I finally found my tailor in New York City! I found FCO through Yelp and brought some pants to get hemmed. They were responsive and reasonable price wise compared to all other tailors I contacted. Especially because I am a short girl, I have to get EVERYTHING hemmed..! I was happy with their pants hemming, so I brought a dress that needed to be shortened. After an initial good alterations experience, I had several more alterations done. I also commissioned four custom shirts, with one sample, for $1300. Unfortunately, the outcome of the custom shirts was deeply unsatisfactory. Some of this was my own fault--I should have been more assertive during fittings. However, even with that in mind, the craftsmanship and service did not meet expectations for a tailor at this price point. The problems were: 1. The first fitting lacked buttons (pins were used instead), and I was not asked to tuck the shirt in. This led to a looser fit than desired. I was inexperienced with custom shirts and didn't know to insist on trying them with buttons in place. 2. The buttons were plastic instead of mother-of-pearl. In New York, even high-end off-the-rack shirts use mother-of-pearl. I was never given a choice, and at $1,300 plastic is unacceptable. 3. The fabric was from a South American mill rather than premium makers like Alumo or Thomas Mason. I initially accepted this, assuming the fit would compensate--it didn't. 4. The buttonholes were unfinished upon delivery, with literally the majority of buttonholes on one shirt having stray threads that the buttons would catch on, making the shirt difficult to button. Note when I first received the "finished" shirts, they were plastic-bagged and put on hangers, preventing an immediate check. 5. Some shirts had stray threads inside, as if they weren't properly cleaned before delivery. 6. One of the shirts had small brown stains (coffee?). 7. Unlike other shirtmakers, they never asked my preferred collar type or size (straight, Italian, button-down). 8. Despite multiple visits, the fit was never quite right, requiring several rounds of alterations--far more than should be necessarily with a skilled tailor. The day I unbagged the shirts, I discovered the buttonhole and fit issues, and I booked an appointment to correct them. The shirts came back and seemed improved, so, wanting to keep the relationship cordial, I said "It's good", and I took them. As I wore them, it became clear that they didn't really fit. This repeated several times, each time involving a long trip to Manhattan. Eventually, after about the fourth(?) revision, the shirts became too tight in the arms, and I gave up on trying to improve them. I have worked with other NYC custom shirtmakers and never encountered such persistent issues. Wanting to be fair, I wrote out the eight bullet points above in a polite letter, translated it to Spanish, and delivered it to the tailor. The tailor was kind and seemed genuinely remorseful. The manager, after initial skepticism, heard me out and agreed to refund me 75% of the cost in two weeks--reasonable, given their efforts. However, when two weeks passed, the manager called me in a more confrontational tone, shifting blame to me for not immediately raising concerns at each fitting. He claimed too much time had passed for a refund, even though I'd been gently pointing out fit issues from the start. He also suggested my changing body shape from working out caused the problem, which I know is false, because the custom shirts I bought before FCO's still fit just fine. Ultimately, he retracted the refund offer, making it clear he viewed me as the problem rather than acknowledging the objectively subpar work. Final thoughts: (1) A tailor's job is to create high-quality, well-fitting clothing--FCO failed to do so. (2) No other custom tailor I've bought from has had these issues. (3) Their decision to offer, then revoke, a refund suggests an unwillingness to stand by their work. I take no pleasure in writing this, as I initially had a good experience. But given the poor craftsmanship, repeated fit issues, and ultimately withdrawn resolution, I cannot recommend them. EDIT 2: I received a text from the tailor asking that I delete this review (about a $1300 custom shirt order), claiming he was about to lose his job because of me. That seemed like emotional manipulation, given his key role in this thriving business. EDIT 3: They responded by calling me a liar and attacking my character, so I'm downgrading this to 1-star. read more

Lovely Mother/Daughter team that truly wants you to be happy. It seems that the mother (a very sweet woman) does the tailoring and the daughter runs the business and interacts with the customers as she speaks better English. I brought in a dress that I needed to be taken in as it was only available in a Medium and I'm an XS and it proved to be a bit of a difficult material to work with. It took 3 visits/adjustments before it was taken in enough to fit my like a glove, but each time I tried it on there was no question as to whether they would be doing the complimentary adjustments. I don't know if it was truly a difficult material or if they just weren't getting it right, but at the end of the day I was happy with the end product. Prices were competitive ($150). read more

I came here upon recommendation from another tailor, whom I came to after 2 other tailors turned down my request, whom I went to after one other sample maker failed to do my job right, who I went to after being recommended to by my regular tailor. It took a long and windy road of failure, frustration, and disappointment to finally have what I needed done, which is to make a custom trench coat belt using trimmed fabric. However, I'm glad Jeremy and his team at FCO tailors were the ones who got the job finally done because they did a fantastic job and they finished the job literally the day after I dropped off the materials. I went to Jeremy to shorten a slightly complicated fitted floor length gown. Since it wasn't a rush job, I had him pick a day that worked best to have it completed. About a week later, I picked it up and was super happy with the results. I decided to not try it on when I picked it up and he made a follow up call to make sure the gown was the proper length. This is a long overdue review. I was going upstate for 4th of July and needed a bathing suit tailored. I'm 5'2", and the torso was too long. 4 different places all over NYC told me they didn't do bathing suit alterations. Something about not having the right sewing machine.
