They let me know that another state inspection is not needed if the sticker in my windshield is still recent and did not try to upsell me on something that I did not need. They were also kind enough to help me put on my new plates free of charge, and the receptionist was very friendly. Took my car here for a state inspection. They failed it for steering rack boots which it did need. I changed them myself. I didn't have cotter pins for the castle nuts on the tie rods (I'm in the middle of moving so couldn't find them). I asked them to put some on when I came back for reinspection. They charged me over $60 for a 3 cent part that takes 2 minutes to put on. I would've been happy to pay $10-$15 for this. Many would do it for free. Don't go here. I can only imagine how badly they rip people off on other things. read more

I usually feel like I'm being hustled by auto repair shops (because I am) but I like these folks. He showed me what was wrong with my tires (the rear pair were basically bald on the on the part closest to the brakes) before taking my loot! I like a girl to take me to dinner before she tries to get in my pants! They hooked me up with a great set of tires and saved me a couple hundred dollars. Used tires shops are great if they have quality radials on hand, and this place was fully stocked with tires for big boy vehicles (19 inch rims or better). The place doesn't look like much and it's not the most organized operation, but it doesn't need to be. They offer a guarantee and stand by it. That is perfect for me. It the automotive repair world, a used tire shop is like a dive bar, where Tesla is like Ruth's Chis. Both a great as long as you know what to expect. I would have given them a 5 if they had a couple more seats for customers waiting on vehicles. read more

Highlights - - Finding this place - When you make a left on Oakland st, it's on your right. You will see a bunch of cars outside and a "state inspections/emissions" sign. - Emissions take about 30 min but there are always people waiting. 4 people ahead of you? That's a 2 hour wait. Come here early if you dont want to wait. I came here on a Sat at 7:20am when they open at 8am. Already 1 person ahead of me lol. - The guys seem legit and from the reviews, do a great job. The staff was super nice so i almost feel bad only leaving two stars. However I had to wait almost two hours for an inspection despite being the first one there (machine was being worked on apparently). My car was failed, i was told the parking break sticks (ive never had this issue). I asked for a quote on what would be needed to fix this issue and was told around $200 (a fair price- if i actually needed the work done). I took the car home and used a little w d40 on all the parking break components, even though i was not experiencing any issues with locking. After going back the next week my car was passed. As a female in my 20's i wondered if i was being targeted with an unneeded expense, i just happened to be pretty knowledgable about some of the more simple car mechanics and recognized this was not an issue i needed to spend $200 on. Of course there is the chance that the parking break did legitimately stick that one time and they had no choice but to fail the inspection. However, im still giving them a low rating due to the large waste of my time. Also there is absolutely no parking available for customers there. After being told i was good to go and given my keys i had to track down the person who parked their car illegally on the road behind my car, blocking me in. read more

~~BEWARE OF INSPECTION GROUPON~~ I needed an emissions and safety inspection on my two cars. Figuring it would be great to save a buck, I found their Groupon and purchased two, one for each car. I drove over at 10:00am on Saturday. They told me I was 3rd in line, and it would be an HOUR AND A HALF wait. Are you kidding me? I have been to several garages in the area for these inspections, never waited more than 20 minutes. These inspections take 10-15 minutes everywhere else in the world, but somehow three times as long at Automotive Express. There were 3 mechanics crammed into the tiny waiting area, chatting and on the computer. Around back, there's one tired guy trying to get the inspections done. I think that because they get most inspection work through Groupon, they already have the money, so there's no incentive to provide any level of service. They assign one guy to it while the rest just relax. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I said "Hey I get that I'm here on a Saturday. If I come back during the week, maybe the wait will be shorter?" He said "Actually during the week it's usually a 5 hour wait." FIVE HOURS? For what should be a 15-minute walk-up inspection? You've got to be sh*tting me. I'm so thankful that I contacted Groupon within 24 hours of my purchase. I told them about the business practices and they refunded me my money no further questions asked. It's not worth the discount to come to these guys. Really makes me wonder if I did get my inspection done here if they'd scam fail me on something just to try to drum up more business. Call at 8 am to see if they could look at a 2020 Range Rover with a low coolant indicator warning and Tracy said to bring the vehicle in. Received a call at 10:15 am stating the vehicle is ready and a explanation of actions took to address issue. The service was prompt, friendly and most importantly honest. The shop stated that there could have been a air pocket but the coolant was not low. I was not charged for the top off of coolant nor was I given a bill for unrelated services. I'm confused at all the positive ratings for this place. When I came at 3pm on a Wednesday, there was no place to park, but also no one in the waiting area. The lady at the desk asked me if I wanted a safety inspection and then for my keys. She Didn't tell me the price or the wait time. When I asked I was told it was a 2 hour wait for a simple inspection. The waiting area had no air conditioning and didn't provide customers with wifi. Definitely will not return in the future. Had a groupon deal for the state inspection and emissions so that's the only reason I came. Waited about 3 hours for them to inspect my car. Everything came back good other than the windshield wipers. Hmm, that's pretty odd to reject my car for inspection because of the windshield wipers (which to be honest, were actually not that bad and they could easily let you pass with that). Fine, how much will you charge for new wipers...they quoted me around $30...for windshield wipers. I'm an auto person so I know it was a huge ripoff but this was the ONLY reason they did not pass me so I asked them if they can charge me a reasonable price and I'll install the wipers (it takes 20 seconds), but he wouldn't budge. Okay fine, I'll go and get the wipers from Autozone, pay $10-15 for everything and come back to pass the inspection. Ha, it's never that easy with people trying to scam you. Well, I come back 30 mins later, the main guy (not sure the name), makes me wait in line again in order to simply check off on the wipers. All in all, I spent my whole day off getting this work done. I guess they were mad that a) I had a groupon deal, and b) that I went to get my own windshield wipers because they were charging me double of the price of the wipers. I told them I didnt appreciate them trying to rip me off and making me have to wait in line again and they said something along the lines of "well, you didnt have to come back here for re-inspection, you could have gone anywhere else"- yeah not really because you just took my money from me for the initial inspection. That's the hustle, if you have a nice car (and assume you have money), they will ding you for something small and expect you to pay their price (absolutely not market price), in order to pass the state inspection. If you read the other reviews here, you'll see this is a common issue with them. I too, don't appreciate people trying to nickle and dime me. First and last time going here. read more

I bought a tire from this place and 3 days after the tire got flat. I went to get a refund and they did not want to be responsable for it or do anything about it. I was trying to safe some money by buying a used tire but I ended up spending more bc now I don't trust these places so I bought new ones and spent $85 in a shitty tire that did not last at least a week because if the tire was good as they said when I bought it it wouldn't have lasted only 3 days. I admittedly am not a big car buff, but when I saw a Groupon to Automotive Express for a $21 safety and emissions test, I went for it. They're a little hard to find - they're in the 3800 S Four Mile Run building, but to access their office and their garage, you need to turn into S Oakland Street. The sign is easy to spot once you turn in. They turned around the safety and emissions test in about 20 minutes! It was the fastest one I've ever had (they said the beginning of the month is not as busy as the end). The employees were all nice and courteous to boot. Took my car in for an inspection and emissions testing. While the tests were fast and they happened to have a deal on Groupon that made the inspection cheaper, I left feeling quite uncomfortable. The inspector told me that my transmission pan was leaking and that my rear brakes barely passed inspection and immediately handed me a card saying they could quote the price to get that all fixed. I had JUST bought the car from someone who I know takes exceptional care of their vehicles and was suspicious to say the least at these claims. I brought the car into the garage I have used for the last year and a half, they inspected my car and said my rear brakes had more than enough life left in them and that there was no leak in my transmission pan. There's a few businesses on the street that go by this name. I suspect that they're all just different branches of the business. I went here to check out a flat I had on my tires and the guys really helped me out. First they filled my tires back up with air and were about to let me go free of charge until I told them this was an ongoing problem. They proceeded to remove the wheels and check for leaks and whatnot where they found a nail and that two of the rims were severely corroded, preventing a proper seal between rim and rubber. They sanded it down instead of telling me to get new rims and in the end charged me much less than what I was expecting. I really appreciated them taking the time to show me the issues as they were inspecting the problem which helps alleviate concerns of being suckered. If I had any issues with my tires, I would definitely come here again. Only issues I have with this place is that there's no waiting area. It was kind of awkward being in everyone's way. read more

I got there around 10am for an inspection and waited for a total of an hour. There were a few people in front of me, so this was pretty reasonable. Definitely check Groupon for any inspection and emission deals! I ended up paying $8 for my state inspection, and they were kind enough to reset a couple warning lights that popped up because of an earlier flat I'd gotten. Just FYI - and this in no way diminishes the great service - but the waiting room was very cold. I went in the dead of winter, so the insulation just probably isn't the best. I came to Automotive Express to get some used tires as my current tires failed inspection due to the alignment being off. Raphael not only quoted me a cheaper price than anywhere else I've gone in the area before but had a number of options available to suit my needs. When it turned out that none of the used tires in stock would've been a good fit, he called the neighbor store to see if they had four tires then negotiated a lower price. That sort of customer is unseen from a franchise and not common even in local businesses. To put the icing on the cake, I asked if he knew a good place to get auto repairs. I had a place nearby I was going to for years but the head mechanic, Ed had left and it hadn't been the same since. As it turns out, not only did that shop lie to me about where he went, it turns out he went to Automotive Express right down the street! And to my surprise the alignment price he quoted me was half of what my other shop did! Before meeting Ed at the other shop I got ripped off at a number of places and was convinced there was no shop like these around, But not so. Dealing with people like Raphael and Ed serve as a reminder that a level in customer service and quality work that is a thing our parents reminisce over still exists and deserve our support. If there is anything else to add it'd be that South Four Mile Run might not have the visual aesthetic of most of Arlington but it contains some of the best hidden gems around so don't judge a book by it's cover. I'm new to the area and needed an oil change. Saw that this place got great Yelp reviews, so on Wednesday night I booked an appointment online for Saturday morning. I received an email back on Thursday afternoon saying that the time I selected was available. On Saturday, it took me a few extra minutes to find the place because it's down a side street/dead end. The street was very busy and I was unsure where I could put my car while I went inside. I found a spot, but someone working there needed it for another vehicle and took care of it for me. Like others, we found this place because of the Groupon for half off emissions test. They were SO great that we went back today to get more work done on the car. Manny and the rest of the crew were so, so polite and nice that that alone made us want to come back. We actually failed the safety test because we needed to rear breaks and pads. We usually go to the dealership to get all of the work done but Manny quoted us $120 cheaper for the work. Because he was so nice and helpful when we initially came in for the test we decided to come back and give them the work. The only reason I gave them 4 starts instead of 5 is because it took a really long time to get the work done. Yes, we went in on a saturday but we were the first people there at 8am and were told that it would be less then 2 hours. It actually took around 3 hours. That was a little aggravating.
