So I've been looking all over for carving paper tracing paper. I came to Michael's as a last resort and Madison was at the County and Lacey. He was doing stocking or so extremely helpful. It's the end of the night they're about to close and they had no problem, helping me with a smile on their face and greeted me like I owned the place. My girl ordered something at Michael's so I drove her over to go pick it up. We did the curbside pickup because we were running a few other errands and since they added the curbside pickup, it's pretty easy. I've picked up her supplies here before curbside with no issue. But yesterday, we sat there for an hour and no one came out. We thought, maybe they're busy, we weren't in a rush so the time passed us by and we didn't even notice how long it had been till her sister texted us. She popped in the store real quick and noticed that it was in fact not busy at all, and even though she only saw one employee at the counter, they were not busy at all. It was pretty disappointing, we love coming here to pick up crafts and decorations, even stuff for our wedding, and it was kind of outrageous that this one employee was at the register when they have self check out. Also, there was no way there was ONLY ONE employee there. It was a Saturday, there's always at least four or five employees there on the weekends. This is the worst Michael's. The staff is rude, they hate being there. It is self checkout and when you need them to take something off because it was not labeled correctly or mismarked they either A) give you an attitude or B) don't know how and tell you that you have to wait until someone comes in to their shift to take it off. I always wonder with self check out if we can get a discount for doing their job. The attitude in this craft store is absolutely unbelievable. It's crafts and a hobby store. At least pretend to enjoy bunnies and buttons. Miserable! It's a mess and everything is labeled incorrectly. -10/5 stars. This Michaels is pretty small for an arts and crafts store, I mean I haven't been going for a few months now, right now they have deals for picture frames buy one get one 50%, so I scored a bundle of 8.5x11 Studio Decor, I save about $10 and getting 8 frames, not a bad deal, I do wish they could apply another discount for me, the only thing missing from this store was their toys, all they have were some animal figurines and bo model cars or anything else, no anime, and no toy soldiers, you basically buy animals to make a farm or a safari, but nothing else, other Michaels might have more if I remember correctly, unless it was Hobby Lobby, still the place has a convenient spot in Vista located in a big shopping center with others read more

I used to very much dislike needing to come here. Note I say need, for they carry the majority of inventory most suited for say any given project - when projects don't have the luxury of patience.. waiting for online shipping. Blah, reason I'm writing. For the once and only first time out of more than too many to count; a customer service rep, by the name of Megan. Was kind and approachable. No, even better best yet still! I can say this because, she approached me. Most times, it feels as if I am a bubonic plague level of inconvenience for the staff on hand. So I've learned to apologetically shop in fearful tip toe silence. Like Indiana Jones in the temple of Doom. If there's a question to be asked, I pray to the gods of retail, there is precisely the correct amount of sand in the bag. Michaels is my go to store when I feel creative and inspired to complete DIY projects. I have taken a few classes in the past and enjoyed some of the events the offer. Apparently Michaels now offers some classes & events for free via Zoom during COVD-19. I love the weekly ad. They send various coupons via email, text, or app. The emails were a little much for me, but you'll never miss the latest trends, deals, and/or promotions. For all you amazing educators, Michaels offers a 15% teacher discount in store and online. There are some discount exclusions, but most items apply and it all adds up. This location is conveniently located in a busy shopping center and across the street from an even busier shopping center, but don't worry there's plenty of parking! read more

This place had very bare shelves when I went in the middle of the day. This made it hard to find what I needed and had to go elsewhere.

This Micheals tends to have damaged product and can't give discounts. AVOID if you can and inspect what you are buying closely. If a box is ripped open at the bottom, a dollar discount should be the least of what a store can do. Disappointing. Customer service 0-10. I was so disappointed on how horrible these 2 girls treated me. I was calling them out for help very nicely saying excuse me as they both speed walked to go to the back room one of them came back and gave me the worst attitude and was nearly walking away as she answered my question. It was a white girl and another girl with glasses and a tattoo on her arm, as a person who worked for this store and other customer service places I could never treat people like that. Hm these old reviews are.. old :) This place is always pretty well organized and stocked like it was tonight. Kind of a weird layout but it's a craft store lol our brains are everywhere anyway. Everything was in shape and getting ready for tomorrow before they close in an hour. I had two people helping me tonight, not sure who else was working. Daisy came up to me while I was on my search, asked how she could help right away.. quiet but sweet lol she was familiar with the place and knew just where the things were that I was looking for. She even told me the closest place to find what they didn't carry. Samuel was at the check out, nice kid too. I've never seen them here before the pandemic and I would have remembered bc there used to be some grumps working at this location.. I submitted an online order for curbside pick up. 15 minutes after I submitted this order I received notification stating my order had been pick up. I called to notify the store I had not picked up my order. I was told it was still there and I could pick it up curbside. I was directed to call the store and someone would bring it out. When I got to the store, 1/2 hour before curbside pick up closed, I began calling the store and rather than having someone answer I continued to get a busy signal for 20 minutes. Finally, I put on my mask and went into the store. I am an immunocompromised cancer survivor and wasn't happy at all that I had to go into the store!! I was met by a young girl who found my order, but, never addressed why they were not answering the curbside phone. I was not going to write a review on this incident even though I was terribly unhappy and inconvenienced, until today when I received an order shipped to me from Michael's and the container of crafting pearls had broken open and pearls were scattered throughout the box! I like how Michaels has so many random things other than crafts and art supplies here. With their 40% off one item coupon on the back of your receipt or the 50% off one item coupon you can get from the website, sometimes you might just not know what kind of good deal you can bring home without making a trip there. By taking advantage of their coupons, I was able to get a muffin baking pan with lid for only 7 bucks! Yes they have an aisle for baking supplies! Aside from the standard art and craft supplies, how can we forget it's also one of the places to shop for seasonal decor! It might not be the cheapest place but if you know how to use the coupons wisely, you'll end up with a lot of good deals. The store was quite organized but some items were not re-stocked. Most of the time the staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking here especially being at the end of the plaza! read more

Today I needed to pick up something for a project for a group I co-facilitate. I was really disappointed that the location did not have more than two units of the 12 items I needed. I knew I may need to obtain the item at a couple locations, but now I have to go to four or five locations to meet the needs for the group. For those who craft you know it's much better to gather and have the items you need on hand versus resorting to an online purchase. If Michael's online were only as efficient as Amazon I would have pursued this route first. it's not speedy and it's nice to check out the condition of the item you are purchasing for a project that you plan to share with others. I wish someone would come up with a bigger and better version of a Michael's. One that is set up more like a department store. i find that Michael's does provide staff for stocking and helping throughout the store. However, there is ALWAYS a line with a minimum of five people waiting and generally only one register open! On a bad day it could take 30 minutes just to get through the line. Crafters need convenience and I feel Michael's is missing the point on this one. I am giving them two stars because their staff do try to assist on the floor and for many SKU's they have their departments are fairly well organized. read more

I have shopped at many locations of Michael's for many years. Even though majority of their employees had little to none customer service skills, it was always so fun at the end when at check out, the cashiers would ask "did you find everything you needed"? There would at least be 3-4 cashiers and slowly it has dwindled down to 1-2. The shopping experience is boring. There is no music playing, no sense of happiness and excitement. It's like walking through a garage sale or warehouse. So, here's the worst decision that this coming has made. Self check out! It is pathetic! It is now brought down to zero customer service! Another words, ring up your own items, bag up your own items, feed the computer your money and be on your way. No happy smiles, one to zero thank you and the best part, carry your own stuff cause you have a words from a real human, you can't take the carts out. Wow! What a way to set yourself up to TOTAL BORING SHOPPING!!! Attention to the corporation and owner(s) of Michael's. You have now created a way to lose 50-60% of your customers. She was very patient and knowledgeable. I've received great service from customer framing in the past as welll from another associate so I know it wasn't a one off. I haven't been here for some time, since I've have my own little Michael's in my office, thanks to their 40% off coupon :) But, their candles were on sale so I made a visit yesterday with my niece. Of course I had to buy some fun things for my niece, they have reasonable price, short projects, and trinkets. I like to shop at this location, it is convenient for me. They usually have the item(s) I am in search for. It is clean for the most part, during the holiday's it looks more disarrayed as I'm sure all stores do at this time of the year. It is a mad house in this store during any holiday preparations and their sales! Good business for them :) Since I know that this is a smaller store I know they wont stock some items that the other Michael's carry. I will call first to see if they have it and if not they will usually suggest a store or call the store for me to check if they carry it. Sometimes their ads are a little tricky so make sure you read "carefully." And it stinks when they place a sales sticker in the wrong section! But like that hasn't happened to me before in another store :( There have been a few employees that have kindly assisted me, but sometimes the new hire or regular employees that are only available to help me, show the attitude of not wanting to help. Shame on them! The checkout lines do get extremely long so you better have some chocolate stashed in your purse so you'll be a happy camper while you wait! read more

I had the most wonderful experience with the custom framing department at this store. Tepanka was so friendly and patiently helped me to create exactly what I was envisioning for a very special piece I wanted to frame. The process was quick and, as promised, they handled this delicate piece with care. The final product was ready just two weeks later and I was wowed! The frame was more beautiful than I expected and was precisely what I had discussed with her while we were creating the frame. Misguiding customer service, poor inventory tracking. Just lazy. So we were told from the Oceanside store the item we were looking for was at this one so we call ahead and gave them the item number and reserved it. We get there and find out the item wasn't even the one that matched the one on there app. So we show them a picture but instead of looking it up or asking the lady just says oh I don't know where that would be. Annoyed already, the manager steps in and takes us to a location which has similar items and takes a glance and tells us oh the item is discontinued then leaves after a half ass apology. They didn't bother looking up in their inventory for the item TWICE and straight up lied to us saying it was discontinued. Definitely going to hobby lobby near by. This is ridiculous. read more

She comes off as cold and angry, not really wanting to deal customers and just hating her job. You really have to be personable to work in customer service. Dishonest employees...I placed an order online for curbside pick up... I know that inventory is accurate online. It said it was in stock... NOT 'limited quantity.' I paid for it...and when I picked it up I didn't look in the bag because I was in a hurry to get home...but when I came home I realized it wasn't in there. I checked online and it still said it was in stock at that store... This morning I got an email telling me my order was cancelled. I was so excited about bringing it home to my toddler. While I did find what I was looking for when I got to the register myself and another customer. We're trying to ask the young cashier, how to access the 40% off barcode. The cashier didn't seem to have an answer for us and glossed over the question basically ignoring the other customer. When it was my turn, I asked for the manager who then clarified the need to log into the app to access the 40% off coupon. However the reason I'm giving this low rating is because first of all, the cashier did not try to problem solve with the first customer and completely ignored the customers question, secondly, Roberta the manager who came up to explain what was going on, was unfriendly borderline rude. I think this store needs to do some extra training on customer service, and how to interact with customers. read more

MARY was a life saver at this store! My THIRD Michaels store today in search of a pre-cut mat board. Went to Oceanside they sent me to Encinitas (showing 2 in stock). Encinitas has one (they sent me to Vista showing 7 in stock). Got to Vista and they had none. So MARY made me one!! Thank you! Also VISTA is way cheaper! How is that?? The same frames that were $56 in Oceanside AND Encinitas were only $42 in Vista. read more

Went in for the first time since since my last review so it's been about 2 years. Decided to go because of a marketing email they sent this morning... The entire email was bright red and the top read: "Exclusive 20% off All sale & clearance from 4pm-Close. Today Only". Directly below in the same bright red & attached to the coupon ad showed: "lowest prices of the season sales' that included things like fall decor & baskets which were already 40-60% off So I went online, made a list, and headed in to give it another shot. Only after I was in the store placing my things in the cart did I see a sign "NO ADDITIONAL COUPONS ALLOWED ON DOORBUSTER ITEMS"...which were the same exact items that came up from the email. So I wasted time making a list in an attempt to save time in the store. The email was EXTREMELY misleading and should have been clear about the limitations of the "exclusive discount for limited hours only". They have completely reorganized the store but it's no better than before. I had to ask about a basket & was told to try the 2 separate areas (on completely opposite sides of the store). The prices have gone up quite a bit, which surprised me since they purchased the manufacturing side of their business over a year ago so it's all done in house to cut costs. The baskets & paint supplies I've purchased in the past are A LOT more expensive, even at the discounted price. Example: 10" x 5" wood crate with lettering @ 60% discount= $19.99! I overheard others making comments about the prices as well. One woman said "$22 is the SALE PRICE for 4 thin stalks of dried flowers?! Who would pay that?" I had a good experience with other staff members but the checkout woman looked as if smiling would have physically hurt her & was extremely impatient. After seeing me place my canvas bags on the counter she asked "if I needed bags?" And after I replied I was ok she informed me "well the carts don't go outside"....um ya, that's why I brought bags. I gave her my 25% off sale items coupon from Joann coupon since they match them as long as the terms are the same & was told "we don't accept that one". I wasn't surprised after the my last experience & was already irritated I'd even come in to the store so didn't feel like asking why. I just gave her the 'exclusive' (not really) 20% coupon. While watching the screen for my chip card to process I was bagging up items, in the middle of placing a straw bale into the large bag (which takes 2 seconds) it flipped to the signature screen & she snapped at me to "sign it now". This was just a reminder on why I stopped shopping here & wont be back again in the future. Thanks to Hobby lobby, Joann, and Amazon providing other options that are cheaper and provide a much better customer experience there is no need to deal with all the frustration or give them my money. read more

With all the crafty people out there, I'm surprised that no one has yelped this Michael's until now. I've searched and searched but it doesn't exist...so that means, I'm FIRST to review. = ) I stopped in today because I needed more supplies for my project (you never buy enough) and was amazed on how clean the store was. After just being at the Encinitas store, this one looked 100x's better. The one thing I immediately noticed also was the store was much better stocked. All the christmas bins were still packed unlike the Encinitas store which was more picked through and all remained were scraps. This was not the case in the many aisles they had full of holiday stuff. They didn't have the mirrors I needed to finish my snow flake flurries but off to another Michael's I shall go a bit later tonight. I was able to pick up several other things that I needed so it wasn't a complete loss at least. The line was half way down the store but it moved pretty quickly and the cashier apologized for the long wait. I was impressed. read more

This Michael's seems to have less stock on items and VERY messy. The planner section is horrible. The planners and accessories are all out of place. Wrong prices on items then get get the run around by the cashiers. Ann seems to be very rude with a attitude everytime we come into the store. Not very pleasant and huffs and puffs. Horrible manager. Went in today and asked to purchase spacers from the Frame Shop. A nice worker paged her manager and she came back and I asked her to purchase the item. Yesterday I was at Aaron Bros and they were out of stock and suggested I try Michaels," they own us and might have stock." The manager at Michaels didn't know what spacers were and called her Framer. First of all she was very rude and seemed upset she was paged. I'm sorry you work in retail and an actual customer is taking you away from looking at your phone. The framer says no, I could hear over he phone and the manager gleefully says," we don't sell supplies." Cool. The issue is there are ways to say no to someone that doesn't make them feel like they asked you for a kidney. I will never return to Michaels. read more

Through the years this store has been my usual Michael's go-to due to it's close proximity and array of glorious art/craft items. Each trip to this store has me most often focused on a particular supply I need and a 40% coupon in hand (paper or iphone) to make the purchase sweeter.These priorities have always made it easier to weather through the occasionally challenging/unfriendly cashier experiences. I've often wondered who does the hiring at this store and what qualities are they looking for in an employee? I mean, I'm thinking that most people that shop at a craft store are creative, friendly types that really appreciate the simple things in life like smiles and laughter. Okay, well, that's me...but really...most people appreciate at least a pLeAsAnT person at the end of their shopping adventure before handing over the money, right? Well, the last several weeks my shopping visits have become so much sweeter! Michael's has a cashier named Melissa and she is a delight! If you appreciate dealing with someone that is personable, warm, friendly, smart and accurate(!) then you too will leave this Michael's a happier person. This store has been rearranged and was NOT ADA accessible. I did complain a couple of months ago. I went in today and the isles seem reasonable. However, I asked to use the accessible checkout stand and was told NO "we only have that counter open sometimes." The sign and the law is ALWAYS accessible. Hobby Lobby here I come. read more
