In our search for the right photographer for our wedding, we wanted to find someone who would be able to capture candid moments as well as posed shots, and someone who was familiar with our wedding venue. When we met the group at The Great Bridal Expo, we were impressed with their portfolio and with how many people were gathered around their booth. We mentioned where our wedding was, and Van grabbed one of their albums to show us exactly what we could look forward to since they had worked a wedding at our venue in the past. He quickly gained my trust with his knowledge of the area. Shortly after attending the Bridal Fair, I contacted Michael's Wedding Group to ask some more questions. Sue responded to my email within hours of sending it! She really is great at communicating with their clients. Although I do love to look at beautiful engagement photos, I didn't want our session to be by that one tree at that one park. I imagined something different and more fun. We originally chose to have our engagement session at The Color Factory, but we weren't able to get tickets to any of the slots. We did, however, manage to snag some tickets for the first week that The Museum of Ice Cream opened in San Francisco. Sue was very patient as we tried to coordinate all of our schedules while we tried to get the super coveted tickets to MOIC. Michael met us at the Museum of Ice Cream and we had the best engagement session I could imagine! It resulted in a lot of awesome pictures, delicious treats, and we felt really comfortable while having our pictures taken at a public place with lots of people watching. Van and Israel were our photographers on our wedding day. I sent them an extensive list of must-have photos before our big day, and they were able to capture everything and more! Van was very efficient and has a great eye. Israel was our second photographer and helped make sure the lighting was just right. My entire bridal party was comfortable with them as they captured special moments throughout the day. Something I really appreciate when it comes to vendors is how real they are. It's nice to talk to vendors who genuinely make a connection as someone who wants the best result for you, and not just someone you're hiring. My wife and I met Michael and Van at the San Jose bridal fair back in 2011. I approached Van asking him if they had done any hybrid Vietnamese and Filipino weddings and his respond was "of course!". He showed us some of the samples they had done through out the years and it looked awesome. We did not only wanted someone who can take good photos but also someone that knows the etiquette of our culture. We went with Michael's Wedding Group and requested that Van to be our main photographer on the wedding day. We took our engagement photos a couple months after hiring them and Michael and Sean was our photographer for the shoot. My husband and I used Michael's for our engagement and wedding photos, based on a recommendation from a friend. Our photographer was Sean, and we couldn't have been happier with him. Sean was extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout the whole process. He made us feel comfortable while taking photos and was good with children too. He also speaks Cantonese, which was great, because my mother-in-law pretty much only speaks Cantonese. He handled her like a professional and I was grateful for that. When we received our wedding pictures back, I was extremely happy with them. He and his assistant captured every single important moment at our wedding, provided some candid and some artistic photos in additional to the traditional wedding poses, and the photos made everyone look better than they do in person. I don't know how he did it, but he did. In terms of wedding photography, their prices seem to be mid-range. Their wedding photo packages are not super cheap, but not expensive either. They also give you the digital files, which is extremely important, because many photographers hold the files hostage and make you order expensive prints from them. This review is WAY long overdue... Anyhow, Michael's Wedding Group did a great job with both our engagement and wedding photos. We got our engagement photos within 6 weeks after our session and we were happy with the results of our pictures. On the day of our wedding, we worked with Van and Sean. They were both great at what they did. We had a full day photo session and they were there from 8am to 10/11pm at night. During the whole day they were busy capturing shot after shot of every detail of our event, from the time I was getting ready, to our Vietnamese ceremony, the church ceremony, bridal party shots, cocktail hour, guest entry photos, and reception. I felt like there was so much footage that it was like a video made into a photo slideshow. My husband and I were definitely happy with our pictures! After the event, we worked mostly Sean. He was quick at getting us our photos. We actually got them within 2 months on a disc. He worked with many of our photos to photoshop them, change lighting, adjust angles, etc. He was also VERY quick at responding to our emails! When it was time for our album to be made, we worked with Sue. Sean explained to us what we had to do for our album and how many pictures to choose and that Sue will take care of the rest. She did an awesome job putting our pictures together on the album to create a flow of events. Sue created backgrounds out of some of our pictures and somehow blended it all together with the other photos on the page. I ran in to Van from Michael's Wedding Group at the SF and SJ Bridal Fairs in 2010. Great vibes from the beginning, he was very approachable and friendly. I think that's what stuck out the most. While all the other photo vendors were being snobby, he was nice, easy to talk to, and funny even. Long story, short... We chose Michael's Wedding Group after we saw them at a Wedding Fair in Monterey and it was arguably the best decision we made regarding our wedding. Aside from them being wonderful at updating us, keeping us in the loop, and making sure we had a say (if we wanted to) in the creative process, it was also such a great value. The price for both photography and videography together was on par with some vendors for only ONE and not BOTH. Plus, they are so sweet and kind and it was a joy every time we had to go pick something up or drop something off. They are very warm and funny and I will always recommend them. We received great photos, 3 beautiful books, and a large print as well. The photos were wonderful and I loved them SO much. They were my favorite part of the whole day UNTIL we got the video back. Micheal, Sue and Sean! What an amazing group to work with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My fiance and I wanted to do a vintage photo shoot for our engagement shoot. There were lots of elements that needed to work flawlessly that day. For starters, I needed a location that would fit my ideas, I had no clue where to start but Sean did! He suggested Alviso, a place that I never wold have thought of myself. I had coordinated with a car club member to use his 65 (or 55 - can't remember) deluxe for the shoot and I wanted to be respectful of everyone's time. Sean and Michael were early to the shoot and didn't bother me with "time" they were really about achieving all the poses that I wanted and they came out AMAZING. Everyone loves them and the car club member asked that I give him copies for his garage! I loved the engagement photos SO much I decided to select them for our wedding, how could we not!! Video was also a huge desire of mine and as any bride can tell you, photography and videography is some of the largest expenses in a wedding and there are lots of "RULES" like time, printing, rights to prints... all that other red tape. I had no desire for any of that and MICHAELS WEDDING GROUP DELIVERED! As part of their normal protocol, there is NO time limit and they stay until you are HAPPY and after the event you get all your photos, rights to your photos...etc! Made my life incredibly EASY and the cost... UNBEATABLE! On our wedding day they did a phenomenal job, they showed up to the hotel where we were getting ready, early again.. took video and photos simultaneously and running so smoothly together in the background. At the church they were very contentious of where to stand, what the Catholic Church boundaries were in terms of disrupting mass and it made my day so much simpler not having to worry about any of that! They flawlessly captured the entire day, even down to the tinyest of details like the food that was served! What a great way to relieve the perfect day. They stayed until I was HAPPY and that was exactly what they asked... if there was any other photos I wanted, etc... Following the wedding, the communication was wonderful, quick responses, easy to work with and going above and beyond ALWAYS to achieve what you want and they have such and awesome sense of humor and great personalities! OMG. I don't think I could be any happier! We ran into Sean in SF while he was taking wedding photography of another couple.. and when he mentioned their company name, it rang a bell! I've heard of them many many years ago (so I know they've been in business for a LONG time).. and when I mentioned their company name to friends, we hear nothing but good things about them... how could we not go with them??! One of the main reasons I chose Sean was because he spoke Cantonese (great for my parents who are very shy about the little English they know). But at the end of the day, we really thought what we saw of his work was fantastic. He really worked with us & our timeline on when we needed him & what we needed him to do. He actually worked with us through timeline changes several times (within just the last week---no probably the last few days before the reception) Honestly, on the day of our reception (this past Saturday), Sean was the ONLY hired professional that I can say I'm 100% happy with. He was not only on time, but early and also helped ease stress for me. He didn't pressure us with time, didn't pressure us to keep things moving, basically he let things flow the way they did and took it as things came. In addition, my mom was demanding and wanted various shots taken.. but we were pressed for time, as we were already late for other reasons.. but he made sure to do as much as he could to please my mom & to make sure we went back into schedule as soon as we could.. (believe me, I would have flipped out at my mom if Sean wasn't kind enough to try to please her too) In addition, during the reception, he was super patient with our friends and family. We had friends who brought their own equipment and took photos as well (with flash and all that stuff--which could easily annoy a photographer). Sean was super professional and seemed to cared a great deal. I didn't really get a chance to talk too much with his assistant (Adrian?), but he seemed really friendly as well. Overall, I felt that Sean really cared and played more of a role in our wedding than just our photographer. The displays were very impressive and caught my eye right away. Pricing was mid range & the package we selected came with a great amount of things. We got an engagement session, with a CD of pics, full wedding day (2 locations and 2 photographers), one large photo book, 2 parent books, 1 16X20 print and a CD with over 900 pics and full rights. Sean did our engagement session and it was a blast! We chose AT&T ball park and he got some amazing photos. He was even nice enough to go with us over by the bay bridge so we can get some additional pics with the different background. The pics came out PERFECT. To be very straightforward, there is a difference between doing Caucasian and asian makeup. Especially around the eyes, and getting the right tone on the skin. Sue did a spectacular job on my hair and make-up for both my engagement shoot and wedding. She was professional, considerate, and accommodating. Originally, I was scheduled to come in at 9:30AM, but she was able to switch her appointments so that I could come in at 11AM for my 4PM wedding. I got many, many compliments on my hair and make-up; it looked great in photos, but I still looked and felt like myself. All I needed to do was show Sue a picture of what I wanted (it was a photo of a blond girl) and she made it happen, despite the fact that I have slick and straight hair. Her prices are reasonable and I really couldn't have asked for anything more. My hair and make-up lasted all night long through 2 additional dress changes and a lot of dancing. My wife and I contracted with Michael for a video of our wedding day including the reception. Throughout the process he was honest, forthcoming, and patient explaining the process. He also showed us videos of past works so we knew what to expect. The day of the wedding his team were diligent covering the entire ceremony with multiple cameras to get multiple points-of-view while not interfering with the ceremony. The reception was similarly covered. They made a great effort getting video of the surrounding area such that the final product would be polished and memorable. The video itself was very well edited. Michael did an outstanding and thorough job getting the music perfect and the video paced well. Michael's Wedding Group... No words to express their work. To begin with, they were so friendly, each of of them. Were very flexible too from the first meeting and till now. We had our engagement photo shoot scheduled 2 weeks ahead and on the day of shoot there was rain pouring, yet they picked up location indoor as well as outdoor so that we will have it the same day. We loved working with MIchael's Wedding Group! Our friend referred them to us while we were looking for wedding photographers. We had met with about 6 or 7 photographers, but hadn't really found any that we liked and fit in the budget. I was very impressed with their work when I met up with Sean. Simply beautiful. That is my first thought when I looked at my wedding pictures. I would highly recommend Michael's group. Whether you get Sean or Van as your photographer, your experience and photos will be fantastic. My wedding day went by really quickly, and I felt that I didn't get to see everything that was happening, this is where my pictures come into play. NOTHING will allow you to relive the day like beautiful pictures. I love my pictures so much I can't stop looking at them. Van (Vince) was our main photographer of the day, and he was awesome. Van from Michael's Wedding Group is awesome. He is very personable and works his hardest to make sure that you are happy with his services. I had emailed him a list of photos that I really wanted and he talked me through each of them and made sure to go down the list and shoot them all despite the craziness of the wedding. He made my shy husband feel more comfortable about getting his picture taken and was about as professional as they come. The wedding package that we got with them was reasonably priced and they made sure to show us that they wanted to earn our business, showing us many photos that were taken at weddings and engagement shoots as well as showing us how much editing and time they put into each photo by showing us the before and after shots. I bought a wedding package with Michael's that included a formal engagement shoot (with tux and rental wedding gown), videography and wedding photos. When I first worked with Michael and Sean during our engagement shoot, I was impressed by their demeanor and professionalism. They put my husband at ease and were able to pick up on little habits that we had while taking pictures, giving us tips on how to make our pictures look great. When we got our pictures back, all our friends and relatives loved the pictures. In the U.S., it is hard to find wedding photographers who go off site and take engagement shoots with wedding attire like Asian photographers. On our wedding day, the crew arrived on time at our hotel to help us take some "getting ready" pictures. They tried very much to stay in the background and also put us at ease. When we arrived at the venue, we had a huge list of pictures to take with our relatives and Van and Sean were very efficient to make sure we got through all of them. We even asked for a large group shot after the ceremony, which is no easy feat with 160+ people. During the ceremony and reception, we didn't feel like cameras were in our faces the whole time. I am looking forward to seeing the proofs and the videos but given my prior experience with our engagement photos, I have no doubt they will be wonderful. read more

We met with them in the beginning of the process to go over initial expectations and to review portfolios. We then met with them again the week before the wedding to go over a timeline and last minute details...which was very helpful since we knew what to expect. My husband and I searched long and hard for the perfect wedding photographer (we also wanted video).. we wanted someone more creative that really captured the moment not just point and shoot pictures. That is exactly what we got with Michael's Wedding Group!! We ABSOLUTELY loved them and it was one of the best experiences of our entire wedding - as it should be... the pictures and video are all you have to remember the day by. Our engagement session was so easy to schedule and we had Sean take our pictures. Them came out amazing - and they are very prompt in editing and getting everything back to you. We got a disk will all the pictures so we could make copies. Same for our wedding.. it has been 8 weeks since our wedding and we went through the holidays and i just got a disk with all our pictures today. they are GORGEOUS. Michael was our wedding photographer and Sean did the video. You barely tell they are there and they capture all the best moments! I cannot wait for our wedding album. Michael's Wedding Group is professional, fun, and AMAZING. I would never suggest that you get wedding pictures from anyone other than them! Michael and Sean were awesome. Very down to earth and easy to talk to. They worked with us in detail to make sure we covered all of our wedding day photo plans. They take all the traditional shots plus a few wild ones to mix it up. As a videographer again they were on point, never out of position. Our wedding photos and video turned out great. Also they are very affordable compared to other studios. They will work within your budget. Several months after our wedding we saw Michael in town and he approached us to chat. It felt good to know that we were not just customers but friends long after. We've since referred three of our friends to them and all of them were as pleased as us. A friend referred me to Michael's Photography and I'm so thankful. Had a consultation with Michael and his graphic designer wife, Sue but unfortunately Michael was booked. Instead, their other photographer, Van was available so we hired them for the day. I met Michael and his crew at a relative's wedding and took his card. They were all patient and nice. It has been wedding bliss since then. I paid more than the other review listed for wedding pictures and videography but it's ok he was worth every penny. It is also a good idea if you're going to do photos and video to do them together with one person. They did wonderful things with then together on a DVD. We planned for a budget friendly wedding and I planned to spend the most of our budget on photos and food. this worked out great. His pictures were amazingly beautiful and creative. He even gave the negatives of the edited photos to make copies later. My favorite is the ones that are black and white with a splash of color. Michel has it all. read more

Sean and Sue were awesome and super easy to talk to and very friendly. I booked our photography and videography services with Michael's Wedding Group, specifically Sean for our wedding in April 2012. He was amazing to work with and he took amazing photos. Every photo that was given to us on the DVD, we absolutely loved! We are still anxiously waiting to see how beautiful the video and photo-book will turn out. Just based on how the photos turned out and how the moments were captured, I have no doubts the rest will turn out beautifully. He knew which moments to captured in full detail and even up close and personal. It means so much that he understood how a Chinese wedding went. Further, the pictures he took, traditional and the funny ones were awesome! Just the mood that my husband and I wanted. The other photographers seemed too serious and Sean had the perfect amount of humor to take the pictures that we envisioned. They asked many questions to understand the details of our hectic wedding day and was very accommodating when things get delayed. They were also very accommodating with budget and worked with us to create a customized package that we can afford. It was definitely a pleasure working with them, and I am hoping to corroborate with them more in the future. My family hired Michael's Wedding Group for my brother's wedding at the Mt. Winery in Saratoga. Michael and his team did a phenomenal job on the photographs! They captured every little detail and decoration, and more than that, every special moment of the bride and groom and our guests. His photography style is soft, with the use of lots of light, and very natural; there's a combination of photojournalistic and posed photography, so he can pretty much do whatever you'd like. The wedding was an Indian one, so there were tons of little details to document, and various rituals to photograph as well - Michael and his team captured everything perfectly. Pricing (especially package pricing for photographs & videography) is very competitive, and Michael is great about putting together a package that makes sense for you (for example, we didn't feel the need to have an album but wanted all the digital photos). Last, but not in the least, Michael, and his wife, Sue, are extraordinarily responsive and will get back to your emails and inquiries within a few hours. They have flexible meeting times on weekday evenings and weekends and will make themselves available for in-person meetings or calls whenever needed.
