Having no time to fly out, check out the car, and drive it home to California, and having no contacts or friends in Baltimore, I searched for the highest rated local Lexus mechanic for a prepurchase inspection and Sisson Street appeared. So many stories in the reviews of Jeff's expertise, friendliness, and integrity. So Jeff did the inspection, informed me that the car was in spectacular shape, and offered to help me and the seller by allowing the transport truck to pick it up at the shop. He also advised me on how to best ship the car. His care, attitude of service, and overall good vibes have made this potentially scary process much easier. Great shop, great person. If I could only recommend one business to people, it would be Sisson Street Automotive. Jeff is hands down the best mechanic I've ever been to, and it's not even close (other mechanics I've been to haven't even been bad, Jeff is just THAT good). The quality of his work is fantastic and his pricing is very fair. He goes out of his way to work within your budget, letting you know what work is critical (if any) and should be addressed asap vs. what he's noticed could use fixing at some point in the future. But what really sets Jeff apart is his dedication to helping his customers. You can't put a price on the peace of mind I get after I take my 16 year old car to Jeff. Not only am I confident that I'm getting a good price; I also know that my car won't then break down immediately afterwards due to shoddy work or from some other issue that I didn't think to ask about (if I asked Jeff to get my car roadtrip ready, it will BE roadtrip ready). And I know I never have to be worried about being judged for asking questions or for the state of my car (yes, there's gorilla tape on parts of my car and no, Jeff has never mentioned it -- in fact, he always talks about how great my car is and how much he enjoys working on it). As a woman with super limited car knowledge who's always a little worried that I'm getting fleeced at auto shops, the trust I have in Jeff is priceless. I also know that Jeff will let me know when it's time to think about retiring my car. Every few years, I'll check in to see if he thinks it's worth me continuing to fix my car up or if I should start thinking about getting a new one. I probably would have thrown in the towel years ago and just gotten a replacement car (even though I love my current one). But thanks to Jeff, my first and only car is still trucking! But Jeff doesn't only make sure he's giving YOU the best possible value; he's also more than happy to help you ensure you're getting the best possible value from other mechanics. He's had to refer me to some other shops for work he couldn't do (or that would be much more expensive for me to have him do vs. other shops -- again, what integrity) in the past. And whenever I expressed any nervousness about them trying to upsell me, he's always told me to just give him a call if anything sounds off, and he'll advise me on what to do. Recently, I even had a situation where I texted Jeff about a light coming on in my car during a roadtrip. I wasn't sure if it was safe to keep going (the manual was extremely unhelpful, saying both that it could be a situation where I needed to stop and take my car in immediately or to just have it looked at sometime soon), so I texted Jeff a photo and asked what he thought. Jeff got back to me right away, and -- with the caveat that he couldn't be certain what was going on, since he wasn't there looking at my car -- he gave me information that made me confident that I could safely keep driving (spoiler: he was right). He then looked at my car the following morning and got the issue fixed (the problem had been a loose gas cap, as he suspected, and the system just needed to be reset for the alert light to turn off) in under 5 minutes, free of charge. And he even told me he was so glad I felt comfortable texting him about this! I've been taking my car to Jeff for over 8 years, and I can't recommend him highly enough. I cannot recommend Jeff enough. As a woman who does not know a ton about cars, I often feel like I am being taken advantage of at shops and being scared into buying things that are not necessary. Never have I felt that way with Jeff, he is very knowledgable and honest with what needs to be done and what can wait. Even better, his pricing is fair. I've gone to him for everything from routine maintenance to a total brake rebuild. The one downside to his shop is that you normally can't get your car in same-day or next-day. But as a small shop, that's to be expected. I can normally get my car in within the week. On the bright side, once he starts working on it, it's usually done same day. I also love when I get a thank you note from him in the mail after service, signed by him and Winnie (his dog)! I asked where to get the appointment they told me to stay on deck for 30 minutes. I waited. After the wait they came back and told me my appointment was 1 week later. I was like ...what? I made a visit to this location twice to receive a quote(the first time he was out on a workmans holiday with no notice on the door so a second visit was neccesary) and he was adamant about not giving quotes over the phone and that my vehicle would need to be visually inspected to recieve a quote for anything. Even the cost of the part needed. He also informed me that if I was trying to save money, he was not the shop for me. A few hours later, I received a quote and was informed that they would not use customer supplied parts even if they were OEM. Although I did not actually have my car repaired at Sisson Street Automotive, I did have it checked out by Jeff and his brother. These two gentleman are extremely honest and run a very clean garage. They get in very early in the morning and, in my case, were able to get my car turned around by the afternoon. Jeff is an auto repair rock star! About midway to Baltimore from Maine our Toyota Tundra developed a loud scraping noise that made us very nervous. For 200 miles we listened to the sounds of metal on metal, while making multiple stops at rest areas hoping to find a mechanic, but to no avail. Determined to make it to Baltimore, hoping that we wouldn't break down en-route we pressed on. Fortunately, we made it! The next day we combed through countless reviews of the various area Toyota dealership service centers and became quite frustrated because all them were so dismal-typically 1 1/2 to 2 stars on Yelp. Finally, we just googled "Baltimore auto repair" and found an independent repair shop with forty five (45) 5 star reviews on Yelp. We were a bit skeptical of so many positive reviews but believed it made sense to make a call to Sisson Street Automotive. Jeff answered the phone, explained that he was a one-man shop and was very busy, but would be happy to take a quick look at our car an hour later. We drove over immediately (only a few miles from our home) to meet Jeff and his beautiful and sweet dog Winnie, and partake of one of the most unique auto repair places we have ever seen-bedecked in hundreds of posters and memorabilia from the 60's and 70's-with a large array of Grateful Dead paraphernalia prominently displayed. The parking lot, by the way, was packed with about 20 other vehicles. Shortly thereafter Jeff took a look at the truck and said we might be pleasantly surprised, if his first observations were correct, that it was a relatively easy fix. He would work on it later in the day. We agreed to drop the car and while we were on our Uber app, Jeff, in what we soon found to be his overriding sense of empathy and goodness, said he would fix the truck within the hour, if we were willing to wait. Wow! We were shocked and amazed. Within 15 minutes he had the Tundra on his lift, had taken off the heat shield which had come loose, showed how he would repair it, and proceeded to create a fix which likely no Toyota service would have figured out (as it turned out Jeff had 40 years of experience and extraordinary expertise with Toyotas). He even did a few other minor repairs while the truck was on the lift. As promised, within an hour, the truck was repaired and ready to go. This has become a long-winded way of saying there is no other mechanic we have ever encountered that has inspired our trust to the degree that we now trust Jeff. He is a good person and is completely honest. We have even decided to keep our 10 year-old truck knowing that Jeff will be around to care for it. I came in to see Jeff this past Saturday as I had gotten stuck at work the night before with car problems. After explaining to him that I live about 40 miles away and was really stuck, he told me he would do everything he could. The car place i went to back where I live, told me it would be about $800 for repairs of spark plugs and coils. Needless to say, Jeff fixed my car in about an hour and a half (which I was not expecting at all) and charged me a quarter of the price of what the previous car place told me. Absolutely the worst auto repair experience I ever had. I took my car in after it would not start. Jeff charged me $1700 to fix the starter and electrical problems. It was a lot but I trusted that he knew what he was doing. Two weeks later it would not start again, with the same symptoms. I've lived in Baltimore since 2011, and wish I had found Jeff sooner! A chain oil-change place told me I needed new struts after a routine tire rotation. Obviously this place gets a lot of positive reviews. My experience was incredibly different than most, apparently. Jeff was misleading, promising to service my car in a certain amount of time for a certain price, but then deciding after I dropped my car off that he was too busy and charged me $150 for virtually nothing. When I politely disagreed with the charge, he freaked out. Ended up yelling at me and threatening me. This guy has no integrity whatsoever. I'm sure he's a good mechanic, but apparently with all the accolades, he's become complacent, and has lost sight of what good customer service is. He cleared the light free of charge and told me he'd look into used parts to replace the seat belt. He told me that the light may stay off, but if it came back on, we'd be prepared to replace it. I've been using Sisson Street Automotive for a few years upon the request of a friend and I've had no desire to find anyone else or get a second opinion after a diagnosis.
