We've been to this establishment before and I say, it's never a disappointment. Staff are always friendly, and the food is amazing. This particular time I have to give the bartenders/ waitress's/cook a big shout out for their patience, and hard work. A group came in and said they had a 6 top coming that turned into at least 14. After eating here, my husband asked me on the car-ride home: How many stars? I quickly answered without much thought: 4 stars. He responded: Why not 5? ...Good question. Why NOT 5? I did not have a good answer, so 5 it is. Dead Creek checks all the boxes for a quaint dive bar. It's located in what appears to have once been a home and consists of one main dining area and bar with view into the kitchen. The bar is decorated with signed dollar bills and old bumper stickers. Toward the back, there are dart boards. Keno and televisions tuned to sports are scattered throughout. Don't let the description as a "dive" mislead you, I found Dead Creek (including the bathroom) to be very clean. The portions were huge especially for the low prices! The food was super delicious and as I could spy into the kitchen from my barstool, it looked freshly prepared. The day of our visit, a single bartender took care of the entire dining room and I think that the kitchen was a 1-woman-show as well. Although it was quite busy for a midweek lunch, we never had to wait long for service or our meal. Overall, Dead Creek is the type of place that I would love to be considered a regular. Due to the distance from my home, sadly, I never will be. BUT, I will definitely stop in every chance that I get! read more

Waited an hour and a half for food, server came up to us with food in her mouth stating "food should be up any minute". proceeded to wait another 30 minutes for refills after they already grabbed our glasses to refill them. Then decided to get up and leave and pay for our drinks, server then stated "that's f'ing ridiculous" when we asked to pay. Stopped in for lunch and it was pretty dead. We ordered the cheese ball appetizer, chicken salad, and the classic DC burger. Had to pay $2.99 upcharge for a side salad instead of fries. I am obsessed with cheese curds and it's surprisingly hard to find them in Southeast Michigan, so I was excited to find the cheese balls on the menu. The balls definitely weren't what I was expecting. Rather than a gooey cheesy center, it was completely melted cheese inside. It was also pepper jack or some type of spicy cheese rather than just your standard white cheese. It was served with ranch; I think marinara would have been better. Overall, the cheese balls were okay, but disappointing compared to what I was hoping for. The burger was a standard burger. Patty, cheese, tomato, onion, and pickles. No complaints here. Side salad was also good. The ranch dressing is very good and tastes homemade. I did not try the entree chicken salad, but my boyfriend said it was good and he ate most of it. It was a nice, large portion of salad. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. They have a small portion of the menu that's only available on weekends, which we were a little disappointed about cuz some of the items sounded really good. We showed up at 6:30 PM on a Sunday. There were about 3 tables eating when we walked in. It took a good 15 minutes to be greeted which we understand, (It seems to be the going thing now). So we ordered our drinks & drinks came out pretty quickly. We ordered our food and we were there at least a good 1:15 By the time the food came out. I had ordered a Texas burger, no cheese and halfway through eating my burger, I realized they had put cheese on it, scraped it off and then flipped the burger patty upside down so I wouldn't notice. Fortunately, I just choose not to eat cheese because I get really sick if I eat it so I don't think this is going to bother me too much. We'll see. But I can't imagine if somebody has an allergy to cheese how they would've reacted to finding this. Everybody else in my party seemed to have enjoyed their food, but at this point we were all starving so we made the most of it. Visiting from out of state, and with so many restaurants to choose from, I was thrilled to find a place with Prime Rib. We found Dead Creek to be a place a lot of locals frequent and walked into a very busy, friendly bar/restaurant. I ordered the prime rib which gave me a choice of soup or salad and I opted for the seafood chowder. Hubby went with a grilled cheese sandwich (one of his favs) and bowl of chili. My soup came out first and while it had seafood flavor, it was the saltiest soup I'd ever tried to eat. I did my best to eat it and was able to get through a third of it before I just couldn't put another spoonful in my mouth. There was a long wait before the rest of our food arrived and hubby's grilled cheese was cold and hard but he really liked the chili quite well. He said the chili made the cold grilled cheese a non-issue. As for my prime rib, it also seemed well-seasoned. As for the mixed veggies, they were sooooo salty to the point of being inedible. I ate the prime rib and we called it an evening. I probably wouldn't return. read more

The food was good I had the Texas Steak Sandwich which hit the spot cause I was starving. Nice laid back atmosphere and all the waitresses were very nice and helpful. We only ate a few bites of our dinner and asked for just a discount not even a full refund. They were unwilling to do anything for us. We were seated at the bar, the waitress was fast to get us our drinks, slow to come back to take our order. We ordered two cups of chili and 2 wraps. The chili was out fast. It was over an hour and we still haven't received our food, so I had my husband ask the waitress if our food was coming. She said we were the next ticket and he said I'll ask my wife if she still wants to wait as I was in the bathroom. When I came back I said we might as well wait we've waited this long. So, when he sees the waitress he tells her she wants to wait, which she replies, I already cancelled your order. She didn't apologize just said it in passing. So we left hungry and wasted an hour and a half of our time so no I wouldn't recommend this establishment. read more

I don't need to say much: The HUGE plate of very tasty spaghetti w/meat & Mushroom sauce, that came with a big salad and a soft drink, tax and tip, for an Alexander Hamilton, speaks for itself. (OK, it was a Monday Night Special. But even at full price, would have been a better value than Olive Garden, because it TASTED BETTER than Olive Garden.) The service was fast, but that may just be because we were the only ones there at the time. Oh, and the crushed red pepper, I had to ask for on the side. I wouldn't have been surprised or upset if they hadn't had it, but they did! And the garlic toast was just crunchy enough on the outside, but soft and hot on the inside. We stopped in Friday night and had steaks that were fresh, delicious and grilled outside. The waitress said the steaks are brought in for Friday and Saturday only from a local butcher shop and when there gone there gone. We have not eaten any of the other food but I suspect it is typical bar food which can be good but probably not excellent food. This is a nice place for adults and a bar but I would bring my kids here but not late at night. I would try it out if you are going by but remember it is a bar. read more

Now for an honest review..... Not sure how anyone can give this place more than 2 stars. The food is basic food from Gordons or Sysco. They don't do anything to it other than heat it up or cook it. Cheap frozen burger patties, pre breaded fish etc. When you go out to a restaurant for food you want something prepared with some care. This place is like eating a prepared frozen dinner. When I first stopped in to Dead Creek Saloon about 8 years ago, I had just moved back to MI and in need of something good to eat, they had the best chicken wings! They were like mini friend chicken with buffalo sauce for dipping. I really enjoyed them. Then, one day I decided to order a sandwich and was blown away by this monster meal. For some reason, I stopped eating there. Not because I didn't like it, but because I started to explore other places that were in my area. The other night my husband and I were really craving a good cheeseburger. I didn't want fast food as those just - well pretty much - suck. If I was going to spend money on eating out, I wanted it to be good. We were thinking of ordering from T-Dubs in Frankenmuth when my husband suggested we try Dead Creek. I am so glad we did. He called in an order for 2 cheeseburger with onion rings. Let me tell you, we ordered them medium-well and they were perfect. Nice, big, thick burgers. Not mini patties you get elsewhere. They were ready to go when he got there and the best part was, we don't have to drive far to get there. I haven't been inside to eat in years, but the burger was just what I needed and I have a feeling I will be going to check it out again very soon. Might be the best lunch I've had in Frankenmuth. Who knew this was just past Bronners?!? I came here on a Monday at about 11:30am and was the only person there for about 5 minutes, then a steady parade of folks started streaming in. All sorts from working class guys in Carhartts, to senior citizen couples. My server was excellent (she didn't greet me when I walked in, but everything past that was perfect). I asked her what's popular and she suggested the DC8 Burger (Dead Creek 8 Ounce), the Philly Steak Sandwich, or the Italian Steak Sandwich. I opted for the Philly Steak with the mushroom option. She asked if I'd like to put Jalapeños on it which, naturally, resulted in a, "Hell Yeah!!!". It didn't take too awful long to get it and right away I was happy. It was massive, had boatloads of shaved beef, cheese, and toppings falling out, and was steaming like mad. Lucky for me, I have gorilla hands and managed to wrestle up one half and start shoveling it into my cake hole (I had to in order to make room for some ketchup for the fries! Every inch of this plate was BURIED in food). YUMMM. Hats off to the chef. About the only complaint was that it was too hot to eat, but hey, the copious amounts of steam tried to warn me. Anyway, the bun was top notch, too: soft and moist, yet firm and just the right amount of crusty. And while I'm guessing that the fries are from frozen, they were perfect, too. 100% crispy outsides and almost creamy centers. This guy knows his fryer. Being the French Dip fanatic I am, after I killed my sandwich I mentioned to my waitress that if they could whip up a decent Au Jus, they would have one helluva French Dip. She said they DO have Au Jus. I heart Dead Creek. I'm betting they make it from scratch, too since they do steak dinners, but my server was starting to get busy so I didn't want to bog her down with questions. I could possibly see how this place could become a rowdy biker bar, in the after hours, as some reviewers have said, as it has all he earmarks (like a DJ booth and bazillions of beer mirrors and signage), but at lunch it seems pretty docile. As an aside, the Skittles colored bar stools seems a weird choice for a "biker" bar. Anyway, I will absolutely be looking forward to hitting this place again. read more
