Avocado Benedict eggs & muffin - Yum
    Christine M.

In town for LAX and found this place on our way to another breakfast spot- luckily we chose Mid Kitchen instead! Friendly service, cool vibe and extraordinary breakfast choices. We had bowls, Benedicts, sandwiches & avocado toast: all well made, appetizing, and generously portioned. Even the coffees & cappuccinos were delish. Although we don't know the cafe's backstory we gather they're local & have a dedicated base as they greeted walk-ins by name! We'll be back to sample unique luncheon choices.

Sometimes you just need a place to talk. I didn't think much of the Mid when I first arrive to the space. I was looking for a nice spot to get coffee and maybe a meal while my friend and I caught up. I was greeted by very welcoming, colorful staff with great personalities. The interior was nice and comfortable. I wasn't even sure if I was going to eat food because the goal of the day was to make sure that my friend was comfortable. She very much enjoyed her meal. I tried her tea and it was delightful. After the conversation I was a bit hungry so I got the chicken and waffles with a coffee and it was good. Nothing to ride home about but good. I personally like chicken wings with waffles but the chicken breast was cooked well and the meal was decent. The mid is a perfect place for what I was personally looking for, a space to have a conversation over a light meal and it her much accomplished that. I would definitely recommend. The food was decent and reasonably priced. Not a bad choice for brunch with a friend. 3 of 5

Went here for brunch with mom and the place was packed! We got lucky that there was a table for two. We ordered the Avocado Benedict, Steak & Eggs, and the Cabbage Cucumber Tofu Salad. Would not recommend the Steak & Eggs for the amount and price and the Benedict was a bit hard to cut into, but other then that the food was good, especially the salad! Our server was really nice as well and checked up on customers frequently with plenty of coffee refills.

This was a great Turkish cuisine experience! When you check this place out try their traditional Shaksuka! It's wonderful! Also pictured was their green superfood omelet and their steak and eggs they have Turkish coffee as well as regular coffee and you have the choice of non-dairy creamers You could visit this restaurant for breakfast, lunch, or dinner they have so much to choose from! The service was super sweet and the ambiance is beautiful inside and out and of course we sat on the patio because why not?!:))

These pancakes. How do they let this out the door? Burnt cookies not too bad. Burnt pancakes, ugh. Their sausage was burnt but not too bad. Potatoes were crisp and delicious. To the Mid: This is the color of burntness.

generally a nice experience. food was just a tab bland but no other problems. sizable portions. the avocado fries were good. service was great.

Heh I saw Shokshuka on the menu which I don't see very often, and they did a real bang up job bringing it in a metal pan that was very hot, but the egg was nice and still liquid yolk, and aspicy sauce. more than I could even eat the coffee is the kind that they keep pouring in your cup refills so then I decided I had to have a cookie, and which they served It warmed up very nice! Friendly, and the owner out helping the server keeping customers happy

Ever since the yelp event, I have been wanting to take my family here! Covid made it a tad difficult, but I am glad we got to come for brunch today! Everything was delightful! The crab cake my hubby had was excellent! I didn't taste any breading at all! All seemed to be real crab meat :D The green shakshuka I had was a nice twist of the traditional one, which is always my go to if I see it on menu :) I def overate since we also ordered sides and fry bread for my daughter, and I ended up cleaning her plate

As always, this spot hits it out of the park. It just reopened this past week, and the flavors and hospitality are better than I remember. Shout out to the owners for the keeping this vegan friendly spot open, and to Grace our server for the top notch service!

Great brunch/lunch spot with a balanced menu of sweet & savory dishes. Waitstaff was knowledgeable and provided us with recommendations based on our hunger level. French toast - great texture and flavor. Not overwhelmingly covered in syrup like some places. Fresh fruit atop. Plenty to split between 2. Buddha bowl - lots of great flavors and different consistencies. Fresh falafel over a bed or carrots, beets (which i normally don't LOVE but in this dish I didn't mine), kale and cous cous. A great, hearty dish that masks the fact it's actually healthy! It doesn't look large in photos but be sure to come hungry if you're planning on getting this. Chicken club - pretty tasty, we loved the bread. Doesn't taste that similar to a traditional club but still a great dish that we would get again.

Was very pleasantly surprised to find the Turkish inspired food on their menu for breakfast. It's a cute little cafe with very sweet employees. I also appreciated how calm their atmosphere is, allowing for conversation without there being a rush.

I've dined here twice: once with my fiancé and a friend and the second time with a group of 8 people. The restaurant is relatively small, so expect to wait, and there isn't really a place to stand to wait, so you'll probably be outside, but it's worth the hassle! The restaurant is clean, bright, and the owners and waitstaff are extremely friendly and tentative. This last time (group of 8), we lucked out and managed to be seated immediately. They seemed a bit overwhelmed in the kitchen when we first walked in, but the waiter that greeted us didn't seem to sweat such a large group and they were very accommodating. Everyone loved their food and I was super excited to see that they now offer mimosas and bellinis. I was a bit irked that they snuck in an automatic 20% gratuity without telling us, because I wound up tipping on top of that since I was paying cash and trying to run out for an appointment, so the waitress walked away with a 90% tip. I'm fine being charged an automatic gratuity percentage for larger groups, just don't be sneaky about it and let us know :). I love that they have a variety of vegan options on their menu and everything seems to be fresh. I've had their vegan waffles (highly recommend even if you're not veg) and their vegan BLT. Both simple, but delicious. Their sammies do NOT come with sides, so expect to pay an extra $3-5 for a side of fries/fruit/etc. but the side portions are more than enough and you'll have leftovers. I'm not in Evanston often, but Mid Kitchen is such a gem that I'm more than willing to make the 30 minute hike for a delicious Sunday brunch anytime.

Cozy | Chicken and Waffles | Johana Gaines Cozy: The restaurant is very cozy. By cozy, I mean small, well done, and homey. The restaurant cannot sit more than 40 people. But, you feel like you are in your awesome southern grandmother's living room. Chicken and Waffles: I had the chicken and waffles. IT WAS AMAZING. The best part of it is the chicken is boneless and covers the entire waffle. So, with every bite, you get both CHICKEN AND WAFFLES. Normally dishes skimp on one of the two but they give you the same amount of both. THIS IS THE FIRST time I've ever had that. As a C&W connoisseur, I really appreciated this attention to detail. Johana Gaines: They had Johana Gaines level attention to detail with their meals, displays, and visuals. The C&W was divine. The overall decor feels like Fixer Upper with the black, white, grey and wood accents. Overall the restaurant is extremely clean, family-friendly, and welcoming. Pro tip: They charge 50 cents for the maple syrup. I found this surprising given I ordered chicken and waffles. I thought that was a standard condiment, but I guess not. Pro Tip: They do a 10% Northwestern Student Discount. All-day, every day. Pro tip: Per the staff, Mid Kitchen is the name because the head chef wanted to do an all-vegan restaurant but, given the market is ready for that he/she decided to have half vegan half regular. So the kitchen is "in the middle" of the two worlds.

Overall, everything tasted great, except I felt their sandwich was a bit salty. This isn't fine dining by any means, it's more of a vegan fast food restaurant. I love that they had various vegan and animal rights magazines on the counter for patrons to read. Also, the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. We learned that this location recently got a soft serve ice cream machine and they can make sundaes. We'll have to try that another time!

Blind Faith Cafe was easy to find and there was plenty of (paid) street parking available. We stopped by on a Saturday around 1pm without a reservation and we were able to be seated without wait in a booth. Service was kind but it was very clear they were busy. This was definitely a casual dining experience and we were not rushed through our meal. Inside this feels like a traditional more-than-a-diner but feels cozy like a local restaurant on a tv set where your favorite characters regular. I chose the chilaquiles, which came highly raved about by my friend who recommended Blind Faith. The eggs come any way you want, I chose over easy, they also let you choose between a tomatillo salsa verde or tomato ranchero salsa, I chose the salsa verde which was tangy with a kick but not spicy, just very flavorful. Both were described as relatively mild/not spicy to me by the staff. My best friend ordered the Vegan Mexican Breakfast with vegan cheese and my partner had the Huevos Rancheros, also choosing eggs over easy. Food came out pretty quick and looked delicious. Most notably everything was vibrant and looked so fresh. The serving sizes are large and were plenty for each of us. Prices are comparable to other brunch spots around the city and the quality was great. Blind Faith cafe was delicious and a good experience. The shallot rice with vegetables had no vegetables at all and tasted as if it was premade and warmed up again in the microwave. The shallot rice with beef was the same and contained tiny bits of burned beef. The sushi was not fresh and the crispy spring rolls were akin to dog treat sticks. The food is expensive and some of the worse food I've ever had. While I appreciate the business owners detailed response, there are contradictions. When ordering the shallot fried rice from the restaurants website on July 2, vegetables were included as an option. Today vegetables have been replaced with herbs. Nevertheless we chose the available vegetable option therefore vegetables were requested. The restaurant received our vegetables request as indicated on the pictured receipt and packaging. We received herbs and rice but no vegetables. We did not order through a third party delivery service. We placed the order through the restaurant website and I arrived early to pick up the food. I hope that the owner is able to receive my feedback constructively and take accountability for the issues my family encountered with the restaurant.

There was a live saxophone player and I loved the live flowers they had. Our waiter was extremely nice and took the time to explain the menu as well as their customer favorites. To start we order the chicken appetizer and fried beef on rice to share and unfortunately I did not snap a pic but these were listed under apps or shareables but the portions were extremely small. As our mains came I noticed that they were also small and each were around $20-$30 per plate. Not a bad thing if you don't eat much but I'm a big bang for buck type of gal. My family came to share and this place is a more fine dining thai restaurant which could explain the smaller portions. We ordered the pad Thai which was alright in my opinion I expected a little more flavor, the aubergine which was tossed vegetables as recommended by our waiter which was also ok not much flavor but beautiful plating though, and the coconut curry which was by far my favorite. If I were to come back here I would order that again, it was a nice light yet complex flavor profile which made me savor every bite. Overall good place for an upbeat fancier meal and I highly recommend the coconut curry braised chicken if you visit. Little pricey but that's just my opinion let me know what you guys think if you visit! Oh and they also give your receipt in a boat which they spin and leave a thank you card once you paid which was really cute.

Highly recommend the crab rangoon + soulful platter. ===== Stopped by one weekend near opening and was able to get seated right away! They have a good number of tables outside and inside and seem overall fairly popular since there were already a few tables before us. The menu is huge and had seemed to be mostly Asian-ish, with some other items sprinkled in. We ordered: - crab rangoon - 5/5 - very tasty and light, sauce was a great complement - soulful platter with 'chicken' wing - 4.5/5- loved the variety of components. The 'chicken' wing was a highlight and had great texture and flavor; cornbread was also really tasty. Mac and cheese had a strong nutritional yeast flavor, which I enjoyed, but kind of wish it were more cheesy. Mashed potatoes were ok. Generous portion of collard greens. - mush love - 3/5 - huge portion, but the breading was very thick and crunchy. I wish the individual pieces were split up more and the breading a bit lighter; i also wish the sauce were the same as the one for the crab rangoon. This one was more of a bbq. Definitely would come back to try more items on the menu! I was intrigued by the drinks, though they were extremely expensive (e.g. 9$+). Staff were friendly, and I appreciate the disclaimer on the menu that they pay their staff a livable wage.

I will not only never say that, but I will ALWAYS try something new. You should too. ON TO THE FOOD. I had heard talk of their Ramen, so I immediately ordered that. OH MY GAWD. It is so good. It tastes like "regular" ramen, but is 100% vegan. There was a strip of stuff (it was seitan) that looked like the pork belly that typically comes in Tonkatsu ramen. How is this not meat?! It was SO GOOD and had the texture of meat. But it wasn't meat. The broth is silky smoove, savory and . . . my gawd, I drank every single drop. The noodles and veg things that typically come in ramen were there, and just delicious. Writing this review, I am now craving this ramen. We had a couple other appetizers that were fantastic too! Some breaded mushroom app that was super tasty. I'm typically not a breaded food fan, but this was light and crispy and really tasty. The interior is spare, uncluttered, full of light and spotlessly clean. The staff is so helpful, friendly, and earnest with answering any questions. No booze, it's BYOB, but they have a lot of Kombuchas to try! A neighborhood gem that I will now keep in rotation when dining out.
