The server was really on top of things hecame by us if you need more water if we needed anything and also it was a huge space inside not too hot not too cold. A solo happy hour to end my east coast trip, I chose the Big Fish Grill specifically so I could walk the Riverfront after my meal. Happy hour means $6 well drinks, so my standard is rum and diet Coke. Good drink, single pour of Cruzan. I chose to dine at the bar because the weather was a little steamy out. But I later took my second drink out onto their riverfront patio, and sat awhile in the shade of the building. It was lovely. For snacks, I ordered the blackened filet medallions and the garlic mussels. On a skewer, four hefty pieces of excellent beef were joined with a nifty horseradish dip. I did cut the steak into several bites per piece, so it was a good sized portion. My only preference would have been some garnish (greens maybe?). The mussels normally come with bread, but I let them keep it in the kitchen to sub my own GF bread from home. The broth was thin and lightly flavored, which I enjoyed almost like a soup (but was too embarrassed to tip the bowl). The patron to my right bemoaned the loss of a thicker broth from a previous recipe, so the bartender brought him some scampi butter which helped apparently. I really loved the light broth and found it soaked into the bread quite nicely. Friendly bartender gal cashed me out at my request before I took my drink on the patio. $30 plus tip, well spent. Stopped at Big Fish Riverfront in Wilmington for what we expected to be a quick lunch while driving north, but the experience ended up taking 1 hour and 45 minutes. My wife and I ordered simple salads--nothing complicated--and it still took about an hour for the food to arrive. After we finished, our waitress disappeared and it took another 45 minutes just to get the check. At that point I was getting anxious because we needed to get back on the road. We came to Big Fish to celebrate Father's Day. Even though it wasn't crazy busy, everything took a long time to arrive. My dad's salad came after his entree, and my entree was brought to the table before everyone else's. My spicy Casamigos drink was strong enough that I only needed one (I forgot its name). Went here for a Valentines Day meal with my husband. Was concerned bc some of the reviews speak of bland food, however this was not at all the case during my visit. Our food was delicious and well seasoned. My only reason for taking off one star is because it arrived at our table lukewarm and we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated despite our reservation. I like my food piping hot, but it was finger licking good so I didn't make a big deal about it. I hadn't visited Big Fish in a while but one of my friends suggested it. Two of us were seated as the third person greeted a friend. Jake was our server, super nice guy! 2 of us ordered waters and cocktails. We received the waters then... Waited, and waited, and waited...for a very long time to receive our cocktails. The 3rd person placed a drink order well after the first two and received hers as we were still waiting! We were told they were waiting for Martini glasses. Jake then said if we didn't mind a rock glass he would have them make them in those. He left and returned with them in up glasses. A manager came over to apologize for the long wait and advised she had discounted the 2 drinks, which was very pleasant. They seemed to be short staffed because there was a long wait at various times. On to the food... We ordered the Fried Texas Gulf Shrimp and Crispy Chesapeake Catfish Bites for appetizers. The Catfish Bites were soft not crispy at all but had a good flavor. The fried shrimp were average. For entrees we had... Big Seafood of the Day, Cioppino, and the Chesapeake Bay Tortellini. Really disappointed in tonight dinner with family from out of town. They really wanted to experience quality seafood and shrimp during their 1st night here in Delaware. Unfortunately, everyone included me was disappointed. Usually I have never had an issue with the food quality but tonight was just bad. The shrimp cocktail tasted like rubber, old, chewy not fresh shrimp.the heavy sprinkle didn't hide the bad quality of old shrimp. The pasta sauce taste was just as bad. We came for the fresh shrimp. However, our waiter was great and provided excellent service. I will say we all enjoyed our salads that we order and the portions were large. The mussels were okay but my friend said ADLDI had better quality. The lemon pepper was okay nothing too special. They enjoyed the tuna and cracker and said that was the best thing they ate all night. Also, for medical reason my friend needed a to go cup for water due to surgery. She needed to drink after she ate her meal. We would have even just bought a water bottle at the register if they had it but they said they were out. Since my last review, I have come to Big Fish Grill less frequently. While every meal at Big Fish Grill is always solid, I have since discovered new restaurants that make me feel less of the need to come back to Big Fish Grill so often. Despite, the less frequently visits, Big Fish Grill will always be a staple restaurant for me and my family. First, I believe one of the reasons I used to love coming here often was the atmosphere. I love the high ceilings with the giant sea creatures, and I love drawing on the table. The service is always friendly and happy to answer any questions you have. Additionally, as I mentioned, the food will always be solid. Whether you order a pasta dish, salad, sandwich, or entree, you will likely enjoy your meal. Lastly, the peanut butter pie is the best peanut butter pie I have had from any restaurant! Big Fish Grill is fantastic choice for dining at the Wilmington Riverfront area. So this review will be a little bit different than normal. I never thought I would be doing a review on a restaurant that I thought was so amazing but the service lacked something. This restaurant was in walking distance from my hotel so my co workers and I tried it twice. Now our first visit, we were seated quickly but it took some time to finally have our drink orders taken. We had enough time to decide what we wanted before we were finally approached. The restaurant was busy and when we did finally get a server Dee. She was absolutely wonderful and a great server. She recommended different items and I have to say the Shrimp Tortellini and house's fresh garlic bread were delicious. It's also the reason I had to go back. So I went back to try the lobster Tuesday special. This time our server was Sara. She was awesome and very friendly as well. But it still took about an hr for us to get our food. But when it did finally come out the food was great. I am not sure the cooks in this place could go wrong. I had the fresh raw oysters and stuffed lobster. It was something out of this world. The restaurant is really nice and has plenty of seating and a full bar. They also have a great patio to enjoy along the water. If you are not in a rush and want some great food. Our server Katie went above and beyond to help us when we had questions about the free crab cake platter promotion. Crab cakes were super meaty and not filled with breading like others I've had. They also give free saltine crackers with a tuna dip. This location is large with high ceilings inside. I just wish it had better ambient lighting because it was just so dark and depressing. The view off the deck was the best part. Service was slow, food was mediocre. I ordered the Lemon Pepper Rainbow Trout which was really dry and a sushi roll that was average. This is the second time I have been here. The food was really good. The raw oysters were fantastic. The grilled shrimp were also excellent. My daughter got the stuffed lobster and thought I wanted the gumbo but I had the cioppino... they were out. We completed with the deep dish chocolate chip cookie that they couldn't eat last time because they were full. It was great. It is big, high ceiling and with many humongous hanging sealife. As the name suggests, you can also be seated outside, near a walking path and river. We came on a Wednesday evening on our way back to NY. They offered a lobster special with a 2 course dinner: a choice of salad from the menu and 2 sides. The dinner choices were twin lobster tails, a 1 lb. whole lobster or shrimp and lobster Fra Diavolo for $37.50. We went with the twin lobster tails. They give you a nice fish spread and crackers to start. When the salad came out, I was so surprised that it was near full meal size. The main dish was very good - everything was grilled nicely. If there is one criticism would be the lobster was a little overly salted from maybe Old Bay seasoning - the lobsters already have salt from the sea water. We would come back again. read more

Located near downtown Wilmington on the Christina River, Big Fish Grill is a nice and newish restaurant with a big free parking lot to match a large interior. It has covered outdoor dining too right next to a scenic walking path that parallels the river. There are several nice hotels nearby along with other restaurants. It's a nice part of town. Inside it has a large main dining room with many fish mannequins hanging from the ceilings, a bar area and a few private smaller dining rooms for parties. I ordered a bowl of seafood chowder to start for $9 with a fried cod sandwich with fries for another $21. The chowder came out first and was very good tasting. Unique to this clam chowder is that they include some pork and I tasted it. I thought the chowder was delicious (4). Next was the cod sandwich and fries. The cod came out in 4-5 fillets on the bun with lettuce, tomato and pickle on the other bun. They supplied some house made tartar sauce to put on the sandwich. I'm not sure if it was that sauce or the fish batter or the oil that the fish was cooked in but I didn't care for the taste. The sandwich looked good but taste wise it disappointed me. Giving a 3 is generous as I wouldn't order it again, The fries were shoestring shaped and hot and good. Table service was good. The chowder was very good and the sandwich a let down. It is only for that reason I give an overall 3 score. This restaurant overall is probably more of a 4 place and I would return to try something else. read more

We had a bad experience where the serving of stuffed flounder - an approx 2-3 ounce piece was supposed to be 6 ounces. It looked like the size of a large shrimp. When the waitress put it down in front of us and saw our look of surprise, she said... "I know, I asked the manager if this was right" . Then she said for us to wait a minute... she came back and said that Manager was firm about that being the correct portion. He came over and argued with us about the size, and instead of getting us another very small portion, he picked up the plate and asked diners to pick something else. The new order came out so long after, that I just shared my pasta dish. (That was very good). The waitress made sure we got complementary (huge portion) desserts. She was very good at her job. We wrote a note to the restaurant, and we received a gift card, but we do not know the amount on card yet. That was appreciated. Bottom line is there was a mistake by the manager that made our experience stressful and unpleasant. I visited Wilmington for a day and had a lot of plans to go around town and find things to do, but most of the places were closed, including some restaurants due to Thanksgiving coming up. I found that big fish grill was open and I was ecstatic. Another reason why I chose this place was because it was local to Delaware and I really wanted to try local food, especially seafood. This is a great seafood restaurant. I came for dinner and they were not busy at all and was seated right away. On the outdoor patio, it is a great view of the river. It took me awhile to read the menu because they have a ton of good options.  I ordered the seafood linguine and it was a great option. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauce was flavorful and there were a good amount of clams, oysters, scallops and shrimp. Not the first time we have eaten here but the first time I have been really disappointed. I ordered fried oysters for lunch but since its an appetizer and if you want fries and cole slaw it becomes a dinner item. OK with me, however, the oysters were super chewy which tells me they were either overcooked or a frozen product. The $31.95 price tag was a bit of a shock. This restaurant is known for fresh fish and I am hoping this was a one and done experience with some not so great oysters. On a positive note our server, Sierra, was pleasant and attentive and I love that she referred to us as "ladies" and not "guys" which is what you get now in a lot of medium scale restaurants. The manager there was extremely condescending and if our server wasn't so great I would never go back.
