Needed an oil change and a headlight replacement. Called on Wed, Aug 13 and the gentleman stated they had the headlight in stock. Showed up on Aug 16 for a scheduled appointment and no headlight. They had to go out and source the headlight. The charge for the light was significantly higher than Amazon and other vendors. I needed the lights changed that day so ate the price. Let's just come out and say it. Your greatest fear with any automotive issue is that you're about be ripped off harder than a Roswell alien probing. However, the guys at this Midas were honest and professional all the way. They diagnosed my chariot's problem in about 15 minutes--a cracked y pipe--and gave me the options of either welding the piece for $120 or replacing it for$240. I believe Midas parts are guaranteed for the life of your vehicle, so I opted for the new part. This of course meant that I would have to return the next until the part was in, but the Midas boys were right on schedule, so I was in and out of there in a flat 90 minutes. I couldn't be happier with my Midas experience; my car purrs like some ninja cat and my wallet didn't suffer too much of a beating. I would certainly return to this shop again, for these guys were nothing but fair and professional. read more

I appreciate Midas being able to see me on short notice, but quick availability isn't everything. Came here on Labor Day to get my oil changed and have a muffler noise issue checked out. The manager was pleasant both during the phone discussion and in-person service. While he certified on the phone and when I arrived that I had a coupon which would be applied, they failed to apply it during check-out and I only realized their mistake after I left. After waiting about 20-25 minutes longer than quoted (surprising given how few customers there were here), the manager called me over and said they wouldn't be able to address the muffler issue, something about a heat shield. Given the common car I drive (Camry) and the fact that Midas is known for handling muffler issues, I was surprised they didn't know how to help me with my issue. On top of all that, there was what appeared to be a new scratch on my vehicle upon receiving it back, which wasn't surprising given how the tech was whipping customers' cars in and out of the bays like a rally racer. So I ended up not getting coupon credit, only getting one of my two issues addressed, getting a new scratch issue I had to fix myself, and stayed longer than expected. Not an ideal experience. The car's oil change seems fine, at least. I think I just jinxed myself by saying that. Overall: 2.0 stars ---- Pros: - They were able to see me the same day I requested an appointment. - The manager was very pleasant. - $62 for an oil change is good... Cons: -... so long as you double-check to make sure they actually apply the coupon that they already said they would. - The muffler issue couldn't be addressed... by a place known for specializing in muffler repair. - Add 25 minutes to your expected stay on top of what they quote you. - Going through all this only to get my poor car scratched by a thoughtless tech is enough to make me want to take care of my own oil changes from now on. Went to this MIDAS to get my A/C fixed as it was not blowing cold air. After 2 hours, mechanic called to let me know it was "fixed." I paid ~$300 dollars and drove off. However, the A/C was never fixed. I tried giving it the benefit of the doubt by giving it time. I went back asking the mechanic why it wasn't fixed. He told me "oh it's because there is another issue that needs to be fixed" and told me I need to pay another $1000 dollars to get the A/C unit fixed. I asked him what was the $300 dollars for? He had no good explanation, telling me it had to be done to find out more about the condition of the A/C. What? I'm no mechanic but I can hear BS when I hear one. The mechanic said he'll call me back next morning for a quote on how much the part will cost. It's been THREE days, and no call. Ridiculous. If you don't want to get scammed, I highly advise not coming here. read more

I'm giving one star simply because I can't complete the review without one. I went to Midas location 3100 Duke Street, Alexandria Va, for a simple oil change and tire rotation. I dropped my 2018 Infinity QX 30 off and 1 1/2 later, I received a phone call saying my vehicle was ready for pickup and the oil change was done. 20 minutes later, I arrive to pickup my vehicle, my first instinct was, why is the service writer sitting in my vehicle resetting my dashboard instead of the mechanic that changed the oil. Then I go inside to pay for the oil change, informed there was an upcharge because my vehicle uses an additional quart of oil and I didn't need my tires rotated, I should get it done next time, although I clearly said I wanted my tires rotated. Left on Duke Street, right on Quaker lane, my car starts to make a loud clacking sound. I pull over, look under the car, thing maybe they left a flap hanging or something. I see nothing, so I'm thinking maybe it was something in the neighborhood. Anyway, I start driving again only to hear the same clacking noise, only louder. I pull over in a shopping center and call Midas. I'm telling them, my car is tickling like there is no oil in the car. Well, you must have a leak and it all leaked out somehow. Absolutely Not! There was Not One Drop of Oil In My Car!!! Two hours later, Midas sends a tow truck to pickup my car. I never received another call telling me my car was ready for pickup so I go to Midas after work. 4 pm, I arrive to pick-up my vehicle, the service writer the mechanic forgot to refill the oil in my car. SMH Yes, the refunded my money and I was told the owner wanted to send me a check for $100 for my inconvenience. Who would have thought the getting a oil change would result in No Oil in your vechicle!! Ladies get to know your vehicle so your not a victim too, I'm sure I avoided a disaster! Had to get my car emission tested. By far this is the smallest Midas I've been to...and I think it's because it's off of a busy road with a tight parking lot. When I pulled in, I prayed that someone would put my vehicle in the right direction for me to get out...because if I were up to my own devices...well...lol. Anyway this is the only place I could find that had an emissions tester after 5 pm. I went in, signed the paperwork, and had a seat. I had a few questions about inpections/emissions since this is my first time getting one in this state. But the guy helping me was clueless. Luckily another guy in the back was able to answer them. One more thing about this location...they actually have the prices listed on their board. Yes, I had to take a pic. Every other Midas I've gone to never had their prices listed. I came here for an oil change and did not have a good experience. I made an appointment online, but their appointment software was malfunctioning and so they did not have a record of the appointment. Once they started, they didn't have the right filter and had to order one from a different store. I sat in their waiting area for over 2.5 hours so the filter could arrive and they could do the oil change. I was expecting to pay about $75 for a synthetic oil change. They charged me for labor (?), which I've never seen before for an oil change and they charged me $27 to rotate the tires. The total for an oil change and rotating the tires was $127. Between the cost and it taking over 2.5 hours, I was not a happy camper. read more

I'm actually kind of embarassed to be writing this because I got ripped off. I came in for a check engine light. They did the one hour diagnostic, said I need a new gas cap. Also three of my tires had dry rot so I should get 3 new ones. The gas cap was 130 and the 3 tires, for my compact car, were like 700. After labor was included that was 1000 dollars for 3 tires and a gas cap. I came here because the yelp reviews said this place was honest. I know a lot of the blame falls on me for not negotiating or being a smarter shopper, but if you don't think 1000 bucks for 3 tires and a gas cap is a fair price I'd suggest going elsewhere. read more

I had a rapidly deflating tire and was overdue for an oil change, so I took my day off from work, called this shop to see if I could be seen, and drove on over. The man behind the counter said it wouldn't take long and asked if I would be waiting or dropping off. I told him that I had some errands to run (go to CVS next door, run across the street to grab lunch at Noodles & Company, and then grab some groceries from Giant). He said that was fine, it shouldn't take but an hour or two. Well, I ended up having to make a few calls while I was having lunch, so I didn't make it back over to Midas for about three hours... When I walked up to my car in the lot, I noticed that it had not moved or been fixed. The guy from before ran out from inside and said, "Oh, I didn't know you were waiting... you gonna stick around?" I reminded him that I wasn't leaving in the first place and he said they'd "get it on the rack real soon." I ended up sitting next door at the DUnkin' Donuts for another hour and a half. If that wasn't bad enough, they "patched" my tire (for $50)... but a week later, my tire was flat again and when I called them up, they told me there was no way to know if it was their work that was faulty or if I did something else to the car after I left. Nice. I ended up taking the car to Yates a couple miles away who confirmed the faulty patchwork, cleaned it out, and then fixed the problem for half the price of Midas. On top of that, Yates is across the street from a metro and the staff was so much friendlier. I went to Midas because I'm relatively new to the immediate area and wanted an easy auto shop to get to... now that I know, I'll be taking my cars to Yates instead. read more

Came on a Saturday for break inspection and Upon arrival I asked to add an oil change, the gentleman was very accommodating and said it was not a problem . He even asked if I had a coupon (which I did) some places seem to shy away from coupons if you don't say you have one. When I cam he assured me my car would be taken back as soon as possible . My total wait time was about and hour and a half . My oil change was completed and my break inspection. I was notified on what my problem areas were and also given a quote for the service (was a bit pricey ). I recommend this location ...only thing is the waiting area is small only holds about 5/6 people . The guys were friendly to everyone who came in and seemed very honest once it got crowded they notified walk-ins that it would be a long wait . I can see the guys working on the cars and they all seemed focused no horse playing or attitudes. This is not my local Midas but I trust the guys here so I take the ride to Alexandria for the quality of service . read more

I went here due to the high ratings to get my oil changed and tires rotated for a trip I was taking Memorial weekend. The tech was only able to rotate my left tires because they said they couldn't get my right side wheel locks off. The tech did not tighten up the one he attempted because he broke my wheel lock and the lug nut fell off during my 500 mile trip! Luckily, I was able to complete the trip without incident. I'd recommend safety measures be put in place to ensure this does not happen to another customer. read more

This seriously is as good as it gets for auto service. I have a brand new 2011 Nissan Sentra, and have very quickly put on about 7,700 miles (4 months). Factory recommendations call for oil change and tire rotation and tune-up at 7,500 miles. The quote I received from the dealership was $130. I then called another reputable independent auto service center in Silver Spring, MD and they quoted me $80-$95 for the job. After a little research and a coupon I found at midas.com, Midas scheduled me two hours later and completed the job for $31. This included oil change, tire rotation, factory recommended service/inspection (brakes, hoses, belts, valves, parts, etc.), and even included labor. They completed the work at lunchtime in about 45 minutes and offered to call my cell when they were done. In the meantime I walked across the street to the large shopping center and had a sandwich. I highly recommend Midas Auto Service Experts of Alexandria (3100 Duke Street). The gentleman who greeted me was Jerry, and he was very nice and reassuring. He commented on how everything was in good shape and no "additional" work was needed (many mechanics sell you on unnecessary work)... They were friendly, honest, direct, fast, and affordable. After a somewhat disastrous encounter with the Jiffy Lube down the road (see my previous reviews), I made an appointment with this Midas, mostly because they constantly offer coupons for the basic services. After I emailed for an appointment on a Sunday, I got a response within the first business hour the next day, which was impressive. I brought my car in a few minutes before my appointment, but they took my car right in and told us it would be about 45 minutes to an hour. We left to walk around and try to kill some time. About 35 minutes in, they called me to make sure it was okay they replace my oil filter with the recommended kind that cost $7 extra. I told them to go ahead, and appreciated that they called me beforehand to check. We walked back down to Midas and sat in the waiting room. When they saw that we were back, they told me that my car was ready, meaning they actually finished it sooner than the initial estimate. The total for an oil and filter change, tire rotation and inspection, and visual brake check was $37. Jiffy Lube down the street charges $40 JUST for the oil change, to give you a comparison. It was so nice to go to a car service location that didn't try to sell me on an infinite number of upgrades/changes that I should make, especially because I usually have no idea what they're talking about. That's why I now bring the boy when I have to get anything done on my car. This place definitely has great and quick service, and the car rode well after we left, but here's why I didn't give it 5 stars: 1) The parking lot is small and can be dangerous if there are people leaving and entering at the same time. Be careful. 2) The gentleman who helped us at the counter, though he seemed competent, was a bit...odd. We had never been there before, which he knew, and obviously, every service location has a different way of doing things. I didn't feel like he did a good job of guiding us after I said "I have a service appoint at 12:30." He just kind of looked at me like "And...?" Luckily we knew the questions to ask next, but I would have liked a little more customer service and info since we were new. I'll definitely be going back to this place, and I recommend it. I appreciate that our loyalty is rewarded - he remembers us and our cars in addition to ensuring we get the best deal with current coupons. Service is fast and communication is good. Just took my Civic in for its 60k tune-up. Jerry talked through the estimate with me and, although it was a good amount of money, I'm confident he didn't do unnecessary work and the itemized receipt was very easy to follow. As a woman, sometimes I get a bit nervous about mechanics. Dealers overcharge and independent shops often seem to have no accountability. Often mechanics don't take women seriously when they discuss what is wrong with the vehicle. I grew up in the back of an auto repair shop and Jerry's never tried to pull fast one on me or treated me like I'm an idiot. I took my Yukon in for a new catalytic converter and while it was there I had them tackle a laundry list of routine service: radiator flush, service differentials, turn rotors...
