I came here a few weeks ago with an old suit that I had hanging around in my closet. It was a mess in terms of fit- too baggy, ill-fitting jacket, etc. I was seen right away and my suit was done by the next day, which was nice. For sub-$200, they re-did the inseam in the pants, hemmed the cuffs, took in the jacket on the sides, and re-did the shoulders. The suit looks amazing and when I wore it to an event several days later, I received a number of compliments. I will be bringing in several shirts to be tailored- really impressed with the work. The prices are slightly higher than other tailors, but I thought in terms of "value" vs. absolute "price." Nothing feels better than wearing tailored or custom clothes. read more

I brought my dress here to be shortened and taken in and a week later when I picked it up it didn't fit at all - it was skin tight. The guy in charge Zeke was incredibly rude and wouldn't give me my full refund even though they made the dress too small and unwearable. When I dropped it off with the pins on, it came off super easily. The day of pickup, I didn't hear anything so I called at 2pm. They said the dress wasn't ready and I needed to come between 5pm and 5:30pm. At pickup, I couldn't get it off and it had to be ripped from my body with help from someone working there. I'm going to the wedding alone so can't wear a dress I will be stuck in. He said he could fix it but not now because they were closing so it won't be ready until 9am the next day and my flight is at 7am. Keep in mind, they wouldn't let me pick the dress up before 5pm. I literally paid extra to have it be done today and he won't even give me money back because he "did what I asked him to". I said "so you don't care that the dress doesn't fit me then" and he straight up said "No". They don't provide a good service at all and admit to your face they don't care. read more

I was a little worried about dropping off my bridesmaid dress to get an alteration only days before the wedding, but Mid City Tailoring saved the day. I dropped my dress off on a Friday morning, and got it back on Tuesday afternoon! It was a small alteration (needed to get a stiff zipper fixed) but I really appreciated that they were able to get it done quickly. Once I got it back, I tried the dress on there to make sure that it was fixed, which it was. Also, it's so nice that you can text their staff with any questions you have. I texted them to inquire about how long the repair would take, and they got back to me within minutes. They also texted me to let me know the dress was ready. Mid City for the win! I came in for a bizarre last minute request. Needed to get a fake ruby gem stitched onto a piece of headwear for Comic Con. Of course I left it until the last minute, and of course my needles at home didn't work for the job! Popped in first thing in the morning and the lady at the counter was an immediate life saver. They fixed everything within 10 minutes for a very reasonable price. Easy to find, larger than I expected, and will absolutely have my business in the future! Really horrible experience. I brought a dress that was too short and a touch tight. I just wanted to get it turned in to a two piece or see what other options I had..:.the man there just told me how I was "too big" for the dress and how my hips were just too wide to fix anything with my dress. I dropped off several items here for tailoring and they requested two weeks to tailor the item, which I thought was fair given the work required. One hour before I was supposed to pick up the items, I received a text message letting me know that the items were not ready. I came to pick the items up the following week and it was clear that items were tailored in an extreme rush with very poor attention to detail. The tailor clearly could not recall the basic alterations we aligned on. For example, the outside label on the jeans I dropped off were stitched on backwards. A silk shirt I had asked to be tailored to 3/4 length was tailored so that it was short-sleeved and could no longer be buttoned. Another item looked like it had been stitched in a mere two to three minutes very quickly. When confronted these errors, instead of apologizing and offering a discount or some other method to rectify the issue, they continued to proclaim that I needed to pay in full because the tailor did the work. Apparently doing the tailoring in line with what you aligned on with the tailor in their mind was not required. BEWARE! Do not trust this business with any expensive or high-quality garments. They have very poor quality control and attention to detail. read more

Recently had the lining and shell of a vintage suede leather jacket repaired here. I had blown a hole in the armpit of my jacket by lifting my arms too quickly (dancing). I came by the store hesitant about making sure I could find someone qualified to look after leather. The lady at the desk was extremely kind and helpful - reassuring me that they had done similar work before. Not two weeks later I had my jacket back good as new!! read more

My bridesmaid dress came back looking worse than it had when I dropped it off - the darts became uneven, bunched up, and no longer sat on my chest correctly, and the tailor never took in the waist so the dress basically looked like a triangle when it's supposed to be an a-line. It was horrible. The tailor basically said "Sorry, it is what it is, I can't do anything else," so I had a friend from the costuming business redo all the tailoring in two days. I will not be going back to this tailor and would not recommend them for substantial dress alterations. read more

These tailors are inexperienced and unwilling to help solve an issue. I do not suggest anyone use them, no matter how small a job. I came here to have a bridesmaids dress hemmed and brought in on the sides and bust. The hem was done sloppily and clearly very quickly, without a lot of care or patience put into it. The sides were brought in but more so on one side than the other, so the dress itself sat lopsided on my body. The biggest issue, the bust, seems to be too much for this team to handle as it took two subsequent visits and they still were unable to fix it. I am confident with a pair of scissors and safety pins I could do a better job than they did. This was a simple tailoring job that is still unresolved $105 later. read more

Went in around 3pm to have a jumpsuit hemmed and inquired if it could be ready by 5pm the next day. They informed me they could do it for an extra $15 rush fee which I thought was more than affordable for the quick turnaround. Mid City Tailoring exceeded my expectations by having my jumpsuit finished before 5pm THE SAME DAY. Received a perfect hem job in less than 2 hours for less than $50 so needless to say I will be returning with future business. read more

Needed a dress hemmed same day for my birthday. I dropped it off at 8:30 am and picked it up at 2:00. Pricing was reasonable given that it was a same day alteration and that the type fabric (lots of sequins) was hard to work with. They did an excellent job and I wore the dress that night! read more

The absolute worst. I brought two cashmere sweaters here for reweaving, which they advertise. The man who took my work in looked them over and gave me a price and I put down $75. When I returned, they had sewn the sweaters with regular thread, which is not only not reweaving, but also something I could have done myself for free. The man I picked them up from was then unbelievably rude when I objected to the work, telling me they only reweave suits, not sweaters, and "no one does that." I told him no one told me that they only did suits, and that I had sweaters at home that were rewoven by Alice Zotta. He told me she's dead. Then he asked what I wanted him to do, cut his hand? (I don't even know what that means.) What he should have done was refund all of my money, not act like it was amazing that he wasn't charging me the balance. I had to walk out of the store because I was treated so rudely and was so angry. I got on the phone with Alice Zotta directly after (lesson learned!) and now I'll have to pay again to see if they can salvage the sweaters. Maybe there are other things they do well, but don't bring your business to people who have zero concept of customer service and act as if their shoddy work is your problem. read more

I came in early this week for a gown that needed to be hemmed. The gown was nothing crazy (jersey material - not lace/beaded) and they charged me $95!!!! I think this place is meant for suits/clothing items of that nature, because no seamstress I've used in the past has charged this much. Save your money and time!!!!! I went there to repair my jeans with denim surgeon (which shares the same space). Their store closes before office hours, which was difficult for me to pick up with a full-time job. When i finally had time to pick it up, the staff basically implied that it could have been donated away because they had no room to keep a pair of jeans past 30 days! They defaulted by saying there is a disclaimer on the receipt that indicates they don't keep your items past 30 days, in which i questioned why they wouldn't call me to notify that they would do such an unheard of thing prior! Tiffany, who worked there went through each inventory bin and there must have been 100 pairs of old jeans that were never picked up. The RUDE and OBNOXIOUS owner basically said out loud for her to stop wasting her time and assigned other work for her to do while I was waiting to see if they can locate my jeans. I've never witnessed such poor business ethic and integrity. His attitude was literally disgraceful. I would not encourage doing business with such negative people. There's an abundance of quality and personable tailors in NYC - Tiffany, you should find yourself a better job employer elsewhere! read more
