There were all sorts of scams and unnecessary repairs including: 1. Leading Edge replaced the front brakes at 119k miles and then again at 130k miles. Brakes again after 11k!! Front brakes should last at least 40k miles, usually more like 60-70k. 2. Leading Edge replaced the lower control arms at 116k and again at 146k. Control arm bushings last at least 100k miles. If you need control arms again at 30k, either the parts were junk or the alignment wasn't done right. 3. Leading Edge charged labor to replace both the serpentine belt and the alternator. You have to remove the belt to remove the alternator, so an honest shop wouldn't charge for the belt when doing the alternator. To charge full price for both is outrageous. 4. Leading Edge charged $250 to replace the radiator and $174 to replace the radiator hoses. You have to remove the hoses to replace the radiator. Here again, it's a rip off to charge labor for both. 5. Leading Edge charged $475 labor (just labor!!) to install tires, clean the beads, and replace one TPMS. $60-120 is typical at most shops for all this work, especially if you are buying tires from them. $475 for tire installation is probably the most outrageous repair scam I've ever seen.

I chose to go elsewhere and had the same repair completed for $40. I also found the volume of follow-up emails and maintenance reminders excessive and pressure-filled rather than helpful. And they're honest about the cost of labor and replacement pieces. The waiting room is kinda rough and cold so you can ask to sit in the office with the lot puppy they found and adopted this year. Recently, I even had a situation where I texted Jeff about a light coming on in my car during a roadtrip. I wasn't sure if it was safe to keep going (the manual was extremely unhelpful, saying both that it could be a situation where I needed to stop and take my car in immediately or to just have it looked at sometime soon), so I texted Jeff a photo and asked what he thought. Jeff got back to me right away, and -- with the caveat that he couldn't be certain what was going on, since he wasn't there looking at my car -- he gave me information that made me confident that I could safely keep driving (spoiler: he was right). He then looked at my car the following morning and got the issue fixed (the problem had been a loose gas cap, as he suspected, and the system just needed to be reset for the alert light to turn off) in under 5 minutes, free of charge. And he even told me he was so glad I felt comfortable texting him about this! I've been taking my car to Jeff for over 8 years, and I can't recommend him highly enough. My boyfriend recently became a Maryland resident, which meant getting his car registered here…read more However, Maryland requires an ominous "safety inspection"- it's only required once, but we were dreading getting hit with a giant bill. The safety inspection is very thorough and they check about 25 different parts of your car. We made the appointment a few days in advance and showed up on time. The receptionist was very friendly and could see that we were nervous, but she did her best to assure us that the process was fairly painless. The mechanic who does the inspections was also there and he was very friendly. We dropped the car off around 10am and they were finished around 11:15am and called me to let us know. Luckily, the shop is right by the avenue so we did some wandering, grabbed some coffee, and even had lunch. The reason that we were so worried about this inspection is that car repair shops can be notoriously deceptive. However, Keswick Auto Center was VERY HONEST and incredibly efficient. Luckily for us, our vehicle only had a few minor issues and the receptionist explained that it would be much cheaper for us to buy the parts ourselves and install everything rather than have the repairs done at the shop. Also, they weren't able to do the driving test because it was raining, but they assured us that they would do their best to work us in on a sunnier day. Overall, this whole experience could have been a nightmare but Keswick Auto Center really pulled through for us and we greatly appreciate their honesty. We would definitely recommend this shop to anyone who needs to get their car inspected and will be back the next time we need some car repairs.
