I purchase a coupon on Groupon. It was great deal because they have extra $off today. Price: Great on Groupon. VA state inspection and emission is usually $21 but $16 today on Groupon;) Customer service: The staffs are super nice. They should fix the waiting room tho. It has strange smell now. At least extra cleaning is required. Waiting time: I went there around 8:30 and 3 ppl were waiting. I waited for my turn about 30 mints and the inspection within 30 mints. Parking lot: Street.

I usually feel like I'm being hustled by auto repair shops (because I am) but I like these folks. He showed me what was wrong with my tires (the rear pair were basically bald on the on the part closest to the brakes) before taking my loot! I like a girl to take me to dinner before she tries to get in my pants! They hooked me up with a great set of tires and saved me a couple hundred dollars. Used tires shops are great if they have quality radials on hand, and this place was fully stocked with tires for big boy vehicles (19 inch rims or better). The place doesn't look like much and it's not the most organized operation, but it doesn't need to be. They offer a guarantee and stand by it. That is perfect for me. It the automotive repair world, a used tire shop is like a dive bar, where Tesla is like Ruth's Chis. Both a great as long as you know what to expect. I would have given them a 5 if they had a couple more seats for customers waiting on vehicles.

Serviced both of my cars for inspection and emissions, and found out they also do oil changes. This is a great find in my neighborhood.

Problem number 1: the "complimentary inspection" was free, however them actually diagnosing the problem was a whopping $219.46. So, then the inspection was not free at all. Problem number 2: the quoted me at $2900 dollars to do the bear MINIMUM of repairs (air/fuel induction service, replacing an 02 sensor, MAF cleaning). Took it to another place, and I only needed to do ONE of those things for $300. Problem number 3: They insisted on me replacing my crankshaft main oil seal which would have cost me another $5000 dollars. Problem number 4: when I said this was way too much money for what I needed as I stated when I walked in that I only needed whatever had to be done to pass inspections and testing for registration and that I would come back to get my car, my Lyft to get there that is supposed to be paid for was not. They did pay for my one home, but not for the one back. Problem number 5: I only asked them to look at 2 specific things, the oil and my O2 issue, however they decided to also try having me pay another $10,000 in preventative maintenance services. problem number 6: They performed a service without asking me when I had clearly told them not to perform any service on my car after they provided the prices to me. However, they still performed the oil change anyway and charged me $119.95 for it. So despite me not wanting ANY service done, I still had to pay $389.53 just to get my car back and take it to another place. I simply cannot recommend this business to anyone when this is the kind of treatment and prices. If I had gone along with their business they were providing, I would've paid for more money in services than I would have just buying the car. I bought this car for $14,000. They were wanting to have me pay over $1500 more than what my car was even worth when I had purchased it. Save yourself the headache and wallet pain and go somewhere else.

After he scolded the worker for leaving it on the floor, I questioned the safety of my tire. I was told it the bulb was plastic and for me not to worry about it. Then the high pressure salesman came at me to add the suggested transmission fluid change for $200+ (down to $180'ish with his discount code). I told him no, the dealer cost for the Honda 25k service was $225 and included the oil change, transmission fluid change and tire rotation. He told me multiple times that I was wrong, telling me I must have misunderstood the dealer. I found that to be VERY disrespectful to me as a woman. I was at the Honda dealer and received a written quote. I know it was right bc I had the convo with them personally. I have used Valvoline for years on multiple vehicles in two states. I'm new to Alexandria however after this treatment l, I will NOT be returning to Duke street or maybe even to Valvoline for that matter. Very poor customer shaming, hard sell techniques and safety compliance. Get your oil changed somewhere else.

Turned out my wheel bearings were rusted on (something I suspected). They waived the inspection fee but it was still pretty pricey. At the end of the day you do get what you pay for - good friendly service and no BS. There were other minor issues with my car that any other provider would have happily tried to overcharge me for but the service tech mentioned them and either knew I could get them done (battery change, wipers, etc) or was not a pressing issue. Expect their prices to be on the higher end. For quality service, I'd recommend it.

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience here. I previously had my vehicle inspected at…read morethis shop on December 20, and it passed inspection despite the same minor damage to the rear light being present. This crack has actually been there since October 2022 and has passed Virginia safety inspections multiple times since by a myriad of safety officers at different shops. Now I'm suddenly being told that the vehicle will not pass because of this crack, and I was quoted - nearly $500 to replace it which is way more than twice what I have found this repair can cost elsewhere. When I questioned why something that has repeatedly passed inspection is suddenly being rejected, I was told they have a new safety inspector. I understand that inspectors must follow Virginia's requirements, but that explanation raises concerns about this shops consistency. Customers should be able to expect the same inspection standards regardless of which employee happens to perform the inspection. What was especially concerning to me was the apparent lack of a consistent standard operating procedure. If one inspector repeatedly approves an existing condition and another rejects it, there should at least be a clear and consistent explanation for the difference. I have no issue repairing something that legitimately does not meet Virginia's safety requirements. My issue is the combination of inconsistent inspection practices and then immediately being quoted nearly $500 for the repair. Given the history of this light passing inspection and the amount being charged to replace it, the entire experience unfortunately felt like a money grab to me. This experience has seriously damaged my confidence in this business. I would recommend that anyone receiving a rejection here ask to be shown the exact reason for the failure and get a second opinion and outside repair quote before authorizing any work.

Mechanics are honest, don't overcharge, and in my case, actually undercharged me the last time I was in. They only charged me for 1/2 an hour of work, $80, even though two different mechanics had looked at it multiple times to try to identify a slight rattling noise. They said it is not a safety issue, they will look again the next time I get an oil change, and if it gets worse they will be able to identify and fix it but as it isn't a safety issue they don't want me to put money in it unnecessarily at this time. They did let me know of some repairs I will need in the next year. I never feel like anyone there talks to me differently or charges me differently for being a woman, which is a stereotype you hear about mechanics (though honestly I've dealt with that more with HVAC techs, but I digress). When I dropped my car off on a thursday evening for a friday appointment, Rich called me back an hour later just to let me know he had looked at it already and didn't think it was anything to be concerned about but would do more work in the morning, which i really appreciated. When I was leaving after picking up my car I spoke to a woman who had been going here for, I think 15 years and said Rich takes great care of her antique car. The only other thing I'll add is the store has stickers on the door in support of gay rights and BLM, which you just don't see at mechanic shops, and I feel good about supporting a shop that supports my values. My assumption is the stickers signify all customers are welcome and will be treated fairly, which maybe isn't always the case in mostly straight white male-owned spaces.
