I've trained with Michelle for just over a year. Had she not moved out of California, I'd probably be working with her for at least the next 5 years! When I first started working with Michelle, I was feeling out of shape and lacked confidence. Over the course of my time working with her, she helped me to get stronger and feel great. I have been training with Michelle since May 2019. Prior to this, I was in physical therapy for upper back issues. Over the past year and a half, Michelle has been instrumental in my journey of recovery, improved physical fitness, and increased strength. She started with a detailed assessment of where I was and we were able to progressively make measurable improvements in my strength, general fitness, and ultimately, my health. My sessions with Michelle included one-on-one as well as group settings. Even in a group, she would tailor the workouts to suit our individual abilities and offer a high level of personal attention. All this was before COVID-19. During this pandemic, personal training has shifted to Zoom. Compared to the gym we used to use, I had no exercise equipment. Michelle adapted. I took entirely too long to write this review!!! I would recommend Michelle to anyone without a second's hesitation. She gives you SO much more than just a personal trainer would! I trained with Michelle a little under a year with my primary goal being weight loss. I didn't achieve weight loss (I was gaining muscle), but the other benefits I got were so much more than I could have ever expected. I did her mindset and nutrition coaching and it was beyond worth it. I went into this thinking I already had a healthy diet and BOY did I learn a lot lol. I guess I should give some backstory as to my journey before Michelle. I had personal trainers in the past that pushed me super hard to the point where I didn't want to go back to them. I had reservations about picking up another trainer because of my past experiences but when my dieting progress came to a halt I knew I needed to add exercise in to keep going. Michelle quickly showed me she wasn't like all those other trainers I had before. She was very understanding and always checked in on how I was feeling before each session. If I had high energy she'd give me more challenging tasks, if I was low energy she would adjust my plan accordingly. Other trainers push you to get you to do more, Michelle makes her atmosphere so calm and positive that you want to push yourself to do more. (I hope that makes sense!) I always looked forward to sessions with her because I felt so amazing afterward and I quickly started seeing progress. I was lifting more, tiring less, and my overall energy improved tenfold. As for the mindset coaching, I always thought I was an optimistic/positive person, but Michelle helped me realize how much negative language I actually had with myself. With her guidance and training, I actually was able to conquer most of my daily anxiety. As for the gym, she's currently operating out of Cooper Sports Performance. They are a small privately owned gym and the only people there are with trainers. It's a very focused, calm, positive and clean environment. All of the staff and trainers there are super friendly as well. But I think the true benefits have been after my training ended. She taught me ultimately to be kind and patient with myself, which has paid off more than I can possibly write in a review, but it's allowed me to keep up my motivation. Before if I fell off the horse either with diet or exercise, I would tell myself "why can't you just get this right. It isn't that hard. Why even try anymore you're just going to fail again" to now "it's ok. This happens. Just remember how you felt when you were doing good. You can get back to it again because you've done it before!" I could probably go on for days about all the good I've gotten in my life from this experience! But I'll spare you reading :) If you're on the fence, do it! You'll gain so much with her! :) I've lost almost a full 2 inches off my thighs, an inch around my waist, I feel SO much better, I can move better and tire less quickly, I'm nicer to myself and know how to check in on how I'm doing mentally and physically. read more

When I started my search for a trainer I had a horrible mental image of being screamed at while doing endless burpees and possibly throwing up and crying. I started off with an email inquiry. In that email I made it clear that I was interested in training to get stronger but not diet advice. I know many trainers consider themselves nutrition experts but they're not. Just because you know what to eat to keep weight down or what to eat to build muscle that becomes visible in a specific way, again, doesn't make you a Nutritionist or a Dietician. When we spoke on the phone after this inquiry the first issue was she confused me with someone else. Apparently two people had inquired of her services near the same time. Didn't love that as it didn't make me feel valued as a potential client, and how hard is it to keep a mere two people straight? Even though I'd already set the boundary in my email inquiry of not wanting nutrition advice and already said that I was dealing with that on my own, she brought it up anyway, pushing me to explain what my 'plan' was for dealing with that side of things! Uhhh...my 'plan' is just that, MY plan and not your concern. Crazy as it sounds there do exist in the world, people like me who want to work out for reasons other than weight, and that's why I was there. In addition to her pushing the food topic there was another troubling aspect of the phone call. I shared a personal health diagnosis with her as I felt it was relevant to a potential fitness plan, and she proceeded to grill me on how I'm dealing with it, and aggressively pushing multiple types of advice on me. She is NOT a doctor and has NO business advising people on their disorders/diseases, even if she has experience with something similar. Her tone was completely condescending, speaking as if she knew what was better for me and what I needed more than me and my doctor do. The nerve! Ultimately, trainers need to remember that people have all sorts of relationships and struggles with food out there, and that they are in no place to handle that, and it's not their business no matter how much they'd like it to be. It's different if someone is prepping for a bodybuilding competition or something, but most people are not. Food advice should only be given if someone asks, and if they tell you that they don't want to talk about their diet, than back off and respect that. And I can't believe I even have to say this but they also have absolutely NO business giving medical advice. Even doctors have no business giving people medical advice who aren't their patients. read more

I have been training with Michelle for a little over 6 months now. It's something that I look forward to every week not only because Michelle gets my booty in shape but she is totally fun to be around. I started working with Michelle July 16th, 2018. Best decision !! As an overweight 50+ something lady, I had let my bad nutrition habits take over and my weight reflected that. Walking up the stairs at BART made me huff and puff, and the thought of having to "live at the gym" doing cardio to reverse this and find health and lose weight, was daunting. I've learned more tweaks on my eating which has really helped, how to add healthy protein to meals, and what to eat in between meals to keep energy up and blood sugars level and not be hungry. The accountability is really helpful. To track what you do, eat and how you are feeling, all helps her, help you. Have I lost weight? YES! Have I lost inches? YES! Michelle is the type of trainer that I have been searching for, and when I say "searching" I really mean that. In the past I've experienced a long fitness journey (over 8 years) of trying out so many different programs, diets (both medical and fad), and workouts. Michelle really is a one-stop-shop for me because she has combined the physical, nutritional, and mental aspects to living a healthy life and has tailored them to suit my goals. It is so comforting to finally have my mind, body, and spirit on a good track for once. Michelle specializes in strength training, fat loss, body recomposition, and functional training. She does personal training, distance training, as well as health coaching. My husband and I have been training with her for a few months now, and we both see her at different times so she can individualize our training and health coaching. Since we are incorporating health coaching into our program Michelle has a weekly 30-minute conference call with each of us to check in with how our body is responding to the workouts and eating habits. These calls really help because it keeps us going in the right direction, and for myself, it keeps me in a positive head space. Michelle really is available to us 24/7, all lines of communication are open to us, and she encourages us to call or text her if we ever need her. I especially love how Michelle is not afraid to use technology and the apps on our phones to keep track of what we are doing. The accountability of our program is like no other that I have experienced, I really feel like she is with us each step of the way. Another stand out thing that I love about Michelle is before each one of my sessions, she always asks what my energy level is. The reason being is I have a thyroid issue and some days my energy level is just not there. She understands the importance of not overworking your central nervous system; she knows that at times your body is capable of handling a super tough workout and that other times you have to take it easy. She not only helps with exercises but also guides us with proper nutrition, supplements and even helped me with planning my workout routine for the days when i don't have a session with her. I joined Michelle a few months back when I had hit a plateau with my workout routine. I was recovering from a bad knee injury which restricted my movements and I had put on a few lbs as a result. I started working out with Michelle since March 2016 and I have lost 30 lbs to-date (or 2 lbs/week). I tell my family and friends that I attribute this achievement to her great coaching skills, and she's a terrific motivator. Not only is she very meticulous on her methods (she actually times me "every second" from start to finish), but she also has a wealth of knowledge on nutrition. I learned what type of foods to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had my annual physical check-up two weeks ago (which I dread of going every year) and my doctor was astounded of my results. She told me that I'm her ideal patient as ALL my lab results came out normal. I was borderline diabetic for several years (A1C of 6.6), and now I'm completely normal. My doctor cut down 1 of my 2 BP meds. Cholesterol is at 135. My sciatica nerve pain (lower back pinched nerve) has also diminished by her recommended stretching techniques that I initially did not like (or even hate), but now I actually do it on a daily basis. I think it's time to update my review. It is now less than a year from my original review and I continue making amazing progress with Michelle's help. I am no longer a gym rookie so my perspective has changed. I no longer get excited just because I lost another pound. Now it's more about knowing your body, growing muscle, gaining power, and feeling energetic. Michelle had made me reconsider my nutrition habits and now I reap the benefits of that like crazy! She is seriously knowledgeable in this area and I, myself an avid and adventurous cook, trust her nutritional advice with no hesitation. Simply because I see that advice working.
