Yeah NerdCenter! This place is fantastic because it has a very wide range of products concerning all things electronics. Things are clearly labeled, and there is usually a fairly wide selection of things to choose from. You can get the Microsoft one, or the Taiwanese version. It's ok. One thing though... YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. If I hadn't counted the pins for my M/F cable I would have been clueless. Luckily the people who work here are very knowledgeable, and impossible to get a hold of. I think the most common question they answer, aside from "where is X?" is "Oh, well is that good or bad?" So many people in here crowding around the associates and annoying them with questions that could be answered by reading the side of the box. I did a stupid the first time I came here by asking for a sound card without model number. The guy smiled and looked behind my back (even though I told him it was a desktop) to see if I was hiding it. He was being a royal smartass but I got the point. Bring the information for whatever you are trying to purchase equipment for. The cashiers were talking about someone named "Jigga" but I didn't get to meet him. All in all a place to get cheaper consumer electronics. ----------------------- SIDE NOTE: Walking back I saw a normal-looking guy reach into a bush that was growing on the fence, grab a berry and pop it in his mouth. In my closed mind I bought male to female, when I actually needed female to female. I really need to be more open. It was no problem, but make sure you go to the Service Desk for returns. Love this place. I had a couple of old drives recovered and they were not only successful but professional, timely and the cost was very fair. Everyone seems to have forgotten that the value of working with local companies over big brand options. I honestly don't even think it would have been cheaper to go to best buy or whatever, but the personalized service, the ease of being able to get updates from an actual human, the manager coming and thanking me for coming by, the service and craftsmanship warranties, and just the general trust was so worth it. Not to mention this place has great products, awesome deals, no annoying marketing tactics, a great website, and they are generous to their employees. 5 stars read more

When I dropped my MacBook Pro 2 years ago I ran to the Apple store to get it repaired. An Apple store employee told me unfortunately, they were fully booked for the next few days. He then told me to go to Microcenter - and I am so thankful he did! Not only did they repair my computer days sooner than I was told at Apple, they backed my computer up, restoring everything I thought I'd lost. Fast forward two years. I had this same laptop in my lap, open. When I picked up my phone to answer a call I accidentally dropped it, tapping my screen. My computer stopped working. Couldn't even connect it to an external display. I was far less anxious about it this time because I knew where to go. Microcenter did not disappoint. They were amazing, fast, and basically returned to me a new computer. They know what they're doing, they understand we are all going to them anxiously, and they remember who we are. I'm not the most generous person with my 5-stars, but the fact that this place has 3 stars is bonkers. Maybe I'm a padawan Bostonian, but I haven't seen a place like this since 80s Radioshack. The store literally has everything you could possibly need for your electronics projects. Wires, tools, solder, leds, lcds, not to mention a pretty reasonably priced selection of all the normal electronic store stuff. It's also got a wide selection of computer parts, so I'll definitely be back to buy components to destroy in an attempt to build a computer. I was in the market for a new laptop, and with so many on the market now I needed some guidance. I told Dillon the specs I wanted, and what was important for me in a portable battlestation, he was absolutely helpful! He ended up asking me more questions trying to pinpoint and finetune the search for my gear. He gave me three recommendations and went over each one stating why it would and wouldn't be the best for the job. I've never been to a store that tries so hard to make the simple so difficult and keep customers away. 1. Their website search filter isn't effective. You get a myriad of products that AREN'T what you're looking for...or "not in stock" when I know I just saw the thing in another search. 2. Forget trying to talk to a person on the phone. Choose an option on the phone and get told to text your question or go to a community page. How fun to take 3 steps instead of 1 or 2 for a simple question. 3. I accidentally selected 2 items, and I couldn't simply delete 1 from the cart. You have to delete all items, go back to shopping, and re-select the item. That is ridiculous. This is such a clunky website -- you'd think a tech store would have the talent and resources to design an easier shopping experience. The only reason I bought something here is because no one else carried a specific cable I needed in a short time. Otherwise, I avoid coming here as much as possible. read more

I bought both my work laptop and my personal one there within the last year or so. I needed both to be serviced at the same time recently. Lots of staff, an easy price matching policy and easy returns. My biggest issue is I doubt the quality of the products they are being sent. I've purchased 5 gaming monitors from the Cambridge store and have had to return all 5 for out of the box dead pixels. Worst buying experience I've ever had. Rudest service industry worker I've ever encountered, operations manager Peter D. Stay away. Was recommended by a sales rep on 1/10 to arrive on 1/11 10:30 am to try to find a GTX1060. Was warned that there was now a 2 card per day limit. I arrived today (1/11) at 10:15am, found a GTX1060 and reserved it, with a Microcenter warranty, and some networking equipment. Upon trying to pick the card up at the front was rudely told by operations manager Peter D. that I would not be allowed to purchase the card, because there was now a 2 GPU limit per household, and my friend had purchased 2 cards the previous week. Why should that matter? I calmly explained that we were not part of the same household, and asked for a reason. Was given none. Instead Peter snapped at me that he's not selling me any cards. Acted like I was trying to steal from him, rather than spend $500. Never mind that their actual policy, as communicated by the rep was 2 cards per day and I was looking for 1. Never mind that I had purchased 0 cards that day, and 2 lifetime (the previous week, before policy went into effect). Never mind that their sales rep had recommended me my current course of action. The real problem is that I was treated like absolute doggerel for trying to patronize their business, by the most senior person on the floor that day. Call to Microcenter corporate unfortunately resulted in promises of a rapid response, and no calls back. I can only assume they don't care. I can only assume they want us to shop at Amazon and Newegg. read more

Sales associate, Evan Foun, at this location was phenomenal, he was able to help me and my boyfriend right away. We went to Micro Center all the way from Enfield, CT (a hour and 30 minute drive), in order to start completely new PC builds for a cheap price. We were worried from some of the negative reviews (especially on Yelp), that employees would take advantage of us and try to sell parts simply for commission and not its quality, because I was seeing this quite a lot. I was going in completely unknowledgeable about computers, so I was scared I was going to be very vulnerable and easy to manipulate. My boyfriend was the only one with pretty basic knowledge on computers, because he had built his own PC back in 2015 (a long time ago compared to how computers are now). Luckily, this was not the case, and Evan truly cared about our preferences and how our PC would come out. I was truly scared an employee was going to recommend the wrong things for the wrong reasons. Evan knew a lot about computers, he was fun to talk to, assisted us quickly and 100% stayed within our price range we gave him. My range was 1k-1.2k and my boyfriends highest was 1.5k. It was very impressive, and he told us exactly what we needed for the things we wanted to do on our PC's. I was looking for simply a better than average gaming computer, and my boyfriend was looking for a gaming computer but also a computer he could use adobe products on and be able to render videos/art without having to worry about taking up too much space, how the quality would end up coming out, or how slow his computer might go. He needed a PC that could take almost anything for the things he wants to do in his art career. I really loved Evan and Micro center so much that I already am recommending both him and the store to my friends, and I think it was definitely worth the drive. We told Evan as soon as we left that we really appreciated and respected his help and that we would definitely be leaving him good word, both on Yelp and the Micro Center website. If you are unsure on visiting this location because of the negative reviews, I would recommend asking for Evan Foun, (his email is efound@microcenter.com), because he GENUINELY cares about the customer and knows what he's talking about. Not perfect by any means, but still the ONLY place around to buy computer hardware at a very reasonable price (at least compared to the big box stores). And they DO pricematch Amazon, possibly Newegg too. Of course, where they can't match Newegg is the lack of MA sales tax...oh well, can't have everything right? The sales people are hit and miss, some great, some so-so. Customer service is not super quick nor super friendly, just so you know. But then again if you don't want to wait for a whole week for stuff from Newegg to arrive, this is about the only option. read more

Website says $99 for screen repair (and literally no option right now to speak to anyone there to get any clarification - I tried throughout the day). I made an appointment and schlepped out there on Mother's Day to be told that the $99 is only for service - screen itself is $180 for a chromebook that cost $1 less than the total repair cost. Absolute robbery. There are a zillion places that will charge less than $99 for the total fix and won't mislead customers by displaying an inaccurate price - and they'll also answer phone calls and provide other ways to contact them. read more

I always have great experiences with the staff at Micro Center, but Yonas went above and beyond today. The service and repair line had many customers in it with one who was very vocally upset regarding issues with some of his recent purchases which were most likely due to user error. Yonas handled this situation with more patience, politeness, advice, and options to resolve the issue than I thought the customer deserved - all while assisting the other customers in line with their issues. This is my first experience with the service and repair center, but I was very impressed by Yonas' customer service and knowledge. read more

Not so happy after driving 20 mi to pickup my online order during the pandemic time. The customer pickup shelfs did not have my item and the cashier was asking me to go inside the store and get it. Why would I make online order and come to pickup If I have to go inside and search for my item. I asked the cashier to get a sales man to get the item. The sales guy first shows up after 10 min and reads my order and goes to find it. He returns after 20 min with a wrong item and leaves. Again I have to tell the casher to get that sales guy to get the right item. He comes after 10 min and asked me to wait until he gets the right one. Waited for 20 min in cash counter and saw this guy helping other customers and not focusing on my order. Felt not good with this ill treatment while I am standing near the exit door and see 50 guys walk out during this pandemic time. Wasted close to 2 hours of my time time plus 40 miles of driving. This store does not deserve my dime anymore. This happened in Westmont store in IL. read more

I guess that's to be expected at a computer store, but customer service is not their strong suit. A lot of the cashiers have bad attitudes and act inconvenienced to scan your items and ring you up. You can find somethings cheaper with some internet searching, but very few things were priced at the 'rip off' levels of some other big name electronics places. I got a great deal on an Acer Computer, an extra discount was thrown in for anti virus software for being a repeat customer (it was my first time there). Is MicroCenter perfect? Hell no. You will want to scream at how slow customer service takes to get to you. The 'dedicated' sales associate who helps you, makes you feel like you're at a used car lot. But in the end, they're knowledgeable, helpful and you walk out with some pretty good deals. Just make sure you're not in a rush when you come here. read more

I've been coming to Microcenter for 8 years. The sales people are always extremely helpful. They have competitive prices on 90% of their items, however there is a small percentage of products you can find elsewhere for cheaper. I purchased a Macbook here, and purchased a 3 year insurance plan for ~$450. I had some issues with it about a year later and it was fixed within a week. I love that they have such a wide variety of technology and everything else you may need. read more

Awful awful service. They sold me broken RAM brand new, which cost me $160 at a local shop to diagnose. Micro Center wouldn't refund me for the service. Right after, either my motherboard or processor, both bought from them and on warranty, fails, and they continuously lie to me there can't possibly be anything wrong with it. A technician later admitted to me they plug it into a diagnostics computer and never actually turn it on. So I was essentially repeatedly lied to and my time was wasted. This would have been a $40 charge each of the several times I had the boards tested had I not had the warranty. It takes 5 trips back and forth for them to finally fix the issue since it was returned to me with them claiming it worked multiple times. They also wiped all the data on one of my drives for no reason whatsoever. They refunded me nothing for my time, and when they finally agreed to refund me due to the warranty, they make me pay the difference for the replacement pieces. At checkout, they tried to charge me almost an additional $100 for more warranties I never asked for or was asked about. They just said 'Your total is this much' and I caught them. They then loaded my $1000+ computer into a defective cart they knew had a broken weld. The scumbag manager who shook my hand the 4th out of 5th time I visited and gave me his card then never responded to my email. An absolute scam. They do not respect their customer's time or money. Please never buy from these people again and get your components from newegg instead. read more

Can I just start by saying this is one of the biggest scams in all of history. They basically have a monopoly on computer building considering they're the only people in the area that do what they do. let's just say spending over thousands of dollars with this company means absolutely nothing to customer service and sales is the only thing they care about. Their sales people literally don't check to see if anything is compatible they are just there to sell you more and more. After spending an initial $900 on a build, their service department will charge you $100 to diagnose any issues and another 150 to reassemble the computer. They make this very clear when you call in too. Their number one priority is money, that's it. take this from someone who spent $1500 in five weeks driving back-and-forth to deal with this company and it's poor customer service, avoid it at ALL COSTS! I'm honestly convinced it's easier and more efficient to buy each part used or online. Even if the shipping will take weeks, working with Micro Center will take much longer! 8/22/20. Even the damage control team can't do their jobs. Micro Center has asked me to email them multiple times about my experience and I have. Still no response. 8/24/20. Finally made the drive to micro center to return my stuff. Was charged around $100 for restocking fees on items without packaging. I'm satisfied that they took my returns back but of course they found a way to make their money though! Glad I could pay for the employees' lunches on that special day :) read more

However i called today to speak with someone from the tech support, to ask a question about a computer case i bought there 10 days ago that i am having some issues with ( by the way i paid $50 more for the case there over best buy ) , and the guy on the phone was extremely rude , unprofessional and even yelled at me when he didn't understand my question . Bought 1pad for $300 added 2 yr warranty for $69.95 . Was told if anything happens within 2 yrs bring it in to fix for free. My daughter broke her iPad for the 2nd time. And was told that they won't fix it becus the warranty only covers $299 worth of repairs ( the cost of my ipad) and becus the screen has been fixed before for $250. I wouldn't be able to fix the iPad screen for for 2nd time. I still have 1 yr remaining on the 2 yr warranty. They offered to buy my ipad for $50. Although I was told there was no saving the computer, Yonas and his team were extremely helpful in recovering my data for me. I dropped my computer off and they called me just 3 hours later saying I could pick it up. Dillon from the sales team helped me to buy my new computer and was extremely personable. The new MacBook Pro that I bought from Micro Center was $200 less than it would have been at Apple! Throughout this stressful process I felt supported by entire technician team and could tell that they were invested in getting my data back on my computer and ready to use in time for class! I have been shopping here since it opened. (How many of you used the GOPHER protocol?). I have only used them once for computer repair (I almost always know enough to do that myself, and they did fine on that task), but when I have been really hung up, their free tech support (for any product they sold) has been a huge help to me. Like many others I occasionally buy from the eggboys, or hugeforest, but I often find prices at Micro Center lower. Last night I just brought a samsung 1 Tb NVMe SSD for less than any other reliable outlet was selling it. When it comes to Micro Center, if needed, I am often willing to pay a somewhat higher price for many purchases because of no hassle refunds, tech support, local jobs, etc. As to the "no women or no blacks on staff", I have dealt with more than a few exemplary black sales-people there, and seen the store hire many women, including a very good friend of mine. read more
