I've got an older MacBook and decided to try and extend its life with a new internal hard drive. Two friends and the Apple Store suggested I check out Micro Center. The floor attendant was very helpful when making my selection. I did the install myself but ran into trouble with the computer recognizing the hard drive when I went to reinstall the operating system. I went back up to Micro Center and spoke with their tech support - easy fix; the lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be that when you call the Apple Store, the phone system tells you many people are queued up ahead of you. With Micro Center, you just hold ... indefinitely. Which is why I gave up and drove back up there. But over all, friendly, knowledgeable staff, well-organized, good prices...I was pleasantly surprised. read more

Saint Louis should really bring a Frys Electronics out here because they are 100x better than Micro Center. I feel like Micro Center is always low on their inventory, and running out of things. They do not have a wide variety of electronics/brands, not a lot to choose from. They very rarely price-match to other websites unless they feel like price-matching. I am not a huge fan, BUT where else are you going to go and get electronics?????? sure as heck not going to Best Buy. The people that work here are nice, usually friendly and will help you. I went in on Saturday, December 1 and picked out the components for a new PC. Great selection, competitive prices; Brandan, the Build Your Own Specialist that helped me with some of the selections was fantastic, even going as far as to check prices online to make sure that Micro Center was price matching. I opted to have them do the build for me; I got a call on December 2 from the builder that he was starting and he asked me a few questions about what I was hoping for in the build. On December 3 the build was complete (notified with another call from the builder). Picked the build up on December 4. The Good: Great communication from everyone from start to finish; friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. Prices for the high-end components were inline with what I could have received from NewEgg. The charge for the build was fair (one of these days I will bite the bullet and build it myself). The completed build was spot-on...clean, great cable management, unused parts/manuals/boxes given to me upon pickup, the BIOS for the motherboard had been updated, all Windows updates were installed, all drivers correctly installed...overall I could be happier, with the exception of one glitch... The Bad: When I got home the HDD used for storage (SSD for OS and apps) wasn't recognized. A quick call, a return to Micro Center the same night, a 30 minute wait...and it turned out that the SATA connector to the motherboard was disconnected. My guess? Either not firmly connected to begin with or an oversight...either way it was initially frustrating but quickly resolved. Highly Recommended. read more

I really wish they would just say "I don't know" instead of sending me home with a piece of equipment that's not even compatible with my computer . There's a Help Desk for computer issues and electronics galore such as televisions, laptops, printers, fax machines, Roku boxes, USB drives, cameras, etc. There are some video games, but my guess is that you'd find a better selection of video games at Target, Best Buy, or Game Stop. Ink and paper for all kinds of printers - that's my #1 reason for coming here! They post prices of aggressive online competitors, such as NewEgg.com to show that they have products beating those prices. And to round it all out, there are cute little "geek" gift cards, t-shirts, Lego figures, magazines, etc. as nice gifts or for yourself. read more

Any time I need to pick up something for my projects, this is the place I go. I've been doing audio/video work for a few years now, and I am always in need of DVD's, cases, etc, and the prices here are fantastic, and I can buy them in bulk packages rather than 5 & 10 packs like most stores carry. In addition, they have a selection of less common media, such as the dual layer DVD's for larger projects. I've also picked up a couple of external hard drives over the years, and again, great prices every time. The customer service is also great, with a lot of knowledgeable and helpful employees to assist with any questions. The only problem I have with Micro Center is that I cannot leave this place without spending money! I always find what I'm looking for, and usually something I don't really need, but at a price I cannot pass up! read more

Been to this place many times for my laptop issues. This past issue caused the screen to not work, and it looked like I would have to spend either $400 on a new screen or get a whole new laptop. I took it in, and a great employee took apart my laptop, didn't find anything at first, but kept at it and found the issue and fixed it FREE OF CHARGE. Would very much recommend for your laptop needs. Because of this I can now keep my laptop for another few years and am hundreds of dollars richer than I would've been if I had gone somewhere else. read more

Overall not a bad place. But always harrassed by the sales people when I'm fine on my own... I'm an avid user of Newegg/Tigerdirect/Amazon and PCPartPicker.com. This store is clean and well laid-out. And occasionally they will have a decent deal around the holidays but it usually winds up being cheaper to buy online than pay tax on the items here in store. (small complaint but something to consider) Though, being a serious gaming enthusiast with custom built PCs, water cooling and connector sleeving done by hand, I feel that a lot of the store reps are trying to tag the stuff I want to buy with their sticker for the commission when all they do is ask me if I know what part I'm buying what it is good for. It's great that we have a physical version of newegg to walk in to as the aisles are packed with tons of parts and I can see myself using this store to window shop for a monitor and buy it online for cheaper. TL;DR - Great clean store with overly helpful people that want commission. I love this place, but mainly just walk around to look at everything or get an idea of what something looks like before I get it on Newegg. I hate paying sales tax and now that the 64-40 coridoor is complete the tax % is darn near 10% here. I have gotten things for people that need it quick and I am fixing a computer for them but my own stuff I get from the net. I like talking to the people up here also, they are surprisingly knowlagable and they have a desent but crowded Mac section. I did get some hard to find SAS drive cables here and a few other things that I would have had to dig for online to find a good quality product but for the most part stores like this end up colapsing to big box stores like Best buy. I used to work for CompUSA for about 3 years and left before they closed. This place reminded me of Comp when I went it but a more vast selection of everything. I hope they can stay but I am seeing a trend with everything going to online. read more

Prices are a bit more expensive than Walmart and Best Buy, but the selection and the staff more than makes up for it. You may wait a bit long in line as they only have eight registers. I have purchased probably 5 computers there and have always had a helpful considerate sales professional. In fact, a manager has always approached me to ensure I had no questions. I do compare big time and if it is not cheaper I don't get it. They always beat other's prices even online. The cashiers are just that. Don't ask them any info. They are not professional what so ever. I did have a brief service question several times and the guys at the help desk are incredible. This place is for the true geek at heart! Unfortunately, I don't know much about building a computer from scratch, but what I DO know is that they have a great selection of computers! Sales associates know enough to assess exactly what you're looking for when purchasing a computer. I initially came in for a MacBook Pro since they were 100 cheaper, but walked out with an XPS instead (more bang for the buck!). My associate was completely unbiased and he helped me choose a perfect laptop for my daily needs. Micro Center also have a very knowledgeable staff behind a their help desk for repairs or to answer any questions. This is place was long over due in the st. louis metro. I find the staff to be knowledgeable and honest. Not that they are experts in IT, but they know their products pretty well. I'm no computer whiz, but I wanted to take my first stab at building a home theatre PC. I built my parts list and did my research and took a trip to MC. After wandering around definitely confused by the wide variety of options I began to doubt my shopping list. A knowledgeable attendant found me and asked what my goals were. After explaining my plan he pointed out a few things I had not thought of. Then he helped my start pulling parts off the shelf. I had given him my budget, which I thought was probably too low, but he offered some open box items to ease the cost and even found some deals with partnering processors and motherboards. When all was said and done, I came in under budget with a more powerful machine than I planned to build. The rest of the project went very well and now I have built my first computer. The staff here definitely knows what they are talking about. I was pleased with their help and depth of understanding of the components that I needed. No matter what I am working they have what I need be it parts or how the world do I put this back together they can help me with it now sweat. While some things are cheaper others are not but i'm slightly more wiling to pay that here because the know how and honesty about quality for what I'm looking at is far better then best buy or any of the others. This place is pretty great. I am a complete self professed nerd, and local stores and chains generally do not cater to a nerds needs. If you want to build a computer, for example, you will either have extremely limited choices in parts (Best Buy), or they will be very expensive (at a little local store), or both. This place finally breaks the trend! I nearly always order this type of gear online at Newegg.com or somewhere similar, but Micro Center actually can compete in pricing and often beat the online retailers, which was very surprising to me. The REAL reason you should go with these guys, though, is that you don't have to deal with shipping, and I'll tell you why that is important. I recently built my newest PC, and I ordered nearly all of the parts from an online store. I love the store, don't get me wrong, but the problem with PC parts is that they are fairly often defective. This is just to be expected. Unforunately, if you don't have the extra parts lying around, it is very difficult to test parts to see what is defective. This means you have to send back piece by piece to an online retailer, wait for a new piece to come in, only to find out that it wasn't the problem. With Micro Center you can walk in the door, pick up all the parts you need, to some testing, and return what you don't need. Very easy! While this review might not be helpful for everyone, it should be for the geeks and nerds of the world. And for everyone else, the prices are generally very competitive, so keep them in mind! They did offer to sell me a more expensive ipad or an open box version of the Ipad I wanted for $20 less than the new Ipad I ordered. I haven't shopped here. I took my computer here on the recommendation from the Apple store. We had an AWFUL experience. So bad I will never be back and I am telling people I know to never go. We check in our computer and it wasn't explained we had to leave it with them...but we do this is Saturday night. They say we will call you by 7:00 Monday Night and let you know either way whats going on. Monday at 7:00 comes and goes no call. So I call them...well my tech is out. I say not a big deal just if you say you are going to call please do. We have now been with out our computer for a few days we are very anxious to know whats going on and can they fix it. He finally calls me back and says sorry he's been busy. I told him thats fine I totally understand but a call would have been nice. He says he'll try and get to it...ok. Patience. He calls back the next day whatever he tried first didn't work. He's going to order in a part and try that. I ask him if he thinks it'll work and he laughs and tells me not to get my hopes up. I do NOT find this funny or a laughing matter. This is my computer and time and money. Thursday night we get the next call he says theres nothing he can do come get out computer we can discuss options. We go to get our computer there a HUGE a line. We just want our computer they can't fix. I think a worker picked up on our vibe and said if you just picking up I'll grab it for you. He can't find it!? They have to track down the tech and at which point we now have to talk to this guy... they keep trying to explain what they went through when we don't care we had already decided we have liked anything about this whole situation and we want another opinion but we listen. He is talking about sending it off and paying $1800 - we are like no thank you we want a second opinion and he is flippant and goes i wouldn't go with cut rate services...and I explain to him I am not talking about cut rate services I want some one to start over I want a second opinion on the ENTIRE THING. Then customer service guy was like is this your first time here? We said yes, he goes you don't seem to happy? I told him we weren't. We just want out computer what else do we need to do and he was like hold on I am not sure...another manager guy close by was like you're fine just go. WE COULD NOT GET OUT OF THERE FAST ENOUGH! THEN we go directly to Mac HQ on Manchester where we were treated politely and professionally and they fixed out computer for $60 and in 2 days. Wow. To say this company has horrible management and lacks basic business logic is an understatement. I'm referring to the location in Brentwood missouri. I've spent close to 100k if not more in the last 12 months for my business. Today I went to reserve 18 laptops that were on sale (I place my orders online for in-store pickup) and my order was immediately canceled. A few minutes later I receive a phone call from a sales guy (I guess ls the manager knew how I would react if he made the call) telling me that they will sell me 1 laptop at the sale price but I have to pay full retail for the other 17 (~$100.00 more). Are you joking? If 18 random people came into your store to buy these laptops they would pay the sale price (there were no limitations on quantity referenced at all on the website fyi; maybe my lawyer should look into that). Also, these laptops weren't on display so no random customer is going to come in and pick these out, let's also talk about how these come equipped with windows 10 pro which is an OS meant for a business....do businesses typically purchase one laptop at a time?? It's hard to believe I'm going to have to go to a competitor over 1200 bucks that microcenter wasn't even going to make on these laptops. I didn't ask for a discount or anything. Just let me pay the advertised price...easy day and I've done this at least ten times. I can't imagine a company losing 100k in sales annually over a backhanded attempt to squeeze an extra 1200 bucks out of someone. I've only visited this particular store once-- a couple weeks ago to get an incredibly priced TV. I reserved it online, so all I had to do was go to the counter on the left and give my name and payment. It was very fast and the staff were friendly. An employee named Brendon wheeled it up to the counter for me and followed me out to my car. For some reason I thought I could fit a 55" TV in my back seat. When it was clear that it wasn't happening, me and poor Brendon tried different methods until we finally made it work.I know I pulled him away from work that he was in the middle of and he definitely did not need to help me figure out how to get the giant thing home... but he stayed with me and did most of the work with a smile! In my opinion, Microcenter has decent prices. Better than Best Buy many of the time. I have made three big purchases from Microcenter and with my last purchase, I also received exceptional customer service. It so happens I went online to order an iPad and pick it up after work. They sent me a confirmation saying my order was ready for pick up. Even though I got off work very late, got too the store 5 minutes before closing, I was treated very well. The customer service person working in the pick up department was very friendly and professional. I was concerned before getting to the store because I was getting there right before closing. I was expecting bad attitudes. Very pleased I received very good customer service. The only reason why Microcenter does not get a 5 star from me is because the time before I got some computer memory from this store. My apples turn to lemons iMac hard drive crashed after 3 years. Apple store in Saint Louis Mall #SaintLouis galleria-mall gave me the run around. Sent me on a wild goose chase to Micro Center to get it repaired however MC claims they couldn't fix the computer. Now Apple stated that they send people there for SS Drives all the time with success. When I talked MC they stated that they never did that. I was told by Apple that they regularly send clients to the Micro Center to have their computers repair such as hard drives replaced. In particular I needed the SSD which is a drive put onto my iMac Apple computer. Mac states they've sent multiple people over to get the same repair at Micro Center (and it didn't depend on the models or year) but Micro Center swears that they've never replaced the hard drive before but they only do it for older computers. I requested their policy and the policy states the computers that are older than five years can receive any type of hard drive that is in the store. my computer is older than five years yet I am being told that I cannot receive the services that they've given to other clients time and time again. I only want what's fair and this is not fair. See policy below. This is more than frustrating. Someone owes me an explanation. The manager Jeff offers a few bucks off maybe to get me out of his hair but by then it was obvious they didn't plan on honoring their policy. read more

I read the great reviews and went to fix my laptop which has been relatively slow, I was VERY disappointed with service. There was a very young man who did not touch my laptop at all and asked me about the problem and to show him. I explained my laptop running very slow and I turned on the devise to show him. His response was we can do diagnostic for $ 39.99 to see what is wrong, if it was anything related to the hard drive, that'll cost you additional $200, do you really want to spend that money or buy a new laptop?!!!!! Again, he did not lay his eyes or hands on the laptop! I thought he lacks the common decency and the knowledge to do this kind of job!!! read more

This store has several strengths. I think that the greatest one is the knowledgeable staff. We have built four PCs and found the advisors really helpful, making sure that we have compatible components. Also, it seems like management has fixed the punishing checkout lines that drove me nuts a year or two ago. Micro Center also carries the $5 Raspberry Pi Zero; you won't find that anywhere else. It took me a while, but I discovered their DIY electronics corner in the back of the store. That has saved me a few times when I needed solder, shrink tubing or wire NOW. They also have Adafruit kits, multimeters and oscilloscopes. Just amazing. A few tips: -First, a word of warning. Refurbished PCs at Micro Center have not worked out for us, and we've bought a bunch and had to return a disproportionate number of them. They haven't been uniformly bad, but I suspect that most of them are off lease and have had one problem or another and were unloaded. That's a guess, but this has been non random. -Build your PC online, using something like PCPartpicker before you go to Micro Center. Then you will already have an idea of what you need vs what you want. And you'll have a shopping list. -Price match, price match, price match. You can get Amazon prices as long as Amazon actually stocks the item. -Sometimes Micro Center has better prices than Amazon. I have seen this with wireless routers, hard drives and SSDs, cases and laptops. -Yes, I not only pay state sales tax, but also a local tax. That sucks, but when I shop at MC I'm doing business locally, and supporting the people there who have given good advice and helped me learn how to do stuff on my own. read more

I always like going to Micro Center. To me, it's the best computer store around. The only thing that comes close to competing is Fry's, which is not in this part of the country, but Micro Center is physically nicer. Anyway, at this store, you can get anything you need for your computer. I went there recently to pick up a new hard drive for my computer. They had larger hard drives for less than Best Buy, and unlike BB, they actually had them in stock. They have tons of things you can use to upgrade your computer or to build your own from scratch. They also have any kind of accessory you could possibly need - mice, keyboards, cables, ink, you name it. They also sell whole computers; it's where I got mine. When they didn't have exactly what I wanted, they offered to sell me something close then add the extra stuff I needed, and all in less than an hour! In addition to all the computer stuff, they also have some camera gear, headphones, computer games and books and some other things. If you go, make sure you get on their mailing list. Every so often they will give you a coupon for a free memory card or thumb drive. Most recently I got a free 32 GB thumb drive. If you need anything for your computer, I recommend checking out Micro Center. read more

I brought a friend here to look for a new computer. While we were browsing, we were approached by three different sales people. Two of them didn't seem to know the products at all or know how to help us in anyway. They were baffled on giving us any of the specs for the new Google Chrome book. The third person was helpful and seem to know what he was doing, but I don't know why the first two walked away without getting us what we wanted to buy. They ended up being out of stock of the thing we wanted, so we walked out empty-handed. My experience with the sales people makes me reluctant to come back to try and buy something if I need guidance. I found myself at Best Buy a few days later only looking for a cover for my iPad, and the salesperson explained the specs of every iPad mini cover they had and stayed with me until I found what I wanted to buy.
