A Pleasant Surprise and a Great Place to Take a Break After several days in Frankenmuth, we didn't want to repeat any of the restaurants we had already visited, so we decided to give Michigan on Main Bar & Grill in the Castle Shops a try. There were very few guests at dinner time, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was very kind, welcoming and efficient. We started with the pretzel served with mustard and beer cheese. The beer cheese was easily the highlight--we actually had to order a second serving because it was so good! For our entrées, we ordered the Grilled Cheese and the Smash Burger. The Grilled Cheese, served on ciabatta bread, really isn't what I would call a grilled cheese. It's much more of a tender short-rib sandwich with a little melted cheese. The meat was very tender, but it lacked seasoning and needed something more to bring all the flavors together. The Smash Burger was good and cooked well, although there wasn't anything particularly outstanding about it. What we really enjoyed was the atmosphere. Michigan on Main has a quiet, low-key bar feel that was a welcome change after some of the busier tourist restaurants around town. We enjoyed sitting near the front window, people-watching and having a chance to relax before continuing to wander around downtown Frankenmuth. Service was quick, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the beer cheese alone was worth the stop. To be fair, we thought we were sitting down at the restaurant at the Bavarian Inn when we approached the host here, but apparently the patio area is "Michigan on Main" a separate restaurant with a separate menu. I was initially quite disappointed about this, as we had already chosen what we wanted to eat from the Bavarian Inn menu and were ready for some schnitzel and authentic fare. However, we were already seated with our dog when we realized all this. I did ask for a Bavarian Inn menu and was told that was not possible and also told that the Bavarian Inn is not dog friendly but we were already there and we were hungry so we decided to stay and to give them a try. The patio seating is nice, although it was a little cramped and I was closer to other people and their conversations than I would have liked but the weather was good and so was the people watching. I started off with a Cinnamon Toast Crunch from their drink menu but it was underwhelming. The menu is quite small with limited options so I ended up ordering a Pretzel charcuterie board and my husband had their sausage duo. The presentation was simple and could even be described as economical on their part. The food itself was fine for the most part. There were a few things didn't care for the flavor of like the little sausages, but fortunately for me my little pup was happy to take them off my hands. I really liked the jam served on the side of my meal and the mustard was too die for! (I actually ended up buying some to take home it was so good) My husband said his meal was fine. There were some bees or wasps that were bothering people and they did become quite annoying, especially towards the end of our meal. I kept shooing them gently, but they were persistent and when they started to bother the lady next to us, she became incredibly frightened. If you have a fear of bees or wasps, I definitely would not recommend dining here. All that being said, it was about $60 after tip for our meal and while it was perfectly adequate given the options available to us at the moment, I don't think it's anywhere that I would go out of my way to revisit. read more

Awesomeness and wonderful bar restaurant with no wait, fully staffed and fun Trivia night activities unlike the Famous Bavarian Inn Restaurant, which sits inside with only German Foods. This fun little bar restaurant faces the busy Main Street in this beautiful, famously decorated downtown with German heritage! It's gorgeous just to sit here and enjoy their fine dining experience as well as the spirited staffs running around the thirty some tables with mixed American Hamburgers and German Bratwurst Sausage Dishes and German beer in 14 oz. dainty glasses. 9/27/2025 we spent most of the day here in Frankenmuth with our out of state guest. Lots of quaint gift shops, coffee bars and restaurants for you to pick from. We browsed pretty much every shop in downtown thru uptown districts. We decided on Michigan on Main for lunch because they had outdoor seating and we had our small mini schnauzer with us. Last year we had lunch here and they welcomed our dog to the outdoor seating but this year we were told service dogs only. Next year we won't come here for lunch or dinner as we discovered many other areas that were pet friendly w/outdoor seating. My husband tried the Main Street chicken quarter white with a cherry salad. He loved the salad and did not like the flavorless white chicken. Our guest both loved the 12" brat w/pretzel and I liked my smash burger w/fries. We had to order carry out due to the no pet policy so we ate lunch under a shade tree across the street. Our waiter was friendly and brought our lunches to go out to us, the outdoor area was nice and inviting with a handful of guest. Too bad we couldn't have joined them but it all turned out ok. read more

Well we went here for a quick bite for our supper and just wanted to sit eat and get out to explore more of Frankenmuth. We come here at least twice a year to shop at Bronners. First of all. Forget about quick! It took an extraordinarily long time to be greeted by anyone and one girl working there obviously does not enjoy her job and we overheard saying as much. She made that evident. Luckily we had another server Saydye (sp) who was awesome. But her excellent performance could not off balance the fact that the food took forever to appear from the kitchen. So forget about quick. Then the fish was way over cooked and dry and the cherry BBQ sandwich was also dry as could be and almost as tasteless. The battered fries were okay but would have possibly been better if they had arrived hot and not tepid. And for basic Denny's food (not even that good) it was super over priced. And the abundance of dollar store plastic fake flowers really aren't the ambiance one would expect at the Bavarian Inn. We even canceled plans with friends for a meal later in the week for a meal at the Inn Restaurant due to this poor showing from one of their other restaurants. I would have gone with only one star but or server was just so terrific. Not worth the stop I'd have to say truthfully. read more

Joined family of 6 here for Mondays all you can eat special "chicken tenders". Came with fries and coleslaw. Very nice waiter and efficient in service. Making sure extra ranch dressing was placed on table and prompt service in checking to see if anyone wanted refills. Food was decent amount and atmosphere was pleasant! Craft beer list was plentiful and the menu offered selections for those who did not want the special of the day. The price was 14.99 however being in a "tourist" town that is normally a good price for the area. read more

Meh. Stopped here Saturday night for a light meal and found it only OK. The "wedge" salad on the menu wasn't a traditional iceberg lettuce wedge, this was 3-4 stalks of Romaine lettuce with some bleu cheese dressing & a couple of split cherry tomatoes. Tasted OK, but not what I consider a "wedge" salad. My wife ordered a Moscow Mule to drink, said it was refreshing. I ordered a vodka martini "up" with 2 olives, might have been the worst martini I've ever had. No chill to the glass or to the vodka, it was like they just poured vodka into the glass and put a couple of olives in it. Ugh. The patio we sat in was nice, good music. read more

Another adventure we had over the summer was through Michigan. The first stop of our trip was to Frankenmuth to allow the kids time to play at a water park, which was a hit. We didn't spend a lot of time in the downtown Frankenmuth area, as it sort of reminded me of a German Gatlinburg. With that said we did spend some time seeing the historic Bavarian Inn and having lunch there at their Michigan on Main bar & grill. The entire area of Frankenmuth was very busy when we arrived on Sunday, but it was pretty quiet and enjoyable the next day. We tried to get a table on the small patio of Michigan on Main, but it was one of few crowded things we ran into that day. So instead we sat at a booth in the mostly empty inside dining room. If you didn't already know, Frankenmuth is famous for its chicken dinners. I wanted to get a sample of this fried chicken and went with their chicken club sandwich ($13.50). This sandwich is topped with gouda, mixed greens, tomato, and a creamy basil pesto dressing served on a ciabatta bun. Overall a solid sandwich, though I'm not sure there was anything special about the chicken. Perhaps you have to order the family-style chicken dinner to get the full experience. My wife enjoyed the Michigan southwestern style black bean burger topped with mixed greens, guacamole, corn & black bean salsa, and smoked gouda cheese on a pretzel bun ($13). This was a very good homemade burger. Both sandwiches are served with Michigan potato chips, or fries can be added for an upcharge. Michigan on Main was a very pleasant dining experience. Ate with the family and in laws at Michigan on Main. Initially we were told that there was like an hour plus wait but we were pleasantly surprised when we were seated rather promptly. The menu is overall ok, we split the chicken sandwich with the hubby. Others got Salad, bratwurst, burger. Overall the food was fine. Service was ok, it seemed that the staff was a bit overwhelmed. Rather than pay the ridiculous $30 a person for chicken at Bavarian Inn, we thought we would stop in at this restaurant for a quick meal. It was in the lobby of Bavarian Inn and we thought it would be fine. BIG mistake. We waited over 55 minutes for our lunch . People that came in after us were served and gone by the time our meal arrived.When we inquired why it was so long for a chicken croissant, chicken sandwich and a large pretzel we were given very poor reason which made no sense. For some strange reason we did not leave. Eventually we were served some of our order, but not everything. My wife's food didn't come out and a reason was mumbled, as to why. I felt bad as did our daughter eating while my wife's lunch wasn't served. Eventually it came but were thoroughly disgusted by this point. Asked for and received our bill, but the waitress 'Christine, offered no explanation or apology. We waited another 10 minutes while our bill was run thru the charge apparatus. Don't go there. Stopped in Frankenmuth for a drink and bite to eat after a challenging round of golf at The Fortress Golf Course. Not wanting to indulge in the full monty and calories of Frankenmuth's world famous family-style Chicken Dinners, we opted for the cafe/bar & grill called Michigan on Main. Knowing that it was owned and operated by the Bavarian Inn assured us that the quality of its food and drink would be excellent. We quenched our thirsts with an icy mug of Heidelberg on draft and a dreamy Creamsicle, a delicious cocktail of Amaretto, Triple Sec, OJ and vanilla ice cream. My wife ordered a Frankenmuth-style Quarter Chicken-white with a salad and sides of sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. I opted for the Seared Wild-caught Lake Superior Whitefish also with a side of mashed with chicken gravy on the side. Our drinks and dinners were absolutely delicious and our server did a fantastic job of overseeing our dining experience. We found that Michigan on Main was "Bavarian Inn-light". We snagged a great Frankenmuth-style meal without walking out feeling like you had overeaten....a perfect 5-star Frankenmuth experience. read more

Had dinner here on Wednesday September 1st (2021) as they have a special adult meal for $11.99 after 5pm. It consists of a half-pound burger, fries, and a craft beer, so that's not a bad price. Food was good, filling! Was nice enough to be sitting outside on the patio, nice view overlooking the fountain across the street, plus view of live music if playing in the pavilion on the side of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant. Michigan on Main is part of that restaurant. The bees were a problem-so if you hate them flying around, don't sit outside! (There's still plenty of flowers to see in town this time of year). We had a nice server-he was kept pretty busy though, only server on patio. Not sure how busy inside was at this time of day on a Wednesday. Everyone enjoyed their meal! There wasn't anything we ate that wasn't amazing. We started with the Potato cheese puffs. They were like larger potato coins with some chive in it and served with ranch dressing... so good! The food came maybe just 10-15 minutes later, but it seemed to go so smoothly because the service was great and our waitress was so attentive. While in Frankenmuth for a quick trip, we stopped in at Michigan on Main! The Bavarian Inn restaurant and other local places were closing soon as business hours in a small town are short. However the hours here were a little bit longer. The Michigan on Main menu seemed like an abbreviated Bavarian Inn menu with a few different, more casual choices. I ordered a specialty/seasonal drink called Christmas Morning and I'm not sure if it was the alcohols mixed, or the flavor of mixers, but it came out tasting kind of like pool water. My boyfriend tried it too and before I told him my thoughts, he asked me "why does it taste like chlorine?!" So, I'm not alone in that thought. On the bright side, the pretzel appetizer was a great way to start the meal! I loved the sweet Bavarian mustard that came with it! The cheese was not warm enough so it was a little thick, and also did not offer much flavor. For a main, I ordered The Grand burger with fries as I was in the mood for a classic. It was pretty greasy since my bun was soaked through before I got to my second half so I ditched the bread and just ate the insides. The burger was enjoyable flavor-wise, and went really well with the sweet Bavarian mustard. The fries are the good kind--double fried Perfectly crispy! Our waitress was nice, patient, and checked on us regularly. Overall, it was a fine experience and I'm not opposed to coming back, but I would rather try other places in the area before re-visiting. read more

Had a great time relaxing on a Saturday afternoon, people watching with good drinks, at Michigan on Main. We felt snacky, so I ordered the Sausage Variety Platter (ironically called the "Wurst" in German), which came with my choice of 2 or 3 sausages (Knack-, Brat-, or Weißwurst) plus a side, and my wife had the fried potato cheese dumplings (Kartoffelkäseknödel), which is a type of Krokette, for those of you who know what I am talking about. Ended up here when the Bavarian Inn stopped seating people. Honestly, I'm surprised we had never eaten here and we discovered a little gem! Atmosphere is great. Seating was so nice with a window right on Main Street where we got to watch the horse drawn carriages go by (and people watch if that's your thing)! Pickle fries were delicious and potato cheese puffs were yummy. The chicken pot pie had a fun Michigan theme and tasted great! My husband had the Mother Clucker and also really enjoyed it. Pro tip: if another restaurant says I'm Frankenmuth has an hour and 15min wait, do that before you go here to get in right away. Waited 10min at a table without any service when we saw a table sit down and get helped immediately. At this point I stopped a waitress to tell her we had been waiting at a DIRTY table. 5min later they helped another table that had just sat down. Finally after 18min they cleaned the table and took our drink order. However, it still took 10min to get said beer. Let me preface this with the face that that had 3 servers for 8 tables.. another person from our party complained to a manager that said they would come talk to us and to NO SURPRISE they never came to talk with us. On top of it, the food was mediocre at best. And not once did anyone apologize for the service issues. Very disappointed that the manager said they would come over and never did. HORRIBLE Service! No one had a clue what was going on. Went this past Saturday in the afternoon. Sat down, no one came. Finally waived someone done, ordered drinks. Was told they were out of almost all of the beers on the menu. Instead of telling us what they had on tap, the server just kept saying "We are out of that too.". The table next to us was sat FOUR TIMES, and not one server stopped and asked for an order. Think about that. We were there for 1 drink (by the time we finally got something that was in stock), and in the time we sat down, ordered, reordered because they were out, reordered again because they were out of that too, drank our beer, and waited for our check, 4 different groups sat at one table! They all waited, and all were ignored! There was even a server who checked on every table near them, but completely ignored them! Finally the 4th group to sit flagged someone down. It wasn't even busy! Very disappointed that a part of the Bavarian Inn, which is known for its great customer service, has a part of its restaurant being so mismanaged! read more

Tried to catch a few drinks and some college football before dinner, but failed. We got a good seat near a TV and our waitress seemed to have lost our table AND the one behind us. I seriously watched a table right behind ours turn over 4 times in about an hour; people just left after they weren't able to get service. Once I was able to flag someone down, I was told that they were out of almost every beer on the menu. Every drink I wanted "just ran out"! I got one and a half beers in 60 minutes. It's like I can't give my money away! A decent looking menu and good beer list doesn't deserve service like this! read more

It's one of the few places that you can get food after 8pm during the week in Frankenmuth. My Wife and I both got the adult happy meal and I'm glad we did. Our group stopped here for lunch mid-afternoon on a Thursday. Although the restaurant was not busy, they seemed to be short-staffed. Our server was very nice and tried her best, but she was clearly overworked, trying to attend to practically every table in the place. An older gentleman (maybe a manager?) was bussing tables. Our server promptly took our order, but we had to wait for our food quite a while...and it was disappointing. My chicken sandwich was horribly salty, which pretty much overpowered any possible flavor of chicken, sauce, or other toppings. My bun was hard, and I found the whole sandwich just meh, dry and salty. My fries were cold. My father-in-law's hamburger was not seasoned at all,nor was it of good texture or flavor. Appeared to be frozen patties. My mother-in-law's dark meat fried chicken meal was cold, both chicken and potatoes. She ordered cranberry sauce on the side and didn't care to eat more than a spoonful. My husband liked his sausage and pretzel okay, but he said it definitely was not worth the price.
