Nice home townhome feeling. Patrons and staff talking and joking together. Parking is tight and Restaurant gets crowded. Large party should make reservations. Then just sit back and enjoy.

We only ended up here because Chesapeake Inn couldn't seat all of the people I came with. We arrived with about 50 people and were seated right away. I wasn't impressed with the decor and the place kinda smelled like an old basement. Again I was with a huge group so I didn't want to make a fuss and I guess I was trying to be open minded. The customer service wasn't bad. The crabs were priced pretty decent and the decor was like your typical crab house. The crabs weren't bad at all but the mussels were horrible. I don't remember the name of the drink I had but it was good. Overall my experience wasn't horrendous but when visiting Chesapeake City the Tap Room would't be my first option.

Your typically crab house. It was quaint and you could tell has been around for a while. Staff was very nice and all the food looked delicious.

Came here on a Sunday evening and it was empty. The decor is like your usual seafood/crab house restaurant. We were told by the very friendly waitress to sit wherever we like. My dad ordered a half a dozen oysters for himself which were huge and he enjoyed it alot. For our dinner we ordered a dozen steamed crabs, half a dozen of the garlic crabs to try and a basket of fries as our side to go with everything. I do like how they give you two different dipping sauces for your crab. It took awhile for the crabs to come out (which was fine! Atleast we know they were cooking them fresh) then they were brought to the table. The garlic crabs were pretty delicious. Very buttery garlic taste. The steamed crabs was a hit or miss. Some crabs had fresh huge chunks of crab while some had mushy old meat that didn't taste that good. Overall we had plenty of food for the three of us. The waitress was very attentive, refilling our waters and making sure we were doing okay. Overall the meal was good but I've had better crabs. Can't complain since we didn't travel to the beach to get some crabs! It was about 130$ for the whole meal which is pricey but expected. Maybe since it's off season that some of the crabs weren't that great? Willing to try again during the summer months!

With plenty of outside seating and perfect views of all the boating action on the canal Schaefer's is the perfect spot for an early dinner. While the place is always busy, especially when the weather is nice, we were seated within 15 minutes---just enough time to order a few drinks from the large outside bar. Our server was exceptional given the number of tables he seemed to be handling as he stopped at our table frequently between trips to other tables and getting orders in. I think it was great he had help---our appetizers and food were brought to the table by another staff allowing our server to focus on taking orders and getting them to the kitchen---a very well run restaurant! We had the Fresh Berries & Greens salad---Served with honey raspberry dressing, gorgonzola cheese, mandarin oranges and toasted almonds. Portion was on the larger size and worth the price. Also tried one of their specials for the day--a Mediterranean garlic chicken flatbread and it was baked to a crispy crust and topped with a balsamic glaze. Highly recommend if you see it on the menu. While we waited for our dinners we sipped on a couple glasses of red blend and enjoyed their Chips & Salsa which included Tortilla chips served with tomato and mango salsa and guacamole. Chips were fresh, the mango salsa had a nice kick, and the guac was tasty and not bland. An appetizer very much worth trying! Lastly, if you go on Saturday's during the summer there will be live entertainment....sound was just about right for an outdoor venue.

My lobster, shrimp, crab and asparagus soup was nice with every spoonful being a different bisque. My crab melt was, meh. Backfin crab, that didn't resemble crab imperial, too many shell fragments in addition to filler, an invisible slice of tomato and a very dense pretzel roll made for a very mediocre experience. A companion had coconut shrimp, which he liked. Another had a crabcake, which like mine was backfin meat with a lot of filler. She was unimpressed. Another had crab tacos, which she said were "fine". She also had sweet potato fries with a marshmallow dipping sauce. Do I need to rate that? (Our friends are from coastal Maryland and they were convinced we were not eating Maryland crab.) The restaurant is large with water views and clean bathrooms. Lastly, the service: Sophia was 10 out of 5. Checked on us often, went to lengths to ensure she got our orders right, and was a delight to interact with...and her pen collection was impressive, both for me and the mechanical engineer in our party. We all wish you well with the remainder of your education. All in all was just okay for $180 for lunch for four, including tip, with no alcohol.

It wasn't busy on an overcast rainy Thursday, and the staff took great care of us with brief history lesson and tips on what to see and do while in town. The weather kept our walking to a minimum, but what we saw was pure Americana. Lunch was also very good. We shared a new recipe for Brussel Sprouts that was delicious with bacon and balsamic mixed throughout. The tart, slightly bitter, mildly sweet composition hit the spot. Too, we shared a fresh Rockfish Sandwich, that was thinly coated and fried with something like aioli spread across the top, with pickles for contrast to the white fish filet. Tasty. Right beneath the back porch in what appears to be the basement, was the Hole in the Wall Bar, right next to another larger dining room that opened out onto a small patio for better weather, and just beyond the wide canal. We checked it out, but it wasn't quite ready for customers at that hour. If you enjoy American history in a picturesque colonial setting, check out Chesapeake City and Bayard House. Its unassuming charm is captivating.

When we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly woman who asked us if we were a party they were expecting lol. We said we were just walk-ins. She said she'd check with the chef about food? lol strange? But came back and to our surprised seated us. There was a table for 6, table for 3 and our table of 2 available. We ordered straight out meals- Tortorlini à la vodka, and Gnocchi Pomo. The ambiance was so lovely, sweet and a real feeling of being in a restaurant in Capri Italy! Our waitress, the same who greeted us, was a hoot! She brought out our food and refilled our water glasses to the top! Loved it! Wow everything tasted fresh, delicious and so Italian!! The Gnocchi was soft, the sauce had a nice kick to it and the topping of cream was so flavorful, wished for more!! My mouth watering now as I type lol! The only bad thing was no bread basket to sop up all that good sauce! The tortolini was fresh tasting too. You could really taste the difference between dry tortolini and fresh kind! I don't fancy vodka sauce but must say this was good! This plate was also topped with that delicious dollop of cream . The price of pasta dishes compared to portions was on the higher end. It was just the pasta no vegetables or protein. Food was delicious but wouldn't come back as it's not in my budget.

However fusilli with sweet sausage was actually hot / spicy sausage and didn't have much flavor. Tortellini was a huge disappointment. Shrimp dish was ok but really heavy noodles / pasta I actually didn't order an entree. Environment and ambience are nice but spending couple hundred dollars and not getting what we were so looking forward too was extremely disappointing. I don't know how anyone was able to sit inside and have a conversation because you had to yell at the person beside you. Once we were able to get a table (outside in the cold since the music was so loud) and a waiter finally came we ordered food. Skipping ahead...I ordered the nachos. My crab bisque had good flavor, but only a few shreds of crab meat. My wife's Jazzy Jeff soup also had very little crab in it. The crab cake was advertised as having lump crabmeat. It didn't. The fries were good, but the Parmesan cheese mentioned on the menu seemed to be MIA. When our server brought boxes for leftovers she also dropped the check, even though we haven't asked for it.
