They were able to fit me in quickly to determine what the issue was and even made a future appointment with a specialist for when I got home. Seriously, these people were great and took excellent care of me in a time of need. I wish all medical professionals were like this!

After waiting nearly 6 months for contacts (which ended up being wrong) I asked for a copy of my records. I was refused due to balance owed (I had sent payment...they said they lost it). Dr. Bogden actually called me at work and argued with me over wanting my records! How unprofessional!! I then turned them into OCR for a HIPPA violation which it was taken over by the OCR for investigation. He accused me of non-payment for products I hadn't even received yet due to their office closing for 4 months due to covid.... yet I was blamed for not paying for a product I had not received yet NOR did I ever receive a prior bill so it could have been paid. I sent in a check with my request for my records and they claimed they never saw the check which was wrapped inside the letter... so if they got the letter, they got the check yet it came off missing - very untrustworty! Receptionist also did not know how to code claims properly therefore my insurance did not pick up the cost for my exam sending it back to me.... BAD service! Watch your bill! And your rights!

However, the TECH or medical assistant (blonde lady) that attempted to obtain my intake/triage information, had the most sour attitude and nasty disposition that I have encountered in a long time. I have never in my life, walked out of a doctors appointment. After she started reprimanding me and about her third snarky comment, I had to stand up, tell her this would not be a good fit and walked out. I noticed the general patient population of the this office were quite elderly. I would be horrified if anybody spoke to my grandparents this way. I would literally prefer to go blind, then interact with that woman ever again in my life.

Additionally, he almost overcharged me for services that I'd specifically not wanted. The practice has friendly, professional staff at the desk, and the assistant who settled me in was wonderful. When Dr. Marotto entered, though, he began to put drops in my eyes without asking or explaining what he was doing. When I explained that I was concerned about my severe allergy to a certain chemical in a particular kind of drops, he scoffed at me. Once Dr. Marotto looked at my swollen eyelid and told me how to care for it, he then proceeded to conduct an entire eye exam (quoted billing charge: $250) on me __without my consent__. (I thought he was thoroughly checking my eyelid; the exam was not nearly as comprehensive or as careful as I've received elsewhere.) Fortunately, I'd already told the front desk that I was not there for an exam, and wouldn't pay for one -- but when I told Dr. Marotto that, he suggested that it was my fault because "you asked questions." (I did: about three.) I'm still a bit bewildered by why I was treated this way. I don't expect every physician to click with every patient, but I do believe that, regardless of their field, our health care providers should: 1. tell/ask us before they apply chemicals to our eyes (or anywhere) 2. honor patients' requests to avoid costly and unnecessary procedures 3. encourage questions, rather than blaming patients for wanting to understand what's wrong with them.

My wife and I made an appointment to see Dr. Calvelli with Maine Eye to have our annual checkup. We…read moretransferred from an optometrist in Biddeford. We made the appointment in or around September. The best date we could secure was on December 31. As we had little choice we accepted this inconvenient date and changed our New Year plans. Then at some point in mid to late December we received a message that our appointment was cancelled and we should call to make another appointment. To say that we were disappointed would be an understatement! We had waited for months and then a cancellation with no explanation as to why. No apology whatsoever! Be this as it may, I called to make a new appointment and was told the best they could do was at the END of March!! I would have thought I could get a new appointment sometime in January, but was told I had to go back to the end of the queue as if I were making a new appointment in December. I was truly disappointed. We saw the doctor who was polite and apologized for keeping us waiting for 45 minutes. I reminded her that it took us 6 months to get to this this appointment, that is including Maine Eye's earlier cancellation of our December appointment, but still no apologies for this earlier cancellation. After seeing the doctor at Maine Eye, I took my prescription for glasses down to their lab, but after leaving the building I decided to get another estimate for the prescribed lenses. Maine Eye's price was more than $100 more expensive, so I had my prescription filled elsewhere. I called Maine Eye to discuss my complaints with the Director. Maine Eye would not give me his/her office email or telephone number! I was shocked. On top of all this, this month I received a bill for my eye exam for $50 (for Refraction). I paid although I have not had to pay anything for an eye exam for at least 30 years. I have medical insurance, Medicare and VSP vision insurance. I was told AFTER the fact that Maine Eye does not accept VSP. Remember I was not afforded the means to send an email or get the Director's office telephone number. All in all. DISGFRACEFUL. If this is the care and service that Maine Eye provides, then we are in real trouble!!!! Dr. HA

But when I called right away to reschedule, I was told the earliest available appointment was approximately eight months later, and told it in no uncertain terms. Apparently, patients whose appointments are canceled by the practice are just returned to the back of the line. I really needed this appointment, so they really did me dirty.
