Shrimp butterflied to resemble giant fried tadpoles

Loud is how I'd describe this place. We were sat in the room with the stage. And man, did the noise carry in there. Even though we were at the furthest possible table from the stage, the lady wailing away up there was drowning out any sort of attempts at conversation. There were other segmented sections to dine. but they were all filled up, and it's pretty obvious why. Food was good. Most tables were doing the crab thing. That's fun for sure, but not for me, not that night. Lot of crackin' for little bits of meat. It does fill the air with the lovely sweet smell of crab + Old Bay, which I admit I am a sucker for (Old Bay wings holla). Most of regular menu is fried stuff - shrimp, clam strips, fish, umm, what am I forgetting? Oysters, scallops. Yeah so any seafood really, fried up, served with fries and 'slaw, complete with the red and white checkered paper and plastic wicker baskets. It's as hometown family restaurant as it gets, and since it's in Maryland by the water, it's seafood oriented. This place is perfect when you don't want to cook on a random weekday night so you just round up up the kids and take the family out. But if you want to just plan a night with a group of friends and crush bushels of crabs all night then I say go for it.

Drove about an hour and a half from Philly to this place with a few girlfriends of mine. The place was pretty empty, and located in the cut by itself so I was a little nervous about how the food was going to be. To my surprise the food was outstanding. Ok service, not the best but the food definitely was a 10/10. Would recommend

The boneless wing were tastless i never had had wing so bad in my life the crabs were tastless and small for the price

Place was nice inside and service was very good. However warning the crabs were not fresh. We travel all over to crab houses and as soon as she laid the crabs on the table I could tell the crabs were reheated and not just cooked. 4 friends spent $300 , ordered , shrimp , clams mussels and oysters which were all just ok but the crabs absolutely sucked. Paid full market price for reheated crabs. So not worth the trip. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but it's never ok to serve food that's not fresh

The crabs were small and spoil. Waste of money and drive. Spend over $160.00. Unhappy customer.

Dirty, icky food. Don't. You'll regret it if you go. I'm not sure if this restaurant has ever been properly cleaned.

We had to wave down the chef in the kitchen and she was able to alert someone that we were there! Happy that we stayed because the peek in the kitchen we were able to see fresh bread being made and food being prepared that I wanted to eat! After this experience in the beginning, it was all uphill from there from the service of our waitress the big booth seats to the food experience. The only thing we did not enjoy was the French onion soup, which was kind of flavorless, but we took it to go, and I will definitely doctor it up and eat it later for sure. Go here!

The last time, and I mean the last time, I went alone. The place was empty, only a few seniors there eating. my server was slow, and my food was the worse. I spent a small fortune with an appetizer and main entree... I left so disappointed that I spent about $75 was charged a service fee for using my debt card, and I did not enjoy any of my food.

We stopped in on a Tuesday evening and were seated right away. It wasn't busy when we arrived, and while it did start to fill up, there was never a wait. The restaurant itself was clean and casual, and they do serve alcohol (it looked like they have happy hour specials as well, though we didn't try any). They brought out complimentary chips and salsa to start, with a note on the menu that a second basket comes with a charge. One thing to be aware of: the chips are not made in a dedicated fryer, so they aren't gluten-free. Service was a bit of a mixed experience. There was definitely a language barrier, which made communication difficult at times--our questions often had to go through multiple staff members before we got an answer. Food came out pretty quickly, which we appreciated since we were in a rush. That said, there were some hits and misses. I ordered tacos al pastor but was given steak tacos instead. I tried to explain the mix-up, but it wasn't resolved, and due to time, I just ate them. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked and tough, and the tacos themselves were very basic--just meat on a corn tortilla, with extras like sour cream costing more. On the plus side, my nephew really enjoyed his kids' cheese quesadilla and fries (the fries looked crispy and well-made). Someone in our group liked the chorizo quesadilla, and another had the birria tacos and thought they were just okay--nothing standout, especially compared to other places. Pricing felt a bit high for the portion size and overall quality. There is a small parking lot, but we didn't have trouble finding a spot, which is always a plus. Overall, Casa Mezcal was convenient and quick, but between the order mix-up, inconsistent food quality, and communication challenges, it didn't fully hit the mark for us. I'd consider giving it another try if I were in the area, but with adjusted expectations.

They sell a lot of their own merch so that's what you first see when you walk in. They have a bar area as well. The dining area towards the back is very spacious. And they have seating to accommodate small-large groups. The dim lighting adds to the calm vibe of the restaurant. The service is so fast. I feel like every item came out so quickly. And the servers checked in pretty frequently to clear the table, ask you if you need another drink, dessert, etc. it did feel a bit rushed. As a starter they give you their Ciabatta bread and the sun-dried tomato oil. The oil was DELICIOUS. I literally bought a jar to take home. For my drink I got the Fresca. It was good, very refreshing. For my entree I got the Linguini & Clams. It was good, could've used a bit more salt but the sauce was good. For desert I got the boozy affogato and it was delish. Would definitely dine here again if I'm ever in the area.

We fired things up with an order of Truffle garlic bread. Everything was delicious! It was the second time we have eaten here and we weren't disappointed. My wife's Gnocchi were delicious... although she was slightly disappointed to find that her Eggplant that came with her dish came in the form of a fried disc. Anyway, my daughter loved her manicotti and I enjoyed my pizza. The waitress was kind but harried. It's a college town. The place gets busy. The failure to bring me a plate or knife and fork, along with waiting forever to pay the check is the reason Taverna doesn't receive 5 Stars. I will definitely try them again.
