First time trying this place even. Though ice lived in the area for a little over 20 years. I always hear about this place and it was my sister's bday and she wanted seafood. We got there late and we're lucky they had a dozen crabs left they five you the option of spicy or not spicy seasoning ( I chose to buy them cooked but you can opt for uncooked) the guy behind the counter was not super friendly but not rude. He answered my questions patiently (which was nice since we came about an hour before last order can be taken). They text you when your order is ready and have it packed up nicely. And we got a bonus crab and lots of legs for being the last order of the night. The seasoning was good and spicy. Crabs and shrimp both delicious. And the shrimp had a sweetness to it. I discovered this place a few years back when it first opened. As a crab lover I was so happy to find a spot within a few miles of home to get on of my favorites. They never disappoint!! The crabs are excellent and always spiced to your liking. The staff are a young bunch of good guys working their butts off to make it happen. read more

Even pre-Covid, there doesn't appear to be any seating. It's a seafood market that specializes in prepared combos. You can find around 15 seafood combos on their website, everything from dungeness to shrimp to snow crabs. The combos feed about 2-3 people and the higher priced ones range from $40 to $50. The veggies that come on the side needs a little revamping. The broccoli doesn't seem to pair well with the corn and the potatoes, and the garlic butter soaked into the corn too much. Or you can order steamed and seasoned blue crabs. If you need to order for dinner, you should call by around 3pm and be ready to pick up within 45 minutes or so. I had to downgrade my rating for the simple fact that I thought the original cooking fee of $1.00 was bizzarre and now they have upped it to 2.00. No other seafood place does this not even the supermarket. And how does it make any sense that they won't even bother to cook a 1/2 dozen small or medium crabs. It's just a no. I'm so glad we have a local spot for seafood boils!! This spot is phenomenal. You don't get the BS from chain spots (e.g., the employees who don't care about whether your order is correct), you get pristine service from a locally owned spot. It's clear that they work hard and strive to make the customer happy, and they do. They deserve all of the good reviews you see. Also, for reference as to what to order, 1.5 lbs of crab is approximately 1.5-2 crabs, give or take depending on how meaty/ which type of crab. Great restaurant that deserves your support. You've been telling yourself to support local businesses, and I bet you're tired of the typical pizza/wings/Chinese takeout dinner, so how about you JUST TRY THIS? They don't deliver but who cares? I mean honestly, couldn't you benefit from a trip to get out of the house? If you're feeling especially considerate, maybe pay in cash since small businesses generally have to pay a surcharge for credit/debit card transactions. A hidden gem in Wilmington! There is a variety of seafood platters to chose from, which come with potatoes, broccoli, and corn. The best part? It's drenched in homemade garlic butter. Most people call in their order, but I always order in store because I never know what I want. Tommy and Junior always provide great customer service so I never mind the wait. Tommy is helpful in offering his recommendations and Junior cooks them up, fresh to order. I prefer light seasoning, otherwise it can be too salty for my taste buds. I used to go here but the last time I visited I watch the owner get nasty with a customer because she wanted her to accept crabs sitting in a bag instead of getting hot crabs to order, argued with her until she asked for her money back to go somewhere else he said well go. Almost every time I've gotten blue crabs from here the crabs are always super light and hollow. I'm not sure where they're getting their crabs from but it's not worth the money. Also, when getting platter with steamed shirts the shells are always stuck to the shrimp. Not sure if it's due to overcooking or possible the thawing process. Everything else is average! read more

Got there late on Labor Day. Was informed that the last dozen of male crabs were available and that they would be closing right after I left. I really wanted crabs so I bought them. I think next time I'll just keep driving to Maryland, as the crabs I received just weren't good. They were very modestly seasoned with old bay ( I like it caked on Maryland style) and there was very little meat to be had. Had to dig past a lot of poo and innards for mediocre meat. Second time ordering from Jae's ! Fresh seafood comes in daily. It was delicious. Went in last night to order food. They cooked / steamed it immediately. A dozen Crabs ( already cleaned ) , clams, shrimp, and Snow crab legs. I recommend going into store instead of calling ahead. Too much of a variety to choose from. They have different types of seasoning too. Jaé and Tommy explained in detail all of the seasonings. They also have platters. Clean , clean store. Best seafood in Wilmington. I'm a huge crab eater! I can eat them all year round. I buy a lot from them during crab season. I enjoy most of my foods spicy and they offer a spicy seasoning for their crabs. Since I've been buying their crabs, I've never had ant bad crabs from them. For the ones who may not want to bother with eating blue claw crabs, they offer snow crabs, dugeness crabs, and king crab legs as well as other seafood such as shrimp. They offer platters with a variety of seafood choices. They are reasonably priced. I would advise calling ahead to ensure they have what you want and to place your order as they definitely sell out rather quickly. read more

My husband and I went to Jae's for the first time yesterday and we were impressed! We ordered a dozen large crabs and they were delicious! Tommy was a sweetheart and even gave us an extra crab since it was our first time ordering from Jae's. We can't wait to come back and try all of the yummy seafood. Went there 2 weeks ago, got 1/2 doz large to try and they were great! Each crab was full, great flavor. Got an bonus crab and was so happy couldn't wait to return. Even told friends about it. Tonight went for a full dozen, 2 lbs snow crab, a lb of large shrimp, and the seafood salad to try. I was suspicious taking crabs out of the bag, they were light, a few very light and there were 14. I would've appreciated the bonus crabs if the rest were ok. Only 2 were ok, none were full as the last time. And they seemed to be reheated. Not cooked fresh. I actually gave up on them after 8 but opened the rest so I could be accurate in this review. 5 of the total were so empty I thought about saving them to bring them back. $40 isn't a bad price for large but not worth the work to pick at this quality. I know its a tough business. But after spending $92 tonight for something I was so looking forward to, I have to express my extreme disappointment. The shrimp and snow crabs were good but I won't be back. You can't make up for old reheated dead crabs by giving me 2 more of the same. read more
