Service is impressively awful. Family tried to buy me a gift remotely after I had shoulder surgery. Microcenter refused to sell a computer without them being here, in person, to do the purchase. My experience was absolutely horrendous. After ordering a laptop on 11/10, I was concerned about the long wait time. I called a couple of times, but the wait time to get someone on the phone was ridiculous. Today, I finally had the time to wait for a chat assistant, they explained my order was cancelled on 11/11 and I did not see the email because it was in my Junk mail. They did not know why the order was canceled, except for the fact that the charge was "not approved" (I later called my bank and determined that was not true) by the credit card company. That was extremely odd, as I use this card every day for company business. The charge was barely a thousand dollars, which is a smaller charge for my card (nothing that would need to approved) and balance was well below the max. After my chat session, I asked if I could reorder my laptop (I really need it for work) and the chat associate said "no" can't do that with the chat help. Fine, whatever. So, I call and wait for OVER an hour to speak with someone. "Jacob" gets on the phone (finally) and is literally the rudest person I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with on the phone. His attitude and tone nearly sent me into a blind rage after the hours of waiting and nonsense of dealing with this sh*t show of an establishment. He still could not tell me what was not approved, and like I mentioned, my bank said that the charge was approved and pending, they were just waiting on the merchant (Micro Center) to request the funds. So, that was also total nonsense. I read later on, in the cancelation email I found, that the cancelation could be due to the item not being in stock. However, when I asked about that and tried to reorder the item, I was expressly told that was not the case. Long story short, I ordered the laptop from someone else and Micro Center will never have my business, ever. If my experience today with Jacob is the level of customer service they aspire to, I honestly don't know how they stay in business. read more

I live in San Antonio TX and Micro Center use to be my favorite store. Always made a side trip to visit this store when in Houston. Last December I purchased an iPad for my son as a gift. I am not a fan of Apple so I purchased the protection plan to cover everything that may happened to it. Sure enough as soon as he starts using it on December 25th it starts acting weird, doing random restarts and booting to a white screen which just got worse over the next few weeks. To the point it would no longer boot or allow you to restore the IOS. Drove to Houston to take it to Micro Center, waited 30 minutes to talk to a tech on a weekday, to be told I needed to restore the OS. I told them it would not let you and it was defective. They verified it could not be restored but said is was not covered by their protection plan and sent me away with a malfunctioning iPad. If I wanted to smash the iPad on the ground and bring it back they would have replaced it but I had already invested in screen protectors and a case to protect it. Went back to San Antonio and took it to Apple who told me in 5 minutes that the RAM in the tablet was defective and it needed to be replaced. Called Micro Center and informed them of this Apple decision. They told me to let Apple take care of it but could not ensure that the replacement iPad I would receive from Apple would still be covered by their plan due to the different SN. The iPad was only a month old and they would no longer refund the cost of my plan. Needless to say Apple has replaced it and I will no longer be making time to go to Micro Center in the future. read more

NEVER BEEN MORE UPSET IN MY LIFE! I have been a customer at MicroCenter for many years, and one thing that i really appreciated was the customer service. I visited the South Rice Location, to price laptops and iPads for my company expecting to spend 10k yearly on tech. After getting my pricing together I decided to look for a tool kit for my current Mac. After fumbling around for 5 minutes I notice 2 employees pass by. The gentleman that passed me by first was in a rush, while the latter was not, he was clearly not preoccupied. This gentleman ended up being the general manager. Jeff was very rude when I politely asked him to help me find a product. It shocked me when I tried to look at his badge and It read GENERAL MANAGER. Jeff acted as if I was inconveniencing him, or wasting his time(I really couldn't tell). He did answer my initial question but with a demeaning undertone. At this point I started to look for the product myself, and once I found It my exact words were thanks I found It. He then answers in the most pretentious tone "I was going to get someone for you" (several mins after i had asked for his help). I walked off and laughed mainly because I was in shock, as I walked away I heard him mimic my laugh! Need less to say I am very disappointed and will take my business to Amazon! read more

The place to be for all your tech needs! What more can you ask for? I love shopping at Micro Center mainly for PC parts. Prices are good, staff is friendly and knowledgeable and customer service is fantastic! In the past week I had to return a clearance/open box video card that had issues and I was taken care of in a professional manner by the customer service team. I had to come back again that same day to return a new video card because it was defective right out of the box and they took care of me and made sure I left a happy customer. I left with a brand new card (Price matched!) but I have to return this one also due to two of the fans making loud rattling noises but I did talk to a Tech Support representative over the phone from Micro Center and he helped me determine the issue and told me what I should do. Store's great, stuff they sell are generally cheaper and have wider selections and generally knowledgeable staff. If you consider yourself something of a tech enthusiast, in any definition of the term, you should come here or Fry's instead of Best Buy. However, this review is for their Apple Technical repairs services at the Knowledge Bar. Don't use them, they are Apple Certified Reseller/Technician, what this means is that, at least on Apple products, they don't actually perform repairs so much as replacements. They pretty much do the exact same thing as any Apple Store. Now, for my story, I brought in a used Macbook Pro for a diagnostics. The laptop was not running off its battery, and it doesn't recognize that a battery's installed, this means that if it's not a battery issue, then it's a logic board issue, and if it's a logic board issue, I would like to know where and how I can fix it without replacing the whole thing. I brought my laptop in, the customer support guy assured me that the diagnostics service here is more in depth than your average diagnostics done at an Apple Store. Having charged $40, I believed it too, because Apple Stores apparently do very light diagnostics for free. I waited 4 days for the Apple technician to call back with results because he doesn't work there everyday, I was finally told that it's not a battery issue, it's a board issue, because he tried a number of batteries and none of them are recognized. So I asked him, if the problem is a board issue, where exactly is the issue? Is it a resistor? Is it bad connection somewhere? He did not know, and he could not know. All he told me is that it would cost $700 for a new board not including labor, and that's his recommendation. To be an Apple Certified Technician, you're not allowed to mess with their boards. Essentially I paid $43 after tax to have a guy unplug and plug in batteries for me. For context, I later took it in to an independent technician at Startronic2 (guy's name is George, super honest and very experienced guy, highly recommended) to look at my laptop. He originally quoted me $125 to for diagnostics+possible fix. Called me back the very afternoon, told me exactly where the problem was, he believe it was a missing tracer, and offered to apply the tracer. But at the end he was not able to fix the problem, and did not charge me a cent. I later found out that most independent repair centers all offer free diagnostics, and they actually do diagnostics, i.e. use voltmeters to test for shorts in the circuit board. Moral of this story: if you have an problem Apple product, don't pay $40 for diagnostics, especially not here, and certainly don't pay for logic board replacements. Most logic board problems could be fixed by reapplying connections. End rant. read more

Microcenter as a store is awesome - but the management and staff here are seriously lacking. Did 2 custom builds via their service department, both which were unsucessfull - first one the sales rep grabbed the wrong case for installation and they ran out of stock on the one I requested (honest mistake?? maybe..) and the 2nd time they short circuited the motherboard (dont pay $129 for this level of expertise build help). Of course... i requested a refund and according to their policy - was well within my rights. The manager went ahead and refunded me.... except two weeks later no refund had appeared. I've been going back and forth with them - they admit a mistake was made and that the refund wasnt processed. Started processing the refund... can only refund $500 or so because they cant find the proper receipts / purchase orders. I have everything in hand, but they cant seem to coordinate their systems to properly handle this. Its a nightmare dealing with them - managers do not have contact numbers, lack the right information to fix this, etc. Hoping my bank can take care of this via the chargeback mechanism. read more

I have LOVED ​​Houston area Micro Center and have spent​ ​many thousands ​​​​$$$ there. Last night, I was SOOO excited to see the ​Dell store within the ​new ​Micro Center Store. I was planning on the purchase of a new HD 4K Dell monitor and computer. I had rec'd the Dell coupons in the mail and was definitely interested in a good (Great) deal. I spent a long time trying to find a sales associate but once Nicholas & I connected, it was smooth. He worked HARD to find the products that I wanted. He had to look all over the store as the Dell products are VERY difficult to find and are not near the shelf tags. I spent hours shopping for the items. We discovered a "open box" of the monitor that I wanted - it had been returned but was NOT "refurbished or factory re-certified" - just open box. We checked the 2 coupons by Dell which clearly stated it was not to be used on "refurbished or factory re-certified" items but it didn't address "open box or clearance" items (which was obviously a store markdown, not a Dell markdown). Nicholas & I saw that the coupons appeared to apply to my items. He then got called away and I engaged another associate to help to locate the computer tower Hard drive that I was interested in and I noted that there was an open box for that item as well when we looked it up - at that time the manager, Charles, walked by and informed me that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES would he EVER honor these coupons for me on these items. He said the "items have to be new" to get use the coupon . I remarked that the coupons didn't say that and the fine print didn't address open box. He was rude to me in the presence of 3 sales associates and 2 other customers and was demeaning in his manner and tone. He said "I don't care how much money you are spending in this store, I'm not honoring those coupons" and "I don't care what the coupon says". He walked off and left me standing there, mouth agape. I have NEVER been treated in that manner in Micro Center - EVER. I have had manager assistance in the past and it has always been pleasant and helpful. I was SHOCKED. I had spent literally hours picking out my merchandise with the sales assistants. It was the most outrageous treatment I have ever received as a customer. I was stunned and saddened as this was the high point of my Saturday I had been carrying that coupon with me since I rec'd it, waiting to go shop at my favorite store. To be treated in that manner was beyond comprehension. The sales associates around me (not Nicholas) then vanished. I stood there stunned. I decided not to buy anything that had been in my basket other than a card reader- the ~$1500 sale was lost. Most of all, I was saddened to be treated this way in my FAVORITE stor​e where I was going to purchase my new Dell computer and monitor that I had literally planned for for weeks. I LOVE this place. I've been a dedicated customer ever since I found them about 6 years ago. Prices are usually pretty good too, especially if you keep an eye out for the open box sales. Definitely a techie's haven. Only downside (if you can call it that) is that the items on the shelf are usually cheaper than the display. Went here last Friday Jan 20th around 2 or 3 pm. Second time here in a week to look for a new pc. I previously purchased 2 pc's here. I tested out 2 pc's that day, an Acer and a Dell. I decided on the Dell which was about $599.99, the Acer was about $549. I spent about an hour. I was given a copy of Virusware and also purchased a years warranty. Salesman gave me his card and told me to do a survey later. Standing in line with the spec sheet waiting to pay I noticed that it's pc's features were almost entirely different from the Dell I chose, but same price. I pointed this out to the salesman he checked and realized it wasn't the same pc and apologized. I believe he showed this to the manager I had previously met. And the manager said something to him regarding the tag and that was it. The salesman just told me that it was an outdated tag and the Dell I was testing was not even the correct pc I wanted to purchase and it was no longer available! Waste of time. He apologized again and I looked again at the Acer and soon just got irritated at having made the decision to purchase the Dell and realizing they no longer carried the pc. Very very poor customer service, ineffective, and bad attitude. We walked in and did our check in at the customer service desk. We got #2 on the waiting list. Waited for like half hour seeing the worker chatting with some white people who were not on the waiting list. Then, after the worker called #1 person's name who didn't show up, we thought ok it's our turn (our name moved to the top). So we were about to walk to the worker's desk, then suddenly saw him already started serving the #3 person and somehow our name was removed from the screen and the worker even did not call our name! My boyfriend confronted the worker why we were not served before the third person and the worker responded "This is a free service and I'm not responsible for taking care of anyone." My boyfriend got really mad and his voice did go up but he didn't yell. Then the worker responded "if you don't change your attitude I'm not going to help you" and gave us a very bad tempered face. Eventually my boyfriend apologized for being "not nice enough". I really wanted to ask, was this because our attitude really bad, or this was because we are Asian. read more

DO NOT GO THERE, They Destroyed my Apple MacBook Pro Please read the previous bad reviews that other left already . DO NOT TAKE YOUR COMPUTER FOR A REPAIR THERE I wished that I checked the reviews before I went to the store !!!! My Mistake ..... Here is my story. I brought in my MacBook Pro there to change the drive per Apple recommendation as they did a diagnosis at Apple store... They told me they will do in depth than the average diagnosis and that will cost $ 42 . At that point my Laptop was powered on and i had no problems with my display at all. I asked them to check the price for my CD drive as it was not working . They told me that it will take few days until someone will Call you back with the repair order. Got a weird text message saying "can get a video externally but the display backlight is failing .The cost of all 3 parts with Labor is $800 plus Tax ,Let me know" WHAT ... yes that was the exact text I received !!!!! I felt maybe they are texting the wrong person !!! Later they said this is from MicroCenter regarding your MacBook Pro, then I was texting back and forth and i had to wait few mins for them to replied back !!! to make the story short. I texted the person if someone can give me a call back to understand what is going on , No one called or texted back ...... when i was at Apple store they showed me that i have a bad drive through the diagnosis they done there at my Computer ,Now they said i have to change the display !!! and they told me you can still use it if you connect it to an external monitor or TV!!! So I was waiting for someone to call me back for few mins , No one called, so i called the store i checked in the unit , NO ONE Answered , so I Text back the # saying DO NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE ANYTHINGS UNTIL I TALK TO SOMEONE , No reply .So i went Back to the store to talk to anyone there , Then i found out they replaced the Drive which i told them to not replace it and that was 20 mins ago !!!!!!!! they asked me to pay $137 for it , I showed the person in the front the text that i wrote down to not repair !!! They Called the Service Manger His Name is Richard Chambers . I told him the story and i showed him the texting and i asked him to replace my Old Drive back as i did not authorize the repair ....He told me that no one can do that for you now as the technician for Apple left already come back tomorrow !!!! it was 7.30 pm and they close at 9 pm , I did not buy that for sure, I also noticed that the time on the Work notes said that i approved the repair for the drive was not matching the time !!!! I asked them WHY THE TIME HERE IS NOT MATCHING !!! they said oh we don't know !!!! Then I felt so uncomfortable and there is somethings fishy here. I told the manger i need to take my computer with me and i am not leaving without it , He kept saying come back tomorrow ,come back tomorrow and i told him Sir, i am not comfortable leaving my computer here , After few min , I told him that i will voice record the conversation between us and then he didn't wanna talk at all and a Another person came saying we will CALL THE POLICE FOR YOU . You are not talking nice to the manger !!! excuse me ........ talking nice ....... That was Mr.Jeffrey Burch . Then I felt there is no point to talk to them anymore , I paid the money and they got my Mac from inside , I turn it on infront of them all and the display was not working !!! I took a picture for it to prove it not working before i left the store. I told the manger the display was working when i checked it in and the notes on the repair Order showed that it was powers on !!!! then he couldn't explain it and handle me a phone # to call, The Manger told me that he will call me back first things in the Mooring after he talk to the technician !!! it been two days and he never called and i was not expecting him to call either as he showed how he treat his customer ..... I will never shop with Micro Center. I'm quite sure they are flat-out lying about what they're selling and at what prices. First, the website will not allow a customer to check out as "guest". I was forced to create an account. Further, I was forced to create a public screen name. I only wanted to buy a laptop for personal use, not to chat online about them. It took forever to come up with a screen name that wasn't taken. Additionally, the product I was purchasing was only available for in-store pickup. I went through all of this only to find that they cancelled my order shortly after it was placed because the product wasn't in stock. They should not have sold it to me online, for in-store pickup only, at a store that doesn't have the product! I was sick of shopping around so I called them to have the item sent store-to-store from anywhere else. Well they don't do that. Countless other retailers are able to update inventory at each store on their websites and do it with a fairly high level of reliability but Micro Center, who specializes in the tech world can't figure that out nor offer store to store shipping? Beautiful new building. Guess they could not afford cashiers. Pretty important to get the money after you have managed to get a customer in the door. If I stop in to buy an item I expect to be able to pay and get back home. I will not stand in a ten person line to buy anything. I will walk. Two cashiers and one was out of service due to a technical glitch. I manage a small retail store and if we see a line, we as managers are jumping in the serve customers. With me you get one chance to make a first impression. You have to manage from the front of the store. If you do, you see these things. I spoke to a gentleman with a white shirt and a badge but he directed me to talk to the lady "in charge." The door was closer. Guess they will have to restock my purchases. This place is so unprofessional and I manage a retail store. So I call a day before a product was released and the gentleman said the would have it when they opened and if I was there before they opened I would get one. I got there 30 minutes before "opening" but they opened at 9 instead and ran out and gave no one a chance. When I called the day before I asked if there was anyway to pre-pay for it or reserve it just incase something like that happened and the sales associate said there's nothing to worry about and no way to reserve it or hold my place. I walk in and they're out because they decided to open an hour early and they had no reason for that, no sorry or anything and just pushed me on my way like nothing. Horrible way to handle the situation because I was not the only one confused on what happened.while we're standing there for an answer, a customer walks up and picks up his "reserved gpu" and everyone is standing there confused and mad about that because we were all told we couldn't reserve it, So they had me write my name and number on a paper for the next shipment they said would come in the same day and I was one of the earlier people to write my name and still never got a call. When I finally called them to check on the shipment the gentleman was rude and didn't bother to tell me any info or help. Horrible service and bad attitude on the phone and person. Disappointing on so many levels. I have a long history with this company but have only been to the new store on Rice Avenue a few times. My issues revolve around poor customer service and in one specific case lack of demonstrated ownership of my issue by the Manager on Duty. In a nutshell, the response I received was "there is nothing I can do." My issue was part of a repair the store made to a sick computer that took more than three hours for me to exit the store because the repair WAS NOT reviewed before I was called to pick up the item. Then, to make matters worse, I had to wait on three separate lines to get my computer back and THEN wait again for a technician to work on the issue. While working on the issue, a Micro Center Employee told me that I needed to purchase a small USB drive and I did. Unfortunately, the item I was told to get was NOT correct, so I had to wait again on another line. The technician was either too lazy or not empowered to make the swap so I could go home. When all was done, I had an extra USB drive that I didn't need. So, I waited AGAIN on another line just to be told they can't refund my money at the front register so I should go once again to ANOTHER long line where there was one employee working and an additional unmanned register. So, do stores like this ever wonder why the internet is eating them for lunch? Now, back to my USB issue. When I brought up my issue to a Manager, he was uninterested in my plight. At this time it was about 3PM on a Sunday. I entered the store at NOON. Three hours to get my repair. I left with the USB drive I don't need and it sits on my desk reminding me how great the customer service is at Amazon.com Now, let's move ahead a few weeks. Just yesterday I visited the store again. The item I was looking for was in stock offered for sale at a price way more than I wanted to pay. While there, I did look at a Bluetooth keyboard to use with my tablet. Although on sale I was taken back by the price so I decided to wait another day. I am glad I did. The same keyboard on sale at Micro-Center for 39.00 was available from Amazon for about 28.00. (I'll have it on Sunday). But wait, there is more. On the way out I was going to purchase some items that were on end caps. The line to the register was way too long. So, I left - never to return. But the story keeps on going. Both times during the past month while entering the store, I have been approached by a lady in an old car with paper license plates asking for money so she can drive home with her kids. A scam indeed. She, however, was NOT the only person to approach me in the lot. So, not a problem for me as I will not go to this store ever again. I purchased a Dell Computer and suddenly it was not giving any video signal to my monitor...I took it to my regular computer repair company and they informed me the mother board was dead and since it was less than one year old, I ought to take it back to Microcenter. However, I know how companies will often find an excuse not to fulfill their warranty obligations. I literally cleaned the inside of the computer for 2 hours to remove any dust or dirt...that way, they could not state it was my abuse that destroyed the mother board....in fact, my fellow employees saw the effort I took and called me a geek...fast forward...I took it in and after several days they offered to put in a video card but wanted 100 dollars? Why? It was still under warranty...finally a manager told me that it was so dusty inside? They would not honor the warranty until............I VACUUMED IT OUT....wow...it was spotless on the inside since I used Q tips on every surface.........Bottom line, THEY DO NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY ON MAJOR PURCHASES....i WILL NEVER BUY A COMPUTER OR MONITOR FROM THEM EVER AGAIN. read more

bought a new dell computer and the process was very easy. only glitch i had was the computer was loaded with microsoft 365 so i bought the 1 year office upgrade. when i loaded the upgrade all went well until the one month from the original 365 expired and the windows 10 program reduced me to a view only status. so i was essentially shut out. microsoft acknowledged the receipt of the funds for the 1 year program but failed to initiate the software for the year so it took quite a while to get going again trying to manuver through their online help program. only mention that if you do the same i might be good to just have them load it for you there at the store and maybe prevent this from happening to you. other than that i give them a solid 5. read more

The first computer I bought from here was an ASUS that the rep said what a "high quality and reputable" brand. I told him how my whole business is online, thus the computer is the heart of being able to work. After listening to him, I bought an $800 computer that was a "$1200 regular price quality." Luckly, I added insurance, when it ends up crashing every 2 months since day one. I had the motherboard and hard drive replaced so many times, that the insurance funded me for a replacement. With that, I bought my new one, a Toshiba that is also a "high quality computer maker." It ends up crashing in the first 18 months. I took it in when they replaced the hard drive, (like in all the other "high quality" computers) to now bring it home with it saying the RSM battery is crashing. It is obvious they provide insurance knowing they sell crappy computers no one would by otherwise. Apparently the sales reps are liars and/or do not know what a high quality computer is! I will not buy another computer from them. read more
