The food is always good and there is a great variety. Its generally quite fresh too because they are usually busy. The Mongolian is nice. Basically you can pick a bunch of fresh ingredients and have a fresh lo mein made for you. If you go on weekend afternoons they have a nice brunch selection. I like eating at buffets as I can pick what I like which for a health conscious person like me is very hard. Well not here, this buffet has a great fresh salad bar selection and a great hibachi grill selection. In addition they always have turkey and the baked salmon this trip was perfect...nice and moist not overcook. Their seafood had pulpo which I like. For desert there was fresh cut watermelon which most buffets dont have. The only con: Sushi a bit salty and their ice cream selection is limited. first tries this place on the 19th since i was starving and i wanted to be filled. i noticed at first the place was very clean and orderly here and the manager here took charge and made sure the flow of traffic of customers and employees was good. the staff was nice and polite and did not drag their heels in the service while i was there. all the food i had was fresh and hot and i saw the people constantly rotating out the old food for new always a good sign. they had a few food items i dont see at buffets and many i do see. i wish the place had a bigger section since i felt like their was alot of items this place could have. but otherwise for my first time i was satisfied and i was glad i was not pestered for a tip like i get at other buffets and not rushed to eat so they use my table for another group. when am in the area again, i will hit them up :) read more

This rating is for the Mongolian grill portion of the buffet. You will find fresh ingredients with a wide variety of vegetables, meats, and sauces. It is excellent and healthy. I have gotten take out for both lunch and dinner and it is very reasonably priced. As for the buffet itself... Decent selection but I tend to stay away as it is typical Chinese buffet style food. We walked in and were greeted by a very friendly hostess who sat us down promptly and took our drink orders. We proceeded to the buffet, they have a great variety of Chinese and American food. I really enjoyed the black peppered chicken and walnut chicken. My boyfriend enjoyed the cream cheese wontons and egg rolls. Their dessert bar was also very good (especially their ice cream and cake) But our all time favorite was the fried dough balls coated in sugar. Their food stations are very clean and tidy and never empty. They had a hibachi style grill and sushi bar, we didn't try that, maybe next time. But we can speak for the buffet, all in all it was a very delicious meal. This is the best Chinese buffet place in the entire region. The Hub and I have been stopping off here every weekend on our way up to our weekend place for years now, and I have yet to have a negative experience of any sort in here. That alone is amazing. The staff is wonderful and accommodating, with no attitude whatsoever even with their knowledge that they are immensely popular. They treat their customers like family, and are willing and eager to do whatever they can to make each one comfortable and pleased. The food...oh my. Not only do they have lots and lots of Chinese food choices - which are all delicious - but they also have a large Mongolian station where you can have the chef custom-prepare your handpicked choice of meat and veggies; a sushi bar (really fresh stuff!); a variety of DIY carving stations; a plentiful, drama-free crab leg area; an American station; a cold salad bar, and a dessert/pastry station with soft-serve ice cream and all the fixings. There is even a vast brunch setup during lunchtime with an array of favorites. Although the food is outstanding, the things I like equally well at Mid Hudson Buffet are their cleanliness, and the promptness in refilling the individual items. Never once in all the years I've eaten here have I ever approached the serving tables and found one of the items empty. If, on a rare occasion, there is one item that is running low, you can bet that before you even finish processing the thought, there will be a server directly behind you with a full tray of that item, waiting to replace it. They are that prompt. Ditto for the table servers - who will barely allow you to finish your last drop of beverage before politely asking if you'd like a refill. Same goes for their clearing away your dishes. You will never have to wait an extra second for their assistance or look about for them wondering when they will get around to your table. Great food, kind management, clean surroundings, prompt service...and did I mention ridiculously low prices for lunch and dinner? Mid-Hudson Buffet, 1110 Ulster Ave, Kingston, March 23, 2015 at about 2:15PM: I was plating up my first plate, when to my shock I had to quick step back to avoid having my feet sprayed by the exterminator! Yup, right in the middle of lunch service! A man was going around spraying the bases of the food islands and opening up their access doors and using a pressure sprayer to spray inside as well as outside for bugs (I'm assuming cockroaches). I nearly walked out, and don't ask me why I didn't as I have no answer for that. I'm sure that most if not all restaurants have a vermin control program (even if only to prevent a problem) but I can't imagine there being too many restaurants that do this in front of diners, and diners having to move aside and make way in order to not be bug sprayed themselves! MESSAGE TO MANAGEMENT: Have your exterminator spray for cockroaches (and whatever else) before or after dinner service, NOT DURING! So then like a good little sheep, I took my plate of food and went to my table, and a couple minutes later I happened to glance up, just in time to see the bored looking young waitress who was leaning on the wooden divider thoroughly engrossed in using her index finger to go deep in her nostril for what must have been a very sticky booger as she then had trouble getting it off her finger! However, as disgusting as this was to see, I can attest that the young woman did not abandon her post. TO, SAY, GO WASH HER HANDS! Jeeze, in plain sight of patrons who were eating, and believe me when I say, it was more excavation than a nose picking! Yes I stayed and finished eating, and don't ask me why I did that either. MESSAGE TO MANAGEMENT: At your next staff meeting (presumably you do hold them) my suggestion is that you offer your staff a few pointers on etiquette and hygiene. As for the food, that was fine; no complaints there (so far at least, and it's now late evening). In fact, the broiled salmon was delicious. In the Hudson valley their are three good Chinese buffets one in Peekskill one in fish kill and this one in Kingston I believe mid Hudson is the best of the three. There are some diverse. Choices here including an American section with meatloaf and pizza. The cleanliness is always high and the food is always fresh as there are always plenty of customers here but you will never have to wait for a table. An Asian friend originally recommended mid Hudson to me and I'm glad I took her advice. One thing I would like to see on the menu would be pork fried rice instead of vegetable only. read more

I went there for the first time in a long time today. I used to love when they had crab legs on the buffet. They no longer have them on the buffet but they have a separate menu that you can order from. I got the crab legs with garlic butter sauce. It came with potatoes and corn. It was so good. It came with about 4 clusters of crab. I felt it was well worth the price. The next time I really want crab legs I will definitely come back. I also liked that with covid I didn't have to eat from the buffet and worry about cross contamination with the spoons. read more

This buffet used to be our favorite stop while shopping in Kingston, NY. Tonight we visited there for an early dinner. We were greeted at the door and seated. When we approached the buffet food serving area, many of the trays were not full. Many of the dishes appeared to be very greasy and unappealing. We tried two forms of soups and both were a big disappointment. The soups had absolutely no taste at all. The balance of the dishes were terribly bland and lacked any real taste. This buffet will not be visited by any of our family members any time soon. This visit was a total disappointment. In addition we wonder why the Board of Health has not shut this restaurant down for filthy condition of the restrooms. If you visit this establishment, avoid using the bathroom. It reminds me of the filthy places one would find in the squalor of third world country. read more

Maybe I'd be slightly more favorable to this establishment if I hadn't come down with food poisoning six hours later that left me throwing up, with nausea that was close to death, and everything else you can imagine that goes with it. I'm guessing the culprit was the salmon at the lunch buffet, but it really could have been anything. Since it was my only meal of the day, it had to be that. For 28 hours I suffered, able to eat nothing but crackers, wishing I had not been lured in by the low prices and the all-you-can-eat-ness of the experience. I will never return, so there will be no updates, no feel-good story where I say the owners and I now share Xmas holidays together and laugh about the good ol' days. Nope. No lie, I'm a fattie who has eaten at buffets all across the country, and this one is hands-down my favorite. The above reviews describe it perfectly, with the options of American and chinese food and dirt-cheap prices. My favorite has to be the weekend/holiday brunch for 6.99, where you get tons of American breakfast food (read: pan of bacon!) as well as typical american and chinese lunch offerings. I got soooooooo sick after my experience yesterday. I felt so sick, I thought I had a hangover that just didn't subside until 24 hours later. I know I get that way when there's MSG in the food, but this place always says they don't use MSG in there food : liars. And it's not this trip to this place that's made me feel this way. I had a bunch of the Chicken&broccoli mix as well as some of the sesame chicken, and some of the green beans. And don't forget about the cakes and stale pies and stale baklava. There were only a few edible pieces in the desert line. And try to provide a spoon that wasn't provided in the rice cooker. I wanted white rice, but when I opened the lid, there was no spoon. About the only thing that was edible here last night was the ice cream (with partially-stale sugar cones) and Knox-blox styled jello. Service has gotten better over the years; what once was where servers didn't understand a word of English (not even your drink order) now can understand your soda order and that's about it. After our server dropped our check, she rudely walked away and left our question standing without being answered! I don't even want to get into the disaster with the aisles being too thin where I couldn't move about very easily, and also, I chose not to take a piece of the garlic bread (where there was only 1 piece out on a plate) nor the salad buffet. I think I might be being generous with the four stars but I'll explain. They are open until 11. They shouldn't be. We needed a place to go. We showed up at ten. The Mongolian food looked like it had been sitting out for awhile. There was also no one to cook it so we just skipped that. There was like four pieces of vegetable sushi there. Some of the food on the buffet just looked like it had been sitting there too long. That said we picked through and found some really good stuff. The beef broccoli and crab stuffed mushrooms were great. We ordered crab legs. Those were good too. Our server was attentive but we were literally the only people in there. Everyone was nice. Until 11. Btw, we were standing up to leave so it wasn't a big deal but if you are ever there at 11, I thought the sky was falling. Everyone emerged into the dining room at once with garbage bins and loudly grabbed all the food and threw it away as fast as possible. People don't want to see that like that. We all know that buffet food gets thrown away but how it was being conducted in front of customers was just sad. It's like knowing valet probably drives your car irresponsibly but you don't see it so it's not there. We couldn't even talk to each other it was so loud. I give this place a 1 star because first off there was a waiter named Tony who was very RUDE. He had an attitude the whole time. He was acting strange talking to himself... singing to him self Etc.
