I feel fortunate that we have a Micro Center in our city. Even though it is small, it is still a great place to go for technology products. Whether you are looking for printer supplies, charging components, or devices such as phones, tablets, computers, etc., you can find good quality at a reasonable price. The selection isn't abundant, but you can get what you need to get by. The staff here are great. They are generally hands-off, but if you need their help, they are knowledgeable and will assist you. Even when I think my questions might stump them, they are willing to pull out a product, test a hypothesis, and give me a working solution to my problem. Whenever I need something right away, I will come here first to get it rather than order online.

My laptop was old. It worked, but it was really slow. It took it a long time to start up. I had to wait several minutes for it to verify that none of my thousands of decades old photos is a viral threat every time I turned the power on. Performance dropped to almost nothing while it banged the hell out of my hard drive. Installing annual tax software apps was out of the question because my operating system was too old. It was time to retire the beast. I did some checking online and found a Dell laptop that suits my needs, with a decent size solid state hard drive. Not interested in anything from HP any more, but that's another story. Of course, one thing leads to another. My old monitor only has a vga input. Another item headed for the scrap heap. Not going to try using a cable that's supposed to convert HDMI (digital) to VGA (analog). Amazing things you can do with wire? Headed across town to visit Micro Center. Everybody was friendly and helpful. People even wanted to make sure my wife was comfortable while I was talking to an associate that I was able to snag and ask about a hundred questions. Mr. D. Thompson was very helpful. He showed me the Dell laptop and monitor I was wanting and didn't try to up-sell me on anything. We also discussed options to replace my dreaded HP printer because it certainly won't be compatible. Mr. Thompson also reminded me to turn off s mode on the laptop, so I can run app that aren't from Microsoft. I wouldn't have remembered that tip, from year gone by. He also had good advise on virus protection. I made my purchase and didn't break the bank. Their prices were really in line with the prices I saw online. Considering this and the great service we received, I highly recommend Micro Center.

I had a great service experience here while helping a family member out of state purchase a CPU. I walked in with a picture of the item and two employees pointed me to the correct area of the store. Once there, I showed it to another employee who gave me a slip of paper to pick up the item at the register. Easy! It's the holidays and they had multiple registers open and the line moved quickly. I was in and out in about 20 minutes.

This place is huge and also has a large parking lot that is easy to get in and out of. So many choices. Was impressed with the large staff they had they were very helpful and not pushy they answered all my questions and seemed to not want to push you into buying something you didn't need or want. I would highly recommend them if you need a new computer or computer accessories.

    Do you sell gift cards?

Gift cards are under Accessories, or just search for gift cards. Apparently they are only for Apple products. There is NO link for looking up your balance. I'm trying to get an answer to that presently.

Upon pulling up to this location, you see a large banner on the side of the building touting a collaboration between Staples and the defunct Party City. This is a partnership that brings in balloons, helium and other event items. This could be a smart move by Staples to integrate special event items. "Oh, Debbie from Accounting is celebrating her 10 year anniversary with the company?" You can pick up a balloon bouquet and streamers while you're picking up some toner. It's not a bad pivot, it's just that first and foremost, I think the selection in their office supplies is narrowed to make room for stuff like this and some ginormous bargain bins I'll go into momentarily. Problem is I think Staples prices are steep, and it's not like you are getting exceptional service or an immaculate atmosphere to make up for it. I only find myself at Staples as a last resort. On this occasion, I had come for some packing supplies. I begrudgingly paid the ridiculously high prices because I needed the supplies, but time and time again, I find Staples is not synonymous with value, or the breadth of selection I would expect in 2026. While I was making my way from the furthest reaches of the store (which is where they keep the shipping supplies) to checkout, I was temporarily distracted by some curiously large bins that held some of the most random things. Things you would not expect to find at a Staples. Things like nose strips, multipacks of paprika (yes, the spice), romance novels...basically junk. This stuff gets put out once a week and each successive day, the price of the items in the bins gets reduced. It's like troughs of crud. I'd much rather them focus on bringing in the best assortment of office supplies instead of diverting to bargain basement tactics. Instead, I'd like to see more selection of office supplies at better prices. It's really that simple.

See below: * After Laura stalked off and made us wait an additional five minutes, "In case her next scheduled applicant arrives", which they didn't, she grudgingly escorted my wife to the CLEAR kiosk. * Upon walking to the kiosk I was met with a disturbing attitude from Laura. She was very dismissive and rude. While wearing a mask and speaking in a low voice I had to ask her to repeat herself several times. I mentioned I was hard of hearing, and after recently having cataract surgery the fine print was hard to read. This obviously annoyed her and I was made to feel stupid for my requests . She was adamant that I needed to show proof of a prior marriage name change, as well as a birth certificate to show my name at birth. The website did not say these documents were required so I came prepared to show my passport and ID as required. She was very defiant and rude throughout the whole process. I worked in retail management for over 40 years, I understand how hard it is to work with the public. Which is why I try to conduct myself in a calm and respectful manner. This employee, Laura, needs a refresher course on such. When the process was finished, I apologized for the above confusion. Her response was terse, and hateful replying that there was no confusion, implying that we were the problem. I hope this complaint does not go on deaf ears. This was seriously the worst customer service experience I've ever had. Now, I don't anticipate any corrective action will be administered to this said employee, as Laura has complaints online going back well over a year on Google and YELP. My concern and main complaint is twofold: * How many people has she sent packing with incorrect info that came to Staples in good faith needing a passport and/or TSA PreCheck? * How many people has she sent packing never to give Staples another thought and taking their business elsewhere, i.e., Amazon, Walmart, or Best Buy? It's no wonder that Staples (under the ownership of Sycamore partners) is failing as a company.

    Id Software

A Yelp business listing already exists for id Software. Guess I'll be the first to review…read more id (the "id" is lowercase) was founded in 1991 by famous computer programmers John Carmack and John Romero, plus two coworkers, and is headquartered Richardson, Texas, an affluent suburb of Dallas. This company was instrumental to the games industry. They developed Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake and popularized the first-person shooter (FPS) genre. I played the original installments of all three of these franchises on PC. I also played Commander Keen. I still remember spending the night at my friend Greg's house and playing Wolfenstein 3D (1992) for the first time. This was before the days of the internet so everyone knew about this game through word of mouth and computer magazines. It was incredibly popular. We hadn't seen anything like it, both on a visual level (full 360-degree first-person perspective) and on a violence level (blood). This was around the same time Mortal Kombat started appearing in arcades, but it didn't show up on home consoles until about a year later. In Wolfenstein 3D, you kill Nazis and eventually Hitler. Gun violence, swastikas, Nazis, Hitler... a great game for kids! As elementary school children, the swastikas didn't really register with us. From movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, I simply knew Nazis and Hitler were bad. I admit I obtained bootlegged copies of Doom and Quake from overseas (Asia). Doom (1993) and Quake (1996) upped the ante. Better gameplay, weapons, graphics, sound effects, and music. More gore, more intensity. In Doom, you fight demons, ghoul-looking creatures, zombies, etc. In Quake, you fight monsters. Doom introduced the BFG a.k.a. the Big F***ing Gun. Many incarnations of the BFG have been used in various Doom and Quake versions since. I played Doom multiplayer with my friends using dial-up internet. The multiplayer was actually pretty decent with little to no lag. It was a lot of fun. I also played the Super Nintendo versions of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, but preferred the PC versions because of the keyboard and mouse controls. On the keyboard, keys W and S are used move forward and back, and keys A and D are used to strafe left and right. The mouse controlled which direction to look. While a keyboard wasn't designed to be played with FPS games, the "WASD" control scheme turned out to be very effective and is still in use today. I never got good at FPS games except for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (1997) where I owned almost everyone I played on the Internet Gaming Zone (now known as MSN Games). id Software's games have spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs, and even books and movies. Doom the movie came out in 2005 starring Karl Urban and "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson. Every year since 1996, QuakeCon has been held in Dallas. QuakeCon is pretty much an id Software gaming convention. They have a giant LAN party, game tournaments, and crown at least one champion each year.
