Had to visit this very historic restaurant on my trip to Delaware! We had the corn and crab chowder and the short rib grilled cheese. The grilled cheese was different than what other places offer and it did not disappoint- Both were great! We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Loved the atmosphere here. Don't use the online ordering via their site. I placed an order at 5:43pm for a 7:15 pm pickup. Arrived at 7:15pm and was told the kitchen was jammed and that it was going to be a bit for the food. Waited 30 minutes sitting at the bar, no update or apology offered during the wait. I then asked how much longer and was eventually told a few more minutes, but they have a "new manager," so things were backed up. I've worked in a restaurant before, I understand mistakes happen. To not receive an apology stunned me, honestly. I asked to speak to manager and he told me that I needed to understand they received the order at 7:15pm and they were hosting a private event so it's not their fault. I was more stunned. I showed him on the receipt the 543pm placement time and the 7:15pm pick up time. He told me again they did not receive the order until 7:15 despite the website, receipt recording all this information. Unsurprisingly, some stuff was missing and needed to be added to complete the order. I was given an apology as I walked out by manager, but very poor experience overall. I had family in town and thought that I would take them for the food. They loved it but they also loved the Bloody Mary Bar. They had never seen that and really enjoyed the opportunity to make their own drink. The options are great. We all did something different. Deer Park Tavern is an amazing historic tavern in the heart of Newark. This is where my parents and I ate while visiting Delaware to meet my graduate school which is now the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration, and I've eaten here numerous times during my program between 2013 and 2015 including my 24th birthday in 2014. It was fun coming back a decade later with my wife and best friend. Our friend had a burger and me and my wife shared a Philly Burger and Chicken Cheesesteak which was amazing as well as various beers from their large selection. I don't even know where to begin with this absolutely disgusting food. Ordered three appetizers and five entrées. Jamaican jerk chicken nachos. Absolutely zero jerk flavor whatsoever. It was chicken n nachos. Cheesesteak eggroll - take an eggroll and fill it up with grease cause that's all you could taste horrible Chicken wings - probably the only dish that had some flavor however, I think they were baby chicken wings incredibly small absolutely not worth the price. Short rib, mac & cheese sandwich- was just OK. It had some flavor thank God. Ordered a side mushrooms. They were dry and disgusting. Portobello burger - you could only taste the blue cheese. So just order some blue cheese for a meal. Pizza - I've had frozen box pizza that was 10 times better than this sorry excuse of a pizza. Chicken Caesar wrap - again zero flavor. Hardly any dressing very dry. Service was OK . The restaurant is old school very comfortable, beautiful tavern . I'm sorry, but I wish my family and I had gone to McDonald's over this place. It was very expensive for absolutely horrible food. Please fire your entire kitchen or just serve microwave frozen entrées because they would be better than what you're putting out now. read more

However, after we ordered, the appetizer was delivered, and the server didn't check on us for around 20 minutes. We needed a refill and had to flag him down ourselves. Starting with a Blue Moon who know where I'll go from there. Coming here for a quick dinner with a great coworker and soon to be Yelp Elite. Checking out the restaurant for the first time during the off semester season while the rest of the Blue Hen UD population is away. This place is always busy during the semester but today it's calm for a drink and bite to eat. No happy hour on Fridays but we still grab some drinks and a French Onion sandwich made with burger meat than roast beef. I'm ok with that. The bread was crispy yet soft along with the dipping sauce gave it some more flavor and didn't make it all soggy. I'll have to continue to check this place out through the year with friends and coworkers. read more

We had a friend bring us here recently and were so excited to try their brunch but it ended up being disappointing! We sat outside and our server did not come by very much. Our waters were not refilled and we had to wait a while to get our Bloody Mary's ordered. When we did order and get our drinks, all of our Bloody Mary's were not consistent with the amount of alcohol in them. We mixed them all up, but yet my friend's tasted like straight vodka with a hint of tomato juice mix when mine was well balanced and tasted good. The meal itself was pretty good, although we received some items we didn't order and the food was cold when it came out. Yes, that depressed and angst ridden teenager music by talentless bands that all sound the same and apparently dated the same girl that wronged them. I don't usually leave reviews but unfortunately felt I needed to leave one about my experience. I recently went to deer park for the first time since I graduated a few years ago. I was shocked to witness one of the bartenders, Angela I think her name was, being extremely rude to several customers. Her behavior was rude and over the top. She not only made me uncomfortable but also seemed not all there as if she was drinking/drunk on the job. She seemed annoyed at my drink order and really unapproachable. It's highly unfortunate as most of the bartenders in my experience were always so professional however she was the complete opposite of that. Managers were nice, bouncers were nice and servers greeted me when I walked in. Sad that the bartender I was with reflected so poorly on the rest of the staff. read more

I order the crush because of the 2 for 1 deal. No silly, you're not getting two drinks, your getting a show and a drink. After ordering, I just sit back and watch in awe as he masterfully crafts this delicious alcohol infused citrus creation. This is my first Yelp review, had to make one just because of the lameness of my recent experience (left 20 min ago). The place was a large, mostly empty tavern. I stopped in for lunch around 12:30, just myself, and after explaining this to the hostess and asking if I could just sit at the bar, she directed me over. The bar seating was about 20% occupied. The bartender watched me place my bag beneath the bar and sit. He looked mildly confused, and then annoyed. The conversation went about as follows: Bartender: How can I help you? Me: I'll have a bite and a beer, please. B: what? M: Sorry, food and drink. B: What do you want to drink? M: May I see a menu, please? He then reached behind himself, grabbed a drink menu, dropped it in front of me on the bar, and stood there. I quickly flipped to the draft page, and asked for a Founders. I went to use the restroom, and when i returned my beer was on the bar. When I asked for a food menu, the following conversation occurred: M: how are the pizzas here. B: they're good. M: may I have a Margherita, please? B: you just want a cheese pizza? I had to think about this. A Margherita, on their menu, said mozzarella, tomato sauce, pesto. I considered his question, and answered: M: I guess it's the same. Just with pesto, ha ha. The bartender walked away. 20 minutes or so later, he put a cheese pizza in front of me. The moz was not fresh, as is traditional in a Margherita, and there was no basil in any form. I asked him: M: is this a cheese pizza or your Margherita? B: you asked for a cheese pizza. M: no, And here I repeated our conversation. He looked more annoyed. B: would you like me to put in a Margherita? M: no, that's fine. I wanted to minimize interaction with this person. I ate the smallest slice of the Margherita. The crust was too thick and poorly textured and the cheese was not was I was hoping for. A little to plasticky. The sauce was fine. I asked for the check, paid for beer and shitty pizza i didn't order and only ate one slice of (because I'm a big baby who's afraid of confrontation), and tipped him a dollar for the beer pour. I then went over to Timothy's, which was packed. The bartender said "hello" back and didn't look at me like I was ruining her day. Today was the first time I had to wait quite long for a drink, and the bar wasn't even full of guests. I waited about 5 minutes or more for a drink. I'm patient, so waiting wasn't so much a big deal -- but the problem is twofold and made me decide to leave a review. First, I wasn't even asked what I wanted to drink by the bartender -- I had to raise my voice and call the bartender over, because she didn't even look my way or acknowledge that I was sitting at the bar, without a drink, for almost 5 minutes. This is after greeting her by the way -- I wasn't asked what I wanted to drink after being greeted. To pour salt on the wound, within this 5 minute time span, she actually poured someone else (a couple) a drink, so it was like I was invisible to her after I said hello. You know it's bad, because even the couple she poured the drink for looked over in my direction/to me, because they knew I had been waiting for a while with nothing, but they managed to get their drink first. Perhaps Deer Park should hire them -- they have far better awareness. I shouldn't have to raise my voice to get a bartender's attention for a drink in a non-crowded bar in the afternoon. It's 3 PM, not 10 PM. I will say that it's not by any means my typical experience with other bartenders, and I hesitated because this doesn't usually happen. However, feeling unacknowledged is a terrible feeling and enough that I probably won't be back. There are too many other establishments on Main Street. read more
