So I'm super happy but let me tell you why. I bought a brand new chevy Silverado quad cab truck back in 2014. It was not my everyday driver but used to haul stuff like my travel trailer, a bunch of scuba tanks and weights etc. so I needed it to be reliable for work and leisure. At around 100,000 miles I started to have battery depletion issues. Brought it to the dealer and they told me is was the battery without even looking. I bought my vehicle from Barton Birks which was probably the best car dealership I had ever experienced. They knew me by name and treated me like family for years. It was my third chevy and I got a new truck every three years. Then they got bought out and changed their name to Unity Chevrolet. All of a sudden the service guys who I knew were all gone almost over night, the service was predatory in nature now. Meaning they found lots of fake things to report to get you to spend more money. Oh no you have an engine leak, I didn't, your transmission is shot, no it wasn't never had an issue with the transmission. A week later the battery dies the without checking anything changed the alternator for a total of battery and alternator around 1800.00 plus tax, a month later same issue . Oh your alternator that you have is not the right one for this truck. Yeah but you did the work. Suffices to say I replaced the battery and alternator multiple times. Since my last visit to the Unity dealership I have decided to not use them any more. You do what you want but I cannot afford them or their bad service. I brought it to Midas in Newburgh, I trusted them for my brakes, mufflers etc for years and always found them to be decent people. Well my truck was dieting after a few hours now of just being parked and came in and explained what I had been through with the dealer what the dealer had done and that it sounded like a parasitic battery drain issue which are a real pain to diagnose but are common on chevy's and jeeps. They kept my truck for a few days and tore it all apart to find the issue even replaced parts to see if it fixed the issue and when it didn't they were honest and sent them back and did not charge me. Imagine they were honest and didn't charge me. I would have paid without issue or complaint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Joe at the front desk kept me informed through out the day and Mike took his time chasing a very difficult issue which the dealer overlooked or just did not care to chase at all.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I knew bringing it to Midas and not just any Midas but this one specifically was a good idea. I went on this company's web site to make an appointment to have my car's transmission serviced. I was directed to put all my cars information on the web form. After doing so, I was asked when I would like an appointment for. In doing all that, my appointment was confirmed! The morning of my appointment I arrived 15 minutes early. I was informed that they didn't know when I would be taken. That my appointment meant nothing, and that they didn't even have the parts to do my scheduled service. We took my car here for brakes and calibers for the front two tires. Walked out the door paying close to $900.....highway robbery if you ask me especially on 2015 car! We were originally quoted it to be around $600 but they stated the caliber was broken and needed to be replaced which we thought was occurring originally so confused to why we were charged and additional $200. Called Midas on Saturday , 5/4 to get a price and availability for a wheel alignment. I spoke with Jermain and he was the best! He told us to come in and he will make sure it gets done the same day even tho he only had 1 technician working. We went there within 15 and left the car for the wheel alignment about 1.5 hours later he called us and said the car is done. We got there and found out there was even a $20 discount that he gave us. He was such a pleasant person. Excellent communication. I highly recommend Midas on Union Ave and ask for Jermain. Definitely a 5 experience and will be returning for my oil change. Why did I make an early morning appointment in advance to still sit and wait over an hour before they moved my vehicle into a bay and another half hour to start working on it? Time is precious my friends. I initially left a two star review and changed it. While not too happy with the time issue - they were able to do the oil change with ease. I went to two places prior Valvoline and Mavis across the street. Both of which told me there were unable to get my skid plate off. Midas was able to get the job done without removing the plate. The plug was easily accessible and the filter is within arms reach. Thank you Midas for doing a simple oil change and helping with my tailgate. It's just plain tomfoolery the two shops across the street couldn't figure out how to get the job done. read more

We were traveling through on a vacation and had no room in our car for a cracked rim and tire. Not the least apologetic and they swore in front of our little kids. Stay away!! The state inspection was approved and I even got my brakes and rotors checked to make sure everything was in alignment. Horrible - ucrooks - shouldn't be allowed to inspect a vehicle I go in for a NY State inspection on my car. First thing the mechanic says we have been having to replace a lot of "rack and pinion (R&P) steering systems" this month on inspections. I should have just left right then. 2 hours later they go to inspect the car, 3 minutes later they tell me they need to replace - you guessed it - the R&P (almost $2,000) because its allegedly leaking. They show me the oil and I said wait a minute the Power steering oil isn't brown like this, they argue and I point out that this car doesn't use Prestone, it uses German mineral oil which is green or clear. The oil they're seeing is overflow from the turbine oil trap which is not a safety issue. Guess it was their special of the month! But Midas put down I need a new "Suspension and R&P" on safety. R&P has nothing to do with suspension. Then they say I need new rear rotors and brakes ($600) and a new left outer tie rod ($400). I say thanks but no thanks I'll do it myself. So I order all of the parts ( 2 Rotors, new pads, new tie rod and a re-manufactured R&P) all at a cost of $350. Take my rear wheel off and discover they've stripped the rotor retaining screw. Guess they thought they were going to do the work. Then I measure the rear rotors, well guess what - the new rotors are 10 mm, minimum allowable thickness 8 mm, but my old rotors are 9.5 mm. Less than 25% used! Yes the brake pads needed to be replaced - which I do every year (cost $59). NY State Inspections have become a license for many garages to print money. Review everything carefully, have them show you everything before you allow them to do any repair and get a second opinion. So the reality is $60 vs the almost $3000 Midas estimate. Yes it is the Midas touch- turning your vehicle inspection into their gold. Me - I'll take the savings and buy 2 oz of real gold. read more

The folks at Midas were able to get us in right away and had a new alternator and battery installed in a couple of hours and we were able to continue our trip. Oh dag!! I was posting this review to Mavis when it was Midas that should be avoided like the plague! OMG, so sorry Mavis! After a routine oil change they insisted I needed new tires and mentioned my tie rod (or something) needed replacing. Since I expected these guys to be the tire "experts" I trusted their advice about my tires, as for the tie rod they mentioned I left that for my mechanic to inspect (which for the record was perfectly fine). After picking the tires I wanted I made an appointment for install & returned for my installation. I even got a courtesy call to tell me my tires had arrived. Well long story short I got there and they never told me any tires were missing so they installed 3 tires to then tell me that the 4th tire was not in the store but it was being brought over. No problem, I'll go get lunch and come back....not so simple! After 2hrs (I was told tire would have arrived) my tire had not arrived. They haggled me telling me all kinds of stories about the delay, I even insisted they put back the old tires and let me go. Oh but my tires had been thrown in the garbage (yet another lie to keep me there). Very long story short, my car stood at this location for over 9hrs before my tires were finally put on costing me $800 of which they gave me the 4th tire free (the missing tire). I've never experienced such a nightmare getting tires and I even wanted to visit another Midas to get 4 tires they did have in stock to save me time but this Midas didn't want me leaving which I suspect these are franchises privately owned. I'll NEVER step foot inside this Midas location ever again! I rather drive on my rims before I get tires here. read more

I went here for a full synthetic oil change. They had reasonable prices and after using a coupon it was even cheaper. They have very good business practices such as personally showing you any issues with your car if they recommend any additional services. And although they had recommendations, they weren't pushy about it. The work was done quickly and professionally. Their credit card machine was down due to a storm but nobody told me when I dropped off my car for an oil change. Then they called me to say I needed an emergency $200 repair, which I okayed, and again neglected to tell me the credit card machine was down. So when I came to pick it up, big surprise, I needed over $200 to get my car back. I had to call my friend to pick me back up and bring cash for me, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to pay. I went there for a routine oil change and the gentleman working the service desk came out with an unsolicited itemized list of "repairs" that he said my car required -- new struts, shocks, belts, fluids and other repairs totaling ~$2500. Of course, I didn't readily believe him so I took the car to my local Toyota dealer for a second opinion. They told me my struts, shocks, etc. were in perfect working order and in good shape and that I needed NOTHING. I don't know if Midas thought they could rip me off because I'm a woman or if they do this to everyone, but this location should seriously be closed for gross misrepresentation of the condition of my car. From the other posts on yelp, it seems I'm not the first person they've tried to take. I just can't fathom making up complete falsehoods like that. Jared helped me with my tire pressure today because I have a sensor fault light on. He helped me understand my car's tire pressure, showed me where I can find it listed on my car door, and walked me through checking it and adjusting pressure. As opposed to many mechanics who don't explain and try to up-sell, he helped me figure out whether or not I need service at all... and to wait a few days to see if the light goes off before I pay for another sensor. I walked in this morning at approximately 8:05am. I requested an inspection, since the Mavis across the street had a problem with the machine used for inspection. I am so thankful and grateful for Jay and his guys! I was shown and informed of the different things they check as a courtesy on the first visit. Great, because it was then that I realized I needed 2 tires. I was told how the uneven wear happened that caused my need for new tires. But , I was at Mavis in Monroe on Sunday for oil change and tire rotation? Didn't they see the uneven wearing of the tread in the front and rear tires? Maybe it wasn't a big deal to them that my tires were wearing unevenly? I am so thankful that Mavis dropped the ball. I found a reputable and trustworthy business in Midas. So, Mavis may have overlooked my tires, but it was Midas who took the time to show me, to explain, and help me understand what needed to be done now and in the future to keep my car running safely!! I brought my car in this morning after making an appointment online yesterday (very convenient) for an inspection and oil change. I waited less than an hour for my car. I waited there for it, but they also call you when you car is ready. Most placed nowadays will not extend that courtesy. They were very friendly, courteous, professional, and thorough. thieves!!! brought my car in for a new york state inspection. failed with flying colors to the tune of $600.00. i was told that i needed a serpentine & drive belt amongst other things. asked around and these belts are not a factor in the car passing inspection. then they told me that my brake light sensor is not operating, yet when my fiancee and i went outside with the manager the brake lights were working just fine. called the manager of midas to ask him to explain the belt issue and he indicated that the belts are effected the power steering and that is why it failed. fix it here or elsewhere in 10 days or pay again! so i went elsewhere, my mechanic in rockland county. he put my car on the same machine and my car passed with flying colors. sad nothing wrong with my belts, sensors, bulbs...etc don't even bring your car there for an oil change folks, who knows if they are using oil?! read more

This place is the worst attempt at a scam I have ever seen. I came in asking for a repair on my wheel bearings. They HAD to diagnose it for $40... ok, fine. They call me back with a $900 estimate. They tried to tell me each wheel bearing was $250... the dealership only charges $115... and you can get them online for $60-$90. They really tried to play me for a sucker. #1 I knew about how much this repair would cost with mark up and labor included. #2 they added a list of other things like oil change and filter when I JUST got an oil change a month ago. #3 I brought it to my regular mechanic the next day and had it repaired for $400... This place does not deserve even one star. I brought my Toyota for a simple oil change.They tried to up sell me on a tire balancing ..i refused it. I waited for 2 hours for the oil change. The tech proceeded to up sell me again showing me a filter with so much leaves and debris it didn't even look believable saying it needed to be replaced along with a new emergency brake for $150 or my car wouldn't pass nys inspection. I went here on and off for a few years. They always seem to find a serious problem with my cars. Even a 3 year old car of mine with only 25,000 miles! Oil changes are only $19.99, but there is always something else wrong with my car. I know they make money on repairs and extra services(trans. fluid flush, radiator flush etc.) but this particular franchise overdoes it. They wouldn't pass my car's inspection due to low treads on my two front tires. Their estimate for two tires, wheel alignment(which isn't always necessary with new tires)? $450.00! That was the last straw. I went to Firestone in Newburgh and got four tires for $422.00! AND, got a $60 rebate Visa gift card! Midas will try to take advantage of the inexperienced car owner. !!!! read more

As soon as they get your vehicle in you should expect up to 2HOURS wait time just for an oil change, then they will come to you with an apocalyptic prognosis on you car and will sell everything that they can: filters, starts, tires, ect. Even if I had thought to read the reviews at Yelp before going to Midas, it might not have dissuaded me. Don't anyone else make that mistake! Do not go to this Midas!!! Short Version: Went in for routine services, came out with an estimate that was half the value of my car! Sought opinion at another garage and they pointed out that damage had been done the parts in question in the exact same places on each part, and very recently. They thought it was suspicious. Long Version: We are new to the area and thought we would be fine going to a national chain like Midas. WRONG! I went in for routine maintenance, and walked out with an estimate for thousands of dollars. The employees were very nice at first and even brought me back to show me the underside of my car and explain all the problems they found. Some of the things they wanted me to pay for were obviously unnecessary. But there was one "problem" they found that could not be ignored. Even to my untrained eye what they showed me looked odd. We got a recommendation from a friend for a local mechanic who asked us what had happened to the car, because the damage presented some strange characteristics. The damage was in the same spot on both parts, and was very recent. There were no other signs of weakness you typically would see if that part was failing. We ended up getting the routine service we had done at Midas re-done at the other mechanic just for peace of mind. They were also able to fix the suspicious damage for far less than Midas had wanted. I am so glad that we did not bring our other vehicle to this Midas like we had planned. Odd damage, huge estimate, pressure from 3 different employees to get the work done right away - that raised a red flag with me and I elected to walk out. Don't be me. I used to come here frequently. The last time I went, I got a simple oil change. The next time I needed an oil change, my father offered to do it for me to save me money. He noticed that the bolt holding my oil pan was stripped and stuck. They never told me they did this and it led to me needing a whole new oil pan. $300 in repairs for one simple oil change. I will never go back there and i don't reccommend it to anyone. They will do a hack job and break your car and not own up to their mistakes. read more
