While he was there to provide the quote, he noticed the kitchen floor was really cold (he took off his shoes when he entered the house). He pulled out his thermal camera and we saw the floor was 30-40F! I had noticed that area of the kitchen was cold in winter, but didn't realize it was coming from the floor, where kitchen is cantilevered out past the foundation wall. He proposed insulating the cantilevered area with spray foam, and then said he could insulate all the rim joists in the basement for the same price. A week or so later, while he was onsite doing the insulating, I mentioned I was going to finish the basement later in the year, and expected to use 3 inch foam panels. He suggested using spray foam instead since that would give me a few inches more space in the room. He gave me a price and I said I'd think about it. As I thought about it, I realized getting a few more inches in the room, and also getting a better sealing product would be worth it, and would save me many hours of labor and a lot of material costs. In summer, I started work on the basement project, and once I had the framing up and electrical roughed in, I called (now July) to schedule the spray foam. Randy honored the price from January, scheduled the job quickly, and it looks great! Something I especially appreciate about Randy and Paragon is that the guy who quotes the job actually does the job; it's not some sales guy, it's the owner who quotes AND does the work! Because of that, any questions get answered and you know exactly who is accountable for quality and completion. I did get other quotes for the attic, and Paragon was very competitive. I really appreciated Randy's suggestions, and they did not feel like a sales pitch; it felt like I was getting good options to consider that would solve a problem I had.

After deciding to bring in a professional, Randy came out to my home, thoroughly assessed the problem areas, and put together a detailed quote on the spot. The scope of work included removal of the existing insulation, air sealing around all attic entry points, sanitizing, air baffle installation, and installation of new Weather Blanket cellulose insulation. The new cellulose achieves an R-value that meets or exceeds Illinois code requirements. Paragon's pricing was competitive, though admittedly a bit higher than some of the larger corporate outfits. What made the difference was Randy's willingness to walk me through the entire plan and clearly explain what justified the investment. That transparency, combined with the comfort of working with a local, owner-operated business, made the decision easy. The crew came in and completed the job in about half a day -- fast, efficient, and clean. The entire process was documented with photos and videos, all of which were included with the final invoice. While up in the attic, they even took the time to correct some substandard work a prior contractor had left behind on my bathroom exhaust fans. I couldn't be happier with the results. So you see the response, but what he's not telling you is,he had a job in Huntley yesterday, when he reached out telling me he could " fit me in ". That's when, if he wanted the business he should have said, hey I will match your current quote.. But instead he tried to justify his estimate," stating " that's a lot of house you got". He even showed up at my home, unannounced,to "look it over" That in itself bothers me. NO Notification, other than a general comment, " I could stop by and take a look". Then he dropped his quote down when I asked for a revised number. The majority of the house doesn't need power washing, it's only the North side that shows the need,and that isn't that bad. Quote was separated into different areas: 1)Drywall, mud, tape and finish for paint in mud room,paint 2)Repair damaged drywall on ceiling in kitchen, paint 3)Repair damaged freshly on basement stairs,paint Every step was itemized and had the price next to it so if I thought paint was too much, I'd be able to remove that option. At the end, you pay for any items they needed to purchase to compete your job. I opted for all three items to be completed and also asked for additional things to be added throughout the projects (trim, baseboards, crown molding, paint) and they accommodated every aspect (with additional cost, of course). 2 guys were here for about a week and they were both extremely respectful of the property (booties, cleaned everything, busted ass)..they even asked to use the bathroom every time even though I don't think that was necessary (there was a language barrier of Ukrainian/Russian, so made it a bit hard to know closet meant bathroom lol). They took out the original floor- tile and mortar bed, all the way to the subfloor. Then they re-did everything, added a curb (we had curbless before), and raised the sliding glass doors which had been installed too low.
