We called because the expander broke where it looks to be soldered together. It simply popped out. Called to inform the office and was told it's $400 to fix it. Explained it popped out not from eating or anything, it was repeated it's $400, if we write some story why it happened it might be discounted to $300. This must be normal for this office. It feels like you're being penalized they don't consider the quality of the bracket. Office was dismissive and didn't care about the concerns. Took out the brackets and dismissed the patient altogether. This experience is horrendous. I guess after paying for the 1st phase, they don't care if you continue with their office. I would look for other places, they're not the only place who can do it, but other places might appreciate the business and value their patients. read more

We went to Dr. Quo for my second set of braces- she was able to fix the protrusion that my first orthodontist didn't acknowledge. I wish I had come here in the first place- it would have saved $$$ and 2 years of wearing braces. I also went back recently, 7 years after getting my braces off, to replace my broken retainer. My teeth had shifted, but Dr. Quo adjusted the retainer to move my teeth back to perfect. Orthodontics is not just about appearance--it can be life-changing for breathing and overall health. For anyone interested, I recommend reading Breathe by James Nestor to understand how important airways are. Before seeing Dr. Quo and Dr. Schron, I suffered from debilitating chronic migraines, severe pain, light sensitivity, nausea. And I got terrible headaches when flying or at high altitudes. Scans showed I had very narrow airways, and I was nearly CPAP intolerant. After starting MSE (Maxillofacial Skeletal Expansion), the difference was almost immediate. My CPAP pressure has dropped from 9 to 4, and I'm hopeful I won't need a CPAP when expansion is complete. Even more amazing, I had no headache on my first night during two recent trips to Lake Tahoe--something that used to be miserable because of the altitude. Two things that could be improved at the practice are communication and education about the process. I later found a helpful video online that explained MSE and its benefits in a nutshell, and that would have been nice to see earlier because it was a bit of a leap of faith for me--but it worked out. There was also a logistical issue when I was notified two days before my procedure that the MSE device had not arrived yet. It was disappointing and inconvenient since we had already made arrangements, but I appreciated that they were able to complete the installation later that same week. Overall, Mid Peninsula Orthodontics has been a warm, friendly, and knowledgeable practice, and this treatment has truly been life-changing for me. As someone who moved here for a job I was looking for a good dentist to take care of my teeth which I had finished aligning years ago. However the conditions here were subpar at best. It seemed like the employees were overworked, as they were always rushed, and I was not sure if they were even given time to prepare things properly as I saw that parts of the unnoticeable areas were kept unclean. I brought my son here to be evaluated for braces. Instead was recommended to have spacers installed to help with the misaligned teeth and help with his cross bite. Andrea was our dental assistant and she was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the steps to take with this process. As well as being readily available whenever we needed her help post procedure with making adjustments and tightening the equipment. She was great!! I wore braces for about 4 years as a youngster followed by about 2 years in retainers. I wanted to keep my bottom teeth from shifting forward (as they tend to do with age) so my dentist referred me to Dr. Quo. After about 2 years in retainers to get them straight again, she put in a permanent retainer (a wire glued to the insides of my bottom teeth) so that they wouldn't shift. That was 10 years ago. Last night I was flossing my teeth and I accidentally dislodged the wire from the glue. I called them this morning and she was able to fit me in to get the wire glued back in. She also reinforced the other glue spots as well. I've always remembered her to be a compassionate and friendly Doctor. Her staff is very friendly as well. I was impressed she was able to fit me in the same day as I called. Prompt service to teeth issues are always appreciated. I probably won't have to see her again for another 10 years, but it doesn't matter. She's still a great Doctor. read more

I am an adult who had worn and chipped front teeth. Dr. Quo corrected my bite so I no longer cause excessive wear on my upper front teeth. She made enough room so I could have 3 new crowns in a more youthful length and shape. In addition, she improved my "gummy" smile. As I wore my teeth thinner and shorter, my front teeth kept extruding to keep enabling me to bite through my food. That resulted in my upper front teeth showing more gums than the rest of my teeth. It amazed me that Dr. Quo could intrude my front teeth to make my upper front gumline match my upper lip smile line and the bottom edges of my upper front teeth match my lower smile line. That means pushing my front teeth upwards and the gumline painlessly follows), into a more attractive shallow curve instead of my front teeth dipping lower than the rest. I had a treatment with Stacey Quo (I cannot call her Dr, because do not consider her to be one) ten years ago and to this day it is the worst thing which happened in my life. I suffer consequences of that treatment to this day and many dentists which I saw after her would point out that doing orthodontics in my case was a horrible mistake, which led to more issues with occlusion and TMJ, periodontal issues, unnecessary extraction of several healthy teeth leading to irreversible changes to functional occlusion. She treated me entirely with the focus on aethetics when I had none of those concerns about appearance. Overall, it felt to me like she is just running her business as a factory with assembly line workers. I can only give one advise based on my experience - avoid! read more

My first Yelp review ever, but my experience has been so frustrating and such a source of bad energy... perhaps my comments will save someone else angst. I had braces thru Dr. Quo as an adult 20 years ago - a fine experience. A solid Meets Expectations... she did what she said she'd do, on schedule, on budget. Over the past 5 years or so, I have watched my bottom teeth cant down on one side, distorting my jaw line. I thought for years this was just a byproduct of aging. Yet I decided to investigate since it is disfiguring and I am not so old that I am satisfied with a distorted face. Dr. Quo and I were off to a rocky start. Given that the office is a 30 minute drive each way and a consult is $75 (the subsequent two consults I had were complimentary), I asked if I might exchange an email with Dr. Quo explaining the situation, in case she was going to tell me flat out that there was nothing that could be done. The front desk was abrupt and tried to put me off, yet finally provided an email address that I could use; email sent June 20. Happened to see my dentist 10 days later and mentioned I hadn't gotten a response; he emailed Dr. Quo and so I got a call from the office after July 4th telling me that I needed to make an appt, which I did for July 11. At the appointment Dr. Quo was very agitated (I am guessing she was embarrassed as I did - very calmly - share my frustration with the front desk staff and lack of response to my email, despite multiple calls on my part, until my dentist stepped in). Dr. Quo quizzed me about what meds I take in the open office in front of adults standing around while their kids were getting adjustments (Hello HIPA). She clearly had never seen my situation before and was puzzled. She decided that either the fixed wire "retainer" behind my lower front teeth (that she installed when my braces were first taken off) was "bent" and causing the canting, OR my tongue was pushing my teeth and causing them to cant. I was promised a quote for fixing my teeth - a second time. Finally on July 28 I got an email with the pictures taken on July 11. I replied asking for the promised quote and Visit Notes; the quote was sent Aug 1 but it took a third email from me to get the Notes. (These dates are exact; I am looking at the saved email thread.) BTW the quote is high... definitely no allowance made for the fact that I already paid Dr. Quo full price to have my teeth straightened. Since I saw two other orthodontists for their opinions. They both quickly ascertained the situation as they have seen this problem before... the wire "unwrapping" or bending to cause the teeth to move out of position - basically the wire is acting as ANTI-braces. This confirmed my suspicion that Dr. Quo didn't want the wire she installed - and never suggested follow up appointments to check on to be sure it wasn't causing problems! - to be the culprit. Note: my teeth are NOT jutting forward as you would expect if my tongue was pushing them, or if they are it is so minor I cannot see it. What is happening is that my teeth have quite noticealbly dropped vertically on one side, so the line of my bottom teeth is not parallel to my shoulders. The other two orthodontists did not think my tongue is causing my lower teeth to drop down. I got distracted by an unrelated urgent medical situation and a family wedding, yet circled back and sent another email to the address provided by Dr. Quo's office (the front desk staff's strengths do not extend past making an appt) on Oct 26, asking if Dr. Quo would be willing to remove the wire that is causing my teeth to shift - I want to mitigate further shifting (this until I can zero in on a treatment plan once my medical problem is resolved). I received a response to my email acknowledging that it was received and forwarded to Dr. Quo's main assistant who sent me the pictures and quote. I responded the next day thanking them and letting them know I looked forward to a reply. Here it is, Nov 9, two weeks later, no response. Interestingly, there are other reviews WRT wire retainers she put on and very poor "continuing care" post braces. Again, NO mention of required follow up care was made when my braces were removed. It seems Dr. Quo is fine with new patients, but reluctant to own up to and fix problems prior patients have down the road. Buyer Beware. There are MANY competent, pleasant orthodontists in the area with pleasant, well trained, responsive staffs. There is no need to see Dr. Quo. read more

I had a horrible experience with Dr. Quo. I saw her from January 2005 to June 2006. The start of treatment was delayed several months just because her office coordinator couldn't get it together enough to figure out my insurance situation (I was a surgical case). Dr. Quo couldn't refer me to anyone in my network so I was on my own to find a surgeon. Then I found one and the communication was so poor that my treatment dragged on much longer than it needed to. She didn't address problems I had with my jaw joints and then when she realized the surgeon was upset with her for not having done this, she backtracked and tried to change my treatment all around. She could never explain anything clearly which left me needing to contact her a lot with questions and her office staff would tell me completely contradictory information. It was a HUGE MESS. She ended up telling me that she thought I'd be better treated by another orthodontist and told me she was giving me a FULL refund. I suspect she knew she messed up my case and gave me the refund in order to avoid any legal repercussions. I ended up finding a much better orthodontist that could actually *communicate*, had my surgery, and finished up treatment. In total it took nearly 3 years to complete when it should have only taken about 2. read more
