I have found that this place tries to upsell items/services that your car doesn't need. I went here for a simple oil change. After changing the oil they suggested several types of repairs. I then asked what needed to be done for me to drive the car home today safely if I were to come back tomorrow. They said "definitely flush the power steering and change the air filter now, the other things don't need to be done immediately." Flush the power steering liquid; are you kidding me. If you google that phrase with "scam" or "rip off" you will get a bunch of hits, and to claim it was needed right now ruined their credibility. These flushes didn't even exist until the 2000s, how did cars get along without them if they are so critical? Its not like power steering is that new. I then chose to refuse all their services except the oil change. They were visibly agitated. I do think the air filter probably did need replacing, so I went to AutoZone bought the part for $9 and changed it myself. It took 5 minutes for a clueless person like me, so it will probably take someone who actually has opened the hood of their car before 30 seconds. To think they were going to charge $80 for that. The oil change was fine though and was cheap for Ithaca, worth a star, I guess. Make sure you go in with the mindset that you will refuse all other services though. Google the terms they use and look them up in the owners manual for your car before you do anything. Don't let them scam you. read more

This place is awful. I went to have an alignment and they denied me of my business. When I asked them to show me that it wouldn't work they told me no and walked away. These people are rude, dishonest, and have very terrible customer service. When I told them that there customer service was bad he chuckled and became defensive. I will never go here again and I do not recommend it for anyone to go to either. read more

They are the worst!!!!!! I need an exhaust pipe welded I went to Nissan dealer and Sears auto in horsehead NY both places I've trust for years they couldn't do the work therefore Nissan look in yellow pages & sent me to Midas 347 Elmira Rd Ithaca New York long story short they gave me 4 different prices I refused it was only a exhaust pipe crack and they STOLE my muffler he said he would call about parts after he "check," my vehicle I'm am so disgusted with them I will take further action i the reason why I know because I went to MAVIS in Cortland and they said I didn't have a muffler a $75 job became a $326 job they need to be shut down!!!!!! read more

I was from out of town and I heard an awful noise in the back of my car. It sounded like the break so I took it to Midas. They told me it was going to take three hours to fix, I told them I had 83-year-old parents with me so they promised to speed things up. They did a great job and took half the time. In addition, my parents had forgotten a few items I needed to go to Walmart. The man behind the desk was more than happy to take my parents there and bring them home. Beyond disrespectful and completely lied! Got my brakes done and after they were making a horrible noise. Went back 2 more times to try and get them fixed and still making the noise. They said they can't figure it out take it to a shop to see what's wrong. I did the at and they said brakes were faulty have them warranty them out and get new ones. Called and the manager said they could fix it. Arrived and refused to fix the brakes because they would loose out on money. Then said said call the shop and tell him which brake was bad and they would only fix one because they see no issue with them. Would yell at me and told me he would not do all brakes and if I did pick one they wouldn't fix any. When he fixed only one of the brakes a part fell in the trash and they laughed and looked to see if I was look and just wiped it on his shirt and shrugged his shoulders and put it back on. He said it's ok we laughed because it was funny and told me they didn't need to check it. Then he called me "one of those people!" Not sure if it's because I'm black or a female or because when I knew all about the many different parts to the brake system. Also when the guy who "fixed" my brakes came to talk to me gave me a different story and I said the stories didn't match and he started to yell so the manager sent him away. The said he's been doing work for longer than I've been alive and never makes mistakes and he wasn't going to deal with me. I am waiting for corporate to call me back because I have audio and photo evidence and getting statements from the other shop. He also tried to take my key away from me because he said I couldn't record and clearly he doesn't know NYS law. When I called the other shop in front of the manager they were shocked that he wouldn't fix all the brakes! read more

Briefly, oil change and tire rotation before a long trip for work. About 250 miles in to the trip at low speeds I heard a clunking sound that was progressively getting worse. Stopped to check and found three of the four rims with lug nuts loose to the point that they could be turned by hand. (14 out of 20). Update: They want my phone number and full name. My reply: "Share your phone number" - to what end?  When we spoke with the manager he said it was our fault because we didn't return after 50 miles to have the lug nuts re-torqued.  This is ludicrous.  I have been involved with vehicle and aircraft maintenance for 30 years - 14 out of 20 lug nuts were loose to the point that could be removed by hand.  This isn't the customer's issue - this is a service that doesn't bother checking a simple torque value and is using the cover of a boilerplate legal statement to cover their shoddy work.  I heard the noise and stopped to check.  What if this was on a vehicle of someone who didn't understand the ramifications of the situation?  At speed, on a busy highway?  This could have been a serious if not deadly accident in the making. read more

As a college student, I found the employees at Midas very helpful after my car battery had died. I found out my car battery was dead after finishing my classes for the day and when I called Midas, they told me to bring in my car and they would be able to replace the battery for a very reasonable charge. The employees were very helpful in explaining the different things that they had tested and what each part did. I was in the shop for maybe 45 minutes while they replaced the battery and checked that my car was in great working condition. Midas helped turn a very stressful situation into an easy process. I would definitely come back here if anything were to happen to my car again. Very nice and knowledgeable employees and they did a very thorough job! read more

If you want to buy a new car, don't go to dealership. Just get down to Midas and they will point out every single parts of your car to replace. I just manually changed my windshield wipers a few weeks ago. But they came up with the diagnosis that I need to change both wipers. The rest of the problems, just read all other reviews here. It was a terrible experience. Don't know how their business survive. Maybe they're waiting for once-a-month windfall from some naive customers. read more

I came in for an oil change and they rotated the tires at that time. I informed the gentleman at the service desk that I was on my way out of town for a long trip. Shortly into the service, they informed me that my tires are bald and recommended that I buy four new tires. My car is two years old, had 37,000 miles, and the tires are Bridgestone Turanza, rated for 80,000k. I refused their suggestion because I knew they were trying to sell me something I didn't need, and said I was only here for the oil change service at that time. They finished and I departed for my trip. Approx 100 miles later, my car starts shaking and vibrating. I pulled over on the side of the highway and called them, as I had just left their shop. They explained that my lug nuts are probably loose and that I should have known better than to drive as far as I did because in fine print on the service receipt it says to return to get the lug nuts tightened after 50 miles. They were unapologetic and said it was clearly my issue at that point. I would not recommend this place based on the account that they 1) tried to sell me items I didn't need 2) did not inform the customer about necessary follow up service. read more

In a word, SHADY! I went because my check engine light was on, plus I needed an inspection. I asked them to assess just what would be necessary to pass inspection. Not only did they tack on additional repairs that were completely unnecessary, but they messed with the battery. I don't know what they did, but they claimed that the battery suddenly gave out and that I needed a new one, otherwise I wouldn't be able to drive it away. I had NEVER had problems with the battery up until this point, so it seems a little suspicious that after I tell them I'll get a second opinion, my battery would suddenly die, thus requiring me to pay them to replace it. Horrible service at this place recently. I was told they would do an oil change and I asked if there was anything else they would do. The guy at the front desk asked what I meant. What do I mean?! How about rotate the tires, check the windshield washer fluid, all the fluids! When they were done, I asked if the tire pressure was fine and he said "it is now". I asked if it was before and if it needed to be adjusted and he said it's "a national requirement" that I check it every month. Sorry...must have missed that memo from Obama! The boiling point for me (and why I will NEVER go back there) was after I left and had to go back because they did not reset my oil change meter. He said that sometimes it's hard to do. So is that why his team didn't do it? Because it was hard? Piss poor work ethic and pride in workmanship at this place. read more

Always a long wait... Even a simple state inspection on a relatively new car took over 1.5 hours and an attempt to sell a tire balancing and alignment. Disappointing. I'll take it to the dealer next time. read more

My brother, who worked with cars when he was younger, diagnosed my car issue and told me how much it should cost. I went to Midas to get it fixed, expecting to get a high estimate and a list of other things that I urgently need fixed...Surprisingly, he told me the same thing my brother told me and gave me the same price as my brother. He showed me the part that was bad and also pointed out some things that will need attention eventually, but could wait. Conclusion: I had an unexpectedly good, honest, and fast experience there and would recommend them. read more

Had a great experience today. Manager was friendly ,they quickly pulled my car in for a basic oil change. I loved that they completely checked out my car, as I dont bring it in as often as I should. They made a number of service recommendations all of which they took me into the shop and showed me , they thoroughly explained why I needed each service. But what they did find was a broken linkage that I didnt even know about. They gave me a fair estimate and told me what was most important to do first. As. I felt concern for safety. I promptly requested the broken linkage replaced, service was performed quickley. I felt I did business with a fair company and will return to finish other recommendations, Thank you Midas read more

Eeny, meeny, miney, moe! These guys just replace things one by one, charging you as they go, until they get it right--or not! $784.87 (replace struts) didn't fix the problem I specifically brought it in for, "a vibration at 60mph," so I brought it back a month later after being promised on the phone, "We'll make it right for you." This time I was charged another $103.98 (replace tie rod) only to drive away with a car that still vibrated (I even took the Asst. Mgr. for a ride so we could share the experience together.) So they refund me the $103.98, they say I need a new steering rack, and they'll do it at the discounted price of another $500. It didn't make sense to me that a steering rack could cause vibration, and when the manager sensed that I wasn't going to play this game anymore he became mean and told me to go somewhere else. So I went somewhere else--Google--where I learned that vibration can be caused by bad brake rotors. I spent $71.26 at a parts store for two new rotors and after a couple hours under the car I was driving around at 60mph with no vibration! It cost me $784.87, and if I hadn't smartened up in time over $1284.87 (because the new steering rack wouldn't have fixed it either), to learn "Don't bring your car to Midas!" read more

Please do not take your car here for service. I needed to replace my Mass Air Flow sensor on my car and had ordered a part online. I went here to get them to install the part, which is pretty simple installation. They told me it would take 20-30 minutes. Two hours later they told me when they installed the sensor that the car would not start. So they put back on the old sensor and the car still did not start. Then they decide to tell me that my sensor needed to be programmed and that why it was not working. After that they said I might have tow my car to the nearest dealer, which is in Syracuse NY. I then decided to go out and check on my car. I messed around with the old senor and got the car to start. Then they changed it for the new sensor and everything seemed to run great. I have no idea what they did to make the car not start and then to have to go into their garage and "fix" my car, shows how knowledgeable these mechanics really are. If I had not re positioned my sensor they would have had me tow my car hours away. They only get 1 star because they decided to not charge me, most likely because I fixed whatever problem they created. This place has no idea how to do any mechanic work. Even for my relatively simple replacement of the senor they almost managed to destroy my whole vehicle. Then they lead you on a wild goose chase coming up with the most absurd ideas for what is causing the problem. Mass air flow sensors do not need to be programmed and once that idea had passed they were convinced at the car shut down the engine because they did not tell it they were putting on a new part. Ended up leaving the store by 12, had to be the most stressful 3 hours I have ever had for car service. If I did not go and re adjust my senor who knows if they would have ever been able to fix the issue, my car might be in Syracuse now leaving me stranded. read more
