Today, I tried a new place to get my hair styled.Michiana Beauty College, the place was clean and everyone was great. Ashley, listened to what I was looking for, I explained to her my hair is my everything. Showed her a picture and her trainer. Both were kind, professional. I got just what I wanted it was worth the $9.35 I spent to get my hair done. And of course I gave her a tip. So if you are thinking of getting your hair done call and schedule an appointment with them these ladies need all the training they need and you don't pay an arm and a leg for it. read more

There was no supervision. I learned later the student had never given a perm. THE worst: There was NO SUPERVISION, NO TRAINING IN VIVO. I did not ask for a spiral curl, have never had one. I wanted body and waves. WHAT I got is OVER PROCESSED DRY STRAIGHT HAIR. After putting in all those rollers, and then PULLING them out while I yelled OUCH (omigod she pulled them, didn't unwrap them!) ONLY to find-- she had not put the neutralizer on which locks in the curl. THE entire wrapping and processing with chemicals had to be redone. AND it didn't work. NEVER at the time of redoing did the 'teacher' look at the work!! I will not fault the student, I knew it was a student and have always had such positive experiences at Elkhart Area Community Center where HIGH SCHOOL juniors and seniors are brilliantly supervised, get extra hints and training as they do anything-even facials! This was a very expensive lesson, one of which is to look at yelp reviews before I allow this to happen. To any students thinking of enrolling : YOU will not be given proper supervision nor training. To anyone thinking of getting rid of your money, give it to a dog rescue, cancer research, ...don't have your hair wrecked by MBC ... aargh... there's a place to attach photos. I understand that this is a college and students are learning, but I paid $22 for my daughter's gel manicure. There was paint around the skin of her fingers on every finger. I went back in and asked if they could clean it up and was told to have her soak it in warm water at home to clean it up. TWO days later all of the polish has peeled off. Regular manicures last longer than that! Every time I've had a gel polish manicure I've had to go back into the salon to have them removed when I was done. read more

I visited the College today. Had an appointment with Lyndsey. She gave me a very good pedicure. She disinfected everything before she started. She so wore a mask. The pedicure was very professional. I enjoyed it. Next I had a facial which I also had an appointment for. Same as pedicure. Everything was sanitized. It was very relaxing. She took her time and did a very good job. read more

I tried to go in to get a basic manicure at 4pm. I barely made it through the door when I was informed that they were actually closed. I said I went online and it says you are open until 5. She said well actually we stop at 1 for chemical treatments, 3:30 for facials. I did not even get to say what I was interested in. Also if you are closed, turn the sign to closed on the door and update your website. I have frequented 4 other beauty schools in the past, I know what to expect but I will not even be attempting to come back here after how I was shut down. She didn't even try and schedule me an appointment for another day. I felt like she was just wanting me to hurry up and leave so she could go back to gossiping. Update: I was promptly contacted by the school and offered an apology, and was told that the students at the front desk would be informed so that they could learn from the interaction. read more

Michiana Beauty College is very hit or miss depending on the student. I would recommend asking for a student who's been "on the floor" longer or enjoys doing nails. My nail technician told me that she didn't like doing pedicures; in fact, after beauty college, she's planning to go back to school to become a dental hygienist. After my manicure- she announced that she would also be doing my pedicure (nice!). Three days later, my gel manicure and pedicure are already chipping. Also, be prepared to spend time. A gel manicure and pedicure took me two hours; the woman next to me was there for 2 hours 45 minutes and was having her gel manicure re-done. Some of the students are fantastic and very enthusiastic (and then there are some who just don't care). read more

I was assured that I would get someone experienced this time but I got someone still in high school that has only been a student since August and is part time. All in all, this review is in no fault to that student as she did try very hard and is still learning as with all of the girls here. That being said -- she was much faster than the first girl that I had. Overall - Pedicure was extremely sloppy. Gel Manicure - sloppy but better. The worst part was not the polish job but rather the very bad filing. Uneven, scratchy; and not smooth. Cuticles are not tended to, clippers aren't used, and no foot scrubber is used during the pedicure. read more

While the ladies were friendly, the services did not live up to their advertising or price point (as low as one might view it). The adverts all say work is supervised by a licensed instructor. No. No it was not. My two friends and I got manis and pedis. Not once did a supervisor stop by to observe our students' work. Our student manicurist told us they weren't allowed to use "nail clippers" unless they were RN ( yes, a Registered Nurse) certified. Ummmmmmmmmm really? So my poor friend who hates constant nail filing (as opposed to fast and effective clipping) had stress and goosebumps for a good 15 minutes of nonstop filing! Again--AN RN DEGREE FOR NAIL CLIPPING? Beyond that--my polish job was sloppy. I had to remove it a day later. The pedicure was $20 for a portable foot bath tub in a chair that you had to slouch forward in during both the mani and pedi . Appalled by their lack of cultural competency. All management and leadership proved to be rude and insensitive. I asked to have my hair braided. After being told to arrive by 2, I did just that. I was then told by the desk manager upon arrival that I was too late for their 4 p.m. closing deadline. After asking to speak with their manager, she approved reinstating my appointment. By then it was approaching 2:30. In the interest of time, the desk manager instructed the student to braid my hair WITHOUT WASHING IT. I was stunned. I've frequented hair schools around the country and have never encountered such lack of hygiene and care for the customer. I let them know I'd be writing this review. Months later, I've kept my word because I've never forgotten how they made me feel as a woman of color -- like my unique hair needs were an inconvenience. read more

Rating based on mani/pedi...have not had any other services performed. If I could give a rating of less than one star, I would. I made an appointment for a mani pedi. When I checked in, the front desk person told the student that I was there and she rolled her eyes at me. My nails were not clipped and given a partial file - not even or smooth. Part of the treatment was a Paraffin dip. The wax was too hot and burned my hands and was not removed completely. The instructor came over and informed me that is was not too hot - that it was just fine. When she painted my nails, it looked horrible and started to peel off. She said that it was because my nails were covered in wax. I requested that she remove the polish. She left my nails stained and did not remove the polish completely... Overall, a really bad experience and I will not go back. BEWARE! read more

So I went in there with a friend to get our hair done around 10 AM because I was told by one of the students that they were all good and it was cheaper. We both decided to get haircuts and our hair dyed. It took the girl 4 HOURS to do my friends hair and she was just getting her hair dyed dark brown to cover her highlights and a trim and some bangs, while doing so she revealed to her that she was her first client ever! That being said, her hair came out looking nothing like the picture she had showed her and more so like an 80's mullet. She was very upset and late for work because she had told the girl she had to leave at a certain time and she kept her half an hour past that. She then told me to sit in her chair, while she brought her manager over to me and said that they couldn't color my hair because it was past 12:30 and they don't dye hair after that time. That made me really mad because I WAITED FOR 4 HOURS...like they couldn't have said that to me while i was sitting there waiting???? anyway, I stormed out of there and went to the salon across the street where everything was done perfectly and timely. 0/10 recommend. read more

Michiana Beauty College is a school, run by lazy and incompetent directors who, in my year+ being there never even touched anyones hair and only popped up to "help" when they want a service done. I was told when I signed up, I didn't need a cosigner. Lie. I was told when my mom didn't get approved, she wasn't going to be held responsible. Lie. I got sick and grew cancerous tumors to the point I needed surgery and procedures round the clock for almost a year. They would not accept doctors notes and charged me $50+ for every day. A student teacher was responsible for at least 75% of my education. If you want to get screwed royally, go there. read more

Went for a mani pedi. The gal doing my nails didn't have all of the equipment. (asked if I wanted a foot scrub or callus filed because she didn't have the brush or pedi smoother). Why not get another from the desk.....they didn't have anymore either. NOT ONCE did an instructor check on her work. Her paint job was horrific, my 4 year old could have done the same job. I get that they are students but why are there not instructors coaching them on how and what to do! read more

Horrible. Though everyone is nice, I did not get what is included with a mani/pedi and the gal was using OLD polish and was not understanding why it wasnt going on smoothly. That did not stop her from reapplying over and over again to try and make it work...seriously?! First and last time ever. Go to a professional, and hopefully were not trained here. read more

I was trying to find an inexpensive place to go to have my nails done for my wedding. I stumbled upon Michiana Beauty College's website and decided to give it a try. According to their website, they do acrylic nails and pedicures. When my mom and I arrived, we were told they no longer do acrylics and can only paint your nails. They do not use nail clippers, but will file your nails. We sit down and the girls bring over tubs with water in them. This is what your feet go in. I asked for french tips on my toes and the girl told me no problem. When she was done it looked like a 3 year old had painted my nails. Actually a 3 year old probably would have done a better job. Halfway through my mom getting her nails done, the girl gets up and walks away. She left to attend her friend's graduation ceremony in the back of the building. We waited 20 minutes for the girl to return. At that point I was about ready to finish my mom's nails myself. Needless to say the service was terrible and we will not be back. read more
