have been a loyal customer of this Midas for five years, largely because the previous GM, Mike, ran a transparent and honest shop. Unfortunately, those days are over. I was informed during my last visit that they are under new management and experienced horrible deceptive practices. If you are looking at the old positive reviews for this location, please know that version of the shop no longer exists. I caught them on two deceptive practices. Their "digital inspection" recommended a brake fluid flush, transmission flush, and spark plugs; all of which I had done at this exact Midas within the last two years. In the repair quote, they recommended a brake flush. When I called out the front desk (Kelly) on the redundant services in the inspection, she was dismissive and nonchalant. It turns out that she reviewed the service history and removed most of the redundant recommended services from my repair quote, but left the brake flush in my quote. I called her out on this and the excuse Kelly provided was that "previous shop did things incorrectly" in the billing and service history. Kelly also admitted that their tech just recommends stuff based on odometer/age and doesn't look at the service history. It must have been the old shop's fault for making it more difficult to upcharge me on redundant services. The next big issue is they claimed a "nail" in my tire which I could not find. I took my car to Costco for a second opinion, where they performed a dunk-tank test. Costco found zero nails and zero leaks. The only issue was a low battery on a sensor. Midas seemingly manufactured an issue to sell me more tire services I didn't need. I will not be coming back. read more

I've had issues with mechanics from different shops in the past, so needless to say I was pretty skeptical whenever it came to finding a mechanic I could trust. Luckily, I was able to find Mike and his team here, who I have been able to rely on for a while now. Mostly started off with oil changes, I have been coming back here whenever I needed something installed or needed to diagnose problems with my car. I've come in for several things, from wheel well liner installation to replacing my 12v battery(for $50 by the way), and they have done an excellent job every time. Mike in particular is always honest and friendly, which I definitely appreciate. I do want to note that I have a general idea of what I need to do to maintain my car and usually buy the parts I need online, so I can't comment on the pricing of their parts in-store, only labor. But from what I've experienced so far, I will be coming back here for the foreseeable future. read more

On May 19th, I had my car towed to Midas at 13021 W. Washington Blvd. I explained both my car troubles and my financial situation to the staff, and I was reassured not to worry--they said they would work with me. After a few days and some awkward conversations, I realized that my car had been handed off to a side mechanic operating off the books. I initially brought the car in due to a misfire in the third cylinder and potential transmission issues. However, the off-the-books mechanic removed the PCM (Powertrain Control Module), which requires a Ford-specific computer to perform a parameter reset to sync the keys. I wasn't informed about this until after I had hastily taken my car back. I attempted to resolve the issue myself, even calling a locksmith out twice, but nothing worked. As a result, my car sat on the side of the street for three weeks, accumulating parking tickets and receiving a warning from the local police about it being considered an abandoned vehicle. I eventually had it towed back to Midas, assuming they would at least help me by performing the necessary parameter reset so I could get my car running again. Instead, I was told, "That's between you and the mechanic." I then contacted Midas corporate, hoping they would help resolve the situation. Instead, they called the local Midas location to inform them that I had filed a complaint. This only escalated the issue. Apparently, Midas has no problem with their employees operating side businesses out of their shops, because I received a call from the Washington Blvd. location stating that my car still wasn't running and that the prior mechanic was to blame. I was told this was now my fault and my problem, and that my car needed to be picked up immediately. When I called corporate again, they still did not address the core issue. They simply offered to cover a tow back to my house--refusing to help with the parameter reset necessary to get my car started. After consulting with several independent mechanics, including a Ford technician, I was told that removing the PCM would not resolve a third-cylinder misfire. That action was completely unnecessary and only created additional problems. So here I am--lawyered up. Wish me luck. read more

From Mike first answering the phone to Saulo blasting through, fixing my brake components, I went from scared, to optimistic about my cars ability to navigate through LA once again I tried to restore my brakes myself, and I couldn't get the calipers off. Mikes communication was fantastic & gave me a very generous discount for fighting in Afghanistan After letting me shadow Saulo, I learned how to fix my brakes in the future. He spoke little English or Spanish but allowed me to assist in bleeding the brakes. He called Piesa to hold brake & Bombia to press continuously while he carefully examined the entire brake system. Who knew they could make car repair so fun? SCAM. Most dishonest mechanic I've ever experienced. He was going to charge $1700 for something they did across the street for $900. That's all you need to know but feel free to read on about the specifics. Monday: I had noticed my brakes were acting funny so I looked for a place to take my car to get it checked. The place I was recommended was closed so I tried Midas which was nearby. They checked it out and the guy up front told me it wouldn't be safe to take it away again due to faulty brakes (red flag.) I told him I lived cross town and had to travel in two days so it would really be better for me to have it fixed closer to home. He said that wouldn't be a good idea and that he'd get me a special rate with a rental and take that cost off my final price. He also told me he'd get to it first thing the next day and it would definitely be finished by the end of the day. The price he quoted was $1700. Sounded very steep to me, but I needed the car back to drive out of town on Wednesday. He promised a one day turnaround and everything else was closed so I went ahead. Tuesday: I had a meeting nearby in the morning, so I just hung out in the area till about 1pm then called to check the status. He said it would be ready soon so I went by. He said I could go ahead and return my rental car and get a ride back and it would be done, so that's what I did. When I got back to Midas I waited for about another hour. Totally fine. Then he comes back and says "I've got some bad news" and let's me know the part he ordered was defective. Honestly it sounded like routine behavior for him. He told me to get another rental and he would get to it first thing Wednesday. I was irritated after waiting for 5 hours, but I know things do happen so I went a head and gave it another shot. I was sure to let him know I would be in the area early and would be waiting in the neighborhood till it was done again. Wednesday: Again I was in the area early and just got work done nearby till the car was ready. He finally told me at 4:45 that he "ordered a part that was really similar to the right part but it was just a little off" and that it wasn't going to be ready. Again this seemed like standard procedure for him. I waited for 6 or 7 hours for this, now was driving back cross town in rush hour. I was still hoping to leave town one day late so asked when it would be ready at this point. Again he said the next day. I asked if I could take my car back and he said it's gonna break down right when I leave if I take it. I wasn't happy but I left it with him again. Thursday: After not hearing anything from him all morning I canceled my trip, and I called him to let him know I'm taking my car back even if that means I'll have to pay for my rental and a tow truck. I didn't want to give him my business. After a little back and forth he agreed. When I got it back it worked exactly as I left it. Not great, but functional. I suspect they never even touched the car. The next auto shop: I took it right to a brake shop across the street and they offered to do the same repair for around $800-$900 almost $1000 less!! On top of that they told me it wasn't in good condition but it was definitely still drivable. I could have taken it back to where I live from the beginning and avoided the rip off and hassle altogether. This other shop got it done next day by 11am no problem. The guy at Midas is definitely crooked. Don't go there. Tell your friends not to go there. read more

SCAMMER BUSINESS By the time i got there with my flat tire car it was 5pm. Store closes at 6pm. Person who is sitting at cashier told me they cant change tire because they were about to close.. if i was purchasing new tire, yes he is ok to tell me they are closing.. imagine driving to a tire shop with a flat tire, and getting the answer we cant help you.. after all, he told me if i pay double price which is 40$ in cash under the table, he can help me.. of course i paid 40 and got my tire changed. I do NOT recommend this store. They install cheap parts on my car (Rotors & Brakes), that was a major Safety Issue for me and my kids, I had to take my car to another shop to replace the same parts. I was able to drop my car off and returned about 2 hours later to pick up my car. I used a coupon from their website to get about $20 off my oil change.
