So! I was recommended by a friend to go here and want to recommend to everyone that my experience was as advertised! They don't take appointments, so arrive just before or at 8am when they open for the opportunity of same day service. If not, the later you arrive the better chance it won't be ready until the next business day. I was quoted at Goodyear for an exhaust leak $1400, as they said the whole thing needed to be replaced. Well, my friend heard that and laughed and pointed me here. They gave me a quick estimate after looking under the vehicle and it was $220! I was blown away. I left the vehicle and three hours later I'm being called to be advised it's ready. When I arrived, no change in price, honesty and great work. They welded my faulty section of the muffler and I was back ob the road with a car that went from sounding like an 18 wheel dump truck to an electric vehicle, which it is not. My only regret was delaying the repair thinking it would be at least 50% of what the previous shop quoted. My mechanic suggested I go to Mid Atlantic for an exhaust repair estimate based upon his previous referrals to them. They said to come in when they opened and I was first in line at 8 am. They had my car on the lift ASAP and an estimate was given. To repair mufflers and exhaust systems without total replacement you need the right tools and they have them. In 45 minutes I was out the door and they saved me over $1000 from what a replacement would have cost. Honest, punctual and pleasant. Back in the mid 90's I stumbled across this place and continue to come back. I was looking at a $700+ job on my Celica and stopped by MidAtlantic for another quote. Randy put my car in the lift to check it out. He called me into the garage to show me what he found. He said I didn't need the part replaced, it just needed to be tightened. I have an '02 Honda Civic. Took my car to the dealership to find out about a funny noise. Told me it was my right front strut and it would cost $650 (not including labor) to replace just the ONE strut. Not only did Mid-Atlantic beat the price, they replaced both struts for the price Honda would have charged me for one. After replacing my strut and driving away, I noticed my alignment was off (not from work that Mid-Atlantic did), and drove the car right back. They fixed the alignment free of charge while I waited. Ladies - I don't know about you, but auto repairs and auto mechanics stress me out anytime I need to bring my car in. Randy, Chris and the rest of the crew were extremely knowlegeable, friendly, and don't talk to you like you are dumb. They actually explained what was happening, took a look and listen to other sounds and problems I explained and put me at ease and didn't use information to try to make more money off of me. I am always very apprehensive about the honesty and integrity of auto repair shops. But because of the yelp recs. I thought I'd give it a try. My experience was quite pleasant Chris was extremely helpful...I came in to get a light bulb replaced. They did not have it in stock, but said he could have it delivered to the shop by the time I got there...I arrive 30 min later and the bulb was replaced in 10 min flat!!! And cost $10 less than what my dealership has charged in the past. In addition I watched him discount 2 customers because he was honest about the time it took for labor. I don't know much about cars, but I saw that this repair shop was located near my apartment. I paid $259 for a new muffler and exhaust assembly on my 92 Volvo 240. I'm not sure if that's a good price or not, but in case you are needing the same repair, I wanted to let you know my experience. I brought my car in around 9 am this morning and they had the muffler put back on by 1 pm. I had asked them to fix my old muffler (which fell off) but they said it was too rusted through to put back on. Don't know if that's true or not. The people were courteous and the repair shop seemed professional. I'm glad they had the appropriate muffler so I didn't have to come back another day or wait for the part. read more

Took my car to Merchants Tire to get tires replaced. They told me I aso needed strutts and front brakes replaced, plus allignment, and told me I would ruin my car if I didn't have it done immediately. Cost: about $1100, plus tires. Since i didn't trust them I went to Mid Atlantic, who found my omly problem was front brakes. Half a day and $215 later, I was on my way. Many people in my neighborhood recommend them. read more

Good service on two of my cars. I came back from Jones on my Prius after I knew that I was getting cheated at the dealer on services there. I have always gotten my services done on time and I have even gotten a ride home a couple of times. The only drawbacks are those of a small shop: no loaner car and if you want prompt service you have to be there at 8 when they open, and they are not open Saturday's. You can expect good service with good explanations, no cheating and reasonable prices. read more

"If you can find a good independent auto mechanic, that you trust, stick with them." Truer words have never been spoken. I've taken my car to Midatlantic several times over the last 4 years. What can I say? Courteous, professional, informative, trustworthy etc, etc. On one repair, they could have made me buy a special exhaust piece that was $$$. Instead, they asked if I was ok with a fabricated alternative that would do the same job and save me serious money. Yes. I was. On another occasion I had a few questions about a repair I wasn't aware I needed. Instead of a BS answer on the phone, they got the mechanic to thoroughly explain the issue to me. This repair actually fixed another problem that I knew about, but thought to be unrelated. They have always thoroughly covered my repair options and offered a range of parts based on different budgets. Many shops would simply go for the high margin parts without offering alternatives. Other auto shops could learn a few things about customer service, and the loyalty that comes from it from MidAtlantic. read more

My usual mechanic suggested full replacement of the flex pipe and related assembly. Due to the age of the car, I was reluctant to make that investment and brought the car here for a second opinion. I went there for a strange sound with my brakes. They were extremely friendly, offered helpful advice over the phone (without any regard to where I took my car), and fixed any minor problem they saw while making the repairs at no cost. In fact, when I had separate troubles several months later, they chalked the costs up to the warranty and told me I wouldn't have to pay anything. Today Randy and Chris at Mid-Atlantic Muffler went out of their way to find a $75 solution to my car's problem, to avoid having to replace a $450 part. It wasn't the first time they bent over backwards to do the right thing for me. Several years back I tentatively drove my car into Mid-Atlantic Muffler, surprised that I'd actually made it all the way to the garage. At 20mph it made a remarkably loud thrumming sound that seemed as if it were coming from everywhere at once. If I tried to get up to 35 - which other drivers really prefer when you're driving on 83 - the car shook and made such a deafening sound that I half-expected the car to just break apart. I described the problem to Randy, and he asked for the key. He spent 30 seconds driving it to listen to the sound, and asked which tire I had just changed. Earlier in the week I'd had a tire replaced; I told Randy which one. Apparently the tire guys were sloppy and had not properly tightened every bolt. Over the course of the week it loosened, and a heavy car on top of a slightly wobbly wheel makes quite a racket. I need to digress for a moment, but I promise it's relevant. I'm a business and real estate attorney. Once in awhile a new client brings me what the client thinks is a time-consuming problem, which I can solve for them in 10 minutes. Before I send him a bill for more than just $20, I sometimes relate an old anecdote: A factory assembly line came to a complete halt for no apparent reason. Hundreds of workers had nothing to do, the factory was losing tens of thousands of dollars in lost productivity, and no one could figure out why. They flew in a guy who's the top expert in the field. The expert asked a few questions, replaced a $2 widget, flew home, and sent an invoice for $50,000. The factory manager called the expert and said "Hey, we're grateful for what you did, and of course we understand that we need to reimburse you for your travel costs and pay you something for your time, but all you did was replace a widget. Can you please itemize this for me?" The next day the factory manager received an itemized bill: Widget: $2.00 Knowing which widget to replace: $49,998.00 I understand that expertise has value, and that the amount of time it takes to perform work isn't necessarily a measure of its value. A less honest mechanic could have convinced me that the car needed hundreds of dollars in work. An honest mechanic who wasn't as experienced as Randy might have spent a couple of hours checking everything out before figuring out the problem, and then bill me for the time. And even an honest mechanic who knows his work well enough to diagnose the problem that quickly, but who doesn't bend over backwards so far to be fair with his customers, could have charged me something. But Randy refused to accept anything from me, even after I urged him to let me give him something for his time. Take your car to Mid-Atlantic. You won't be disappointed. read more

Auto repair shops like this are what legends are made of. It's a bright and tidy, excellent shop with kind, ethical, efficient and very direct, no-nonsense employees. My mechanic referred me here for a crack the exhaust system on my 20 year old 240 which he was unable to fix. The car has very low mileage and is generally in amazing shape but the crack was so close to the catalytic converter, the bolts rusted beyond the point of return so my mechanic was not overly optimistic, preparing me mentally for the likely possibility that I would be replacing the entire exhaust system (which he said could cost $900 or so). Mid Atlantic had the car up and looked at within 15 minutes of arrival, very simply examined that they could cut out the damaged section and weld in new piping-- for $75-- and I was out the door in less than an hour total. I liked the sample parts they had hanging out on a wall to illustrate the job (we're all visual people). They certainly made my day, and could just be my new shop from now on, so the only real downside I can see is for my mechanic who referred me here. On my way out he wished me luck and said Mid Atlantic Muffler has saved many of his customers hundreds of dollars time and time again. I'm grateful to him! read more

About 3 months ago when the snow hit md really bad i damaged my muffler i had a recomendation to bring it here to get it fixed while i was at the shop the also were "supposed" to fix my alinment which was also very off when i went into the shop after the work was done they man who does the alignment said he couldnt fully fix it because i take my turns to sharp i know for a fact this is not the case not knowing enough about cars i said nothing, i recently just got my car repaired from another body shop that i fully trust after the did the work they found out that my left tie rod end was so badley damaged i was basically driving a death trap the men at mid atlantic would have seen the damage to this part had they properly fixed the alignment in the first place,i called mid atlantic and explianed to them what my mechanic said and asked if they would fix the alignment again without chrage since they didnt properly do it the first time,the first time i called the employee i spoke to was rude and rushed. i called back and asked if i could speak with the manager this time a diffrent employee answered the phone yelled at me that he had already told me they wouldnt fix it no i couldnt speak to the manager and the cussed and hung up on me. i was so horrifed at being spoken to like that i called a third time and asked again to speak to the manager this time i finally got him after i got yelled at a THIRD time by one of his employees when the manager picked up the phone he proceeds to yell at me that i didnt know what i was talking about and that my mecanhic was a "dumbass" and hadnt been in the business long enough (mind you all i wanted done was my alignment refixed since it wasnt fixed the first time) he then kept yelling at me for another 15 mins without letting me explain the situation to him he then proceeded to "threaten" me with id like to see you bring that part down here nonsenses finally at the endof the conversation after being cussed at by four diffrent people and yelled and cussed at by the manager he told me he would fix the alignment for free . personally i think if you know anything about customer service you DO NOT cuss at someone who is trying to bring you business. it was horrible i would not reccomend going tomid atlantic to anyonethey were incerdable rude didnt fix the inital problem sceamed at me and told me off .
