    Chorizo torta. It's big!
    Michelle W.

I had walked past this place many times and always assumed that it was a regular hole-in-the-wall coffee shop. Boy was I wrong! It's legit for Mexican food. They have a hand-written menu on the wall: tortas, tostadas, tacos, tamales. It's pretty solid! The torta was huge and despite ordering it to go and walking home, the bread stayed crisp (always a plus!). I ordered the chorizo torta. The bread is nice a crusty and the whole sandwich held up well and didn't get soggy at the end (but then again, I ate it pretty quickly) Only a couple of issues that has kept it a 3 star experience: the chorizo had lumps in it, like I'd occasionally bit into something that was a bit harder (??)...Also, I would have liked the chorizo to be a tad bit more flavorful. I'd be interested in going back to try try tamales which are supposed to be fab, and perhaps another torta of a different variety.

My husband just wanted a coffee. We decided to grab a little to eat after we came in and saw that they served food. My spouse got a wrap of some sort, which he devoured. I wasn't in the mood for Mexican food but my breakfast bagel sandwich (bacon, egg, and cheese) was good. Cheap meal, nice and friendly service.

These tamales are my favorite lunchtime treat, and the tortas are huge and cheesy and delicious. Get there early before tamales sell out!

There is something they put in that sauce that makes is delectable, and servings were huge! The pierogis and kraut and kielbasa also were out of this world. So reminiscent of what my Polish family made. What makes Sophia's exceptional to me, though: I ordered a bunch of of food for my family in Baltimore; we had a death in the family and people were coming from all over the country for the funeral. I thought some good ol' Polish comfort food would be good for everyone. Not only was the food phenomenal, Tom the owner and his staff took exceptional care of me and my family. Tom delivered the food himself, ran back with something he forgot and stayed and talked to my family for a bit. They said how great he was and they enjoyed meeting him, and several want to order from Sophia's Place and have the food shipped. I HIGHLY recommend Sophia's Place and will make a point of going back there next time I'm in Baltimore. You should too!

We ordered the Chicken Jack and a Cheeseburger with fries and a Sprite. Both sandwiches were large, satisfying, and hit the spot perfectly. Just a heads-up: no free drink refills. The business has moved around within the building over the decades, but this current spot in Broadway Market is a great home. Authentic food, classic Baltimore vibes, and genuinely kind people. I...was not mad at the trip, but probably wouldn't come back. The staff was nice. I accidentally dropped my change on the floor without noticing and staff ensured that what belonged to me was returned! Also, when I received my bag I left.. crossed the street and wound up returning to the store after one of the staff members yelled for me across the street to come back to get the second half of my wrap! Now as nice as both of those things were, the food was not worth the circling back. The wrap was sloppily made, with my sauces running through the paper, and my fries weren't fully cooked. I wish I could say it was better but honestly, there was a lot of pictures and promo surrounding their cheesesteaks and/or their crab cake platters and I didn't get either of those, so... maybe next time.

Savory: I ordered a sandwich on the cheese and jalapeno chimney cake. I thought it was a great balance and ratio of the fillings to bread. And the chimney cake was moist. Definitely very pleasurable to eat. Sweet; I ordered the coconut one with sweet cream.. I was surprised that the sweet cream came as a side not actually filled in. I found it a little hard, and Kn curious if it'd of tasted better if I ate it right away. I wish it was same texture as the savory one. The sweet cream had the sweet salty flavor, which i know some people love. I just wasn't a big fan of it. Overall, I'm glad I tried and would def try again.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly, and the cozy, homey vibe immediately stood out. There are just a few small tables, which makes it feel extra welcoming and intimate. We ordered the Italian sandwich with jalapeño and cheese bread, and wow -- the bread was amazing! Perfectly baked and full of flavor. Definitely recommend adding the chipotle dipping sauce. I don't usually like chipotle sauces, but my husband ordered it and after one taste, I wished I had my own. We also tried the crepes, and they were fantastic. You can tell they're freshly made and homemade with care. I got the Nutella, strawberry, and walnut -- highly recommend the walnut! It's finely minced and mixed into the crepe, which adds the perfect texture and flavor. The only thing I wish they offered was a fresh fruit topping option like chopped strawberries or bananas. Overall, I highly recommend this spot. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and it's such a great addition to the neighborhood. Can't wait to come back!
