This is a great option for getting to and from the Detroit airport. On a recent trip, we used the Flyer to go from Ann Arbor. At the time of this review, it was $15 per person. It was inexpensive (compared to Uber or taxis), clean, comfortable, and punctual. The driver was professional and friendly. The ride is comfortable and clean. The bus also has wifi and outlets for charging your phones. The pickup spot for Ann Arbor is conveniently at the transportation center downtown Ann Arbor. read more

Michigan Flyer is the only sensible way to go to and from the Lansing area to Detroit Metropolitan airport. The price is right. Service is reliable. And they don't crash. I have friends who lost thousands of dollars on their flight when they became no-shows after having a collision in their private car on the way to DTW. Three people died in crash on I-96 early this year after two of them drove to pick up a relative. The two didn't have to go at all, and the air traveler would have been safe on the Michigan Flyer. The Marriott Hotel terminus in East Lansing is a great place to meet someone, and to park. Leo's Coney Island in the building is a convenient way to get a meal if you need one before or after the trip. Michigan Flyer's office is upstairs in the Marriott if you need help (during their office hours) What I appreciate most is that I can use the Flyer at times of day (such as 3:00 AM) when I couldn't drive myself. So I get a bigger choice of flights by using the Michigan Flyer. And Mike...YOU will give the Michigan Flyer another chance? YOU were late. An aircraft would not have held the door open for two minutes. Always consider flight delays in your plans. read more

The driver got triggered because I offered my screen for scanning the QR code. He just took off even before I had a chance to talk. And by the time he was done, I was done too. He then went and got a manager who started a well-rehearsed lecture about how the flyer is like TSA. The Flyer has been mostly good but today it plumbed every depth there was to plumb. My ambivalence about using it instead of a car has been settled. I hate having to deal with folks with zero class. read more

Most affordable way to get to and from DTW from Ann Arbor! $12 bucks each way, $10 if you book it super early. On the way to the airport, they give a cute message which is similar to that of a flight attendants. I've had no problems so far with arriving on time to the aiport. For the return trip, if it's sold out, I would say worth the effort if your schedule aligns to see if you can be on standby. read more

The best way to get to Detroit Metro airport. I live in Shisawasse county and was flying out of DTW. The round trip cost on Michigan Flyer from and to.East Lansing was $54.00. We would have (almost) spent that in gas for the round trip, and if I had left a car in airport parking for a week?! No contest! Have used Michigan Flyer in the past to get to DWT and back to East Lansing with no problems. Last December I my plane was scheduled to come in from California to DTW at 7:50 pm. My flight was delayed in California and did not land in DTW until 9:00pm. As I am a senior solo traveler and was requiring wheelchair assistance to get to baggage claim and to catch the last outgoing Michigan Flyer bus that was scheduled to leave DTW at 10:00pm, time was short. While waiting for my luggage I ask the airport attendant who was assisting me to go let the Michigan Flyer bus driver know my flight was delayed and just waiting for my baggage and could they wait a few minutes so I could catch the bus back to East Lansing. In the meantime I also tried calling the Michigan Flyer office to let them know my flight was delayed, but just got the answering machine at the office as it was closed for the night. So that was no help. I got my luggage at 9:50 pm. I was taken up to the Michigan Flyer pick up area and arrived at that door at 10:02pm, but the bus had departed. I had to call an Uber to take me back to East Lansing. When we arrived at the Michigan Flyer drop off location the Michigan Flyer bus was just pulling up. So I had to spend an extra $150 to get me home from DWT. I will be giving Michigan Flyer another chance this July as I will again be going out to California and using the same Delta nonstop flight as before and hopefully my flight won't be delayed and the Michigan Flyer bus won't leave me stranded. read more

When I found out about Michigan Flyer I was thrilled that my family from Ann Arbor area didn't have to travel to the airport to pick me up. All of the drivers I've had the pleasure to ride with for the past 4 years have been fantastic, but I would like to especially call out Crystal, who was my amazing and friendly driver on 9/13/24. I had a terrible experience taking the flyer over the Thanksgiving Holliday. I had used it once before, and my experience was good, so I thought I would try again. Little did I know that it would be loaded with MSU students who were rude and many coughing like they had Pnuemonia. Evidently there are no rules that passengers need to adhere to like"If you are ill, wear a mask" or do not take up two seats, as all passengers have paid for a seat, and deserve a place to sit. So my last trip I flew Lansing to DTW, and it was a much better experience-I compared the price vs. the flyer, and it was just a few bucks more. I would say that you should never take it at a time when students are off !! read more

I don't know what I'd do without the Michigan Flyer Air Ride! This is an incredible service that is offered between East Lansing, Ann Arbor, and the Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). The first time I took the Michigan Flyer, I couldn't believe how comfortable the seats were, that they provided complimentary water bottles on board, and that Wifi was available for free. I felt like I was riding in first class compared to the plane I had just left where all of these amenities seem to be "upgrades" rather than standard airline offerings. In my experience, the buses have left from DTW airport on time and when my flight was delayed, I was able to catch the next scheduled bus. I take airport shuttles quite often when I travel, and it is standard for buses to leave at their scheduled departure time so Yelpers shouldn't be surprised that the Michigan Flyer also sticks to their schedule. But fret not, if your flight is delayed they will accommodate you at no additional cost on the next bus. One word of caution: The buses leave PROMPTLY from the Blake Terminal in Ann Arbor. I arrived just a minute after the scheduled departure time and the bus was getting ready to depart. Once all passengers have boarded, the bus is taking off - with or without you if you're running late. Another tip: I always check the Michigan Flyer schedule when I'm booking my flights to make traveling to/from the airport easier (if I can help it!). The last pick up from the airport is 10:15PM and first one isn't until 6:10AM so there's another reason to avoid taking the red eye to DTW. read more

I live in New York City but am from Michigan originally so I go home often but can't drive. I am so glad that the Michigan flyer exists now. Before, my poor mother had to make two two-hour trips to pick me up and drop me off at the DTW airport (and risk her life driving in the Michigan snow!). Now, all my mom has to do is drive up to the Meijer 15 minutes from our house. I've had bad experiences with coach buses such as Greyhound in the past. However, the Michigan Flyer is clean, gives you a free water bottle, has free decent wifi, and professional and lovely drivers. I was so pleasantly surprised and relieved! Plus - it's much safer to be a passenger in a big bus in the wintertime than my mother's Honda Accord (thanks again mom for braving the elements for your daughter). I hope more folks use the Michigan Flyer more and it leads to more great public transportation Michigan so desperately needs. Oh and now as a bonus I can make trips to Ann Arbor and East Lansing without spending $80.00 on a cab or begging my friends to make a two-hour roundtrip to come get me. I've usually had excellent service. But this time was not so nice. My bus arrived, and the doors didn't open to let anyone in or out. So I stood and waited. Every experience I've had, the driver has some type of break time before letting passengers in. He appeared to be reading from what I could see. Once 7:15 boarding time came, instead of opening the doors, he drove off. The next bus is 3 hours.. I called Michigan Flyer, and explained what happened. the manager called me back, and kindly excused everything that happened. I was told the bus driver didn't see anyone flag him down as he drove off.... Im not sure about anyone else. But when bus doors do not open, it means it's not time to board, or that it's out of service. He could have simply opened the doors, but he never did. They don't give refunds. And left me to feel I was to blame unfortunate experience. Im writing this as I sit another 3 hours and 30 minutes for the next bus. read more

The bus is always on time unless there's traffic, which is not something the company can control. The drivers are courteous, professional and safe. And best of all they are very accommodating. One trip I accidentally scheduled one bus later than I was intending. I realized my mistake as I was waiting in the Meijer parking lot in Brighton 12 minutes before the scheduled time. I called and the Dispatcher and she was very friendly and helpful. She was able to contact the driver and have the bus swing in and pick me up. That's service! I use this service quite often and highly recommend it if you're traveling to and from DTW Metro. read more

The background: Luxury Bus Shuttle service between Detroit Airport and Ann Arbor. The details: I came from California in the dead of winter for an interview without a clue in my mind about how to navigate between Detroit and Ann Arbor (University of Michigan). I had to find an affordable ($15 one way) and safe way between the airport and my hotel near UM versus forking over maybe $80-100 for an hour cab ride to the airport. I am SO THANKFUL for Michigan flyer! Reliable, on time and courteous. Very easy to use - you just go online, book your ticket, go to the pickup location. Drop off your bag, get on, take a nap or use the wifi and an hour later you're at the airport! The ride is very smooth, I usually get car sick and I had no problem. The Verdict: If i ever find myself in Ann Arbor again I would be more than happy to use Michigan Flyer! They saved me a lot of anxiety about catching my flight and were so easy to use! read more

So much better than taking a taxi or town car into Ann Arbor. Taxi/town car rates were about $60 for a one way trip! I was a walk on and paid $15 cash. Online reservations are $12 for one way, and $22 round trip. I asked to be dropped off at Kensington since it's only a mile from my hotel. There's free water, plugs to charge your phones, and plenty of seating. They have wifi on the bus but I really don't need it! Such a great option for transportation! Check online for bus schedules. If you like driving in congested airport traffic, paying a fortune for parking and carrying your luggage for a half mile or more to the terminal, Michigan Flyer is not for you. But if you want a relaxing ride ( not drive ) between Lansing and Detroit Metro, and you want to pay as little as possible, and you don't mind being dropped off right at the terminal doors, you really need to use the Michigan Flyer. Dave was our driver from the airport and Mark was our driver to the airport. Both were friendly and helpful. Total roundtrip cost was $54. I live half a mile from ATL and we have nothing like this kind of service. Michiganders are lucky. read more

I don't know where to let my chips lie on this gamble because that's exactly what this bus feels like - a gamble. All the times I've taken it, it has arrived and departed on time. Actually, it's departed EARLY, leaving me and my partner stranded at the airport for another hour. Why did we miss it? Well, when it is freezing outside, there is no tolerable place to wait for the bus except for inside the terminal. They don't wait for more than 5 minutes at the bus stop so if you see the bus pull up, by the time you get to the stop, it's leaving you behind. Extremely frustrating. The other gamble, as others have mentioned, is the so-called on-bus free wifi. It comes and goes as it pleases. And even when it comes to visit, it is a nasty guest, taking up all your time as it loads slowly. And finally, the schedule varies between once an hour and once every other hour. WHY? I always hit the time when I either have to go an hour earlier or wait an extra hour. I need my beauty sleep (trust me, you don't wanna mess with it). For the most part, though, the pick-ups and drop-offs between Ann Arbor and DTW are fairly routine. The bus drivers are for the most part friendly and informative. There's free bottled water directly behind the bus driver. And the bus is clean. But if I can get some poor sap to give me a ride instead, I'd much rather pay them the 15 bucks in gas to go direct. read more

Not safe!We called to make sure masks were mandatory and they said they were then we got there and asked the bus driver if everyone would be wearing a mask and she said they would. We got on and no one was wearing a mask. Some people near us over heard us talking about it and put on their mask but others did not. My wife and I were traveling with our 5 year old who can't be vaccinated. The driver made a lengthy safety speech but said nothing about masks! All she had to do is say that masks are mandatory and have a few signs up! Sooo the website said people would be masked, the person on the phone said the same and the driver said it too??? They need to tell their drivers to just make a simple announcement. I am writing this on the bus and am considering getting my family off and taking a cab the rest of the way to the airport read more

This system never lets me down. I was in the process of moving from Ann Arbor to Lansing and this bus system changed my life when I was without a car. It allowed me too be comfortable in the coach traveling from work to home and also allowed me to enjoy a few drinks at dinner as I didn't have to drive home. This is such a wonderful company, they're always on time and have great customer service. I cannot express enough how kind their staff all are - they're patient, understanding and courteous. One gentleman even helped me find my wallet when I dropped it trying to make the bus, and while I wasn't able to wait for the next one after I missed my original time he still had no qualms about helping me search and get on my way. I've been traveling regularly in and out of Ann Arbor for the last four years and have ridden Michigan Flyer more than 10 times to and from the airport. When friends and family fly in, I've also set them up with Michigan Flyer. Every single time, Michigan Flyer has been reliable, on-time, and all the drivers have provided friendly service. They have free bottled water, wi-fi, and outlets on all the buses as all the other reviews have said. But I just had to write a review (my first yelp review) due to the above-and-beyond service I received last night. I was flying in kind of late and had 40 minutes to deplane, claim my luggage, and make my way to the last bus of the night (at 10:15 pm). Plenty of time, right? Lo and behold, my plane was delayed and luggage was coming out slower than ever. I was getting more and more nervous as the clock ticked down from a generous 25 minutes to make my bus, to 15 minutes, to 10. I had no back up plan to get home if I missed my bus, and an airport shuttle would have cost me a boatload more time and money after a long enough travel day. At 10:05, the first bags from baggage claim finally start trickling in and mine were nowhere to be seen. Around 10:08, I called Michigan Flyer's office, frantic, to let them know I'm trying to make the bus as soon as possible, but of course their office is closed. I was just on the line connecting to their "emergency extension" when THEY CALLED ME! asking if I would still be on the bus. [Probably because I hadn't boarded on the bus according to their electronic system that drivers use to look up and update their online reservations.] I assured them that I was coming as fast as I can, please please please wait for me, and that I saw my luggage coming out already! I ran over to the bus with my two huge bags at 10:18, and the driver was standing outside, clearly waiting for me. He greeted me with a smile, "Sorry we made you rush!" UM, WHAT? I was beyond grateful that they reached out to make sure I was coming, let the driver know, and not only that, the bus waited for me!!! I told the driver just how grateful I was that they waited for me and that I was so sorry to delay the departure. The driver just smiled, put my bags in the compartment, confirmed my name, and let me know that I was all set and could get on the bus. I could not believe the level of service they provided and truly made my day (and week!). If it was not the last bus of the night, I would not have minded all that much waiting for a later bus (and honestly would not expect them to call to check in either). But the fact is, when it counted i.e. the last bus of the night, Michigan Flyer went beyond expectation to ensure that their customer did not get stranded at the airport. THANK YOU. read more

Taxis between DTW and Ann Arbor are incredibly expensive; trust me, my friend just payed $50 for a taxi. Lyfts and ubers are about the same and may not be available if you're trying to catch a red eye. And weirdly there aren't a lot of other good options for getting to and from the airport, unless you have a friend with a car who can drop you off. Airport parking is also very expensive at $11/day minimum to park at the airport. If you book round trip AirRide is only $11 each way, $22 round trip. A one way ticket is $12. These prices are more than fair given the more-or-less direct route to the airport. If you're leaving from Ann Arbor there are at most 3 stops. If you get on at downtown, it will stop down by the mall, then there are stops at each airport terminal. This bus runs on schedule (note: student's there is no Michigan time for this bus) and will get you where you want to be when their published times state you will get there. And the bus runs nearly every hour, so as long as you reserve in advance and show up about 5 minutes early you will be good to go. The downtown stop, located right across the street from the downtown library under the AirRide sign, is incredibly convenient. The busses themselves are also *really* nice. All of the seats have standard power outlets so if your phone died on your plane playing angry birds you can get a charge and get calls out to those waiting for you on your return trip home. There's free water bottles too and free wifi that I found to work just fine. Tip: Are you worried about dragging your bags to the stop in the cold down the streets at dark? For that portion of the trip you might as well uber or lyft to the bus stop. You're still going to save a ton of money over uber/lyfting all the way to the airport. Have used them five times in the past and never had a bad experience. Until today. Admittedly, I showed up right at departure time. The bus has always been a few minutes delayed in the past, and luckily, they hadn't left this time either. I made eye contact with the driver, parked quickly, walked up to the bus... and he drove off while i was five feet away. I banged on the side, but he just cruised off. I imagine he was probably laughing. I called customer service and they told me "too bad" because I was late. Too bad indeed. The next bus, an hour later, arrived and departed 10 minutes late, so its not like punctuality is the gold standard here. Maybe you'll have better luck, but i wont be using them again. read more

It's a bus service to and from the airport, with select locations for pick up and drop-off. ( Sheraton in Ann Arbor, East Lansing - call for details) Why 5 stars? 1) The driver (Joe, an ex flight attendant) is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and makes sure you are taken care of. A lady missed her flight because of a blizzard, which slowed the bus down. They comped her ticket and offered her a free ride the next time. 2) Complimentary bottled water 3) Large spaces between comfortable seats. 4) Electrical outlets in a few seats (for your laptop etc..) 5) Free Wifi on the bus. 6) $10 from Ann Arbor to Detroit Wayne Airport, if you make a reservation. No reservation = $15. Pick up is 1 time per hour. Plus they drop you off at specific terminals. Caveat - it is a ' super shuttle ' with limited stops / pickups. It will take you to your terminal. Perk - since there is only 1 stop in Ann arbor, it should take about 25-35 minutes to get to the airport. 45 minutes tops to get to your airline. read more

This is an awesome service and I'm glad I found it! If you book online, a one-way ride from DTW to Ann Arbor is $12. It was very convenient to book on time and to even change my drop-off location (there are 2 in Ann Arbor). Pick up from ground transportation at DTW, bags are conveniently put into luggage storage by the staff, and you're on your way. The bus is clean and comfortable (the two most important things along with price) with a few extra perks: outlets at every seat, free wi-fi, and free bottled water. They prefer if you don't talk on the phone or play loud music so it is comfortable and quiet for all the other passengers. The only negative for me was that I had to take an uber from the bus station where I was dropped off to the hotel I was staying at, but this is minimal and if I need a ride to A2 in the future, I will definitely use the Michigan Flyer. read more

I've taken this a few times and recommended it to friends. It's a great way to get to Detroit Metro without the aggrevation of driving yourself or paying outrageous prices for a commuter flight. Bonus: unlike a drive or commuter flight, you have free Wi-Fi! Bloggers and email addicts rejoice! The Flyer is spotlessly clean and surprisingly quiet. I would expect noise from cell phone chatter to permeate the vehicle but it really doesn't. The biggest confusion is trying to figure out where to pick up the Flyer at Metro as the pick up site isn't marked. I was seriously impressed with the Michigan Flyer Air Ride service. $12 gets you from DTW to Ann Arbor (multiple stops). You reserve in advance online, or pay exact cash on the bus. What I really liked was that they had a gentleman at the airport to get everyone organized, checked in, and oriented as to where the bus was, when it was coming, etc. Haven't we all been on a bus where the driver must do all these things AND unload the luggage AND more? These people have got it right. They also have joined the 21st century (unlike some other bus companies coughGreyoundcoughPeterPancough) and use a smartphone thing to scan you in and check if you have a reservation. The driver was wonderfully cheerful and courteous. The bus was incredibly punctual. I did not make use of the WiFi or free water, but these are wonderful perks too. read more

I took the Michigan Flyer to the airport two years ago and it was the most relaxing ride with the kindest driver. My cousin is currently on the bus as we speak and said that they were so kind to him when he foolishly booked his return ticket as his outgoing ticket. They called and kindly double-checked before charging him. He missed his bus today because he was 2 minutes late, and they booked him on the 1 p.m. and didn't guilt him or give him a hard time. Yes, the price is right, but caveat emptor, my friends. My bus to DTW was late picking up in Ann Arbor and late (20 minutes) dropping me at the airport. It was the first bus of the day, with zero traffic and perfect weather, so there was no reason it should have been late. Beware also if you prepay DTW to Ann Arbor and your plane is delayed. Buses don't run very often and dispatch can't or won't contact individual buses to ask them to hold. I literally watched my bus pull away as I was on the phone with dispatch yesterday pleading for them to ask the bus to hold for the 30 seconds it took me to dash down the escalator. Time is money and my money will in the future go to a service that gets me to and from the airport in comfort and on time. read more
