tomorrow is the first Mother's Day since my mother died, and I spent a significant amount of time looking for something special to bring to her gravesite. When I placed my curbside order this morning, got a snappy e-mail right back, "we are working on it", to be followed by an e-mail that said, "still working on it". So was hopeful that I would have it to bring tomorrow morning. Called this afternoon, when I didn't hear and the store picked up phone and hung up on me. Went to their Chat, waited about 45 minutes (I was number 91) and when it started getting down in numbers, and I was number 2, the counter jumped back to number 8, (how is that even possible?) Needless to say the auto services didn't work and Shayla P was also of no help. She escalated my call, and then I got cut off. Back to 91. Not mad, just disappointed. Still going to try to get the arrangement, but realize it will not be for Mother's Day. My suggestion is that they tweak their online tools to be more realistic, if I had known that there was a chance that they could not fulfill. I would have gone elsewhere or adjusted my expecatations. read more

The store is big, and full of everything you'd expect at an arts and crafts store. I went in today for their 50% off of frames promotion. I lugged those big things around, and was a bit confused by the register set-up, but I made it there. They are sectioned off in a way that suggests they sometimes have very long lines which need to wind around the store. I asked the cashier if the frames were part of the promotion, but she blankly didn't answer. So, I waited for her to ring them up, as there's a screen where I can see prices. She was very pleasant and friendly, but when I asked if the promotion was working on all of them since they were all the same brand, she didn't know. She kept saying "I don't know" and when I asked if she could find out why on $66.00 only $12 was coming off, she looked petrified. I wasn't being aggressive or rude, I just wanted to know what to do so I could get in on the sale, and she just stared blankly saying she didn't know. She was very nice, but not hepful, so I left without anything :/ Maybe it was an off day. I'll try again some day and look for a manager to help. read more

I like going to this store to get arts and crafts supplies. They haves some really nice baskets and vases whih you can decorate with flowers, paint, and rhinestones to set up in your homes. Most of their stuff is pretty nice and reasonable. They always have weekly ads with sales and specials. I especially like going here after Christmas. They have all of their Christmas items on sale!! I went into the Skokie store today looking for a prop kit for a Christmas party that I am having. The first lady I spoke to said the only ones they have are for weddings and they are in aisle 72. The only one that was in that aisle was a wedding prep kit which is not what I needed. So I go online to the Michael website while I'm in the store and I see that it says they do carry them in the store that are not wedding themed. So I go to the cashier and ask him if he can search their database for prop kits and tell me which ones they have on hand. He said they do not have that kind of system and all they have a floor associates that can just search for it on the floor. So basically he said there's no way of knowing what they have in the store its just what they know is their off the top of their head. So then I ask another girl who's at the register if she knows where they are & she said they used to have them in aisle 79 but she hasn't seen them in a long time so I go to the aisle and they are not there. So I asked for a manager and the cashier sends me to Brian, the manager. I asked Bryan if he could go online and look and see if they have any prop kits in the store similar to the ones they sell on the Michael's website. I show him a couple photos from their website that I had seen that I was interested in. He leads me to a section where there are more than one type of prop kit and exactly the type I was looking for, a Christmas themed kit. It took less than a minute for him to help me and it was very disappointing that everybody else had no idea what I was talking about and were not helpful at all. I don't understand how a store as big as Michael's and have as much inventory as they do not have a system to search items. Brian is a good manager and he knows what he's doing and he knows his way around the store, as for everybody else, the three people I talked to at least, need to be better trained. read more

Personally I love Michaels, and have always had pleasant experiences in the past. However, the manager at this branch is one of the worst people I've ever encountered. He mistreats his workers, is unorganized and unhelpful, and honestly just looks like a complete ass. He pretended not to know where some felt markers were just so that he could go on with whatever was more important to him at the time. (Hey guess what pal, the customer is always right!) Not even attempting to help or show me any interest, the manager gave me very stale and blunt responses, making ME feel dumb for not knowing where the item was. Eventually he walked away, continuing to type on his phone rather than help me in any sort of way. A manager who cares more about texting his girlfriend than helping out an actual customer should no longer be employed. Once again, this review is not meant to be negative toward Michaels as a store or a company. He is simply an awful human being. read more

Where to begin? Michaels has so much that you can spend hours walking around! I went to Michaels for wedding announcements and other fun wedding related items. The prices are extremely reasonable and they have a great variety of do it yourself invitations, etc. This is a great place for a bride on a budget. My only disappointment about this place was that there doesn't seem to be enough staff and because of that, it is very difficult to get help if you are looking for something. Everyone is very nice and helpful, but once you finally do find someone to help you, you can tell they feel rushed to get to the next customer. I think the staff is just spread too thin. I've been to Michaels many times and it's always the same with long lines and not enough floor staff. I recommend going here when you have some time and are not rushed. The staff is happy to help you, but make sure to ask all your questions once you have found someone because it could be a while before you can get help. Owner, please hire more people! Your store is great, your staff is trying, your customers will probably buy more if they can get more help. read more

Can find most everything you need for crafts if you have time and energy to search for it, but the store (for a suburb) is too small and not thoughtfully organized. For example, if you simply want to create a holiday ornament you must look for the Styrofoam forms in one area in the middle of the store, sequins are on one far wall, and then you must go to the sewing area for sequin pins in the other end of the store (Sequin pins are not used in sewing, by the way.) Everything is crammed into little spaces so you have to shift around stuff to get to what you need. The aisles are cramped, naturally. If you need help, you will rarely find someone and if you do, they are in an enormous hurry and have no time to help you. Yesterday, I found ONE person who seemed less depressed but could not catch her so I was forced to ask a rude one who tried to zoom by without making eye contact. She was rude like most of them. They hate working here and let you know it. Checkout is always SLOW with maybe one person working it plus their computer system is a real dog. Overall, this is an unpleasant experience but I endure it because sometimes I need what they sell. Most of them time I try to buy it on Amazon. read more
