As mentioned before, Raymond is great. He will only give you what is necessary for your car, nothing more or nothing less. When someone stripped my catalytic converter, he was there to take care of it and share the diagnostic. When I heard a sound on my upper right axle when going over bumps, he examined it, said nothing was wrong, didn't charge me a penny and said to let him know if the sound got worse. He could have most definitely made something up and got a couple hundred bucks from me, but there are still good, honest mechanics out here, and I'm happy to find mine in West LA. read more

For my 700th review on yelp, I wanted it be a special one! And here's a well deserved one for Raymond at Mar Vista Service. Seriously, Raymond is not only an AWESOME person, he is the most HONEST and HUMOROUS mechanic in town!! He doesn't need more business. This is more of an acknowledgment and recognition for Raymond and his shop! So the background story on my bmw was, my engine overheated and the warning light came on. Once I started to hear a loud fan noise and some vibration coming from the hood of my car, I pulled over immediately. I called a few nearby mechanics and after speaking with Raymond, I knew he was the one to take my car to. There was something very humble about his honesty which immediately made him stand out for me. Before I hung up the phone, Raymond joked with me about letting me borrow his tools if I wanted and it made me laugh out loud. His sense of humor and honesty won my heart. We got a referral from a friend, as her family brings their old cars there for saving to 'die another day'. I took my '01 Honda Odyssey for smog, oil change and to investigate a parasitic battery drain. After testing all the fuses and electrical system, he narrowed it down to my driver's side sliding door contact assembly. He is an honest, knowledgeable mechanic and very helpful in answering my car questions. Not to mention he gave me a big cost break on some of the labor! He is a busy guy and has lots of cars to work on. If he can squeeze you in, he will. I'm glad I was steered to Raymond. This has been my neighborhood mechanic for almost 2 years, and I cannot sing their praises enough.  I've brought my car to Mar Vista Service 3-4 times now, and Raymond has always been friendly and super helpful.  Not once have I felt that I was being charged extra, or tricked into paying for additional services.   I had a dent and scratch on the side of my car when I brought it in for an oil change, and Raymond popped out the dent and patched up the scratch free of charge.  My boyfriend also brought his car in for an oil change/other maintenance, and they managed to fix his back passenger door that had been broken for over a year, no problem.    Mar Vista Service treats their customers with respect, and are very fair with their pricing.  I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a trustworthy mechanic in the Mar Vista area. read more

My girlfriend was having some serious problems with her car...every time we hit the accelerator it seemed that the car had a long delay to respond. Drove up after looking for the closest mechanic. My radiator was leaking fluid pretty badly. One the mechanics came out to take a look at my truck, got under the hood and looked from under the bottom. He recommend that I use stop leak to help seal up whatever was causing the leak. I went to the local auto accessory store and picked up a bottle of stop leak. It worked! Super helpful and it cost me nothing. Very grateful! I love Raymond and his staff! I dropped off some items at NCJW a couple buildings down from there. I needed to get my smog checked at a Star Station so I figured I could see if he does that afterward. Well, I parked in the NCJW lot and my car GOT STUCK. The cement cinder block was a little high and my car was a tad low so a metal piece the size of a nickel was not letting me reverse out. F*CK. Even if I revved the engine I could not back out. I could see other cars had this problem too cause when I looked at the cinder block, there was a little divet in that same area from other cars. I walked over to see Raymond to see if he could do my smog check (he can fix, but is not a Star Station, but has connections) and I offered to pay him if he could help me get unstuck. He told me to wait in my car and sent over one of his guys to the parking lot. He brought a couple wooden blocks and some other tools, but the wooden block did the trick. I was out within 2 min. THANK GOD! I asked how much I could pay and I was told no charge. I even texted Raymond afterward if that was okay to not pay and no reply back. As you know I took my car to Raymond last time for a light bulb change which only cost $3 and took less than 2 minutes. My friend referred me to them. Woo Hoo!! Finally found a nearby GREAT mechanic! Yuppee! I hated having to go to a mechanic due to this time of COVID. But when you see a radiator fluid leak below your car, this is something you have to take care of immediately (worse case could be sign of a blown head gasket). I have a 2004 Infiniti I35, that though it's in great shape with low mileage, because it is a 16 year old car, normal wear and tear requiring replacements / repairs will happen. I hate going to Infiniti Service Departments, as they, like most dealerships, want to charge you as much as they can. And their "truthfulness" is highly questionable. This is so bad, that though I absolutely love my car, I will not be buying another Infiniti in future. So, after looking at a multitude of mechanics reviewed on Yelp, I found Mar Vista Service. I called Raymond on the Monday after the 4th of July weekend. Though he is pretty busy (2 cars towed and waiting for him when he arrived this morning), he said I could drop off my car this morning. I asked if he could, if he had to, work on head gaskets. His "yes" response assured me that he is set up for major car repairs, if needed. Other mechanics I found are good, but don't do what they consider major repairs. Raymond was able to replace my radiator and a difficult to reach side headlight the same day. His pricing is VERY reasonable (as repeatedly stated by other Yelp reviewers). Am sooo glad I now have a local car mechanic who can do major repairs. Other Yelp reviewers repeatedly also said that Raymond is a really nice guy. They weren't kidding! In talking to Raymond, due to COVID, he has customers who won't pick up their repaired cars, though it's been MONTHS. Raymond even told me that he had a customer who dropped off their car, and told him they'll pick it up a week or more when they are back in town. This is ridiculous. These people are really taking advantage of Raymond. His is a small lot. By having to keep these cars on his lot, he has less space to maneuver other cars he's repairing, AND he's technically liable for these cars should something occur. Please do not do this to him. === Only nit I have is when I went to pick up my car, Raymond's assistant's face mask was on over his mouth, but did not cover his nose. So, when I got home, I wiped down the inside of my car the best I could. read more

So, don't come here if your vehicle has a mechanical issue that needs a diagnosis. I brought my van here with an obviously wrong sound from the starter motor on every single start, and after waiting a day for them to look at it the response was that "nothing was wrong" and I could just come pick it up. To their credit they didn't charge me, but it was blatantly obvious there was an issue with the car and I ended up fixing it myself in about an hour and a half crawling under it on Venice Blvd, but I do have a full time job and would have preferred leaving the repair to a professional, but Mar Vista Service was simply a waste of my time. It was obvious on visual inspection that my starter motor needed replacing, which ended up being true, so to be honest I doubt he even looked at my car. read more

My beloved 1990 Toyota Pickup overheated on the 405 on my way to work. I pulled off the highway hoping to get out slow moving traffic but once off the exit it started making some loud noises. I pulled over and popped the hood to find the radiator fan had completely sheared off its hub. I yelped a repair place and Mar Vista came up. I was leas than a mile away so I crossed my fingers and drove there. There was only 1 mechanic there and he clearly had his hands full. I explained to him that I was late for a project and I understood that he could not fix it immediately. He mentioned that the fan was likely no longer produced but he would see what he could do. He gave me the name of a nearby car rental place and I called a Lyft. My expectation was that I would hear back from him in a week. Imagine my surprise when he called the next afternoon to tell me it was done. The total? $190! He managed to find a used fan assembly. I am extremely grateful for the quick turn around and unbelievably reasonable price. read more

A few of my coworkers had been going to Raymond's place for many years. They said Raymond is an honest mechanic who does not recommend things you don't need. I tried calling him and asked for a quote for both front struts replacement. He called me back saying that he will get back to me with a quote. 3 days passed by and I didn't get any call back. I called back twice and left voicemails each time but still no response. He may be a good mechanic but he is definitely not the best with responding quotes. Faith in humanity partially restored. I read a few reviews on this shop and the overall theme I got was honesty. I took my car in to get the AC checked as it is middle of the summer and we are hitting the 100s in. I spoke briefly spoke with the mechanic that works in the morning and he assured me he would test out my car and find the issue. After he looked at the car he let me know he was able to partially fix it but the tool he needed to test the system he didn't have. He gave me the suggestion for another shop to have them fix my AC and though he worked on it for a while he refused to charge me because he didn't fully fix my problem. Imagine having to be a mechanic in this record heat working on cars and you decide not to charge a person anything because you couldn't fully fixed their problem. My AC at least blows cooler than it did when he got it so I have "some" relief from this heat but more important my faith in good people has been restored. Great services, great prices!!! First, one of my friends went searching for an auto shop looking for a deal and decent reviews. She found a couple, and ended up going to this place. The place has pretty good deals, no joke. She got a really good deal with her brakes at this place. They were straight forward with everything, and did not screw her with anything. We went in to drop her car off in the morning and picked it up in the evening. My friend was impressed and loved the work. Weeks later, our co-worker found out he needed to get his clutch switched out. He called around for prices. I suggested he call this place, and so he did. Turns out, of all places, this place had the best deal. It was nearly half the price of any other place. The auto shop is pretty hidden. You won't really notice it unless someone points it out to you. It's in the back of these buildings so it's not that noticeable when you drive by it on the street. When my friend took his car in, he found out from the auto guy, it may not be his clutch. Turns out it was something about the tightening of the clutch. The auto guy seemed honest. He could've lied and done something to profit more but he didn't. Friend was so stoke. Thank goodness there are some honest people out there. He walked out spending only $80 instead of 4 bills... :) If you decide to go here, ask for Raymond! He was the guy who helped my friend out. read more
