Micro Center continues to impress and disappoint me at the same time. I was impressed to see small business-focused items in-store like Ubiquiti's ecosystem of networking and security products. They also had other small business-focused items like the Aruba Instant On's and the Meraki Go's. They have a much larger selection of computer components than Best Buy too. The store still seems overly cluttered. There were open items all over the place and it took me a minute to realize that the yellow tags were indicating and item previously used and returned because the labeling is not all that clear. We don't have one of these back home and I didn't make a purchase last time so this time when I did purchase something they captured my information at the front and I figured it was to be able to track my purchase (i.e. to aid with a return if I lost a receipt) but I had barely made it to the car when they started texting me saying that I had been enrolled in text offers. That's not cool. You need to be transparent and purposeful when people share their information with you and had I known that was what you were going to do I would have opted out because we don't even have Micro Center's where I'm from. read more

The process of ordering online and picking up is straight forward and makes getting in and out very acceptable. Any time that I have been in store shopping I was almost annoyed by how many times an associate asked if I needed any help. Love shopping here and will continue to for all my electronic needs. I go to other stores and no one really wants to help or they simply do not know, then try to sell you other products. Have purchased many many items here over the past 10 years. Today I was in the area and stopped in to pick a new NVMe SSD. Took about 3 minutes to find and get what I needed. Unfortunately, the checkout line was a mile a long. This really is the cardinal sin in retail. Nothing highlights a retailers lack of appreciation for the customer more than making them wait to give you their money. I took the SSD back to the counter in back and left. Evan from custom builds was absolutely amazing today! He helped my boyfriend and I for well over an hour and a half to build a custom PC. He knew less than an hour into helping us that we were going to leave and potentially come back to purchase later, and still continued to help us and built two quote sheets for two separate PCs. He showed the utmost care and professionalism in helping us get the best bang for our buck. We ended up coming back about an hour after Evan told us his shift was ending to purchase everything and Joseph was wonderful in not only helping us upgrade a few items on the quote sheet, gathering all items for us, as well as making sure Evan received the entire commission for his hard work with us earlier in the afternoon. Prior, to 2020 I really enjoyed making purchases at Micro Center while in the store. My favorite times were the visits to the Knowledge Bar. Discovering simple information about my computer before checking it in was always great. After the pandemic I noticed the Knowledge Bar people changed some. Meaning sometimes when I got used to certain people changes were made, but I understand. Anytime I need to find a product accessories or printer ink the store persons are helpful. Purchased a Mac for my office, waited five minutes for sales rep to walk to warehouse to place Mac in shopping cart. No problem. Then he walks with me halfway to the Register and stops me in order for me to meet the manager. Now I felt obligated to wait for the manager whom arrives another five plus minutes later. He extended his hand and I shook his hand, which I immediately regretted the hand shaking when I realized that his hand was wet (just left the Men's room or nervous guy?). Stick with a fist bump and if you are not at your station Dont have your salesman delay your customer's exit in order for the honor of shaking your wet hand. read more

I forget to check in. I am disappointed today, I set up for a service repair by online appointment. I arrived 20 minutes early only to end up waiting at the check in counter past my appointment time. I had an employee tell them I was waiting, yet no one came out. I ended up waiting another 15 mins in the regular waiting line to get my PC signed in an excepted. We were out in Houston exploring our new home when we came across micro center. My fiancé always wanted to go into a micro center since our version of micro center (which is Fry's) closed down. We really enjoyed how large the store was and appreciated seeing how well stocked and packed they are. What really bothered me about this visit and still does is the way an employee snapped at my fiancé when asked a simple question. As we obviously are new to micro center, my fiancé simply asked someone in the build your own section a question. He was only asking when the GPU queue opens up. He wasn't asking if they have any in stock or nothing in that manner. This employee literally cut him off and went "Do you really think I would know the answer to that? Don't ask me that. Get in line every morning and find out." That's really upsetting and it was embarrassing to even speak to someone in that way in front of other customers. I wanted to put everything we had in our hands down and walk off but another employee who was very kind pulled us to the side and simply explain the gpu process and policy at micro center. To the employee (you know who you are) who decided to speak like this, you work in build your own. Who else did you expect us to ask? I understand its probably hectic with phone calls, the constant stock questions and angry people upset about GPUs being out of stock and I'm sorry that NVidia put absolute stress on you guys the last 7 months, but that is no way to speak to someone. We plan to give this place one more chance in the fact that maybe this employee had a bad day and everyone has a bad day. read more

I got here super early... like hours before opening because we didn't know what the process was if you wanted to buy something high in demand, so I wanted to describe the process for any Yelpers who decided to check out Yelp before their FAQ page. It's a random drawing so don't get there super early... get there maybe 5-10 minutes before 8am because that's when the form for the virtual line opens. Look for a QR code... it'll be on a piece of paper taped to the poles. Scan the QR code. It'll take you to a form. Fill it out, and it'll tell you to wait back in the car. You should get a text confirmation and another text if you get drawn. Get back in line, and someone will come out and call you in the order of the drawing (so order in line doesn't matter). Again, the drawing is random. The person I was with signed up for the virtual line later than me but name was drawn before me. They'll line you up according to order name was drawn and ask you what you're here to buy. Tell them what you want, and they'll tell you if it's in stock and give you the order form. From there you just go inside and follow the crowd, and that's it! read more

I initially went in Micro Center to purchase a mid-range laptop for gaming. I informed the Dalton the sales rep I had a budget of $1,300. I stated that the "Acer Nitro 5" would be a nice laptop, and he directed me to "something better", which was a "Maingear Vector 2"... the store brand. I asked him if it was the store brand and he said "yes, how did you know?" I should of took that as a sign for his motivation to steer me away from the laptop I wanted towards the one he would make more commission off of? I'm not sure; however, I asked him if the laptop had any longevity or reliability and he told me "yes, it has a warranty and you have 15 days to return it if you don't like it". Took the computer home, downloaded Fortnite and nothing else, played for approximately 20 - 25 minutes before the laptop shut off completely and permanently. Charged the laptop, and it was to no avail. My problem is why steer someone towards buying something if you know nothing about it? I get that the store has a quota and needs to make room for new inventory but, why sell me something with such terrible quality control? I ended up returning it which was easy so thank you for that, but driving 45 minutes each way to buy and return a laptop that didn't live up to any standard whatsoever was unacceptable. The money spent in the store on a useless product ended back up in my bank account, and I ended up with no product and permanently displeased with Micro Center. This could of been avoided. read more

My bought my third laptop from Micro Center in the past ten years. Laptops were just obsolete. Despite the Houston store being 45 minutes away, the only store I am considered buying my computer. Why? Customer service is great! If I need to return my computer within a few days, I know it will be an easy experience. If I need troubleshooting help, I just go their "repair bar". Prices are competitive and I believe they still match some online competitors. I purchased a refurbished Dell Laptop online. Hesitant, but I am certain Micro Center will help me if anything is wrong. I wouldn't had bought a refurbished laptop from anyone else. There was not an option to select the condition or grade, but this computer seems new. read more

I bought a very expensive laptop and failed to buy the extended warranty. A year later the computer needed major repair. Microcenter was unable to get the needed parts, so they graciously gave me a credit for the amount of my original purchase so I could replace my computer. They didn't have to do that - could have easily said that without the extended warranty I would just have to wait on parts indefinitely or buy another computer. I'm so pleased that they went above and beyond to make the situation right. Outstanding customer service and amazing the way they stood behind the product and agreed that it should have lasted longer than it did. I'm a customer for life! Thanks Microcenter! read more

Their online chat support was unable to help me, my post from yesterday on their forums remains unanswered, and the Houston store will not pick up their phone. My MacBook Pro stopped turning on; as I had once got Micro Center to repair my iMac successfully, it made sense to be a returning customer. I made an online appointment, and reported at the store for 2:00 PM as required. As others have reported, you may have to wait outside until the Covid-19 percent occupancy checks out. When it is hot and humid outside, it is unpleasant, but necessary for everyone's safety. The person at the entrance did apologize for the wait, and thanked us for our patience. That was nice! Once inside, I queued the wrong lane, as they have two counters: one for non Apple, and one for Apple. Fortunately, a Micro Center employee saw my computer and redirected me to the proper queue before I waited too long. I was the first in the queue, somebody was picking up a repaired computer in front of me. Given the amount of people in the store, I was pleasantly surprised. The technician that received me was really helpful, and courteous. He tried to revive my computer in front of me, and verified the obvious. He opened the case, and by-passed the battery, just to see if this was the problem. All done in a few minutes! that's service! Unfortunately, the logic board is at fault, and my computer needs a new one. So I have an ETA of 15 days, but the experience at the store was positive. I wanted to check what they had in terms of SSD's but decided against it because the store was really busy, and I did not want to spend time queuing up to pay up. I would like to finish up with a piece of advice; you may want to time your visit properly, else, you will be waiting outside before getting in. Ineluctable! But to tell you the truth, I had a book prepared on my phone, so the wait was not so bad. read more

I bought a refurbished notebook computer. I did not receive a printout of what I was led to believe I was purchasing. The boxed-up computer I left with was discovered to have half the RAM and half the capacity of the SSD I THOUGHT I was buying. Lesson well learned. This place is a hotbed for Covid. They do not enforce mask wearing or social distancing. I brought it up with the manager and his comment was that some customers yet belligerent and retail salaries aren't big enough to deal with that. Furthermore, they have abandoned their customer service policies and it's currently a landgrab for revenue. They are sticking to their 30 day return policy, even though they were closed for three weeks in a row due to the pandemic. read more

We were looking for a reasonably priced laptop for my daughter to use for her homeschool studies. We saw a pretty purple HP one on the Microcenter website. My husband reserved it online and I just needed to go and pick it up. Nice we made it to Microcenter, there is a special area you go to for online orders. I went there and gave them my email confirmation info, they found her laptop, offered us the extended warranty which we bought and packaged it up. They were very friendly and we were in and out in less than 10 minutes. On the way out, a manager thanked us for coming in and shopping. Great experience read more

If you read my initial review of Micro Center, then you will see that the Micro Center customer relation team had asked me to email them my repair order number so they could look into it. I did as requested and sent the customer relation team an e-mail with a link to my original review along with the my repair number. After a couple of back and forth e-mail, I didn't hear back from the customer relation team after I had given them my phone number (03/08/18). Almost a week later (03/14/18), the Service Manager sent me an e-mail to address my displeasure with the motherboard (mb) given to me during my initial repair and asked me if I had a particular mb in mind that I wanted to have put in the computer. I went to the Houston store's website to see if the exact same mb that was in the PC was available because I wouldn't have minded getting the same exact one; but it wasn't in stock. So I responded to him the next day telling him that the same one would be fine but since it wasn't in stock, I gave him a different model of the same brand that's comparable in features to the old mb that was in stock. I also told him that I was open to having a different brand mb put in as well as long as it had similar features. We agreed to have the model I recommended to be put in the PC (MSI Z270 M7). The service manager then advised me to drop off my computer at my earliest convenience. This w I dropped off my computer that same day (03/15/18) in the evening. I informed the knowledge bar staff that I had talked to the service manager about the motherboard swap. I asked if he was in (he was) and he went back to check with him and came back out to take my information - I never actually met the service manager. I was informed that the tech that was going to handle my repair was about to leave for the day and that the repair might take a couple of days (no firm completion date) but I was expecting it to be completed by 03/18/18 (Sunday) which would give them two full days to work on it. I called on Sunday around 5 pm to see if I could pick up my computer. I found out that they hadn't even started working on it. The person who answered the phone couldn't give me any information since I needed to speak directly with the tech about the status of my repair and he wasn't in. The following day, I received a phone call from the tech around 11:00 am informing me that he was going to start working on my computer that day (which made me question why couldn't they just tell me to bring in the computer in Sunday night instead of "at my convenience") since it was just sitting around not being worked on anyway. The tech said that he would check if the mb was in stock or otherwise he would have to order it. I double checked the stock status while I had him on the phone and it was showing that they had two in stock. Long story short, the tech called me again that same day at around 8 pm telling me that he had finished swapping the motherboards. However, he wanted to let it run overnight to see if any problem would show up. I said fine and asked him when it would be ready for me to pick up. I was given a time of between one and two. I didn't show up until almost five the following day. The pick up process was not memorable either. I went to the pick up line at the knowledge bar to be told to go to the customer service center to be told to come back to the knowledge bar. Once the staff took my repair document and went back to retrieve my computer, he came back out, put it on the counter, and walked away while saying "have a good night". He didn't wait for me to inspect the computer, he didn't wait to see if I had any concern, question, or anything. NOTHING. Once I got home, I noticed that one of the bottom rubbers is missing (see picture. And yes, my computer is now wobbly). But at this point, I'm not even going to worry about it anymore. I'm probably just going to get a new case to replace this one. To summarize, although I applaud the customer relation team (which I'm assuming is from Corporate office) for wanting to make sure that I was a happy customer with my purchase/repair; the execution by the store, however, leaves A LOT to be desired. read more

Really disappointed with my last two visits to this store. I live in Richmond but make the drive to Micro Center because the inventory and employee knowledge is better than Best Buy. Because of this, I picked the Micro Center card over Best Buy's. Didn't realize until later you can't use it for online shopping but oh well. I went last month to purchase several items for my home office, and the employee had to re-ring up my purchases 3 times in order to get the machine to take the MC card. I went yesterday and asked the cashier if I could provide my ID because I thought I left my card at home and was told "You know I'm actually not sure" but luckily I found it in my purse. I tried paying and was told it was declined. I asked her to run it again as I always keep a $0 balance on my card and it was declined again. I called the bank for the card and was told they didn't see where it was declined, and there was no issue with my card. I understand things in the store are pretty hectic but I feel like using a store card in the actual store would be pretty simple. I did try calling the store and corporate number several times before sharing my feedback on yelp. It's embarrassing to consistently have issues with your card and being asked if I'm sure there are available funds while my siblings are with me. At this point Im not sure why I bothered with the card in the first place. read more

Even after asking for help, I received " yeah we will get to you" not to mention the 10 people in line behind me who were irate with the lack of interest and concern for anyone. The store wasn't busy except for the number of employees walking around playing with the gadgets. I brought my four month old PC in for a cpu heating issue, causing the pc to crash when the temps wouldn't be held where they should be, reaching 100+ degrees C. My computer sat here for two weeks, and the day I got it home "repaired" it crashed again due to temps. I was not happy and left a negative review. Ryan reached out to me and was tremendously helpful. Got me in and out, and swapped me a new pc rather than trying to fix mine again. Even got a little bit of an upgrade.
